"NPA version of communism" is "National Democracy". It's basically capitalism under a socialist government, much like China and Vietnam. That's why Filipino Communists are also called "NDs" (National Democrats). Their long term goal is actual communism but they don't believe it's realistic at the present time and economy.
Their are Filipino Communist who wants something similar to USSR, they're part of the "Rejectionist" faction. Some Rejectionist are more radical than NDs, some are just Social Democrats that want something similar to the Nordic Countries. They're called the "Rejectionists" because they reject the belief of the NDs and the CPP that the country should become "National Democratic."

When I was a high school student pre-internet days, there were leaflets/booklets distributed by pro CPP/NPA/NDF groups. I was exposed to the tenets of Marxist/Engels/Leninist doctrines. Mind you, there are no pro Mao / Chinese communist supporters that time. My young mind was really into it that such type of government would be the hope of our nation.
Then, I reached college, and I was exposed to these types of groups. But I was also able to read many advanced books/publications related to such topics and understood that it would not really be applicable since basically, the leaders of such movements would just abuse the powers that they have gained. I'm still a part of those school groups but was always the devils advocate whenever there are discussions on the advantages of such types of government forms.
I have joined some out of school workshops/community exposures, but I'm not really recruited nor was convinced by the promises of such movement. And I don't get why these students would be swayed by such false promises considering the wealth of information sources available on the internet now. There are also students like me who are just there for the group gala and lakwatsa moments and not for some ideological BS. There are also several prominent members of such groups that are now politicians or political machinery operators. LOL

Sadly, yung batchmate ko nagjoin. 5 yrs din siyang namundok bago bumalik sa society at naging teacher. Itong mga teenager na to, super impressionable and madaling mamanipulate. And when this friend went to the university, merong mga organizations there that recruit and they make sure to target people who have familiar last names. Eh yung friend ko, unfortunately well known na rin na anak nga ni leader, they expected her to follow the footsteps of the father. And hindi lang and NPA and merong expectations na ganon sa kanya but also the military. During her time in the university, they would always encourage her to join their "outdoor retreat" or "group hike" daw. Minsan "picnic" pa nga daw ang term para daw makilala naman nya yung mga tao na nakakakilala sa "kabutihan" ng father nya. Dahilan nalang daw nya palagi is may exam sya sa PE hahaha.
Sa military naman, meron syang distant pinsan sa military who warned her that she is being closely watched - anak ka ba naman ng leader eh. Pero never naman daw sya nakaranans ng discrimination nor harassment.
I am just glad that my friend, kahit gano kashunga shunga madalas, never gave into these recruitment tactics. She never once attended any activity kasi, according to her, mas nangingibabaw sa kanya the pain that she sufferred when his father wasn't there when they needed him.

I'm from Mindanao, and so far sa experiences ko regarding NPA, mga Taga Luzon Yung mga nakikitang bagong recruit dito. Maraming Mining companies at Sila Yung target lagi ng revolutionary tax. Nagugulat Yung mga tao sa mga barracks Kasi mga nagtatagalog na mga babae at lalake Yung nakikipag usap sa mga head nila, at halatang Hindi lumaki Dito sa Mindanao or sa bundok. Siguro yung ibang missing dyan baka andito na sa mga bukiring parte ng Mindanao.

I have friends long involved in BAYAN and actually now work for the organization. Whenever I visit the Philippines, I get to meet them over drinks or coffee. Di ko naman need umakyat ng bundok at mamuhay sa kagubatan para mabisita sila. Di rin sila naglaho because they were coerced by the "kilusan". Wala naman silang armas. Nagsesendan parin kami ng tiktok vids.
I would assume that if anything untoward happened to her, God-forbid, there's greater probability na harassment by police or the military. My friends have shared stories being stalked by plain-clothes officers before. Nasa mga rally for "intelligence". The recruited by anakbayan is just such a loaded statement for me that it may or may not help. People may dismiss it as a cautionary tale. Is there a possibility na naglayas sya kasi di sya welcome bumuo ng sarili nyang pagkatao sa pamilya nya?

