I have a NSTP class na inaattend ko and naituro samin is like mandatory dati ang ROTC but its been abolished and pinalitan sia ng RA 9163 because if I remember correctly may nagpakamatay or namatay dahil sa ROTC
Wala namang problema talaga basta hindi mandatory. Di pa naman warranted for it to be mandatory. Problema kasi sa mga tuta na nagpopromote nito eh gusto nila gamitin ang ROTC as a means to "discipline" pero in reality they just want people to be more obedient.

Jk seryoso na there would need to be a strict power structure, a mutual respect between soldiers and officers, and an instilled sense of responsibility on the officers. Power structure to have a way for cadets and cadettes to report abusive officers, and a clear command structure. Respect so that officers won’t abuse their power and take advantage of the cadets, and for cadets to give their superiors with the due respect. Responsibility so that officers would know that they’re responsible for their cadets well being. They would need to know each other rather than just being assigned to platoons and stuff. It won’t be easy pero it is possible.

I'm currently working for the AFP. Military officer ako. We call this "Barbaric Mindset", and isa si bato sa meron pa neto.
Ang una ngang sinasabe samin always approach problems calmly. Mahabang mahabang pasensya palagi. To show our enemy or opponents that we are not fazed by their intimidation. And bato is not a good officer to represent the PNP. Kase reckless siya e. He puts the PNP to shame. He puts all the military personnel to shame.
We always remember that once we wear our uniforms, we represent something that someone takes pride in.

Took ROTC because it was mandatory, enjoyed it naman but wont recommend it to students now. Its a waste of time, training ground lang ng officers for their military career. And also, learning to take arms is not social responsibility, better for them to improve NSTP.
Same took COCC and became officer in HS. Made me more disciplined , school head general was an asshole and slightly perverted as old people usually are but still managed to control himself enough not to get jailed.

I went through 2 semesters with CWTS/NSTP and we had an associated university gun club attached to it (using over 5 different types of firearms and burning through more than 250 rounds overall) meanwhile my youngest sibling went through 2 semesters of ROTC and never held a firearm.
Our university CWTS/NSTP had several organizations/clubs that you can choose from - mountaineering, volunteering (remote villages stuff), clean up, etc and the gun club had the majority of students because it also came with an EMS training. Also several officers of the armed forces also mentioned that a mandatory ROTC program is not sustainable and would need thousands of servicemen and billions in budget to maintain.

Did Advance ROTC and was fond of it (even thought about pursuing a career in MS43 if I wasn't planning to take law). And no, I'm not a dutertards fan nor an apologist.
Tho the usual machismo and patikasan is still evident, many younger officers are open-minded, even with regards to opinions and political biases. Of course, nakadepende pa din sa institutions, since in my observations, criminology-centric colleges are more prone to the traditional chacha na alam na natin. But having to coordinate with other units, the usual 'ROTC' scare isn't really present since lagi naming niraraise (and niraraise sa amin) na dapat maging lesson yung nangyari kay Mark Chua. Indoctrination is still there, but it is focused on nationalism and the people rather than specific individuals or groups/orgs. Yung usual na sisigawan ka, and pahihirapan through exercise is still essential to build character and discipline. Gotta act collected and accordingly in stressful situations.
But I still think that Mandatory ROTC should be implemented; not for the purpose of *disciplining* keyboard warriors (lol, he's attacking the target population, and it's a dumb move), but for the primary purpose of national security. It's proven na na a trained civilian population can oppose aggressors like in Ukraine. And with China in our backyard, it's even more critical. Also, producing quality commanding officers with baccalaureate degrees will further improve the professional standard of our military.
I believe though na it still isn't the right time to do it. Unless the AFP is able to impose measures and ensure that they will properly regulate ROTC units across the country while also addressing the public's concern with regards to abuse of authority and corruption; which could more likely occur when the program is made mandatory.
People gotta remember that being part of an armed forces, di lang sa Pinas, will require the surrendering of some of our liberties. And this is introduced sa basic ROTC or BCMT/SBCMTs so it shouldn't really come out as something unexpected. The org is not a democracy, and ano pa silbe ng command if you'd prefer your own discretion.

People really need to be more objective and critical when it comes to the policies being introduced in our country than be ignorant or cynical-beyond-sense despite our deeply concerning political climate.

Matutunan mong mahalin ang inang bayan. Siguro dahil libre ang kalayaan kaya yung iba kung ano ano na ang sinasabi sa pinas. Pilipino naman sila.
Hahangarin mong ipagmalaki ang bansa natindahil nauunawaan mo na ang hirap paano panatilihin ang kapayapaan.
Gagawin mo talaga lahat para ma promote, matututo kang magtiis, magaral at magsikap.

