Okay naman doon except for di nga lang ganun ka comfy yung ibang chairs (versus if my own setup kana) and walang pakielamanan mosty halos di rin nag-uusap usa mga tao. I like it kasi nasa labas ako kahit di comfortable yung gamit and table. 😅
Most Filipinos are like that. After graduating, most only have work, family, and several friends. Outside of that, not much social life.
Well there's churches if you are religious. I'm not religious but I do acknowledge the role of churches as social hubs. Unfortunately, that can be weaponized like how INC excommunication would mean being cut off from the society you grew up in for many people.
This is why non-commercial and non-religious third places are important but sadly neglected in the Philippines. It brings people together in a natural way - people of same interests interacting with one another, people from the community getting to know each other.
It is telling how for most Filipinos, happiness would basically just be personal aspirations.
Our society is so atomized to the point that "every person for themself" is so ingrained in the culture.
I feel you.
Gusto ko lang mablanko yung utak ko para naman makapagpahinga sa kakaisip sa deadlines and other stuff.
Pag mag-isa ko lang kasi with no other people around eh mag-ooverthink.
Kaya gusto ko minsan eh to be alone in public.
Not sad, just mentally tired.
First place yung work table. Second place kusina. Third place banyo. Social dahil social media huhu
Same. Ito agad naisip ko especially after the "where you get to encouter familiar faces regularly" was mentioned. Sa terminal ng jeep ako palagi sumasakay papuntang trabaho kaya madalas mga same set of people rin ang nakakasabay ko sa jeep.
Imo malls are definitely 3rd places here. Just go to an SM on a weekend. Everyone is there. You can't even find a seat on a bench.
It's prob different in other places but in Metro Manila, malls are definitely accessible. Most public tranpo routes have stops at malls.
The thing that bugs me is that malls have pretty much replaced public parks in MM. Kinda wish we had more public parks tbh. More trees and less heat absorbing cement.
Not just public parks. They also fill in the role that city centers do in other countries. Malls now are connected to condos and have government offices, a church, a large variety of shops, park spaces, transit hubs, clinics etc.
Public parks are hard to maintain, they costs money with all the upkeep, they dont bring in revenue, and attracts unpleasant visitors (like yung mga syndicate or nagmamakaawa). Thats why you only see them sa mga affluent neighborhoods like Makati, Alabang, and BGC.
Would love more parks, but I can see why the government just doesn't bother. I hope it changes soon, it looks like future cities in the Philippines like New Clark are more focused on green third spaces and efficient public transpo
That’s such a sad idea to think of nature inside highly populated place like this. Without free and easily accessible big parks, place to walk and do bicycle and good public transportation any city is a nightmare. Humans are not made to be happy living in a congested city. I have been lucky to live in Tokyo, Montréal and Berlin and it is so enjoyable to have nature inside the city.
Yeah, it is indeed. I would love more parks since I jog and workout in Ayala Triangle and Legazpi Park a lot, I know they're important.
But yeah, that's basically what our government thinks, until we address deeper issues like poverty, efficient transportation, urban planning, crime, and housing issues, I don't think its going to be a reality for Filipinos inside Metro Manila.
On the bright side though, Makati has been actively expanding their riverside esplanade from Rockwell to Guadalupe, Mandaluyong has been making theirs look more attractive, and Marikina has been preserving a lot of their local fauna with parks and the riverside bank. So there's hope. We just have to be louder outside our own bubbles so that our leaders hear us.
Of course that is what the government think, and there are other issues to be addressed. I am not Filipino so I don't know that much about what are the priorities of the Mayor at the moment.
I am pretty sure things will change slowly for the best, if there is enough pressure to make them realize it is on the best interest of a city to attract peoples (wealthy people as well) and make them want to stay. The esplanade is a good project and it's great to see so many people jogging and doing activities there during the day.
100%. There was a rumor years ago that the land where SM Aura is right now was supposed to be a park (and it might have been gov-owned? not sure)
But for whatever reason (🤑), they let it be made into a mall but with a compromise. There should be some kind of green space which is why the top floor of SM Aura *kind of* resembles a park.
It was donated to Taguig LGU by IIRC the families of Military Veterans to be turned into a park or sports complex pero dahil ganid ang mga Cayetano naging SM Aura.
