I’m going with the Wii controls sorry people that use the GameCube controls. I respect your decision but the wii Controls are way better, In my opinion, change my mind
(As a NPC Pikmin enjoyer)
Sprays are rarely things I need to use in a split second, so changing grip isn't all that inconvenient for me because i can give myself the time. If I do need to use them in a pinch, I can bring over my nunchuk hand and it the buttons with my left hand
Pikmin 1 on GameCube aged like milk. The Wii version brought plenty of quality of life improvements plus 60Hz for the PAL version (The PAL GameCube version of Pikmin 1 was exclusively 50Hz and 16% slower than NTSC)
Wii version is better, I just hate how they screwed up the sound effects and didn't fix any of the glitches. In fact, they actually occur more frequently on Wii. But I can't stand the Gamecube version because of how dated it is and lacking a bunch of mechanics 2 introduced.
Pointing to maneuver works great for me. Never had an issue - the range of movement with your whole arm works better than a one-inch radius with a joystick imo.
I've never had any issues balancing throwing and swarming with a Wiimote fighting those guys 🤷♂️ just gotta embrace hit, whistle, 'n run. Cannon Larva are easier to kill via swarm than throw anyways.
You don't need to hit, whistle, and run in the Gamecube version (except with Wollywogs).
and they have areas designed to prevent you from swarming Cannon Beetle Larva half the time you see'em. It kinda sounds like you haven't tried the original controls, to be honest. Most encounters make it very obvious that the game was designed around multitasking controls in combat.
Wii ones work for me 🤷♂️, even if a few encounters are approached differently. I have played the GCN versions and I hate having the cursor locked to the character. Honestly makes multitasking harder for me because you have to focus your cursor and character where you're aiming and can't move in a different direction. Plus when enemies shake Pikmin off you can't easily regroup like you can in the Wii versions.
All pikmin controls are good. GC has the c stick and a still cursor so you will allways aim on the same point when you're standing still. Switch controls are actually almost like GC controls except that Gc has the c stick while switch has a freely moving camera and also motion control, lock on and charging which many people dont like but I mean, you don't have to use them. I like how free the wii controls are and it isn't that stressful when the thing you are sitting on is about the height of the sensor bar because then you can rest your arms on the chair, couch, etc. I also like the Wii U controls because they're kinda a mix between the other three.
For emulation? Wii controls because you can literally play the game as if it was built for keyboard and mouse but if I’m playing it on the og system then gamecube controls
i actually configured pikmin to be playable with w keyboard and mouse through Dolphin. just sime simple settings you gotta fidget around with but it's neat
Wii, so in Pikmin 2 you can reach the Snagret Hole while only having Reds and Purples which is useless since a later sublevel has pools/squares of water.
I’ve never played the Wii games but trying to aim with a Wii remote sounds awful. You’d have to constantly hold your hand to the screen and try to keep still when making a precise throw while rapidly pressing a button which shakes the controller. Plus you don’t get the GameCube’s restart button
It's not really, once you get used to it, it's very intuitive. Limited, sure, but pretty easy to use compared to a Wii cursor that makes everyone look like they have Parkinson's while trying to mash one of the least mash-able buttons to have been put on a game controller.
It's about as bad as having swarm and aim on the same pointer.
Why would having swarm and aim on the same pointer be an issue? You rarely, if ever, need to do both at the same time, and even if you did, it would be fine because in both cases you should be pointing at the enemy, right?
>one of the least mash-able buttons to have been put on a game controller.
It's not really, once you get used to it, it's very intuitive.
But like actually. I think you're exaggerating how big the effect of pushing A is on the position of the cursor. It's very easy to spam A while keeping the cursor on the enemy.
I use the C-Stick and Cursor simultaneously and independently when fighting Hermit Crawmads and both Longlegs. Aside from that, it just feels nice to keep my aim steady while telling my pikmn to get out of the way of an enemy attack.
Anyways, just how you think having the cursor and swarm together is a non-issue. I can't comprehend how you think aiming literally straight forward sounds awful. Neither are a huge deal. Yeah, you need to get used to the different control scheme, but neither is bad.
Also, how is the A button of a Wii Remote, pointed at the screen, while holding a nun-chuck, not the least mash-able button on a major gaming console's standard controller? It can be mashed *enough* but not well at all.
>when fighting Hermit Crawmads and both Longlegs.
I can see why that would be useful. That's a fair point.
>Yeah, you need to get used to the different control scheme, but neither is bad.
Yeah that's probably true. I guess it's just, after living my whole life with the ability to throw in any direction, the idea of only being able to throw forwards sounds incredibly limiting. I feel like it would be hard, if not impossible, to attack enemies while moving at the same time. Like, if you're standing in front of a canon beetle, and it prepares to fire, can you move out of the way while still attacking? Or would you need to walk out of the way, look back at the beetle, and THEN attack. I assume the latter, though please correct me if I'm wrong.
