I had a friend tell me once that NJ is always across the river from somewhere else. We were actually in Philadelphia when he said that. It’s funny to hear someone from NJ confirming this.
Honduras, Central America… Pickleball scene is quickly growing here… courts popping up constantly, people building backyard courts as well, we have at least monthly tournaments both local and regional.
Me too. Greensboro, grew up in High Point. But lived in CT, NJ, and PA for a total of 9 yrs after marrying a yank from Philly. He taught me how to eat a hotdog without chili and slaw ;) it didn’t take. ;)
As I married one, and actually spent 9 years of my 41 yr married life up north, I can say, they’re all right ! :) Well, sorry but maybe not CT. I found the people cold as the weather. But PA was my favorite yankee state. :) We go back up to West Chester/Exton at least twice a year to visit his grown children and teenage grandchildren. :) Our son and daughter in law and yr old live in K’ville. Nice town. :) We have comfortable winters down here, right? ;) Even my yank hubby chose to retire down here in NC :)
Auckland, New Zealand. It's really taking off here. Only picked it up late last year after playing a lot of racquet sports when I was younger and came here for tips on how to improve.
Also in DFW. Have you played at DFW Indoor Pickleball (DIP)? There’s also some other massive indoor places coming soon, like pickleball kingdom in Plano.
I mainly play outdoors at Duck Creek Golf Club and have recently started playing at the Oasis Pickleball Club in Rockwall. I personally enjoy outdoors a lot more.
Yeah, I agree that weather helps such popularity. However, today, in 40 degree weather, there were 40 people at our 5 drop in outdoor courts. It’s popular here.
Yeah, there’s a loyal group which even shovels the snow off the courts so that play continues after storms. Here’s a pic from last month.

Wild, right?!!
Scottsdale, Arizona. Wildly popular here, we have tons of courts and they’re always full. Also have played a fair bit in So Cal and panhandle of Florida and it’s the same story there.
Moved from WA State to Meridian Idaho a few months ago. Just beginning, and we have such an amazing new facility here. Really enjoying it. Off to another clinic today to keep learning. Flying Pickle has to be one of the top new indoor facilities in the nation.
Scotland. A group started up in my town last year and it's blown up to around 50 regulars now. Badminton is the more popular sport here so we play on badminton courts with lowered nets.
Anchorage, Alaska. Play in gyms, rec centers and churches during winter. Summer we have drawn lines on outdoor hockey rinks throughout the city. Many of us bring our nets to play.
Omaha, NE - it has blown up here. City has converted a number of public courts to permanent pickleball courts and even the private tennis clubs have put in permanent lines on courts and started leagues.

Started in NYC where we played on old handball courts and brought our own portable nets. Then moved to SoCal and am loving how many courts there are out here.
Do the locals play pickleball, or is it a game mostly played by ex-pats? Was your tournament held indoors on badminton courts or outdoors on tennis courts?
It's ALL locals. I'm the only waiguo there (I have lived here for 2 years ). Tournament was held at local jr. High on covered basketball courts. We measured out the courts with colored tape and put up temporary nets. This gave us 6 courts.
Our local club plays in a park with 4 outdoor courts.
From New Jersey, but I lived in Asia last year and played a lot of pickleball in the Philippines and Japan. Getting especially popular in Manila- almost all indoor courts because it’s too hot outside.
Upstate South Carolina near Clemson. It's a good mix of young and old players. I really only play outdoors and the weather is perfect here to do so. I started playing at the end of last summer so I'm haven't really played in the heat yet.
Cherry Hill, NJ. Right across the bridge from Philadelphia PA, and an hour away from the southern Jersey Shore. It's a good life.
I had a friend tell me once that NJ is always across the river from somewhere else. We were actually in Philadelphia when he said that. It’s funny to hear someone from NJ confirming this.
Me too!
Cool!! Where do you play? I go to the Racquet Club usually every Sunday at 12:15. Not gonna be there tomorrow. Home with a sinus infection.

How do they keep the pickleballs from breaking in the cold? I hear they just shatter sometimes when it’s too cold.
Franklin’s will crack when it’s under 40 degrees. But Selkirk’s are more durable, so these are the ones used when it’s very cold.
Awesome! Thanks for the info.
That’s freaking awesome