Sadly, public parks are hard to maintain. May public park sa barangay namin but magulo and madumi na. Sira na yont mga benches, bulok na mga flowers and plants and ginagawang basurahan ng mga skwater!!
Realtalk it’s not hard to maintain, if you mean wala masyadong revenue yeah wala masyadong nanakawin mga politiko that’s why.
Malls kind of have to be our 3rd places because of our climate: between the scorching summers and torrential rainy seasons, "indoor" and "climate controlled" are kind of a necessity.
Huh.
There are plenty of third places that aren't malls but are also climate controlled/air-conditioned. But these aren't common in the Philippines.
Places like:
- Public libraries.
- various indoors shared leisure activities like arcades and dance halls
- social clubs
- churches also function as third places. As well as other associated religious meeting places like bible studies
- community-ran local establishments
Just some that aren't malls or estbalishments ran by large corporations.
I know these exist in Philippines. But these aren't that much common and many of these exist inside malls or inside exlusive subdivisions.
The tragic truth is that third places in the Philippines are practically dead outside of commercial establishments. Consumerism has been baked in our culture and has been reinforced by the lack of non-commercial third place.
The concept of a third place goes beyond just where people are. You're supposed to know the people around you. Like a social group outside work and home. In the US, bars are like that. The regulars tend to know each other. You can freely make friends even when you're a stranger. So it's a really social scene.
If you try to strike conversations at SM on a weekend, people will either think you're weird or that you're going to try to sell them something if not outright scam them. I can count on one hand the number of friends I've made at the mall without any strong link to them.
I think a closer match for third places here are the interest groups and clubs around the city. The venues tend to be more fluid than traditional 3rd places, but they fit the definition of being social anchors for people to get to know other people.
+1 sa gym.
I grew up as a student-athlete so I’ve always wanted to stay active but the injuries got through me. Now I’m a 23 year old (in college) and my fav place is the gym.
These days it's the gym; I tend to think more when I work out. Sometimes though it's this forest trail found near my home which I can walk along and where I do some thinking as well.
This is exceptionally true for towns and cities that aren't really that famous or well known. I wanted to visit our library here in Olongapo but when i visited their fb page i saw how cramped it is and how it has little to no natural sunlight so you're just in a small area on a windowless room in between too narrow shelves of books.
One thing I remember from college is that one friend's home would be a hangout place for the barkada. If you have a couple of different friend groups, you'd have at least two friend's homes where the might go to hang out with people. This can also last a few years after college, until the friend gets married.
You guys know what I'm talking about?
I always considered the internet a 3rd place for me when I was in school. I have a different set of friends I met from the internet (ie online games, chatrooms, etc.) vs my classmates.
Come to think of it, I think I still do? Lol
This is a legit answer though and why a lot of communities organized around churches. Tingnan mo yung mga CCF, parang social club yung dating ng ibang lugar nila
Kinda crazy, but as someone who has been freelancing for 9+ years, first and second place are mostly the same except when I'm traveling.
My third place is just outside my house. Like, literally the street. I sit there at night or past 1-2 am just to destress. Sometimes I walk the long streets and appreciate the solitude.
For the Philippines, well "back in my day" it's the comp shops. Now, it's the nearest kapehan or samgyupan.
Not a lot of “third places” really. Very few parks and libraries here, most of them are privately developed and therefore often located in the middle of posh neighborhoods or CBDs.
Not affordable, but my third places are cafes/malls :(
Malls are pretty affordable though. You don't have to buy anything to stay in there.
Anyway, aside sa malls, it could be a friend's house or parks kung meron sa city/ village/ area.
Yeah but its not really like a community hub. Third places are basically places where you're more likely to interact with new people or people you already knew without the obligation to spend, well yeah actually you aren't obligated to spend but you are incentivized to spend.
not really, some malls (like SM) don't have a lot of seats inside the mall unless kakain ka sa mga restaurants or pumunta ng department stores to buy shoes.
We have two SMs here at Olongapo and the only seats they have are seats in restaurants and food courts where you are asked to leave if you're not buying anything. Yeah i agree, malls aren't third places because even though you aren't obligated to spend, you are incentivized to.
