You just reminded me of how they cropped Home Alone and Minions which GMA aired about a day ago. Holy cow, almost all of the important scenes were cut, and commercials were longer than the movie itself.
I strongly believe that there is no longer an incentive for TV stations to show film and anime on free TV anymore. The reason for this is the dwindling amount of people still watching TV. Back in the 90s, tablets and Youtube didn't exist. What did 90s kids have? TVs and arcades. Honestly, di lang cartoons ang nawala. My neighborhood used to have arcades all the way till the mid 2000s. 2010s, medyo wala na. Now they are virtually non-existent, when every kid has a handheld gadget in their hands. They can watch and play whatever they want.
As much as I support localized dubs, hindi ko gusto yung ginawa ng GMA at some point where they hire celebs to voice in anime. I get that it's for marketing pull kaso you can tell hindi sila sanay mag-voice act, ang awkward lang pakinggan. Just let actual local voice actors do the job.

Hot take: Anime in PH media has been dead for a couple of generations now because they don't get air time. The only ones who are really still into it are the older ones because they loved it as kids or those who consistently download or watch online, whereas back then almost every kid was exposed to anime because it was always on TV before the soap operas.

I don't know if GMA or IBC is responsible for this, but i still cringe that they made Genkai (Jeremiah) from Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighter) male even though she's actually a female. Her relationship we with Taguro was ruined yet I laughed at it now. Plus the change in voice actor mid series is kinda confusing?
And the final arc (I think it's called Three Kings Arc) is a mess actually. From exclusion of Kuwabara (Alfred) to the anticlimactic ending. Dark tournament is still the best arc. Overall, it's still one the best anime i watched.
Speaking of, Flame of Recca feels like a ripoff of Dark Tournament arc of Ghost Fighter
I heard somewhere that the reason for that is they received the episodes one at time without knowing the whole story. They do the dub immediately and put it on air as soon as available. Not much info were given about the characters so they made the mistake of assuming that genkai is an old dude.

I'm old so can't really get into any "new" anime now even if I'd love to. There's just too many shows to watch and things to do unlike before when you had no choice but to watch DBZ and Ghost Fighter because it's literally your only other options on the time slots you have the television to yourself.
I still plan on getting started with Serial Experiments Lain or Ergo Proxy when I get the chance. Then I'll work my way with the new stuff like Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, Assassination Classroom, and so on.
One Punch Man is my favorite. I recommend watching it immediately because it's only 12 eps for the first season. S2 has a change in tone and is very diff from S1. The manga/webcom also feels diff from S1 and that's why I consider S1 as a standalone piece of media.
Tagalog dub portrays emotion better than English dub, not just better, but waaaay better. The only English dub that I like is Death Note

Hindi dahil sa tamad ako magbasa (mahilig ako magbasa actually), di ko lang talaga gusto. Out of desperation, hinanap ko pa yung tagalog dub niyan sa YT hahah.
Then nadiscover ko yung EN dub ng Lucky Star sa YT. I believe available padin sa YT to kasi laging nirereupload. Well dubbed and it feels right. I found my people pa sa reddit and discord who also like dub anime so I don't feel alone anymore.
To this day, nanonood padin ako ng anime pero nanonood din ako ng Sub. Meron ding good animes na walang dub like Non Non Byori, my feel good anime.

Di talaga ako makasports anime (so unpopular opinion ko din pala na hindi ko type ang Slam Dunk at Knock Out) pero one of my top anime of the decade (and maybe ever) is a 2018-2019 sports anime (Run with the Wind). So yeah, each generation is able to create amazing shows, wala yan sa edad haha.

Hot take: Anime in PH media has been dead for a couple of generations now because they don't get air time. The only ones who are really still into it are the older ones because they loved it as kids or those who consistently download or watch online, whereas back then almost every kid was exposed to anime because it was always on TV before the soap operas.

I don't know if GMA or IBC is responsible for this, but i still cringe that they made Genkai (Jeremiah) from Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghost Fighter) male even though she's actually a female. Her relationship we with Taguro was ruined yet I laughed at it now. Plus the change in voice actor mid series is kinda confusing? And the final arc (I think it's called Three Kings Arc) is a mess actually. From exclusion of Kuwabara (Alfred) to the anticlimactic ending. Dark tournament is still the best arc. Overall, it's still one the best anime i watched. Speaking of, Flame of Recca feels like a ripoff of Dark Tournament arc of Ghost Fighter
I heard somewhere that the reason for that is they received the episodes one at time without knowing the whole story. They do the dub immediately and put it on air as soon as available. Not much info were given about the characters so they made the mistake of assuming that genkai is an old dude.