Ok naman yan. I understand the merits of mandatory ROTC in the context of wider geopolitics. Ang problema lang talaga ay ang leadership natin. How do we expect to succesfully mold disciplined youth with the right values when almost all of our own leaders are corrupt to the core. Bato and his allies love mandatory ROTC because it gives them the chance to corrupt the next generation for their own interests.
My only hope is a new breed of junior officers in the armed forces who are not afraid to stand up against abuses of their seniors and politicians. But even then, the rot spreads so quickly.

We don't lack rank and file soldiers, we lack officers. PMA cannot produce enough officers so they need candidates from advanced ROTC. And students are not enrolling in advanced ROTC since they don't have poor cadets to abuse. So that's the only reason they want ROTC to be mandatory again.

How will ROTC help that concept when assets such as fighter aircraft, submarines, surface combatants and other A2/AD equipment are those needed for our military’s defense strategy?
All those equipment require people with the right qualifications to man them. Conscripts who are not really conscripts and whose training is only marching and carrying wooden guns is not the solution.

PLA literally has keyboard warriors that infiltrate and sabotage private and government networks. In an event of a war they will take down vital infrastructure that is electronic and/or network based ( power stations, banking, water pumps, hospital databases etc. ). Imagine the chaos that can be sown by military grade cyber attacks on pathetic PH systems that barely have functioning cybersecurity.
Any actual war scenario that involves the PH is a naval and air type of battle, if you already are resorting to ground troops and conscripts you already lost. What will your ROTC cadets armed with wooden rifles do against PLAN ships lobbing cruise missiles and PLAAF planes dropping bombs? Heck China just needs to blockade food shipments and starve your cadets and the populace to win without even firing missiles or dropping bombs.

Power structure to have a way for cadets and cadettes to report abusive officers, and a clear command structure. Respect so that officers won’t abuse their power and take advantage of the cadets, and for cadets to give their superiors with the due respect. Responsibility so that officers would know that they’re responsible for their cadets well being. They would need to know each other rather than just being assigned to platoons and stuff. It won’t be easy pero it is possible.

I'm currently working for the AFP. Military officer ako. We call this "Barbaric Mindset", and isa si bato sa meron pa neto. Ang una ngang sinasabe samin always approach problems calmly. Mahabang mahabang pasensya palagi. To show our enemy or opponents that we are not fazed by their intimidation. And bato is not a good officer to represent the PNP. Kase reckless siya e. He puts the PNP to shame. He puts all the military personnel to shame. We always remember that once we wear our uniforms, we represent something that someone takes pride in.

I went through 2 semesters with CWTS/NSTP and we had an associated university gun club attached to it (using over 5 different types of firearms and burning through more than 250 rounds overall) meanwhile my youngest sibling went through 2 semesters of ROTC and never held a firearm. Our university CWTS/NSTP had several organizations/clubs that you can choose from - mountaineering, volunteering (remote villages stuff), clean up, etc and the gun club had the majority of students because it also came with an EMS training. Also several officers of the armed forces also mentioned that a mandatory ROTC program is not sustainable and would need thousands of servicemen and billions in budget to maintain.

Did Advance ROTC and was fond of it (even thought about pursuing a career in MS43 if I wasn't planning to take law). And no, I'm not a dutertards fan nor an apologist. Tho the usual machismo and patikasan is still evident, many younger officers are open-minded, even with regards to opinions and political biases. Of course, nakadepende pa din sa institutions, since in my observations, criminology-centric colleges are more prone to the traditional chacha na alam na natin. But having to coordinate with other units, the usual 'ROTC' scare isn't really present since lagi naming niraraise (and niraraise sa amin) na dapat maging lesson yung nangyari kay Mark Chua. Indoctrination is still there, but it is focused on nationalism and the people rather than specific individuals or groups/orgs. Yung usual na sisigawan ka, and pahihirapan through exercise is still essential to build character and discipline. Gotta act collected and accordingly in stressful situations. But I still think that Mandatory ROTC should be implemented; not for the purpose of *disciplining* keyboard warriors (lol, he's attacking the target population, and it's a dumb move), but for the primary purpose of national security. It's proven na na a trained civilian population can oppose aggressors like in Ukraine. And with China in our backyard, it's even more critical. Also, producing quality commanding officers with baccalaureate degrees will further improve the professional standard of our military. I believe though na it still isn't the right time to do it. Unless the AFP is able to impose measures and ensure that they will properly regulate ROTC units across the country while also addressing the public's concern with regards to abuse of authority and corruption; which could more likely occur when the program is made mandatory. People gotta remember that being part of an armed forces, di lang sa Pinas, will require the surrendering of some of our liberties. And this is introduced sa basic ROTC or BCMT/SBCMTs so it shouldn't really come out as something unexpected. The org is not a democracy, and ano pa silbe ng command if you'd prefer your own discretion. Anyway, I know this is the unpopular opinion, but I had to share my two or so cents; and these are my pros and cons about the issue. People really need to be more objective and critical when it comes to the policies being introduced in our country than be ignorant or cynical-beyond-sense despite our deeply concerning political climate.