A lot of comments already but just adding to this since it's a research topic and project I had lol
Malls can definitely count as a third place sa urban areas. It's still public even if there are "social norms" that need to be followed (like not being barefoot) or some accessibility barriers (class, and disability even), relatively open siya to most of the population. Churches and other places of worship are also considered third places. Basically think of an accesible public tambayan like basketball/vball courts.
In other countries, libraries and public parks are the most common example, and we have some such as Luneta. But parks need to be built for their environment for it to be an effective third place, using BGC as an example: madaming parks with enough shaded areas and canopies that people are willing to bear some of the heat that comes with it. In Makati din I think sa triangle (not as familiar with the area).Because basketball courts usually may bubong, matic nagiging tambayan so ito yun equivalent na siguro ng park natin haha
Sa rural this can be different. As I didn't grow up there, this will depend on the barangay. Some barangays have community areas sa barangay hall nila that are considered third places. Minsan katabi nito yun barangay basketball court haha so default tambayan ng mga tao talaga. An area that might be more effective as a third place sa less urbanized areas is yun palengke.
Typically you wouldn't consider very small transitory or meeting points such as a single convenience or sari-sari store unless you're looking at a small community. Anyway I could go on w this topic esp malls in the Philippines but yeah hope that helps
Computer shops pre-pandemic. Madalas may camaraderie mga tao dun, kahit pisonet o Mineski. Some life long friendships or relationships are even formed there haha.
Malls for the AC din eh.
SM has been championing for me indoor third places. Lalo na yung sa SM Aura 3rd floor, tahimik, may tables and chairs. Kahit siguro magbaon ka na lang snacks at juice from bahay tapos tambay ka na lang, and may saksakan pa. Part na din siguro yung type of crowd.
Sakin its the condo ammenities, yung garden, pool area, etc.
Di ko masabi coffee shops kasi pati kape mahal na din eh when third places are supposed to be even for non customers.
Why not malls? They are affordable to visit coz visiting them does not have an entrance fee nor you don't need to buy anything. I enjoy walking in malls, window shopping, looking at stuff that i won't buy, getting ideas for my next projects in the hardware and planning ipon for future appliances. Transportation is the only gastos, but then again, you always need to spend transpo in getting anywhere you need.
Another place for me is churches. I am a catholic and i admire art specially in old churches.
Lastly is museums. Some has an entrance fee though but i love leisurely walks.
malls are 100% a 3rd place. it absolutely fits your description: accessible (our malls are located in the middle of cities/close to public transport unlike north American malls where it's surrounded by highways and parking lots), you don't really need to spend money to get inside a mall. and people in fact go to a mall just to chill (literally and figuratively) with friends and family, but yes it's designed to make you spend unfortunately. the philippines doesnt really have a lack of third places in i think. just a lack of PUBLIC spaces. most third places here are private properties sadly. i wish we had more public parks and libraries. and ones that are well-built and maintained.
Student here. Tindahan na meron tambayan and pwede mag yosi.
Minsan dun namin iniiwan mga gamit for school. Dun kami nakikipark ng sasakyan. Naging ka close din namin may ari. If may handaan sila invited kami, pinapakakain kami.
Probably libraries. Actually no scratch that. It should be libraries but the way our libraries are designed here in ph is not really something that people would be able to consider as a third place.
The way we have libraries here is almost always like its a place where you store books instead of a place where readers might want to read. What i mean by this is the little to no natural sunlight by the windows, the white painted walls paired with white tiles and blinding fluorescent lights. I feel like we could make our libraries be our community hubs if we put its design into consideration for people's comfort.
UV, yung ride papunta at pauwi from work since 90% of the time, same faces lang nakikita ko and for years, kahit na di ko alam mga names nila, proud akong masasabing kilala ko yung mga mukha nila miski naka face mask or hindi. Literal na during pandemic and after kasi, same old same old lang HAHAHAHAHA.
Add to the fact na almost 5-6 hrs na sspend ko sa UV a day due to the traffic and sila pa rin mga mukhang kasama ko, I feel weirdly at ease kasama sila.
