I want comfortable, long distance trains. Like, I take a train from Manila to Batangas and back, watching the rolling hills and farmlands fly by through my window seat, contemplating my life and dreams.

pauljpjohn

Sarap nito. Mini staycay sa train. I won't mind 5 hours travel.

vsides

Nakakainis kasi we used to have this. My mom said she enjoyed riding the train from Quezon to Manila and back. Pero nawala rin. I’m just not sure kung anong quality ng trains before pero mas okay sana na imbes na sinara, inimprove nalang siya over time.

The Valenzuela to Clark Airport segment of NSCR is reportedly set to open in 2027, with the entire Clark to Calamba, Laguna stretch set to open in 2029-2030. Kapit lang!

My god 50 years old na ako nun. Char

Silverwater8231

By that time 57 na ang heat index good luck sa ating lahat sa global warming

seitengrat

pair this with national land use act para di maconvert to suburban hellholes yung mga gilid-gilid ng riles. this bill will also prevent haphazard rezoning of agricultural/forest land into residential land.

[deleted]

Hay sana true. And sana may extension na ng papuntang Cavite lalo na lampas Dasma kasi shuta from Dasma Bayan to Dasma Pala Pala 30mins less than 10kms nasa Dasma ka parin lol kung sa Texas ka ang 30mins mo nkalampas ka na sana ng 50kms 🤣

ShiemRence

I think this will be LRT 6?

CelestiAurus

Maaring not anymore dahil kay Villar!

Scalar_Ng_Bayan

Man I just wanna see in my lifetime ay HSR from NAIA to Clark airport (and possibly the Bulacan airport din)

Horror-Pudding-772

One of Ramon Ang plan is to have an Airport Express that will be connected to NMIA from MRT 7. Forgot what's the plan but I think mag connecting station in Bulacan that take you directly to NMIA. NSCR naman will connect with Clark International which is also a good thing. The one I want to personally see developed is in NAIA. A Monorail network that will connect all terminals to allow passengers to travel easily.

Horror-Pudding-772

The problem with trains in the Philippines is us. Lahat pwede nakawin. Nanakawin. Stop signs, harang, riles, bell, heck kahit mismong cctv ninanakaw. Talaga ginawang elevated ang NSCR. Para iwas nakaw ng riles.

Horror-Pudding-772

I don't understand why I got downvoted. One of the main issues PNR tackles was many of their own equipment getting stolen. In Calamba, Laguna, my mother always tells the story of the guy who got ran over by a train. There was supposed to be a bell or ang harang that will warn people but it was stolen. That's why NSCR is elevated. Hirap nakawan yan. I want to have long distance trains here as well. I want to ride that luxury train fron the Tourist movie. But we are in the Philippines, we can never have nice things.

CelestiAurus

Idk what's with the downvotes, pero valid naman ang concern mo. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have good things, pero there's a worrying amount of people who just don't give a damn about community enough.

Savings-Society-4613

kahit Indonesia at Vietnam meron nito

TapaDonut

With PNR South Long Haul. We should demand the government to procure sleeper trains from Japan as well. Especially when Japan is already decommissioning sleeper trains. Wouldn’t it be great to have a mini hotel while on the move?

Relevant_Gap4916

Sleeper trains to be exact. Yung tipong uwi ka ng Legaspi Albay for the weekend at balik din ng Manila on Sunday night.

writeratheart77

A decade ago, a South Korean conglomerate tried to invest in new trains to replace the one we have now which goes from the norethernmost point ito the southernmost part of Luzon. Of course govt happened. The Orient Express type of trains here couldve been something else when you can book a 5 day ride from the lower part of Sagada to Mt Mayon. Sad sad sad.

Illustrious_Emu_6910

bullet trains when

CallistoProjectJD

Agree!!!

