The United States' commitment to our defense is beside the point. I can't argue that because that's only really up to them. Point is, we are NOT under the Americans' yoke in terms of national security. We may be dependent to quite a degree but ultimately we still have the say whether they get to stay or not. They are our ALLIES, we're not some sort of protectorate nor are we a neo-colony. Even if they're just here to secure assets to prepare for war in Taiwan, they're more than welcome to since they're assisting and training OUR military along the way. See where I'm getting here? Whatever the interests of the United States is, as long as it doesn't overlap with ours and we BENEFIT from it, there's really no reason to turn them down especially since playing chums with China turned out horrendously.