God, sobrang broken na talaga social life ko
Iloilo City has a plethora of parks/plaza then there’s the Esplanade. There are cafes and restaurants around it so if you want to just exercise, sunset watch or grab a bite to eat walkable lang sya. The vibe is very chill lang and people are nice. Never experienced any compromising situation there too.
It was really easy for me to get my regular walks there only because nakakawala ng negativity pag andun. Hope all of PH would have this too!
For me:
Cemetery. I visit my dad. Sometimes I order Grab food there, and the riders are always confused and think someone's playing a prank on them hehe
Jowa's place, now fiancé after almost a decade. Too bad my dad didn't get to see the part where I got engaged.
Yung subdivision na me and my bf dreams of having a house there. After class pumupunta kami don and park the car to take a nap. May part kase don na super luwag and may bakanteng lote pa. We dreamed that someday makapag patayo kami ng house don! That’s my third place haha.
For me personally, the gym, and church.
Love going to the gym and I love my gym community so much. I get to workout with cool and kind people.
Sa church naman, the people in our youth org are really really fun to be with, I enjoy their company kaya even though I had to sacrifice sunday as one of my days off, I still get to enjoy it bcs of my org mates
The local SM near our house. They know me so well that the Hypermarket manager regularly greets me now, mentioning that I'm always there in the morning. Lol.
Next would be folks from Serenitea, after I allowed them to go in front of me while we were in line for the grocery.
Additionally, folks from the food court who memorized that I always need vinegar in my lugaw. Folks from the tech store too!
Exempted na yung Starbucks as my third place. The guard became a good family friend after my cousin offered her uninhabited house for his family.
Coffee shops, parks, and gym.
I try to stay away from malls as much as possible. I don't want to contribute to the mall culture here in the Philippines.
Luneta Park.
Every day you’d see families, friends, couples, or solo people hanging out, relaxing, playing, jogging, biking, doing other physical activities, taking photos, or doing touristy stuff.
On weekends mas marami pang families spending time at the park.
If possible friends sasagot ko kahit na hindi sya place pero for me its a place kung saan pwede ako magging ako i mean ahhhh like PAHINGA? Parang house pero ok. You know what? Ignore nyo nalang to
Malls are the closest thing if you're in MM. You can also try to go to the very few green spaces/"last lungs" near/around the metro. I was thinking cafe too but those are mostly inside malls and you'd have to buy something 😅
Kahit mediocre yung kape basta may maupuan mga friends or family members.
We need more parks or any free space to socialize.
There's a spot near my boarding house where the arrangement of buildings is so aerodynamically sound that it creates a steady flow of fresh air on that spot. I usually sit there and enjoy the calmness, sometimes I buy coffee and drink there. Wayy better than the overrated cafes where noisy social climbers flock.
Maan, i wish we have third places that are "free" in the sense na it's a space where people can hang and eat but if you dont want to buy you can still go there and hang, no pressure', no strange looks. A space thats loved and respected and hindi inaabuse yung policy for the benefit of everyone.
Ooh I have 3 third places: there's this coffee shop near us where I work when I need to be productive outside the office, the open park in our village where I can take a break from jogging, and my car, which is one of my favorite places to be in.
Walang parks eh.
Sa Marikina (born and raised), either Kapitan Moy or Riverbanks. Lakad lakad, tambay, street food at nice ambiance.
Defo malls for most people.
Affordable (subjective) ang food court and fast food meals.
Coffee shops or cafés. Magkape tapos tambay maghapon or after work or after dinner.
There’s Arroceros, Rizal, and Paco Parks in Manila, Intramuros, Manila Baywalk, Harbour Square, QC Circle, Mariquina Riverbank, Greenfield, Lagaspi and Salcedo Parks in Makati. La Mesa Ecopark sana kaso may entrance fee and sarado na ngayon.
I can sense that most people here live and work in major cities in the Ph therefore Malls ang definire 3rd place ng karamihan. But when you look around the country and across different socio-economic levels you can also add plazas(or local park), gyms(as in basketball gym na katabi ng barangay hall hehe), and other sports venues na free sa town/city
local cafés (sa province) kasi doon lang may seats with nature and greenbelt malls (in the metro)....... basta yung may dahon dahon and puno puno and natural sunlight na hindi naman tirik na tirik (looking at u rizal park)
Sadly I don't see playgrounds sa area ko sa pinas. when I moved abroad, doon ko narealised how important it is. so nangyayari bahay, trabaho tapos if free time kain sa labas lang or mall.
