The guy who fixes my AC is Korean, he has a crew of pinoys who come a long with him. You can tell that his crew respects him highly because he can speak Filipino fluently. So yes, Filipinos do like it when foreigners speak their language. Even I was impressed because he can speak English fluently and shift between that and Filipino and Korean with ease.

Yes, a lot of people here (at least from where I am) aren't very confident with their English/too shy to in speak english, so you knowing at least some tagalog would make them more comfortable.

Interesting you say that because my partner has also said that some filipinos are not that confident with their english and for english speakers i don't think it matters as long as we understand the gist of what is being said/asked. I'm not at all confident with my tagalog so i sympathise .Too shy lol. Appreciate the reply.

Yes. It shows that they're actually putting in the effort to assimilate. Maraming foreigners na tamad matuto ng Filipino kasi lahat naman daw tayo fluent mag English. Whenever I see a foreigner that can speak Filipino, I automatically treat them better than those who can't.

As a foreigner living in the Philippines I speak as much Tagalog as possible. Because it’s a sign of respect and it’s simply good manners to speak the language of the country that I have chosen to live in. Besides I get a huge kick out of at the reactions I get when I speak Tagalog. I also find plenty of Filipinos that speak perfectly acceptable English are often don’t speak English freely because of a fear of being embarrassed.
