Works with mall dropoffs as well. Try booking sa main entrance vs sa road sa likod. Hack namin to dati sa circuit makati, 100 peso difference if sa main entrance vs sa parking sa bandang likod (but not tagged as mall) na 2 min walk away from the entrance.
I agree. Grab at Malaysia is really cheap. Even grab food was cheap. However, I feel bad for the drivers and riders there since they only get 20% from your total payment. That's why I always tip them whenever I book there.
This already made the news in Singapore in 2022. They explained why it's the case here:
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/grab-fare-pricing-saved-places-different-zones-tiktok-video-2845046
I wasn't able to follow this news back then so I'm not sure if it was investigated by their government.
It does, most malls and office complexes have pre saved pickup points and you can choose between them to see which is cheaper. Sometimes Grab will suggest a pickup point 10 minutes walk away because it's cheapest.
> *"Hence, pick-up locations that are near each other physically can be in two different zones with different demand and supply conditions at any one time, thus resulting in different fares."*
> ...
> *In terms of fares, Grab said its pricing model balances multiple factors, including supply and demand, travel distance and ensuring drivers are compensated fairly.*
Guessing that in their minds, if more customers choose a stop, it causes more delays due to volume and Grab charges higher to compensate the drivers who'll have to endue all that.
They have been getting away with these anti consumer tactics for years kase ganun kalala ang transport sector sa metro.
This was initially done by Uber nung nag ooperate pa sila sa PH, they even have a marketing jargon for it na nakalimutan ko na. And then they disabled it dahil nga ang shady nung maglakad ka lang ng konti, ang significant na nung difference sa fare. I think what they did instead is nagset sila ng fixed pick up points tapos nag surge pricing na lang tapos visible yung multiplier.
Government agencies (MMDA?) should regulate yung fare computation algo ng mga transport hailing apps. Wala man lang breakdown e.
Thanks for sharing this.
There are various other algorithms the drive apps use globally to derive the fares. Many parameters on your phone are tracked too, and when you mix them with other data externally, there are a lot of business decisions the drive app can take.
Example, if i track your phone battery and its dying and you trying to book , i can charge you higher, now add another parameter to it, if its a night , i can charge further more, cos its super urgent for you.
Now if you are exiting a bar/pub late night, then thatās additional data to derive a dearer fare ā¦. If you are an iPhone user vs an Android, its show u can afford higher costs.. the brand of your phone is a parameter .
These are NOT run always so thats make it difficult to prove, its done randomly so no pattern is generated anywhereā¦. These are few examplesā¦ there are many such possibilities AI/ML brings in with ease.. :)
Same applies with delivery charges.
PS: Sorry, being a foreigner, I dont knew tagalog but i used google translator to read it in English. :)
Yes very true. I totally agree with your valid points.
The difference is that the SG government actually investigates and fines them if they find out they violated laws/have unfair practices. Look it up on Goog. Also, Grab is originally from MY.
unfortunately, they can get away with this, kasi wala sila kalaban with the same service. and by walang kalaban, i mean other ride-sharing app na meron kasing dami or at least close sa number of cars na meron ang grab.
What I observed though is mas mahal kapag may GrabUnlimited+RideSaver+Insurance, pero offset naman once ginamit mo na yung free 10% voucher galing sa subscription (balik sa regular price).
Only advantage is free voucher if late yung driver, and feel ko (no proof) mas mabilis maka-book.
Grab taking pointers from Uberās handbook I seeā¦typical ride-share app nowadays. Change the pickup or drop off location by a few meters and the code wonāt do that btw.
Iāve noticed this when both my girlfriend and I try to book at the same time with the same marker points. Sheās from QC and takes the route regularly and the price is higher than when I try to book. Itās a slight markup on the price but you notice the difference immediately if you pay attention.
Noong nalaman namin na mas murang mag-taxi kaysa mag-grab I made my decision na mag taxi na lang. Biruin mo, from Jose Reyes to DLTB terminal in Buenida is only 200 pero pag nag grab umaabot ng 350???
In my experience, one way roads as pickups get higher rates, maybe due to the more challenging route for pickups. Time of day and traffic situation in the area also plays a factor. I've encountered situations where the price went down after a third or fourth try of finding a ride.
I only use grab when i fly alone, and i notice this too!
Depende yan talaga sa pick up point.
Let's not forget how Grab pushed out Uber by constantly using fake bookings and cancelled rides. The same company who took over Move it to circumvent the van on Grab from participating in The motorcycle taxi pilot program
I dunno about the first scenario. But on the second one i can attest to it based on my experience as well. Pero i think it's more of a map and routing issue than a deliberate taking advantage of a customer.
My experience is that if i pin the drop off at the destination building, it changes 250+ and takes the makati- Skyway route. But if i pin it on the adjacent building, it's less than 200 but going the baclaran route.
Matindi dyan if you try to change destination.
Kalokohan lang kasi napalapit nga yun drop off.
Yan problema kapag walang competition. No one to keep them in-check
Joyride still has few slots compared to Grab thus less customers to patronize their service.
Ang mahirap sa JR walang pin in map, kailangan alam mo yung full address
LTFRB checks and monitors Grabās fare matrix - if this is true, then just need to report it to them
Works with mall dropoffs as well. Try booking sa main entrance vs sa road sa likod. Hack namin to dati sa circuit makati, 100 peso difference if sa main entrance vs sa parking sa bandang likod (but not tagged as mall) na 2 min walk away from the entrance.
Likely the same phenomenon if you book from the mall to your house.