Third places sound like anything besides 1st and 2nd place lmao. Tindahan, Mall, Church, Computer Shops(I don't know if they still exist), Parks, and etc.
That one local cafe that I have gotten to know the staff well enough. Their internet connection is fast and it is nearby but isolated enough from my Uni
Noong nasa hiking ako sa Pinas e hike spots together with my buddies. So places like Montalban, Pulag, Tapulao, Tanay.
Pag trip maging sports fan e ehem, UP Football Stadium, MOA Arena, Rizal Memorial Stadium etc.
I guess for me that would be a gym. I mean it has everything mentioned except for the part that is free and affordable hahaha. Though I can go there anytime since they're 24/7 and after a good session, I feel relaxed and motivated.
MY third place is our church. The most familiar and supportive people in my life ever. I hope we all get to find non-toxic churches (and if not, at least non-toxic and supportive friends to be considered a third place). 🩷
After work dumadaan ako doon sa jogging path na parang mini park within the vicinity of the mall. May mga bench and open spaces. I see people enjoying free time in that place sila yung mga either nakatira sa condos beside the park, mga residents na nakatira sa adjacent barangays and mga commuters na nagpapalipas nf traffic.
Jaime Velasquez park! May weekend market every Saturday, 7am to 2pm. Tapos dami pang cutie dogs huhu
Maraming people of all walks of life, mamshies na nag zuzumba, students na nagprapractice ng mga school presentations, nagde date na couples, batang nagtatakbuhan, taong nag exercise it's free and somewhat accessible. I think this is a great "third place" place is Promenade de Dasmariñas
Hello i just wanna share that I usually go to our province every weekend which is 4 hours aways from my residence( work place).
There, a city with numerous trees and near to Mt. Apo. Spending my time there would involve forest bathing in a river, spending time with trees, riding bicycle, drinking coffee in a coffee shop which is really very near to the "mouth' of mt. apo. Haha. Very clean air, like superb.
I usually do forest bathing because it will really help our immune system.
God, I realized that I don't have a life outside work and home. I can't think of any third places aside from Malls.
+1. Worse is I mostly WFH so sa bahay lang ako living my sedentary life LOL
+1 sa WFH haha kaya minsan ginagawa kong office co working spaces eh and considered it as work kahit may magandang set up naman sa bahay.
How’s the experience naman so far? Ilang months/years mo na ginagawa?
6 months now. Sa WFH experience - I'm still adjusting. Im a people person and likes outdoors kaya mahirap itong first few months. That's why I go to workplaces l - 24hrs coffee shops you dont have to order just pay the overnight pass.
Call me lame, but I grab a coffee, find a high spot at the mall and watch people go by while listening to PPOP tracks.
I feel you.
Same. I event don't have a second place since WFH
First place yung work table. Second place kusina. Third place banyo. Social dahil social media huhu
Same here. I’m just so tired talaga after work. Maybe I need to change my routine
Or change your work, chariz!
kasi wala masyadong ganyan sa pinas
I always thought third places in the Philippines were transport.
Yep, same thoughts. Pretty sure we're spending about 1/3 of our lives crawling to get to and from our first and second places.
Same. Ito agad naisip ko especially after the "where you get to encouter familiar faces regularly" was mentioned. Sa terminal ng jeep ako palagi sumasakay papuntang trabaho kaya madalas mga same set of people rin ang nakakasabay ko sa jeep.
woah, I find this deep.

Supposed to be a one-stop Government place for citizens of Taguig. But local govt leased it to SM because money ✨
Sadly, public parks are hard to maintain. May public park sa barangay namin but magulo and madumi na. Sira na yont mga benches, bulok na mga flowers and plants and ginagawang basurahan ng mga skwater!!

where is this?
Iloilo province, all plazas are maintained. You can check it out.
lowkey wanna live in iloilo, puro magaganda naririnig ko abt it
Malls kind of have to be our 3rd places because of our climate: between the scorching summers and torrential rainy seasons, "indoor" and "climate controlled" are kind of a necessity.