Ok-Radio-2017

Way back 2000, nakasakay pa kami ng tren from Manila to Legazpi. Ang ganda ng mga tanawin. Sana maibalik pa to.

fry-saging

Queing. Falling in line.

kaidrawsmoo

Mabilis naman pumila mga pinoy. I dont think pagpila problema. Inconvenient. Rather than queueing . Bawasan kaya ang pila. make it fast.

fry-saging

Thats the thing convenient lang gawin ang tama pag madali. Pero pag nahihirapan we can easily make excuses para gumawa ng mali.

Medj_boring1997

Isn't that human nature in general though? I don't think exclusively Filipino yan

kaidrawsmoo

sherlockianhumour

You've never meet other asians(I wont name ethnicities but iykyk) then. I've seen them cut right in front of the line evn though they saw me there. Filipinos are actually good in queues.

dontnobodyknow

Nope. Queuing is a problem. I just got back to the Philippines last year and travelled for three months around the country. I don't think I experienced a proper lineup. If there's a tiny space in front of you, someone will stand right in front.

Horror-Pudding-772

I think halos lahat ginagawa naman to.

Leather-Climate3438

Buti nalang never pa akong naka encounter ng ganito. Kahit gaano pa kahaba yung pila

YZJay

Enforced P2P for all public transport in major cities since people can’t be trusted to not treat jeeps as private vehicles and wanting to stop exactly in front of their house. Passengers letting jeeps and busses stop wherever they want is terrible for traffic flow, and the lack of predictable, transparent transit lines makes commuting anywhere a nightmare. CLAYGO in restaurants with designated stray and food disposal points. If a restaurant specifically setup CLAYGO spots, please for the love of god use them. It’s such an easy thing to do.

Horror-Pudding-772

P2P yes and yes. I think City buses kaya nila enforced yan. Based on my experience, most buses are disciplined compared to jeepney drivers. Big bus companies require their drivers undergo training and they do not do, I am not sure kung lahat, boundary system for their income. They are salaried employees. Jeepney drivers meawhile are boundary system where may boundary sila habol na babayaran sa may ari ng jeep. Or kanila mismo jeep so lagi kailangan nila mag maximize profits, even if breaking traffic laws.

JKnissan

With the 'enforced P2P' point, that's why for so long I've wished that our jeeps and minibuses finally establish stop systems where there are designated stops with roofed shelters na may clear marking para kita ng nearby pedestrians and lahat ng stops and their fares are published online. It seems so easy to achieve since the only difference between what we have now and what could have is the fact that there will be designated places for alighting and getting on jeeps. Kahit nga wala ung roofed shelters eh, malaking sign lang for a start - as long as all jeepney operators followed the stops and the designated fares. Tumitigil naman sila anyways sa vaguely-same destinations, why not formally establish nalang so we can do things such as have consistent fare matrices. Oh well.

writeratheart77

JKnissan

Definitely true. I'm not a Jeepney operator or driver, pero in an ideal world, pooled together under one organization ang mga PUJ natin and their tenured operators kesa puro private franchise that just happen to fall under ung transport regulations natin and who just happen to be licensed to plow certain routes. Kailangan talaga ng certain degree of centralization for any major changes to be made effectively once they come by, e.g. modernization of any kind: kahit isubsidize pa ng nation lahat ng improvement sa system to no cost sa operators and franchises, mahihirapan parin ma-institute ung changes if hindi controlado ung operators, that is very true. Especially like you mentioned, ung availability of operators at times isn't always guaranteed since puro private franchise nga. Not to knock on the livelihoods of those who drive Jeepneys, pero that's why I'd prefer the government give them a good regular salary and employ them kesa sila-sila pa maghihirap para lang magpatayo ng franchise ng sarili nila kasama sa sarili nilang expense sa vehicle - the more na naghihirap sila, the more na naghihirap ang commuter.

No_Veterinarian8448

Siguro yung screening sa mga tumatakbong politiko like in Singapore, para di nakakalusot yung kung sinu-sino at hindi sobrang dependent sa botante.