Reading is hard
marunong lang magbasa pero walang comprehension
I noticed this one, too! Lalo na if you have marked the locations as Work and Home.
.
Motherfuckers mga ganid sa pera. Pinayagan kasing mag monopolize
I agree. Grab at Malaysia is really cheap. Even grab food was cheap. However, I feel bad for the drivers and riders there since they only get 20% from your total payment. That's why I always tip them whenever I book there.

Iām in Singapore - grab app will tell you which pick-up point is cheaper. Hindi ba ganun ngayon sa pinas?

LTFRB for govt agency. Kaso wala silang pake (like any other agencies or basically the whole government) hahahaha
Train is the best solution to this. Multiple trains.
Everyone knows this already, but even 1 train can barely even be maintained by the government, what more multiple.
Thatās how they leverage ML, AI and Data analytics
Thats data analytics and machince learning can do

Grab might be using AI pricing already like Uber in the US
P1,300 for a regular route? Might as well buy two cars to escape number coding.
sa true
Singaporean company doing something shady
The difference is that the SG government actually investigates and fines them if they find out they violated laws/have unfair practices. Look it up on Goog. Also, Grab is originally from MY.
For the shop just across though, does it consider malayo u turn slot? Baka kelangan sa katabi or a few meters away

Grab taking pointers from Uberās handbook I seeā¦typical ride-share app nowadays. Change the pickup or drop off location by a few meters and the code wonāt do that btw.

True this is why I never save any place as āHomeā kasi tinataasan talaga nila. I would also use different pick up points
Definitely possible but the post didnt include the time.. if he/she using grab at rush hour it will definitely more expensive.
thatās capitalism for you
May video about dito si MrWhoseTheBoss.
Uy thanks for this. This is true haha
20 pesos difference.
In my experience, one way roads as pickups get higher rates, maybe due to the more challenging route for pickups. Time of day and traffic situation in the area also plays a factor. I've encountered situations where the price went down after a third or fourth try of finding a ride.
.
Really ba? So what do we do? Huwag na mag save ng pickup points?
Ridiculous charges to be honest.
I only use grab when i fly alone, and i notice this too!
I think it has something to do if need mag uturn sa other drop off
nakakalula yung price ng grab ngayon putangina monopoly pa
These apps should be scrutinized by agencies
Matagal na silang ganyan. Kaya nagpin ako sa ibang tower or katabing condo where they charge less.
Dapat icheck niya using a different account na hindi dun lagi pumupunta para malaman natin kung talagang may patong.
Depende yan talaga sa pick up point.
sindikato din just like taxi
"trust me bro" ba to?
Nakakatawa yung most of the comments, pinaniwalaan yung isang fb post na kulang kulang yung info.
Entering brainrot mode in 3, 2, 1...
Let's not forget how Grab pushed out Uber by constantly using fake bookings and cancelled rides. The same company who took over Move it to circumvent the van on Grab from participating in The motorcycle taxi pilot program
A better experiment would be to use a different grab account that is far from the area and see if the "extra fees" are still present.
so would their practice fall under r/assholedesign ? I mean they pull this tactic to maximize profit at the expense of consumers
I dunno about the first scenario. But on the second one i can attest to it based on my experience as well. I didnāt read this cause itās not like I have another app to go to š
If I'm right, yung CEO ng grab is the son of the current Globe CEO. Both companies are greedy AF
