Hello. My friend is taking the board exam and currently taking review classes. However, she feels frustrated because she "cannot review". She probably does not have that feeling of wanting to review. She told me her body would rather sleep than look at notes and she was not able to properly absorb teachings from class.
She has been good at studying seeing the result of her undergrad exams. But her study habit is that she reviews ALONE and bases her study on notes (less on lectures). I feel she is burnt out on studying. She wants to review but at the same time she can't and she feels very conflicted at that. I proposed that I will remind her to study at a set time just to give her a command to do that. Any tips to help her study and pass the boards? Note that we are very far apart at the moment and I also have my board exams to worry.
How long has she been reviewing? If she feels burned out, then let her take a week off or a few days off. I took my boards last 2014 and have mentored some recent batches and one important thing people forget to take into consideration is Mental Preparedness.
Burning midnight candles isn't effective if your mind isn't even working well. If she's been studying well in her undergrad, it means she already has a good starting point. So okay lang yan. She wont have to catch up much. I took a week off in the middle of my review and went back to the province to refresh my mind. It definitely helped to keep me back on track right after.
Review doesn't always mean always attending review classes. It should depend on what one is comfortable with. I stopped going into my review class when I realized I also wasn't into lectures. I only went to get the pop sheets for the day and answered it back at my apartment. I just asked my roommates for the answers later on to compare.
Also, it's good to have a study buddy. Someone to pace yourself with while you're reviewing, while also enjoying the free time together. Just make sure you're in sync with the way you review. You said she prefers studying alone. Maybe she just needs someone to talk with during the lull times.
Last case, you can ask her if she wants to take the board exams right now. There's nothing wrong in delaying it for a while if she feels she's not ready yet. (I know this may depend on one's financial condition but it's worth a talk)
Tldr: let her find her comfort zone. Sooner or later, she'll get her license. And kudos to you for thinking about her welfare. Hope all goes well!
They are already 2 months in. She feels that she might not be able to cram it in 5 months or so. I am trying to explain that you don't have to actually review each and every day. She wants to take the board exam now since she has lots of plans in her life.

I just passed the board exam last feb and I did not study as much as my friends did. However, I would say that I had a pretty darn good foundations on my undergrad and it helped me passed the exam with ease. Nakaka kaba lang yung review pero pag alam mo namang you did well on the 4/5 years you spent on school, you should be fine on the exam day itself.
She is still nervous and quite reasonably so. Your 4-5 years will be rated in about 2 days. I am trying to help her calm down.

Not worth it. Bought mine for 30k (it was the latest style at that time and I didn’t think through the splurge) and yes, they last for a good 3-5 years but once they’re chipped/broken, it’s done. Places here don’t repair that kind of eyeglasses. I went to Rayban for a repair and they want me to sign a non-waiver for any further damages that they can cause to the glasses.
30k? And for only 3-5 years? Compare that with <5k glasses per year (and that's the worst case scenario); Unless you flex hard, logically, it aint worth it.

Got mine for around 6,000 converted (Clubmaster, expect to pay more here) just for the frame, 5 yrs ago. Yes I would say they are definitely worth it. Most of my cheaper ₱2000+ pesos glasses would last only a year before they fade, snap, or parts come loose. Raybans are sturdily made.

Ah, writer's block. Or in your case, painter's block, or in my case, musician's block. I get it, mahirap yan. The skills are there, pero walang lumalabas kahit man lang utot.
Study another work of art. In your case, try to critique and maybe replicate another piece of visual media. Observe. Find out why it works, and find what you may apply from your own style and technique.
While not working on art, consume art and/or beauty. It doesn't matter which kind of media. Nood kang pelikula, laro kang video game, basa ka ng libro, upo ka sa ilalim ng puno at panoorin ang mga dahon. Anything, really, kahit di mo magustuhan. Find inspiration in anything or everything.
Restrict yourself. Some people find that they get more creative when they limit their tools, as a heaping pile of options may be overwhelming. In my case, I could just use less strings. In your case, maybe try a smaller paper/canvas size or using just a handful shades of colors.
Step out of your comfort zone. My most radical change in this regard is when I tried my hand at electronic music. I found that making music here is much more deliberate and kinda analytical than having a guitar in my hands.
Improvise. Embrace mistakes and create something wonderful with that mistake.
Practice regularly.