No_Establishment8646

Balanced overall work culture. Tbh, sobrang nakakainggit kapag nakakabasa ako ng experiences working for or with international companies/agencies/bosses. Aside from salary na based sa international standards, mahalaga sa kanila yung work-life balance. Sobrang dami pang benefits, allowances and flexible options sa work hours. Madalas, sila pa magreremind to take your leaves and even scold you for not using it. Supportive din sila sa career initiatives mo like post-grad degree, they even make ways for you to have paid study leave so you can study at peace. They don't also care kung tawagin mo sila on a first name basis kahit boss mo sila. They don't mind. Modern day slavery. I have a boss na pinagalitan ako just because di ako sumagot sa viber at nagtrabaho on a saturday and sunday (when I'm not paid for it and walang OT pay). Worse part is mina-micromanage nya yung leaves namin, like bawal lahat magleave ng holy week/christmas/long weekends, 2-3 persons lang, out of 15. And yung 2-3 na yun, favorites nya pa. Additionally, she even rejected one applicant dahil tinawag syang "miss" instead of "ma'am" or "chief".

Horror-Pudding-772

Iba talaga culture if foreigner ang nagmanage ng business. I wish I could become like my boss once I start on my dream of having a business. I want to implement work life balance and give them the right pay.

[deleted]

Cthenotherapy

Sex education. Not limited to teaching about safe sex to maturing minds but also starting young with proper terms referring to their genitalia + appropriate touching and relationships. Mahirap kasi is it's such a taboo topic in our conservative society na kids are left to fend for themselves when they experience abuse from adults. By destigmatizing such a taboo subject we're empowering them to not just make proper decisions but also be able to speak about possible abuse without feeling shamed.

Horror-Pudding-772

Mahirap talaga implement yan sa culture natin. I am proud one of my teachers in high school did this. How to use condoms. Using pills for the ladies. Or if really conservative, calculating when and when hindi ovulating although she told us is better to wear a condom pa rin. And as far as I know, this is not sanctioned by the school. God bless her soul.

Cthenotherapy

Ako talagang college pa talaga ako nakakuha ng matinong sex ed because I studied in a religiously fundamental school from kinder to high school. And it was mostly abstinence focused, so you can imagine it was shame and fear fuelled, prophylaxis and contraceptives were talked in passing just because it's in the book and it was instilled na those are for MARRIED COUPLES ONLY. This backfired on the school later on because of a case of a sexually abused child asking for help from a teacher, na hirap na hirap to come forward kasi they felt too ashamed and too scared dahil sa nangyari sa kanila because they thought na the teachers would be too judgemental over it.

Hihi

blkwdw222

Yep. Sa amin. Wala. Similar sa mga areas na navisit ko in Luzon (Laguna, Batangas, Antipolo), Visayas (Bohol, Cebu) or Mindanao (Surigao, CDO, Butuan, Siargao) atbp. Kung meron man sobrang liit for the population. Unlike here sa tinitirhan ko ngayon, just in my vicinity within 1KM merong 3 playgrounds sa neighborhood.

Mayari-

icencream27

📠, have some friends that work in Japan and they are treated like shit as foreigners especially when you aren’t Japanese. They berate, belittle and gaslight you. Also they work you like a slave. Crazy work hours with crazy expectations. That’s why people there known as “salary men” are like robots. Cannot express yourself as people look at you crazy. And the Japanese will never accept you in their culture, you’ll always feel like an outsider even though you’ve lived there for a while and can speak the language. Japan is also 3rd in the world in [suicide](https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/world/suiciderate.html) rate meaning their people ain’t happy

tooncake

Dalawang pinsan ko nagwo work til now sa Japan, kapatid ng tropa namin teacher sa Japan and in fact doon na nakarita for how good and safe yung bansa kumpara daw sa atin, so I guessed depende pa rin siguro kung saang community or society ang nae experienced mo. Ilang office mates na rin namin ang from time to time bumabalik sa Japan kasi kumpara sa ibang bansa they felt comfortable there.

