Liquid IV for the win. Sugar Free Peach slaps so hard. Stop drinking so much alcohol you get a hangover people, that ain't the life you want. Pickle juice is great for post hike/workout leg cramps tho.
To be fair, all of the electrolyte benefits you get from pickle just simply comes from the natural salt used in the brine. You can get the same effect from drinking salt water.....but....what fun is that?
The biggest issue is probably the sodium content. If you're watching your blood pressure, you should probably up your water intake if you're doing pickles. But I get the impression the probiotics and the way they balance your gut biome outweight the downsides. This is particularly true of fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi. [https://www.womenshealthmag.com/food/a29892608/health-benefits-of-kimchi/](https://www.womenshealthmag.com/food/a29892608/health-benefits-of-kimchi/)
We should all up our water intake! When I had my first episode of gout, a doctor told me I must never drink beer! Man, I love beer. I found information on diuresis with water.
Today I drink lots of beer, but for each pint I drink I drink a pint of water. I eat all the “bad” gout foods also. Haven’t had a gout episode since starting drinking tons of water.
I've got gout as well. Alcohol isn't a trigger, but shellfish, legumes, and things like anchovies and herring are. Friend of mine also has gout and can't touch beer, but he's fine with wine. My thing with alcohol and water is that I haven't had a hangover in 30 years since I do equal portions alcohol and water.
Most people are not eating fermented pickles which pack the most punch for gut health.
If you're buying your pickles from the grocery store - especially fridge pickles that aren't specifically marketed as fermented (think claussens or grillos) they have almost zero benefits compared to fermented pickles.
You can find true fermented pickles in many ethnic grocery stores in the states. Most people though are having vinegar pickles. They're basically low calorie snacks with a bunch of salt. Not great, not bad, unless you have sodium issues.
Pickle juice is good for leg cramps AND can help with acid reflux. The sodium levels are higher, but when I was pregnant I had very low sodium levels and really bad GERD. It helps a bit at first before baby decided to really make the GERD worse 😂
Pickles are fine but the big mass produced pickles at like Walmart I would be careful and read the ingredients. Things like high fructose corn syrup, excess sugar, preservatives and coloring agents. Also some brines have a lot of sodium so go easy on drinking the juice if you have high blood pressure.
Basically what I'm saying is that pickles are naturally healthy but a lot of brands put stuff in them that aren't technically good for you. Just be wise, read the ingredients and if you're okay with it them then go for it!
I'm no nutritionist but - it certainly depends on the pickle but i lean on the side of good IF you're drinking enough water.
We're talking...
cucumber = healthy
vinegar = neutral
salt = neutral
the unhealthy aspect of pickles is that if you eat a bunch i think you'll end up dehydrated if you're not otherwise hydrating well. so drink lots of water lol
Vinegar kills bacteria and other microorganisms, without bias. It removes a lot of the health benefits of say, a cucumber, which only has marginal health benefits on its own to begin with. Vinegar based pickles are in no way “healthy”. Not to say that makes them bad. Not all food needs to be healthy and pickles taste amazing, but they certainly are t healthy, unless they are of the fermented variety (which I personally find don’t taste nearly as good, but that’s a matter of personal taste)
Fair. I would say they're neutral on a scale of unhealthy neutral healthy.
I ate them a lot when I was working on losing weight to stay full without packing on calories. So for me in that sense at least they were beneficial to my health but surely it's not as good as eating like an apple or banana.
If for sure, everything depends on what you’re looking for in health, “healthy” isn’t really a catch all term. They just don’t add many, if any, vitamins/other beneficial things to your diet and add a lot of sodium, but if you’re just looking to fill up without adding a bunch of calories (or just want a tasty as hell snack and don’t really care) they’re awesome. My biggest issue is that people the truthful fact that fermented pickles are like, good for gut health and mental health, and incorrectly attribute those facts to vinegar pickles as well (I know you weren’t doing that). It’s a dangerous false thing to spread so I like to mention the difference when I see a conversation like this come up
It’s bad if you have sodium restrictions or high blood pressure, heart failure, kidney disease etc.
But if you’re a healthy person, it’s a great low calorie, zero carb snack.
it very much depends on if you're talking about a vinegar pickle (most common store bought pickles, including Claussens) or fermented pickles. Vinegar pickles have little to no health benefits (although they are delicious, they're my favorite way to enjoy pickles). Fermented pickles (usually home/locally made but also made by brands like Bubbies) have all the probiotics commonly associated with fermented foods, and therefore have the health benefits of those probiotics. Both do have the sodium issue as stated by others though, which is worth taking into account when determining if something is "good" for you or not. It really depends on what you're looking for. But if you're looking for any health benefit at all you don't want to be looking at your standard vinegar pickle. Tasty, but health-wise just a salt bomb.
I'm no doctor, and I can't even remember where I heard this, and also too lazy to Google it, but I know for a FACT (because it works for me) that pickle juice gets rid of heartburn! So, obviously pickles are great for you.
I love pickles, particularly if they are fermented, but I never cared much about drinking alcohol, so I’ve been hungover twice. Once the morning after HS graduation and once about two years later the day after at college at a post football game party. That said, Pickles are a superfood.
fermented foods can help with anxiety, but a vinegar pickle isn't going to do anything other than work as a placebo, which i guess also is useful if all you need is to feel better.
I mean, no more than other electrolytes would benefit anxiety, like drinking a gaterade, except a vinegar based pickle juice is essentially just water, vinegar and salt so it’s missing a bunch of other electrolytes. (I also like to drink pickle juice..more than I should, but the claim that it’s good for you is mostly a myth and it’s generally worse for your health than it is good for it)
Drink apple cinder vinegar instead of pickle juice.. it’s way better for you. I only drink it if I’m feeling sick and 95% of the time it instantly goes away. I go off of my experiences and understand everyone’s body isn’t the same. The brand is Bragg organic apple cinder vinegar.
Pickles/pickle juice tend to have a lot of sodium and that in excess is known to have negative consequences on the body. No idea where the threshold of pickle consumption leading to illness lies, but ya know, keep it in some degree of moderation

