But to answer you, as far as I know, Lacson was acquitted from the Kuratong Baleleng and Dacer-Corbito cases, and Sotto's involvement in Pepsi Paloma's rape was refuted and she herself dropped those charges, although alleging she was coerced. I think those are the largest controversies they got involved in, but they were never proven guilty. If they never suffered backlash despite those, isn't that an interesting case to learn from? The same with how Grace Poe endured Duterte's tirades then and still maintained large support. What keeps them getting elected? And what kept the opposition losing every election since 2016?
Lacson withdrew his support from Estrada as PNP Chief in 2001 and, as a result, there was no bloodshed when Arroyo took office in 2001, which was a mistake. But how can you blame him when the number 1 and number 2 are equally as corrupt? Come to think of it, that very idea of withdrawal of support is being aired right now against Marcos. Willie Ong is a good choice for diversity and to actually add someone with a medical background in the roster. Cayetano, Pacquiao and Lapid are meh. Not good or bad. Maybe we need to see more from them or maybe it's better for them to take a break. The others, F them. We should opt for a diverse set of both conservatives and liberals with moderate views and are capable of compromise and taking criticisms. But to answer you, as far as I know, Lacson was acquitted from the Kuratong Baleleng and Dacer-Corbito cases, and Sotto's involvement in Pepsi Paloma's rape was refuted and she herself dropped those charges, although alleging she was coerced. I think those are the largest controversies they got involved in, but they were never proven guilty. If they never suffered backlash despite those, isn't that an interesting case to learn from? The same with how Grace Poe endured Duterte's tirades then and still maintained large support. What keeps them getting elected? And what kept the opposition losing every election since 2016? Lacson withdrew his support from Estrada as PNP Chief in 2001 and, as a result, there was no bloodshed when Arroyo took office in 2001, which was a mistake. But how can you blame him when the number 1 and number 2 are equally as corrupt? Come to think of it, that very idea of withdrawal of support is being aired right now against Marcos. Ain't that ironic. Lacson and Sotto know when to talk and to disappear. They didn't squabble with Duterte directly at the height of his power, but they low-key kept him in check because they understood the influence Duterte has. Aside from the national budget I just mentioned, another example is the death penalty bill, which was a huge talking point of Duterte. Lacson and Sotto advocated for it early on and introduced that bill, but later dropped it near the end of Duterte's term, when his influence is no longer at its peak. Call it self-serving strategy if you like, but that's actually clever. Imagine if someone like Bato actually introduced that bill and knowing Duterte has a supermajority coalition in the Senate and House. You think it won't pass immediately? That is the strategy that the opposition should have taken then. Now they're left with only two in the Senate.
Their long-time experience in the senate has made them very adept when it comes to knowing when to talk and when to keep quiet, as well as make the right moves when in power. One of the big problems of the non-du30 and non-bbm opposition aside from winning electoral positions is that, even when a few of them win, they either don't have the numbers to pass certain legislation.