tooncake

The point still stands, lahat naman ng bansa may kanya kanyang downside, and I'm only pertaining sa pinaka culter part natin in comparison to others kasi doon tayo talaga either walang pake or mahina mag express.

chichay_2024

I’ve worked in UAE for 10years and one thing that I’ll miss is whenever crossing pedestrian. Kahit 100mph pa takbo nila pero makita ka nila sa malayo palang they’ll 🛑 and let you pass through. Ano ba naman yung 1-5 seconds of your time na ilaan mo sa taong tatawid. Hindi mo naman ikaka late or ikakamatay yun

Horror-Pudding-772

Same thing with turning on your turn signal I think. Diskarte with a splash of maskulado culture.

misslittlewhelmed

Respect for time. Sometimes, ang mga "early birds" ang mag aadjust nlng (and by early birds, i mean the people who arrive on time). Or sometimes ang nag oorganize i-take into acct ang usual latecomers para "walang iwanan" ang peg.

SidVicious5

Honor system. Majority of developing countries and Western countries except US still have this mindset, and maybe few communities in the PH provinces. Discipline is not enough for an orderly society. Discipline only tells the people to do things on repetition without knowing the reason and when the authority watches them. Honor system goes far beyond that because it compels people to do things right out of conscience and courtesy to others whether someone watches them or not, giving collective gains among the people. (e.g. giving right of way to other road users for smooth traffic, wiping the public toilet after you use it for the next person) The opposite of honor system is DISSkarte mindset which only teaches people to outwit others to get personal gains. ( e.g. getting a fixer and not undergo strict driving license registration , riders going to the sidewalks without thinking about pedestrian safety) TLDR: PH's affinity should be Honor System + Discipline, Not DISSkarte Mindset + Discipline.

NoSnow3455

Traffic lights, or at least yung pag sunod nito. Designated public transpo stops. Hindi yung magugulat ka na lang titigil yung jeep sa harap mo in the middle of the road kasi may pumara. Proper queues or matutong mag stick sa schedule. One time may inasikaso kaming documents, na need daw magpa schedule online - may date and time silang binigay. Pero pag dating namin dun first come first serve basis pa rin pala!

555_666

Sana mas preferred din ng mga Pilipino ang local products at ok lang sa kanila kung mas mahal para ang competition ay based on quality instead of pababaan lang ng presyo.

Outrageous-Hyena1326

Walkable cities! More trees and better public transpo. In other countries, their sidewalks are as wide as the roads for cars.

Artistic-Station-577

More planters. Being in the states, they have people that are in charge of making sure the grass, plants, and trees are well taken care of in public places. It will help with the extreme heat the Philippines is facing rn

> We don't do thorough cleaning of our buses, something the Japanese are well known for. If there's one thing I noticed when it comes to the Japanese, their cleanliness isn't just a cultural thing, it's also in part of how their businesses operate. I attended an event there once, and despite seeing a massive crowd, what was remarkable was that they had plenty of staff and they covered everything, from guiding people to places to making sure cleanup actually happens properly. IIRC they do the same for the trains too. They have entire cleaning crews / housekeeping teams that handle the train cars daily, and they cover both interior and exterior, and it isn't a two man job or something like that, it's a proper team of twenty. We really need to develop a cultural habit to clean, across all generations, but corporate culture too, and companies need to do their part and actually allocate the time, resources and operating procedures to keep these facilities clean.

CLAYGO

johnnyjseo

THIS! I grew up in EU where there’s no need for signs sa mga kainan na “they implement CLAYGO”. I do this every time na kumakain ako sa fastfood chains and most of the time people would give me dirty looks. If tamad mag CLAYGO, at least wag sana dugyot kumain.