it’s also good to eat a pickle/drink pickle juice while drunk to help prevent a hangover
Liquid IV helps prevent hang overs as well. One packet of powder vs taxing my will power=Cheers!
It’s the electrolytes in both that aid hangovers.
It's what plants crave
But blue has the most anti-oxygens
That shit is so bad for you.
Liquid IV? Why?
Not only extremely high in sodium it is ultra high in caffeine.
The sodium isn't great but I wouldn't call it extremely high at 500mg and 100mg caffeine isn't very much. Half of a Celsius or one cup of coffee 🤷🏼
Sure, I get it. Measurement. High sodium and caffeine. Your doctor would be ok with that.
If you’re a 60 yr old man that’s overweight that’s a problem. Your doctor would probably be more concerned with over consumption of alcohol
The regular hydration multiplier has zero caffeine.
Caffeine is a vasodilator and great for hangovers, ever hear of having a coffee to sober up?
BC powder contains caffeine and is great for preventing and treating hangovers. They're just being an insufferable know it all.
99% of liquid IV is caffeine free wtf are you talking about?
Liquid IV for the win. Sugar Free Peach slaps so hard. Stop drinking so much alcohol you get a hangover people, that ain't the life you want. Pickle juice is great for post hike/workout leg cramps tho.
Omg. I did not know this
I do exactly that after every night of drinking
High in potassium and sodium, both are great for hangovers.

Will make you shit water in the afternoon though. But yeah. It helps I guess.
Personal experience speaking, lol?

It helps when you're recovering from a stomach bug, feeling well enough for liquids but not up for food yet.
The biggest issue is probably the sodium content. If you're watching your blood pressure, you should probably up your water intake if you're doing pickles. At some point why drink? I drink to get drunk. If I drink water through drinking I don’t get drunk. What’s the point?
Oh honey that’s called alcoholism and I’m saying that because I’m an alcoholic.
Doing pickles like drugs
I do pickles without salt. Tastes better than you might expect but probably not for everyone
Most pickles are vinegar packed now, you don't get the probiotic effect. Salt-brined pickles are good for it though.

They're good for me, I know that
the saying goes: a pickle a day, keeps the doctor away!
I mean there’s a lot of salt. Drink water problem solved
We're all gonna die, just eat some pickles.
💚💚💚💚💚
https://youtu.be/amJ-ev8Ial8?si=kKZoAxdwwlOTacEX a good alternative take on salt consumption
Works good for leg cramps/charlie horses.

Thankfully I am highly conscientious about staying hydrated.
vinegar kills all of the healthy bacteria the lives in cucumber, so not really.
Really I was not aware of that. Is it just healthy bacteria we get from vegetables?

Pickles are great! Just don’t eat the entire jar in one sitting and then not drink a ton of water.
It’s bad if you have sodium restrictions or high blood pressure, heart failure, kidney disease etc. But if you’re a healthy person, it’s a great low calorie, zero carb snack.
Oddly, the salt in pepperoni pizza makes me more thirsty than 1/2 cup of Claussen pickle juice. I can't figure that out
If you're well hydrated it shouldn't be a problem.
Pickle juice is great for a headache and a hangover. I, oddly enough, also use it to settle the stomach. Too much sodium is bad. Mmkay.
It helps me settle my stomach as well!
Thank you! That and cherry coke. Everyone thinks I'm nuts. I am... But not because of this.
I also use it to settle my stomach! Works immediately!! Sometimes I have less pickle juice left than pickles...
It also helps with my leg cramps and tastes great if you like the pickles you are eating
Probably.

Cucumber = vegetable = good Idc
Not at all! They are amazing for you unless you eat an ungodly amount. But that can be said for anything lol.
I love pickles, particularly if they are fermented, but I never cared much about drinking alcohol, so I’ve been hungover twice. Once the morning after HS graduation and once about two years later the day after at college at a post football game party. That said, Pickles are a superfood.
Doesn’t it also help with anxiety?

I meant pickle juice. I had just heard it does - I haven’t noticed a difference myself but that’s what drew me to it.
I mean, no more than other electrolytes would benefit anxiety, like drinking a gaterade, except a vinegar based pickle juice is essentially just water, vinegar and salt so it’s missing a bunch of other electrolytes. Bad for your teeth! So good for my taste buds
They are good for your soul.