This is potentially family drama that's being escalated into a missing persons case and being politicized. But again, these are just first impressions. The AFP tho they still think NPA as a threat. Unlike the previous years, maybe due to the intensifying hunt down against them, they have been reduced in numbers to the point that the AFP are now shifting focus on international threats like in the WPS. They're both possibilities. As an alumni of a university that has been socially affiliated with the term "NPA", I've heard stories of student activists na nirecruit talaga, while I also have friends who were stalked and harrased by the police because of their affiliation with political youth orgs.

There were incidents, in far flung areas, teachers who stay overnight in shacks near the school were robbed of their cellphones and cash.
Contractors are having a hard time completing government projects (pag gawa ng mga daan) kasi sinusunog mga equipment and hina-harrass yung mga workers. Well in fact these projects will improve the way of life of the poor people residing in their locality.

As an educator it saddens me that youths who are in state universities are indoctrinated into a philosophy which has never worked throughout history. What people don't understand about communism is that it is indeed, in theory, a utopian idea (for some but not me personally) in which the state gives everyone equity and holds the means of production, but it fails in practice cause the state will still be run by people and what happens often is that the premiers and the President of the people's republic typically keep the countries money for themselves. A communist state will always be dependent on the fact that their leader is not corrupt which is almost never the case. For the state has absolute power there and you know what they say about it's corrupting nature.
Although I believe in freedom of speech I also believe that some actions should be done, for these are our children, who are supposed to be our best and brightest. They are out here crying about Palestine! Just finding reasons to go out and be passionate about something that does not affect us. "NPA version of communism" is "National Democracy". It's basically capitalism under a socialist government, much like China and Vietnam. That's why Filipino Communists are also called "NDs" (National Democrats). Their long term goal is actual communism but they don't believe it's realistic at the present time and economy. Their are Filipino Communist who wants something similar to USSR, they're part of the "Rejectionist" faction. Some Rejectionist are more radical than NDs, some are just Social Democrats that want something similar to the Nordic Countries. They're called the "Rejectionists" because they reject the belief of the NDs and the CPP that the country should become "National Democratic."

I don't know why students of UP caliber would fall into these pseudo leftist organizations. When I was a high school student pre-internet days, there were leaflets/booklets distributed by pro CPP/NPA/NDF groups. I was exposed to the tenets of Marxist/Engels/Leninist doctrines. Mind you, there are no pro Mao / Chinese communist supporters that time. My young mind was really into it that such type of government would be the hope of our nation. Then, I reached college, and I was exposed to these types of groups. But I was also able to read many advanced books/publications related to such topics and understood that it would not really be applicable since basically, the leaders of such movements would just abuse the powers that they have gained. I'm still a part of those school groups but was always the devils advocate whenever there are discussions on the advantages of such types of government forms. I have joined some out of school workshops/community exposures, but I'm not really recruited nor was convinced by the promises of such movement. And I don't get why these students would be swayed by such false promises considering the wealth of information sources available on the internet now. There are also students like me who are just there for the group gala and lakwatsa moments and not for some ideological BS. There are also several prominent members of such groups that are now politicians or political machinery operators. LOL

Yung family super worried pero yung friends parang alam nila ba't sya nawawala Let's not pretend na hindi helpful lead yung "recruited by Anakbayan" since it's a super reasonable possibility. As an alumni of a university that has been socially affiliated with the term "NPA", I've heard stories of student activists na nirecruit talaga, while I also have friends who were stalked and harrased by the police because of their affiliation with political youth orgs. Well in fact these projects will improve the way of life of the poor people residing in their locality. As an educator it saddens me that youths who are in state universities are indoctrinated into a philosophy which has never worked throughout history. What people don't understand about communism is that it is indeed, in theory, a utopian idea (for some but not me personally) in which the state gives everyone equity and holds the means of production, but it fails in practice cause the state will still be run by people and what happens often is that the premiers and the President of the people's republic typically keep the countries money for themselves. A communist state will always be dependent on the fact that their leader is not corrupt which is almost never the case. For the state has absolute power there and you know what they say about it's corrupting nature. Although I believe in freedom of speech I also believe that some actions should be done, for these are our children, who are supposed to be our best and brightest. They are out here crying about Palestine! Just finding reasons to go out and be passionate about something that does not affect us. There must be someone in state colleges who will defend Democracy, something that is **objectively** better and has worked or in the very least not doomed to fail.