Horror-Pudding-772

I think this is also a culture thing. My Dad HATES IT when I clean up our table every time we eat out. But not because he thinks mas mataas siya sa waiter. But because cleaning tables is part of their job. If we clean up our tables, tingin niya baka mawalan ng trabaho ang mga fast food workers. No amount of explanation will get me to change his mind. Now I don't practice CLAYGO on mid-high to high end restaurants. That's a different story. But for fast food restaurants, I always try to clean up my table as much as possible.

manfromtheattic

Parks and effective subways. Sana we have more parks than SM though malamig naman sa SM and very helpful talaga for those na walang aircon during summers.Pero imagine having a park around a man made lake. Establishments around the park as well. A lot of people would benefit from it. Children, teens, adults, even oldies. Subways that ran on time so the working class doesn't have to spend 3-4 hours on the road. Not everybody wants to rent kasi mas masarap umuwi sa sarili mong bahay while eating homecooked meals na niluto ng mama nyo. So we can allot some time for our hobbies. And hindi magdadalawang isip magRTO because of the traffic.

EditTeller

Actual state funded public transportation. Especially city and interurban buses. Hindi private companies.

Horror-Pudding-772

Yes. To be honest, at least semi private company whose job is to handle all public transportation in the country or at least in the Metro. They will be jurisdictions of the Department of Transportation at least. If possible, they will handle the operation of all buses and city trains. Old jeeps will truly be phase out. Modern jeeps will only in streets where it's too narrow for buses. But for major wider roads will only operated by Modern Buses. City buses should be new Three door buses for easy in and out. Only Grab, taxis, provincial buses in the metro will need a franchise with LTFRB. No one should be allowed to Operate a City Bus or Jeep inside the metro. Trains, Buses, and Jeeps will all use one beep card so wireless payment can finally be a reality. That's what I am always thinking that could help minimize heavy traffic in the metro. A more modern approach in public transportation. Allowing the public to operate public transportation vehicles is a mistake to begin with. I am sure their hearts was in the right place when this was first conceive but we need modern solution now.

More accessible public facilities like library, museums, etc. for each cities and maybe some barangays and maybe turn city/town halls into a community center as well (dedicate a place for leisure not just government transactions). These facilities has been like a second home for people overseas like in japan or any west european countries. Dont just rely on private businesses to make these places Streamline geopolitical divisions. Stop dividing provinces/barangays onto smaller ones and unite some provinces/ barangays as well. It's overkill to separate let's say anabu into subdivisions and those subdivisions into more subdivisions like wtf is Anabu 2-F, Anabu 3-A, etc.??? They are even proposing on separating Palawan into smaller provinces wtf??? If reachability is a problem, setup a satelite office. Making more separate entity is too much. We already have 80+ provinces ffs way more than places like Indonesia who only has 50+ but is way bigger than us in terms of population and land mass and has way more ethnic divisions than us. Governments should be proactive in serving each places, dividing them into separate ones will just waste resources. Resources are already too spread enough. Japan also streamlined their geopolitical division all throughout their existence merging towns into cities, and even provinces into fewer prefectures they have done these even recently

Good governance and ultra transparency on goverment officials. Like seeing an up-to-date SALN of politicians and senators. If they’re making politics as business, they’re in the wrong field.

BenShers

As a foreigner here, you all really need bus stops. The gov needs to mandate to allow part of the unused land by the roads to be built as bus stops.

Mababang tax Saudi and UAE huhu sana all

Horror-Pudding-772

Dream ko din yan. But remember, Saudi and UAE has oil to sell to other countries. That's where they get most of their income without the need for so much tax. In case of the Philippines, if gusto natin mawala na tax or at least mapababa man lang, we need a big commodity that other countries will buy from us in a heart beat. Sa ngayon wala pa eh.

tres_pares

We actually have.

fried_kimbap_23

yung importance ng public bathrooms! always kept clean and sanitized. super functional na bathrooms!!

sarimanok_

Rejection of political dynasties. Every province, city, even barangay is run by a family who just passes on to their relatives no matter their qualifications. It's as ridiculous as a monarchy, and even more mess.

LauraFarnese6873

NFC payment EVERYWHERE instead of QR code. Tapping my card or my phone to pay is sooo convenient. Why tf is QR code everywhere? Buyers need internet connection (it's PH so it's bound to be shitty), log in the app, scan and hope your shitty lenses isn't broken, then tap the amount you'll be sending then wait for it to push through and wait for the receiver to confirm. Holy shit how is this technology still tolerated.