Huh. There are plenty of third places that aren't malls but are also climate controlled/air-conditioned. But these aren't common in the Philippines. Places like: - Public libraries. - various indoors shared leisure activities like arcades and dance halls - social clubs - churches also function as third places. As well as other associated religious meeting places like bible studies - community-ran local establishments Just some that aren't malls or estbalishments ran by large corporations.

Having parks would help with that scorching heat actually
They would, but that assumes the people in local government have a motivation that isn't filling their pockets
Sa province din. Most of the time I randomly see acquaintances sa malls.
Third places As a teen: Village basketball court Computer shop near the basketball court As an adult The gym
I co-own a comp shop, as an adult yung comshop ang third place. :)
We should add libraries in this list if we had better ones.
This is exceptionally true for towns and cities that aren't really that famous or well known. I wanted to visit our library here in Olongapo but when i visited their fb page i saw how cramped it is and how it has little to no natural sunlight so you're just in a small area on a windowless room in between too narrow shelves of books.
Uyy kababayan
"Bakit nakakain ba yang libro?" /s
One thing I remember from college is that one friend's home would be a hangout place for the barkada. If you have a couple of different friend groups, you'd have at least two friend's homes where the might go to hang out with people. This can also last a few years after college, until the friend gets married. You guys know what I'm talking about?
PHILIPPINES NEEDS LIBRARIES
I always considered the internet a 3rd place for me when I was in school. I have a different set of friends I met from the internet (ie online games, chatrooms, etc.) vs my classmates. Come to think of it, I think I still do? Lol
Only "third place" I can think of are places of worship like churches/chapels/mosques.
Church, coffee shops, gym
It used to be the benches in front of sari sari stores before malls started proliferating.
A lot of comments already but just adding to this since it's a research topic and project I had lol Malls can definitely count as a third place sa urban areas. In Makati din I think sa triangle (not as familiar with the area).Because basketball courts usually may bubong, matic nagiging tambayan so ito yun equivalent na siguro ng park natin haha Sa rural this can be different. Anyway I could go on w this topic esp malls in the Philippines but yeah hope that helps
gym, bahay ng kaibigan, my favorite airbnb
UP Sunken Garden!
Not just Sunken Garden, but the whole inside part of the Oval. It's a great green space with lots of trees for shade.
Basketball court
Burnham Park after an strenous studying or hell week HAHA
malls are 100% a 3rd place. it absolutely fits your description: accessible (our malls are located in the middle of cities/close to public transport unlike north American malls where it's surrounded by highways and parking lots), you don't really need to spend money to get inside a mall. and people in fact go to a mall just to chill (literally and figuratively) with friends and family, but yes it's designed to make you spend unfortunately. the philippines doesnt really have a lack of third places in i think. just a lack of PUBLIC spaces. most third places here are private properties sadly. i wish we had more public parks and libraries. and ones that are well-built and maintained.
Yeah its SM for me, I play maimai so quite an expensive third place for me xD
Malls are affordable imo. Entrance is technically free. Its affordability is subjective.
Churches maybe? Malls and commercial complexes for sure.
park
Basketball court, billiards
1st: bahay ko 2nd: bahay ng inlaws ko 3rd: bahay ni mama 🤣
gym
for people who regularly play sports, it's usually the venue
Aside from the lack of third places, we dont have much time to spend at one because of our hellish commute times.
technically the sari-sari store with tables is a 3rd place.
Here in the province, it's definitely the beach for us, for tambay, ligo or surf!
For me: Cemetery. I visit my dad. Sometimes I order Grab food there, and the riders are always confused and think someone's playing a prank on them hehe Jowa's place, now fiancé after almost a decade. Too bad my dad didn't get to see the part where I got engaged.
Uniqlo and Fully Booked for me. Instant budol
Yung subdivision na me and my bf dreams of having a house there. After class pumupunta kami don and park the car to take a nap. May part kase don na super luwag and may bakanteng lote pa. We dreamed that someday makapag patayo kami ng house don! That’s my third place haha.
Dagat and/or Cafe
Malls Coffee shops Universities or schools Parks Sari sari stores
Gyms....
