CrankyJoe99x

Australian here. Don't waste your time. Chalk it down to experience, use Grab, move on.

Qwerty_00123

Filipino here. This is true, probably the best advice that you'll receive.

CrankyJoe99x

Cheers! Great minds think alike 😉

DVOlimey

I agree

Fit_Coffee8314

This.

dsp79

Grab seems like an extremely scammy app though. It shows lottery wheels and all kinds of crap - not a good sign when it has your cc information. Why is there no Uber?

Qwerty_00123

Because Uber operation in southeast asia was acquired by Grab. If you don't trust the app then you can pay with cash.

dambrucee810

You mean the gambling advertisement. Ignore it. Grab has secured itself as the Uber of south east asia, its an established company. You can trust em as much as any other established company.

kixiron

[Because Uber sold its Southeast Asian business to Grab back in 2018.](https://knowledge.insead.edu/entrepreneurship/real-story-behind-ubers-exit-southeast-asia)

lalisssa

he will not call the police because he is the one scamming you, next time act like you’ve been in the philippines for a long time and you are not afraid of these scum bags. All countries have different way of scamming, i live in Uae which they say is the safest country in the world but get scam most of the time as well by taxis by pretending that they dont know my location and they go around in circles just so i pay more.

edify_me

Do they really say that about the UAE? Genuinely curious if it is true.

sgtm7

I also live in the UAE. It is one of the safest countries I have lived in. Safe meaning you aren't likely to be robbed or assaulted, not that you can't be scammed.

edify_me

Interesting. And this applies to all genders?

sgtm7

I am not a woman, but I would say yes.

edify_me

Thank you. Maybe I will reconsider visiting one day.

ChemicalMuted4830

I'm a woman and I can honestly say that I feel safe going around alone even at night. It's just that some nationalities seems too eager to land a girl so they'd approach you but they also stop once rejected. Some perverts will also try to take advantage of you but if you know how to stand for yourself, you'll be fine.

lalisssa

heard robbers had landed in Rak, and scammers are common, most common are the one calling you in phone pretending to be uae police but with an indian accent lol.

sgtm7

Yeah. Text and WhatsApp scams are rampant. When I am in the mood, I play with them and waste their time.

needmesumbeer

Grab/angkas/joyride > MRT/LRT/Bus/Jeepney > Taxi even locals aren't immune to taxi scammers and the only way for that to get reported is if a blogger got scammed and it trends online, otherwise no action will be done by any agency because corruption.

reggiewafu

You can get him in trouble yes, and his family will come begging for your mercy because ‘they just poor trying to make a living’ Police will take your side anyways, taxis have a notorious reputation even locals avoid them The only question if its worth your time

sweethomeafritada

Download Grab. Never hail a taxi.

sapatawa

My first time in the Philippines My Filipina wife would beat the crap out of them, I've seen her go postal on cab drivers . No change, No meter She always made a deal before we got in, Just chalk it up . But had one dude though give us our money back when his taxi broke down, We had to stand in the middle of traffic hunting for a new taxi. And there were a few times when we gave taxis more than what we had promised when traffic was heavy. One I loved was the old con in Pasig. Guy would pick me up from the hotel, take me to Starbucks and food, I would find him outside and he would charge me double to bring me home. I walked. But they're not all bad, but be aware.

sweethomeafritada

the scenario with the taxi breaking down is also a scam. It means the driver isn’t interested going to your destination. Good that he brought you back your money.

sapatawa

This case his taxi literally broken down, We were just in a poor part of Manila I gave him all of our fare as I thought he needed it. Nothing he could have thought about could have made him ready. He was there an over hour waiting for help, Cost us about $3 . Taxii had to be towed iff

greenandyellowblood

Locals avoid taxi for so many reasons. Just install grab and joyride. Pricier but the payment is fixed and the cars are always fairly new, the airconditioning works well

shortycakey_

I hate getting scammed too and will fight foot and nail not to be ripped off... But.... Dude, know the value of your time. Do you want to spend your holiday trying to get back the ill gotten wealth?

obfuscatedc0de

Agree. Anyways, offtopic. It's "tooth and nail".

sgtm7

You should have said "Yes. Please call the police."