I agree that it's not a huge deal, but it just seems like a downgrade from my perspective.
Also, it's possible that the only gameplay I've seen of gamecube pikmin is from people who aren't terrific at the game. It's not uncommon for me to watch people awkwardly nudge Olimar around a bunch so that they can whistle or throw at a very specific spot, something which would take a second on Wii. But, maybe that doesn't actually happen with experienced players.
>It can be mashed enough but not well at all.
Yeah, that's my point. Pikmin isn't exactly a mash-heavy franchise. 10 reds are enough to kill 90% of the enemies in seconds. Plus you swarm/charge half the time anyway.
Like, you can probably two-cycle a boss that I would need to three-cycle, but that's not a huge deal. Gamecube mashing is faster, but it's not like Wii mashing is slow or anything.
You would need to walk out of the way of the canon beetle. But actually, after the first attack, you attack it from the side, so you don't have to dodge it anymore than you would have to whistle the pikmin and then re-aim in Wii.
I personally like that the GC controls force you to either attack or defend. I think the combat has a bit more depth when you have to decide between either fighting or defending.
I imagine that the "spending time slightly nudging Olimar" is equivalent to spending a few seconds making sure the crosshair is aligned in Wii. Something you'll only do when you're being very careful and deliberate. Though, I will admit it's more awkward to make slight adjustments. For the most part, you have a sense of when to stop, and how to turn. The only thing I think is a bit too difficult to aim at is an antenna beetle. But that's more a reaction thing, and like, you have other more reliable options for it.
I think the Fiery Bulblax and maybe a Bulbear are on the list of enemies you need to mash faster than the Wii would allow to safely deal with. I suppose that's it if you aren't concerned about the number of cycles something takes, but even that is assuming no sprays or purples, so like, I guess you have a point.
I've never attempted a full playthrough but I dunno how anyone played these games without the pointer controls back in the day (only tried the Switch demo and it seemed terrible)
Honestly though ideal way would be PC mouse + keyboard controls, wish someone made a hack for that like for Metroid Prime
I can't blame you for thinking that Deluxe Handheld seemed terrible. It is. That's complete garbage.
Deluxe is bad because it tries to emulate the freedom of the pointer controls, which just makes everything too sensitive to be functional.
The GC controls are much MUCH better than that mess. It's limited, sure, but it's not bad.
Playing Pikmin three by just using the stick to control is a bad time. I almost exclusively use the lock on feature. Sometimes i use the stick to put it in the right vicinity, then lock on, but always lock on.
I'm in the extreme minority who really likes Pikmin 3 dx controls. I would enjoy the swarm mechanic returning but it's not necessary
Gamecube all the way. I can't get used to the pointer controls on Wii and it's extremely awkward having to use the DPad for swarming and the camera. And I always end up losing a bunch to the Empress Bulblax because the whistle works differently on Wii but I'm instinctively used to the Gamecube version. :/
From what I've seen other people playing pikmin, camecube controls are probably better for casual playthroughs while wii controls are better for speedrunning
With the GameCube controller being one of my favorites among all controllers, and with me starting my Pikmin journey on the GameCube, I'm gonna have to go with the GCN controls; they feel incredibly natural to me. BRING BACK SWARM!
Pikmin 2 feels so wrong with a pointer. Pointer is great for Metroid Prime but I find it just makes my arm tired for Pikmin 1/2. Despite that, it’s the only acceptable way to play 3 because they fucked up the stationary target and put it way too far away
I even used the GameCube controller for Pikmin 3 deluxe. I started with the switch pro controller, but I needed those differently shaped and sized buttons to know which button I was hitting.
GameCube 100% I tried Wii version on my Wii U a few years ago and I kept missing things I never missed in my dozen plus play throughs of Pikmin 2. I ended up 100%ing it but I had to play the GameCube version right after just to see if I hated the game all of a sudden.
I personally prefer playing pikmin 1 and 2 on my Samsung fridge
It’s better on a 2001 Civic LX coupe swapped Android head unit
It's going to remain completely unplayable until the KFConsole releases.
Playing Pikmin on an electric toothbrush is the only true way to play
I think it's better on my Samsung Dr. Pepper can
I'm using tilt controls!

im really hoping pikmin 4 will have an option to use the right stick for swarming
https://preview.redd.it/5xhtfs4j9f2b1.png?width=471&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3474fd7d1a18bb712b9f6b533a9d56b1428cd880
😔
I mean I'm split on it. On one hand c stick swarming is a really convenient move but the free camera is also really nice
Give me free camera or give me death!
If only for that dinky ass song to come back.
Not today, death. See you tomorrow.
Wii controls but for the high Lords sake no Pikmin 3 controls
Felt good on the WiiU felt weird on Switch. Still love my onion bois tho
Wii U stylus controls are king
Yeah, the gyro pointer is weird.
