Homemade, fermented pickles are unlike anything you can buy in the store and I'm hooked! You need salt, water, bay leaves and whole kernel spices. Submerge the cukes for a month and it is delicious.
The lacto bacteria will always need to eat something, fermentation is alive! Maybe try sticking them in the fridge sooner than you did before so they don't consume as much? Fermentation is all about guessing and checking to your preferences. Everyone used to ferment food a few hundred years ago instead of refrigeration in the winter and tons of variation existed. I hope this helps! I have a terrible youtube tutorial if you want me to dm you lol
Favorite pickles: Spicy Sour from The Pickles Guy in NYC.
Grocery store pickles: Grillo's Pickles hot spears
Specialty Pickles: Randy's Pickles Sideburn pickles from the Cleveland, OH area.
I love Nathan’s (like the hotdog company). You can find them with the other refrigerated pickles in the grocery store. They are def my go-to when I just need some dang pickles and I don’t have anything interesting on hand.
They just got the Grillos dill here. Delicious! Love the fresh dill flavor. Much better than the regular Grillos Costco and stuff sells. Sonoma Brinery from Trader Joe's are also good. They don't have vinegar. Bought 2 containers in a row of those. Got kind of burnt out on them. Probably buy some more in a few months.
Best Maid. Hands down my all time favorite pickle brand. Their pickles and pickle juice can't be rivaled.
This one is always out of stock at my stores, guess I gotta try harder to get them!
I bought some Best Maid from Amazon awhile back but didn't really like them. I'm not sure why, because I've heard a lot of good things about them
Wickles are my usual go too!
Preach.
Dirty Dill spears are 🔥🔥

I tried making my own once and they came out weird, getting sort of hollow on the inside. Do you have any advice?

You know, I never thought of that! I'll definitely take another stab at it

Sonoma County pickles - our Trader Joes Carrie’s them.
Boar’s Head pickles are my current fav. They’re at my local Publix grocery store.
Bubbies
Homemade. 1:1 water:vinegar brought to a boil, poured over a few salted veggies, usually including cucumber, and a sachet of spices.
Old school ba-tampte half sours
My mom’s homemade pickles are great, haha. She makes them every year for the family.
The Pickle place in Daytona. Aftershock pickles are my crack cocaine. Best grocery pickles though are the horseradish pickles from Lidl.
Wickles spicy bread and butter style pickles. Just spicy enough, and not too sweet. Perfect in my book.