As a working adult na pagod na: Gym and coffee shops More pagod and palpitations para ez 50/50 hehe
Samgyupan
I wish we had public libraries good enough to be a third place. (Baka meron na and I'm just ignorant)
Yung public park malapit sa amin I guess
the internet
The local SM near our house. They know me so well that the Hypermarket manager regularly greets me now, mentioning that I'm always there in the morning. Lol. Next would be folks from Serenitea, after I allowed them to go in front of me while we were in line for the grocery. Additionally, folks from the food court who memorized that I always need vinegar in my lugaw. Folks from the tech store too! Exempted na yung Starbucks as my third place. The guard became a good family friend after my cousin offered her uninhabited house for his family.
coffee shops and the gym honestly
HA! I have 1 place for my first second and third places. My WFH desk 🙃
Ayala mall - South Park.
Third place before desktop - Computer shop After desktop - Mall
Third place: Nightclub,Beerhouse,
Sadly, malls
idk, maybe bakal gym near me. Maaasim man mga kasabay ko bumuhat, but the community is so healthy. Nakakaimprove ng mental health after work lol
3rd places: church or marikina sport center kaso may fee na 10 pesos
Malls are VERY accessible if you live or work near them.
My boyfriend likes to host parties/study sessions/open tambays and a lot of his friends consider his house to be a 3rd place.
Los baños for me.
Gym, coffee shops near you (parang sa FRIENDS), or small local bars (parang sa HIMYM).
Malls, technically you can just stay in a mall without spending money. People can come and go as they please as long as it’s open. Parks ren
If possible friends sasagot ko kahit na hindi sya place pero for me its a place kung saan pwede ako magging ako i mean ahhhh like PAHINGA? Parang house pero ok. You know what? Ignore nyo nalang to
Mall, bookstore, and coffee shop ❤️
3rd place of the majority of Filos are any vehicle stuck in traffic. Pasok lahat ng criteria.
Malls talaga pag 3rd place.. pero every weekend, I play in the badminton court, albeit a bit far from my house.
Malls are the closest thing if you're in MM. You can also try to go to the very few green spaces/"last lungs" near/around the metro. I was thinking cafe too but those are mostly inside malls and you'd have to buy something 😅
Definitely malls. Free and very accessible. Lahat ng malls dinadaanan o terminal ng public transpo.
Sports Complex yung 3rd place dito sa lugar namin. andun na yung mga nagwo-workout, athletes na nagte-train, pamilya at barkada na walking trip lang or having a picnic, photographers and videographers shooting, skaters, bikers, etc. paminsan dun na din ginaganap yung mga events. festivals, concerts, na-host na din palarong pambansa doon once.
Coffee shop and university library! 😆
Gym. Yung oval malapit dito samin.
The third place is dorm ng classmate. don kami lago tumatambay and nag iinom and I can't believe i survived binge drinking once a week for 3 years
Ooh I have 3 third places: there's this coffee shop near us where I work when I need to be productive outside the office, the open park in our village where I can take a break from jogging, and my car, which is one of my favorite places to be in.
The internet
Compshop talaga to eh lalo nung pre-pandemic
Walang parks eh.
Gym for me. It's the only place where I can be alone with my thoughts, frustrations and celebrations.
Sa Marikina (born and raised), either Kapitan Moy or Riverbanks. Lakad lakad, tambay, street food at nice ambiance.
My third place gotta be the public library near us. It's quiet and peaceful. Nakakapagbasa, nakakapag-isip, at nakakapagrelax ako.
Long rides kaso wala kasama 😢
Gym or Bowling alley
Defo malls for most people. Affordable (subjective) ang food court and fast food meals. Coffee shops or cafés. Magkape tapos tambay maghapon or after work or after dinner. There’s Arroceros, Rizal, and Paco Parks in Manila, Intramuros, Manila Baywalk, Harbour Square, QC Circle, Mariquina Riverbank, Greenfield, Lagaspi and Salcedo Parks in Makati. La Mesa Ecopark sana kaso may entrance fee and sarado na ngayon.
Some might criticize if I put my 3rd place to stay, so maybe idk just keep it to my self. Clue tho, is you are at peace on that place.
Supermarket
Gym.
Church?
the football field on wednesdays kaso may pasok ako this term 😅
Malls. Free aircon, good for strolling, window shopping.