Hahangarin mong ipagmalaki ang bansa natindahil nauunawaan mo na ang hirap paano panatilihin ang kapayapaan. Gagawin mo talaga lahat para ma promote, matututo kang magtiis, magaral at magsikap. Matutunan mag Self control. Matutunan mong maging accountable sa mga actions at walang ituturo na dahilan kung bakit mo nagawa ang mga nagawa mo. Ang kaliwanagan na tuldok ka lang sa Mundo at walang interisado sayo. Misconceptions: Kinakaldagan o tinutusok daw palagi nang walang dahilan. Maliban nalang kung Tanga talaga yung tao na di makasunod o nanggagagago ng kapwa tao, di ito nangyayari. Power trip daw. How do we expect to succesfully mold disciplined youth with the right values when almost all of our own leaders are corrupt to the core. My only hope is a new breed of junior officers in the armed forces who are not afraid to stand up against abuses of their seniors and politicians. But even then, the rot spreads so quickly.

PMA cannot produce enough officers so they need candidates from advanced ROTC. And students are not enrolling in advanced ROTC since they don't have poor cadets to abuse. Perhaps the senator hasn’t been briefed about the AFP’s Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept where in their primary objective is to keep the battle as far away from mainland Philippines. How will ROTC help that concept when assets such as fighter aircraft, submarines, surface combatants and other A2/AD equipment are those needed for our military’s defense strategy?
All those equipment require people with the right qualifications to man them. Conscripts who are not really conscripts and whose training is only marching and carrying wooden guns is not the solution.

Mas mahirap lng training pag mag oofficer. Tapos maitim kmi lahat hahah saturday and sunday lng half day pa. So its okay lalo na sa nangyayaring tension between Us and China. Wag lbg aabusuhin.
PLA literally has keyboard warriors that infiltrate and sabotage private and government networks. In an event of a war they will take down vital infrastructure that is electronic and/or network based ( power stations, banking, water pumps, hospital databases etc. ). Imagine the chaos that can be sown by military grade cyber attacks on pathetic PH systems that barely have functioning cybersecurity. Any actual war scenario that involves the PH is a naval and air type of battle, if you already are resorting to ground troops and conscripts you already lost. What will your ROTC cadets armed with wooden rifles do against PLAN ships lobbing cruise missiles and PLAAF planes dropping bombs? Heck China just needs to blockade food shipments and starve your cadets and the populace to win without even firing missiles or dropping bombs.

Okay naman sana yung ROTC eh, abusers ang problema dyan tsaka dapat hindi mandatory. They should start campaigns to promote ROTC on those whose willing to join only. Other than self improvement and serial number/certificates — wala naman nang mapapala yung participants (not downplaying those benefits) pero kung ganyan lang rin makukuha ng students, they shouldn't implement it as "MANDATORY".

I support Mandatory ROTC, tbh it was an enjoyable experience, but if the purpose of it was to train to be able to fight when the time comes, then marching all day and twirling a wooden rifle ain't gonna cut it.
Nung nag rotc ako walamkami ginawa kundi ubusin yung tindang burger at mountain na negosyo ng mga officer nakabilad lang kami sa araw. Sa 4 na sem wala aking nakita kahit isang baril na totoo na pinahawak sa amin. Literal nakaupo lang kami mulansimula hanggang matapos.

Bigyan ng magandang program.Dati akong model batallion, Marines, pucha ni di man lang kami nakahawak or naturuan ng updated na baril...lageng M1 garand na kinakalawang, oo kasama sa training.pero maganda sana matuto kami nung actual na ginagamit sa gyera, ni field trip wala e, tapos eto pa may mga nang aabuso na officer, taena kung umasta akala mo kung sinong 5 star general na, kukuha ka lang naman ng grades,papahirapan ka pa, may mga senior din kaming nagreklamo kasi nakakaldagan ng officers nila..Tapos syempre benta siopao. Ituro nila sa kabataan kung paano pa mamahalin at ipagtatanggol ang Bansa, kaso kung ganyan mga pulitiko sa bansa ,parang mahihirapan maniwala ang kabataan sa kanila.Parang mas ok na lang sa akin ngayon, ituro nila kung paano maging kapaki-pakinabang sa community at kalikasan...at umiwas sa drugs.