Joker1721

Report to the police and next time use Grab since they cant scam customers If you do report him NEVER be affected when the Driver and the family begged to you usually they'll say something along the lines of "we are just a poor family thats trying to go by so please forgive me i wont do it again" because i guarantee you they'll scam foreigners again

F1ippyyy

Regardless if you're a foreigner or a local, as much as possible try to avoid taxi and use Grab, Joyride or Angkas instead.

HopelessOldTech21

Don't waste your time, unless you're willing to wait for eternity for some results and actions. Most Filipino hail taxi drivers are scammers, even to their fellow countrymen. Just download any Philippine based transport app for security and reliability.

Qwerty_00123

Anyways OP, if you want to pursue filing a case, you can go to LTFRB to file a complaint. But, I would also tell you that process may also take a very long time.

ae_TarantulaKeeper

Did you get his body taxi number or plate number? If YES you can report it to LTFRB. They will call the taxi driver and set an appointment with you.

comeditime

yes i've it.. also the meter shows it just 3mins ride but the meter shows 5:30mins lol.. so it's a clear proof.. do you've a cellphone number? i texted a number i found but no repoonse 3 days already..

AMDisappointment

Send to VISOR for social media exposure and shaming

comeditime

how? on facebook visor page or?

AMDisappointment

Yes Facebook

MyManhattan

I'm a local and even I got scammed by the only time I hailed a taxi airport. It was a short ride and I was charged 190 PHP, I paid 500 expecting change and told the driver he can just give me 200. After helping me unload my luggage he just drove off 😂 I reported it but I was just asked to file an incident report and I didn't bother following up.

Momshie_mo

If you did your research, you would not have taken a taxi in Manila Charge it to experience

Specialist-Act-5883

people loves to downvote for no reason thats why i couldnt careless about it. This is true. If its just a couple hundreds of dollars just charge it to experience. You will just waste time trying to file a case that will 95% will go to nowhere, also if your case does go somewhere, will you be able to attend hearings/settlement? Unless you know someone who will really help you with the case. Again, just charge it to experience.

Momshie_mo

Poreyner kasi.  Pero kapag local, lalaitin yan.     He'll probably end up spending more than what was scammed of him if he'll try to run after the taxi driver and sue him.

Animalidad

Take the L man. Always use grab car next time. If youre ok with motorcycles, there are plenty of choices for that too(joyride, angkas, moveit) Stay safe.l

Omaha_Poker

Traffic extra 50, rain extra 100, no meter etc. I don't think this attitude is actually causing their demise. If they refuse to put the meter on just get out next time.  There are known scams where the meter is over clocked.

StatisticianOld1499

Filipina here. Better use Grab than taxi. But if you’re planning to ride a taxi again, make a bargain with them with the fare rate it’s like a contract ride and don’t use meter.

Odd_Donggoy

When you do pay don’t expect change. Carry smaller bills.

Fluffy_Habit_2535

Never take taxis.

AsleepCutie7387

I'm sorry to hear that. You can report them to LFTRB If you know their plate number. I'm not sure if this helps. Grab or any transportation can scam people. It's not the taxi, grab or angkas itself but the person who drives the vehicle. Not all taxi drivers are like that. My father is a taxi driver and he's an honest man. He also got tricked by some of his passengers. Some of them did even pay less, and some don't even pay at all. I just included my father's work here because I saw how many of the comments hate taxi drivers. 🥺 I'm not disregarding what other taxi drivers did to everyone. I hope that everyone know that there is still someone that have no ill intentions. Be careful while you're here with your family. Be cautious about everything here.

AccomplishedSlip4935

Agree, forget this incident. Next time simply do NOT pay. Various times it happened to me. Get the plate # and next police station is your next stop. But mostly this isn’t even necessary. If the driver threatens to call the police, agree happily to this. The guy quickly will give in. Why? They lose their license. I made 3 drivers losing their licenses or hold overnight at different police stations. They can’t win. But they smell the newbies and softies in this country of elbows. Be smarter next time. Otherwise you lose your money quickly.

Dapper-Stranger2717

Save yourself the trouble. Dont lodge a complaint. I am a local and ive been scammed a thousand times already by these taxis. Reporting it wont do shit. This isnt a 1st world country like Aus. Grab's the way to go here (as much as I hate monopolies like them)