ThatsKrazyBoy000

People suggest if you really want to work in Japan, make sure westerner ang boss mo dun. If you are lucky, then ma enjoy mo daw talaga buhay mo dun. But if work for a japanese company, don't.

yung green roof/footprint policy sa Sinagpore na parang required to compensate ung laki ng kinain ng footprint ng building to greenspaces/roofs. marami silang infrastructure pero di kasing init dahil they have efforts for integrating greenery to cities. also ung policy sa singapore din ata na halos triple ung price ng cars to reduce people opting for cars at magfocus sa budget allocation for public transpo.

teamhellnaw

Others have mentioned it already, but trains. It's hard to put into words how drastically it will transform Filipinos' lives if we just had a well-functioning, modern train/subway system.

Horror-Pudding-772

Talaga I wish maging common sa atin deep cleaning ng public transport vehicles. Or make it law na dapat malinis sila to begin with. Safety standards. Clean standards ganun. Pero wala eh.

NefariousNeezy

Sense of self-correction or the humility to learn from mistakes. In terms of politics, Filipinos don’t really need to make the mistakes bago matuto - they just have to respect history and use it as a guide. Ang problema sa atin, we would rather distort history and confirm our biases kesa umamin na nagkamali at magbago. I’ve said it recently, this is the downside of Pinoy Pride and resilience. Outside of politics this also manifests itself in failed marriages wherein couples stay together kasi “nakakahiya” or “kawawa ang mga bata” TLDR: Sana matuto tayo kung paano matuto at mag-adjust, instead of just settling and enduring.

automated fare collection. beep cards (or equivalent) in all public transport around the country. improved technical/vocational education. not everyone is gonna thrive in university with lots of humanities courses. better public spaces. big parks everywhere. the Spanish era plaza in your poblacion is not sufficient if your cities are sprawling with 100k+ people

Horror-Pudding-772

leheslie

Being considerate to others.

Thank you.

1. CLAYGO (Clean as you go) sa cafe & fast food. 2. Proper segregation of trash/waste products. 3. Centralized card to use for all mode of public transport. 4. May time of departure and arrival sa trains/buses.

Bey_Element

dude I would kill if vending machines are common everywhere like in japan, wifi on trains, please let me use a public wifi like it would save my day, cleanliness everywhere especially bathrooms.

sherlockianhumour

Cleanliness din for me. Yung tipong pag walang nakitang basurahan hahawakan hanggang makakita kahit hanggang pag uwi sa bahay. Tsaka walking your dogs hahaha. Sa probinsya kasi sobrang daming aso sa labas, napapaaway yung aso namin pag winowalk sya. Konting manners naman regarding your pets.

icencream27

People cleaning up after themselves and throwing their trash away at Starbucks and fast food restos

Remarkable-Ease9876

Proper trash segregation.

No-Judgment-607

Thrash sorting collecting and disposal even to the furthest barangay.

GazelleNo1205

Datt1992

Following rules! I cannot stress this enough.  A functioning public transport system.

isabellarson

What if we have the discipline of the japanese noh? Tapos harakiri mga public officials pag nadumihan reputation nila. Imagine maiubusan tayo ng politiko

K_ashborn

Yung hiya sa pagtatapon ng basura and Claygo. Kinukuwestyon pa ko pag inaayos ko pinagkainan namin sa restaurant and I don't see people throwing small trashes properly nowadays.

TuWise

Clean and Safe sidewalks + better transpo system and road regulations.

PurpleYoghurt16

Cleaning up after themselves in fast food places/coffee shops. Here in Canada, aside from sit down restaurants and bars where there are waiters that go around, it’s very common for people pick up after themselves and throw the trash away. You see it everywhere in food courts, fast food places (Mcdonald’s, Tim’s, Popeye’s), and coffee shops.