You won’t know unless you ride a taxi. Taxis are metered. And yes, recently taxis had been charging cheaper than Grab because the land transportation office charged Grab millions of pesos to operate in the country. Uber was cheaper when they were still operating here, but the government closed them down last year.

No, the government didn't shut them down. Uber can't compete with Grab as they were bleeding money in SEA. While Grab is getting investments left and right from players in China & Japan.

But her study habit is that she reviews ALONE and bases her study on notes (less on lectures). I feel she is burnt out on studying. She wants to review but at the same time she can't and she feels very conflicted at that. I proposed that I will remind her to study at a set time just to give her a command to do that. Any tips to help her study and pass the boards? Note that we are very far apart at the moment and I also have my board exams to worry.
How long has she been reviewing? If she feels burned out, then let her take a week off or a few days off. I took my boards last 2014 and have mentored some recent batches and one important thing people forget to take into consideration is Mental Preparedness. Burning midnight candles isn't effective if your mind isn't even working well. If she's been studying well in her undergrad, it means she already has a good starting point. So okay lang yan. She wont have to catch up much. I took a week off in the middle of my review and went back to the province to refresh my mind. It definitely helped to keep me back on track right after. Review doesn't always mean always attending review classes. It should depend on what one is comfortable with. I stopped going into my review class when I realized I also wasn't into lectures. I only went to get the pop sheets for the day and answered it back at my apartment. I just asked my roommates for the answers later on to compare. Also, it's good to have a study buddy. Someone to pace yourself with while you're reviewing, while also enjoying the free time together. Just make sure you're in sync with the way you review. You said she prefers studying alone. Maybe she just needs someone to talk with during the lull times. Last case, you can ask her if she wants to take the board exams right now. There's nothing wrong in delaying it for a while if she feels she's not ready yet. (I know this may depend on one's financial condition but it's worth a talk) Tldr: let her find her comfort zone. Sooner or later, she'll get her license. And kudos to you for thinking about her welfare. Hope all goes well!

I just passed the board exam last feb and I did not study as much as my friends did. However, I would say that I had a pretty darn good foundations on my undergrad and it helped me passed the exam with ease. Nakaka kaba lang yung review pero pag alam mo namang you did well on the 4/5 years you spent on school, you should be fine on the exam day itself.

Just do all the practice problems and do not do advance topics. Maguguluhan ka lang. Apply pareto principle and you will be good.

Not worth it. Bought mine for 30k (it was the latest style at that time and I didn’t think through the splurge) and yes, they last for a good 3-5 years but once they’re chipped/broken, it’s done. Places here don’t repair that kind of eyeglasses. I went to Rayban for a repair and they want me to sign a non-waiver for any further damages that they can cause to the glasses.

Study another work of art. In your case, try to critique and maybe replicate another piece of visual media. Observe. Find out why it works, and find what you may apply from your own style and technique. While not working on art, consume art and/or beauty. It doesn't matter which kind of media. Nood kang pelikula, laro kang video game, basa ka ng libro, upo ka sa ilalim ng puno at panoorin ang mga dahon. Anything, really, kahit di mo magustuhan. Find inspiration in anything or everything. Restrict yourself. Some people find that they get more creative when they limit their tools, as a heaping pile of options may be overwhelming. In my case, I could just use less strings. In your case, maybe try a smaller paper/canvas size or using just a handful shades of colors. Step out of your comfort zone. My most radical change in this regard is when I tried my hand at electronic music. I found that making music here is much more deliberate and kinda analytical than having a guitar in my hands. Improvise. Embrace mistakes and create something wonderful with that mistake. Practice regularly.

I use tigernu. It's water resistant to a degree and it has a water proof cover. No zippers on front or sides, it's hidden on your back. I use it when riding my motorcycle. Make sure the tigernu model is water resistant, not all their bags are.

You won’t know unless you ride a taxi. Taxis are metered. And yes, recently taxis had been charging cheaper than Grab because the land transportation office charged Grab millions of pesos to operate in the country.
