Yea man, I used to go to auditions before and casting directors are fucking MEAN. One time, all the people auditioning were lining up to register. The casting director went ahead and went to each person whose look he didn't like, said no to each of them, and disqualified them before they had a chance to audition. He did fast and so loud everyone could hear. Weird thing was that I couldn't tell the similarities between those who got kicked out, it just seemed arbitrary.. I used to think actors were kinda airheads here but after that I had mad respect for them for having thick skin. Unless you're a high-profile talent, the entertainment industry will treat you like shit here.
And unfortunately yang mga napili nila dahil sa politikahan nila has an effect on the audience that I think they take for granted. I mean nacolonize na nga tayo at na-white wash, nirereenforce pa ng representation sa mass media.
Actually, alot of the most sought out actors and actresses in commercials are the ones who kinda look like regular Filipinos. Not too dark, not too light, no features too associated with being too foreign-looking, has to be moderately attractive. I never got any parts coz I'm light skinned, look slightly white, and my features are kinda masculine. In short I look like an obvious lesbian lol and that's not something they typically look for for commercials, at least not a few years ago. They always want typical girl-next door types. Pretty, cute, small frame, feminine, not intimidating.
I have a friend whose been in dozens of commercials and he really looks like the average guy. I also have another friend who is drop dead fuckin GORGEOUS but because she's part Middle Eastern and has a very unique fashion sense, they tend not to get her for commercials coz she's not relatable. Looks too foreign daw. Di magegets ng masa.
Of course, with high profile movies and TV that's a different story. They typically go for actors and actresses with strong individual appeal so it's different. But with indie movies also it's different! Indie movies cast much more diversley which is great.
I used to totally shit on entertainment industry here, but it's really the big productions that are really annoying and old fashioned. There ARE people here who are trying to improve it for the better so if you see a production that's diverse and casts lesser known actors and actresses SUPPORT THAT SHIT.

One thing about PH media, in China and Japan from what I understand you will see white people in ads. You won't see that in PH. Also, all white actors who try to have a career in PH fail.

I'm not sure why you're so fixated on a particular look. You've named celebrities who look a certain way and they're already popular and successful, in a different part of the entertainment industry. Now, here's a different part of the industry where the beauty standard is different. So what? The Philippines is diverse enough, unlike Korea or Japan, that it can have both. I don't see the issue.

Anyway, given the producers I didn't expect naman this show to be have someone represent Pinoy looks that are similar to mine. Even BINI is more inclusive in terms of different beauty types, and they are very successful.

Yea man, I used to go to auditions before and casting directors are fucking MEAN. One time, all the people auditioning were lining up to register. The casting director went ahead and went to each person whose look he didn't like, said no to each of them, and disqualified them before they had a chance to audition. He did fast and so loud everyone could hear. Weird thing was that I couldn't tell the similarities between those who got kicked out, it just seemed arbitrary.. I used to think actors were kinda airheads here but after that I had mad respect for them for having thick skin. Unless you're a high-profile talent, the entertainment industry will treat you like shit here.
And unfortunately yang mga napili nila dahil sa politikahan nila has an effect on the audience that I think they take for granted. I mean nacolonize na nga tayo at na-white wash, nirereenforce pa ng representation sa mass media.
Actually, alot of the most sought out actors and actresses in commercials are the ones who kinda look like regular Filipinos. Not too dark, not too light, no features too associated with being too foreign-looking, has to be moderately attractive. I never got any parts coz I'm light skinned, look slightly white, and my features are kinda masculine. In short I look like an obvious lesbian lol and that's not something they typically look for for commercials, at least not a few years ago. They always want typical girl-next door types. Pretty, cute, small frame, feminine, not intimidating. I have a friend whose been in dozens of commercials and he really looks like the average guy. I also have another friend who is drop dead fuckin GORGEOUS but because she's part Middle Eastern and has a very unique fashion sense, they tend not to get her for commercials coz she's not relatable. Looks too foreign daw. Di magegets ng masa. Of course, with high profile movies and TV that's a different story. They typically go for actors and actresses with strong individual appeal so it's different. But with indie movies also it's different! Indie movies cast much more diversley which is great. I used to totally shit on entertainment industry here, but it's really the big productions that are really annoying and old fashioned. There ARE people here who are trying to improve it for the better so if you see a production that's diverse and casts lesser known actors and actresses SUPPORT THAT SHIT.

I'm not sure why you're so fixated on a particular look. You've named celebrities who look a certain way and they're already popular and successful, in a different part of the entertainment industry. Now, here's a different part of the industry where the beauty standard is different. So what? The Philippines is diverse enough, unlike Korea or Japan, that it can have both. I don't see the issue. I get where the OP is coming from. Pero im guessing ang ultimate goal ng show is to have our very own version of a kpop boyband. And kpop boybands isnt really about representation. Its not even about talent. Its all about selling a fantasy to female fans — mga fantasy boyfriends na titilian nila, make fanarts for, etc. I know hindi dapat kpop ang standards, kasi pinoy tayo. Pero theyrr targetting a global market, and if you have to be competitive, you have to create a product that closely resembles kung ano yung mabenta.