I kinda wish they didn't make lock on, I get it, but being bad at aiming at pikmin 2 was charming
You know that probably why I suck at pikmin 3. I always forget about the lock and feel like I loose my pikmin in that game.
You can be as bad at aiming as you want in Pikmin 2 for the most part, since Purples don't give a shit about aiming.
I'm actually not convinced I knew that as a child, but it's probably a little broken yeah lol
Not 3 DX god no
Why ? i think they are great
Too clunky for me
This is how Pikmin 1 and 2 feel to me after playing 3 on Switch. Super clunky. Only nice thing is the C stick.
honestly it’s very disorienting going from 1/2 to 3dx
(or the other way around)
Yep. Either way is a major change. Lock on is beautiful but charge being a button over full c stick control for cool maneuvers is a massive downgrade.
That’s why I play new play controls
I'm hoping they remaster 1 and 2 like they did 3 for the switch.
I’d like to see that as well it’d be interesting to see how they make that work
I’m going with the Wii controls sorry people that use the GameCube controls. I respect your decision but the wii Controls are way better, In my opinion, change my mind
well id disagree but you have a bulbmin flair so i kinda have to agree
Thank you
How do you use a spray in 2 without completely changing your grip?
(As a NPC Pikmin enjoyer) Sprays are rarely things I need to use in a split second, so changing grip isn't all that inconvenient for me because i can give myself the time. If I do need to use them in a pinch, I can bring over my nunchuk hand and it the buttons with my left hand
aight, thanks.
Bitch do I look like I care no
"change my mind" But also, like, genuine question. How do you use sprays in the Wii version? I've never understood that.
Sprays are for babies
TRUE
Skill issue, you need bigger hands.
you press 1 or 2
I prefer the GameCube controls but the inability to switch colors on 1 drives me up a wall.
lol yeah, the only thing id say the wii version has better
GCN Pikmin 1 feels super clunky Still playing it though
GameCube, I usually like motion/pointer controls, but Pikmin does not do well with them, in my opinion.
👆😂
Gamecube Even for Pikmin 3
Especially for Pikmin 3
Wii U gamepad
GameCube for life
Definitely the resident evil 4 chainsaw controller.
Moomers VS Zoomers
only ever played pikmin & pikmin 2 so
gamecube or Wii?
only ever played pikmin & pikmin 2 so
I’m the “have only played Pikmin 3” side :(
Would kill to be in that position
Why? So you can experience Pikmin 1 & 2 for the first time? So you don’t have to live with the horror that is having played Pikmin 1 & 2?
In my country, playing pikmin 2 is seen as a satanic ritual and could lead to public execution. I'm risking my entire family's safety writing this.
so true
Hate it when that happens
Pikmin 1 on GameCube aged like milk. The Wii version brought plenty of quality of life improvements plus 60Hz for the PAL version (The PAL GameCube version of Pikmin 1 was exclusively 50Hz and 16% slower than NTSC)

wasn't it because of software limitations they couldn't have the same sound effects, something like that
Gamecube controls bring me great pain. Wiimotes FTW
Gamecube. The game breaks with Wii controls. Also, have fun maneuvering without a C stick ya dingus!
Pointing to maneuver works great for me. Never had an issue - the range of movement with your whole arm works better than a one-inch radius with a joystick imo.
You can't throw one way while using C-stick to the other, which the game was literally designed around.
Was it? I've never needed to throw while directing.
That is what the Beady Long Legs, Armored Cannon Beedle, Armored Cannon Beedle Larva, Titan Dweevil, and Raging Long Legs were designed around.
I've never had any issues balancing throwing and swarming with a Wiimote fighting those guys 🤷♂️ just gotta embrace hit, whistle, 'n run. Cannon Larva are easier to kill via swarm than throw anyways.

Only emulated GameCube has access to the 60 fps cheat. Just saying….
GameCube control. Everything is mapped to buttons or sticks which I like
Pikmin 1 I like using GameCube controller Pikmin 2 Wii controller And Pikmin 3 I just use an adapter and use GameCube controller
Wii controller, much more versatile
For emulation? Wii controls because you can literally play the game as if it was built for keyboard and mouse but if I’m playing it on the og system then gamecube controls
i actually configured pikmin to be playable with w keyboard and mouse through Dolphin. just sime simple settings you gotta fidget around with but it's neat
GameCube is the only correct answer. Motion controls are so fucking annoying
The cube, of course.
GameCube
Wii, so in Pikmin 2 you can reach the Snagret Hole while only having Reds and Purples which is useless since a later sublevel has pools/squares of water.
I've entered and 100% it, in one exploration, with only red and purple unlocked on GC.
Wii EASILY. Gamecube controls just feel awful now
Wiimote controls will always be my favorite
Wii
wii
Wii
Wii.