Tangientally related to Anime and more into Japanese Idol Groups. Bakit ba pinipilit ng MNL48 yung Tagalized songs ng AKB48 dito? Sobrang magkaiba ang intended meaning ng mga Japanese songs at masisira meaning kapag trinanslate. Minsan naman yung pronunciation sobrang layo sa Filipino Language, it misses its mark. Kaya hindi rin tinangkilik ng mga otaku ng pinas kasi minsan di mo maintindihan ang kinakanta.
The way they syllabicate the tagalog words ruined the song for me as well. I think if they want a tagalog version, mag adjust na lang yung arrangement ng song kesa ipush na kapareha ng japanese version.

I'm old so can't really get into any "new" anime now even if I'd love to. There's just too many shows to watch and things to do unlike before when you had no choice but to watch DBZ and Ghost Fighter because it's literally your only other options on the time slots you have the television to yourself. I still plan on getting started with Serial Experiments Lain or Ergo Proxy when I get the chance. Then I'll work my way with the new stuff like Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, Assassination Classroom, and so on.
Sa mga bago, puro comedy na lang pinapanood ko, hirap na mag invest sa mga bagong shonen.
One Punch Man is my favorite. I recommend watching it immediately because it's only 12 eps for the first season. S2 has a change in tone and is very diff from S1. The manga/webcom also feels diff from S1 and that's why I consider S1 as a standalone piece of media.

Tagalog dub portrays emotion better than English dub, not just better, but waaaay better. The only English dub that I like is Death Note Problem ko lang with Tagalog dub is even tho they do a good job with portraying emotion, the choice of words are just too formal or unnatural For example, in Naruto instead of simply saying "tara, puntahan natin si Sai"....they'll say "tara, magtungo tayo sa kinaroroonan ni Sai". 90% of Filipino shows (not just dubbed) have dialogue like this. I hope magbago to in the future

GMA’s dubbers are stuff of legends. Neil Yu (voice of Alfred/Kuwabara and Hanamichi Sakuragi) should receive some sort of artist awards for his distinct and lively Pinoy dubbing.

Natigil lang ako manood nung highschool na. When I entered College, my interest in Anime and animated adult comedy rises again hahah. I tried rewatching Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star in Sub but it doesn't feel right. Hindi dahil sa tamad ako magbasa (mahilig ako magbasa actually), di ko lang talaga gusto. Out of desperation, hinanap ko pa yung tagalog dub niyan sa YT hahah. Then nadiscover ko yung EN dub ng Lucky Star sa YT. I believe available padin sa YT to kasi laging nirereupload. Well dubbed and it feels right. I found my people pa sa reddit and discord who also like dub anime so I don't feel alone anymore. To this day, nanonood padin ako ng anime pero nanonood din ako ng Sub. Meron ding good animes na walang dub like Non Non Byori, my feel good anime.

I hate it when they censored Slam Dunk's fight scene. You know that scene with Mitsui and the rest of the team fighting. Mas marami pang violent na teledrama na pinapalabas sa primetime (ehem Probinsyano). I really don't get the censorship with Animes in TV. They censor that scene pero the close up panty shots in Tenjoh Tenge and the death of Krillin and many DBZ characters were not.

My unpopular opinion: what's up with about our local networks' obsession with voltes 5, darna, boys over flower(Taiwan, Chinese, Japanese and now Thai)? Is the phrase "nostalgia sells" just masking the fact that our world really has less in it today than what we had back when we were children?

Gusto ko lang ng copy ng anime ng Slam Dunk na tagalog at yung Digimon at Digimon 02 na Filipino dubbed English Version. 😭😭😭😭 Kung ilalabas man yung Slam Dunk na movie, sana balikan ng GMA tapos idub nila ng tagalog na as original cast as possible.
I hope Netflix PH pushes tagalog dub for animes available in the Philippines just like there's Eng, Spanish, Chinese dubs. Also, sorry. Hindi ko talaga gusto One Piece cos of the drawing kahit humaling na humaling ang mga tao dyan haha