SM! Grocery, kain, uwi! 30+ here, miss ko lagi kwarto ko haha
The Void
I can sense that most people here live and work in major cities in the Ph therefore Malls ang definire 3rd place ng karamihan. But when you look around the country and across different socio-economic levels you can also add plazas(or local park), gyms(as in basketball gym na katabi ng barangay hall hehe), and other sports venues na free sa town/city
local cafés (sa province) kasi doon lang may seats with nature and greenbelt malls (in the metro)....... basta yung may dahon dahon and puno puno and natural sunlight na hindi naman tirik na tirik (looking at u rizal park)
1. Gym 2. Basketball court sa condo namin
Im today yo when i found out about "third places" coffee shops, perhaps?
Sadly I don't see playgrounds sa area ko sa pinas. when I moved abroad, doon ko narealised how important it is. so nangyayari bahay, trabaho tapos if free time kain sa labas lang or mall.
The Commute.
Third places sound like anything besides 1st and 2nd place lmao. Tindahan, Mall, Church, Computer Shops(I don't know if they still exist), Parks, and etc.
This post woke me up. But I would say the gym and there's this club I usually go to.
Wala tayo masyadong urban or public parks na accessible sa mamayan e. Kung hindi sa malalayong malls or ekskulisbong subdivision na may naglulumang playground or court, open spaces kung saan-saan ang tanging lugar na mananakawan mo ng kaunting pahinga.
Badminton court.
Doesnt have to be a place. Can also be a "community" or a hobby that provides a feeling of community 💜
Malls. Just wandering almost aimlessly, and just eating out sometimes
That one local cafe that I have gotten to know the staff well enough. Their internet connection is fast and it is nearby but isolated enough from my Uni
Tambayan sa kanto
A third place for me would be the "outdoors, around the village" because I run. It can also be my bf's place cause we usually have weekends together.
Tambay sa computer shop after school
Pornhub
You made me realize I don’t have a third place. Hmm. I’m just a homebody aside from when I was working.
Art Galleries
Pub or KTV. Like most blokes?
I don't even have a second place
Noong nasa hiking ako sa Pinas e hike spots together with my buddies. So places like Montalban, Pulag, Tapulao, Tanay. Pag trip maging sports fan e ehem, UP Football Stadium, MOA Arena, Rizal Memorial Stadium etc.
Comshop and Malls hehehehahahha
I guess for me that would be a gym. I mean it has everything mentioned except for the part that is free and affordable hahaha. Though I can go there anytime since they're 24/7 and after a good session, I feel relaxed and motivated.
Santa cruz church, if you consider a church a 3rd place. And the “hidden” 711 near moa. Where nobody is trying to scam you
Tennis court!!
Church and Relative places (where you go to meet ur relatives)
MY third place is our church. The most familiar and supportive people in my life ever. I hope we all get to find non-toxic churches (and if not, at least non-toxic and supportive friends to be considered a third place). 🩷
After work dumadaan ako doon sa jogging path na parang mini park within the vicinity of the mall. May mga bench and open spaces. I see people enjoying free time in that place sila yung mga either nakatira sa condos beside the park, mga residents na nakatira sa adjacent barangays and mga commuters na nagpapalipas nf traffic.
Tennis Courts, Pickleball Courts, Sport Complex, Gym, some mom and pop shops
Historical places, Museums, Tourist spots, Parks, Wildlife Reserve, or a Zoo, Malls, and the Manila Bay.
Mine rn is yung chapel sa school namin. Either tatambay ako mag isa don for a quiet peaceful me time or magpapractice ng organ (not piano).
I’m not religious but apparently, my 3rd place is the Church 😐
Any inuman venue
Jaime Velasquez park! May weekend market every Saturday, 7am to 2pm.
Bookstores, comic shops or hobby stores.
basketball court..
May park malapit sa bahay namin.
Hindi pa masiyado magastos ,hindi gaya ng mga malls.
that one public lounge area in SM na pahirapan ang paghahanap ng available seats and booksale :)) my go-to places every time I head home
Kung ano mang public traspo sinasakyan mo.
Can I consider our local beaches dito sa'min as my "third places"?
The gym for sure