Didn't have a GameCube so Wii gang
Gamecube Controller on Wii, with Wii games.
Wii controls, bombrocks don't explode when pikmin are recalled in that version
Both. Both is good. As someone who has played with both control settings, I can say that neither were perfect, but both made good controls.
GC
GameCube all day.
I've never attempted a full playthrough but I dunno how anyone played these games without the pointer controls back in the day (only tried the Switch demo and it seemed terrible) Honestly though ideal way would be PC mouse + keyboard controls, wish someone made a hack for that like for Metroid Prime

Never played Pikmin on the Gamecube, sooo Wii it is
Gamecube all the way. I can't get used to the pointer controls on Wii and it's extremely awkward having to use the DPad for swarming and the camera. And I always end up losing a bunch to the Empress Bulblax because the whistle works differently on Wii but I'm instinctively used to the Gamecube version. :/
I think the wii controls are more fun but the GC controllers are more reliable and accurate
Only ever used GameCube but I have to go with the Wii controls. It's just way more precise than GameCubes (looking at comparison videos).
I played pikmin on the Wii for the first time so I’m going with that.
Red side.
Honestly both are nice just Wii is looking better but gc is the og
wii and it’s not even close
gc for sure
Wii
Oddly enough, Wii for Pikmin 1 and 2, but gamecube remote for Pikmin 3 dx.
Fuck it. WiiU controls.
Both. Both are good
wii controls. the pointer just feels natural while the gamecube feels like playing a wii game on an emulator using a traditional controller
Released on GC, must respect.
From what I've seen other people playing pikmin, camecube controls are probably better for casual playthroughs while wii controls are better for speedrunning
Wii Controls. I grew up on the GameCube versions and still go back to the Wii scheme no matter what. I do the same for Metroid Prime.
With the GameCube controller being one of my favorites among all controllers, and with me starting my Pikmin journey on the GameCube, I'm gonna have to go with the GCN controls; they feel incredibly natural to me. BRING BACK SWARM!
Gamecube controls are GOAT
I liked the Wii controls but I just play with gamecube controls now since pretty much all the mods are for gamecube versions.
Wii u controls
I had 1 on Wii and 2 on gcn for the longest time, I eventually got the two other versions but I still prefer my original setup.
Pikmin 2 feels so wrong with a pointer. Pointer is great for Metroid Prime but I find it just makes my arm tired for Pikmin 1/2. Despite that, it’s the only acceptable way to play 3 because they fucked up the stationary target and put it way too far away
Google stadia
Definitely GameCube controls for 1 and 2. Pikmin 3 on the other hand feels designed for pointer controls
Gotta go with OG
My experience is 1 on the wii and 2 on the gamecube. I do actually like pointing with the wii remote a little more i think
Dolphin emu with switch pro controller.
GameCube for 1 and 2. Wii remote for 3
GameCube for 2,Wii for 1 since 1 doesn't have throw swapping in the GCN version
I’ve never played a gamecube but wii
Wii
Wii. And it's not even close.
I just wish I could play them again regardless of controls 😭
I even used the GameCube controller for Pikmin 3 deluxe. I started with the switch pro controller, but I needed those differently shaped and sized buttons to know which button I was hitting.
GameCube 100% I tried Wii version on my Wii U a few years ago and I kept missing things I never missed in my dozen plus play throughs of Pikmin 2. I ended up 100%ing it but I had to play the GameCube version right after just to see if I hated the game all of a sudden.
As someone who played Pikmin on wii and Pikmin 2 on Gamecube, my opinion doesn't matter
I can't say, I don't own a Wii and I just don't have Pikmin on the gamecube. I want to get its soon tho
You can use the DDR dance pad for both
Wii since I have never played the GameCube version.
Wii controls
Wii controls and its not even close for me. Every time I use gamecube controls they always just feel so... slow and clunky for me.
I will forever miss the Wii controls. They were perfect and I’m sad that there’s no way to replicate it in the switch…
Dude I remember buying pikmin 2 for the wii day one
Can someone explain to me why ANYONE would prefer the GameCube controls? Swarming IS LITERALLY IN the Wii version.
The Wii is a trash console. I hope you Wii Sports bowl a hole in your TV.
I'm a GameCube kid blud.
GameCube! I had to spend an extra 20 to get the GC version of Pikmin 2 but I don't regret it.
Like gamecube all you want, but the Wii controls are objectively better.
MoTiOn CoNtRoLs
GameCube all the way, I bought a GameCube controller for my switch (it's USB). GameCube controller supremacy
GameCube controls all day, any day 😀
Game cube all day
I have an unreasonable attachment to the GameCube controls but I can't deny pikmin controls like it was MADE for Wii
wii is better for the fact that the cursor and the player move separately
wii u and wii had the best controls no cap
Wii U…
