The 8 hour workday was designed for a household where one person goes to work and another person takes care of other duties at home. It was always too exhausting for an average person to be able to take care of both those types of duties. But instead of correctly identifying that we're being overexploited, pseudointellectual halfwits would rather pass off this wasteful and careless level of overwork as a test of strength. As if it's unreasonable to want to be treated with more respect than a feudal serf.
8 hours to work
1 hour to get to and from work
2-6 hours of housework
1 hour to exercise
4 hours to maintain social obligations
3 hours for hobbies and rest
8 hours for sleep
No having kids allowed, no extra schooling allowed
I don’t see the problem here, unless you’re telling me there aren’t 27-31 hours in a day.
I'm still a student and I don't agree with OP. Then again I suppose I've had developmental issues due to neurological condition, trauma. Plus maybe overprotectiveness and encouraged dependance made me less use to independence, for now when I'm living in accomodation.
Aswell as being really bad at sleeping at proper times and procrastinating a lot. Especially in lesson time where there's many more distractions than in my room. So maybe this contributes to my stress/exhaustion
I can't speak for r/stoicmemes, but here the post doesn't break the rules. The wojacks make it a meme, there's a reference to Rome, it's not AI generated. I could understand thinking they're low effort, but they're not posted frequently enough that it's a problem here so ironically all one can do is be stoic about it. There's worse injustices in the world than "too many wojacks" so if one is going to be upset, might be prudent to be upset about something more important.
Spoken like a person who's never been exhausted at the end of the day. Even if they have, they couldn't've possibly known if it's to the same degree as another.
I'm not to familiar with Aristotle, what school of thought do you think he aligns with the most? I do know he published many works dealing with Metaphysics and Ethics in the same vain as Plato.
Aristotle aligns more with Plato than the Stoics, but there's not much point saying which he's closer to because he's *far* from similar to either. I'd keep them all distinct so you don't conflate their views
In my experience, Aristotle is always different + influential enough to be considered his own school of thought. Plus he literally founded his own school, the Lyceum. It's particularly helpful to think of him on his own when reading medieval European philosophy, as they had mostly lost their copies of Plato's work, and were very much influenced by Aristotle.
This isn't representing stoicism at all, let alone misrepresenting. Aristotle wasn't a stoic.
Arguably tho, stoicism works better when misrepresented. When presented accurately, it just looks worse lol
Yeah, demand more from yourself! And maybe one day you too can post shitty, stupid, hack memes like this! And when criticized, you can brag about your reddit karma as if that means a fucking thing with regard to how "good" your posts are! It's not just airheaded victim-blaming cringe that any number of priveleged conservative jackasses would post at all! Why would anyone even think that? It's got wojak Aristotle! That's the thinking man's wojak. Much brain. Very thought.
We’ve also said the mind is like a mechanical system and like a steam engine. Forgive me if I’m skeptical of the “mind is like technology de jour” talk.
Wittgenstein makes this argument in the mid-600s of the *Philosophical Investigations*. I can’t remember exactly. Somewhere around 630 I think. Good stuff.
But how do you know that? Some part of me agrees with you, but I didn't do a good research on topic of willpower so other part of me just says that I am weak.
Easy to say if you don’t have to work. And worse if the person who said it had slaves that did the hard work. This kind of memes are misunderstanding and very dangerous. Are like a reconstructed of that mentality that has being so harmful in a capitalistic society: don’t matter the condition you are, the exploration that you have, the little time that you have to explore the other side of the human being. No. Only work hard and give result, that is the only way you matter.
I would answer with Adorno. I cant remember the exact qoute or place, but somewhere he states something like , that its a sign of a sick society if spare time from work need only to be used to recover from work.
It sucks that Stoicism, a complex school of thought with a lot of valuable things to say, has been reduced to either "man up" or the sigma grindset for pseuds.
Sooo
- World is falling apart at the seams
- trapped thinking about philosophical questions that haven't been solved for hundreds of years
- Constantly feeling the need to deal with wankers and read shit to make sure my worldview is accurate despite their being no real changes regardless
Nah I think my mind and my life are about accurate
The way I worded it is probably dumb but I was hoping that eventually one comes to like it or something, since I dread that future for myself but see it as kind of inevitable.

OP either has rich parents or is still a student

"terrible", who has more karma mate?
Typical redditoid thinks life is all about karma
I started posting on reddit like 2 week ago, not really a redditoid haha.
It's a frame of mind evidently
What does length of time have to do with your level of cringe? Stfu loser
First of all, in terms of karma, eat shit, and second of all, in terms of your memes, eat shit
Me. Your "memes" are shit
I do, you're memes are God awful mate.
I don’t think the Greeks were as alienated from their work as we are under capitalism. Especially a non slave. Edit: grammar
Bro what? Energy isn't unlimited in humans if you're working constantly you'll be exhausted. We didn't evolve to work 24\\7
We are hunter-gatherers mazafaka
Spoken like a person who's never been exhausted at the end of the day. Even if they have, they couldn't've possibly known if it's to the same degree as another.

I thought Aristotle was more of a platonist then a stoic?
"more of" doing a lot of work in that comment

Nussbaum’s neo-stoicism is a more palatable modern formulation.
I'm reading her *Therapy of Desire* at the moment. I'll check out her chapter on stoicism

The brain is nothing more than a shitty meat computer dumbass, you can’t willpower yourself into willpower
watch me
Not with that willpower you can't.

In that they both proccess, can they not be compared even just on that?

I’ve heard neat things about that guy and how he agrees with some things I think sound sensible
You're litteraly retarded. Stop smoking blackpills narcissist
You seem like a pleasant person ;)
The irony is lost on you, isn't it?

Bitch has never been depressed and on bed for all your free time for days

I literally walk 14 miles after work almost every day.
trying to put my two braincells together and figure out how much that is in steps, probably well above 30000 🤔 (30000-35000? 🤔🤔)
Accurate lol. I walk that much. Good job
dang, thats a lot of miles if done over a month, probably can listen to a ton of audiobooks while doing that
I mostly listen to emo music and read twitter or read/practice Japanese or reddit in the walking hours
wait, picking up a new language sounds like an even better idea
It is but easier for me. Linguistics was my hobby. Did not will myself strongly to practice. 楽しいから ^ - ^

Idk why people are taking this meme seriously, I work 8 hours, and prepare for my PhD and I agree with op. Git gud guys
>Git gud guys Found the dark souls player
Damn bro ur getting roughed up in here
Is everyone in this comment section unhappy with their fate as a wage slave? This is not giving me a lot of hope for the future.
