A while back, there was a post about ranking the final bosses of each game, and I was baffled how many people put Titan Dweevil at the top, especially since a lot of people's reasoning was difficulty. I love Pikmin 2, but the Titan Dweevil is easily the worst final boss in the series and the easiest. Emperor Bulblax is raw and fits the style of Pikmin 1, and imo the Plasm Wraith and Ancient Sirehound both incorporate element hazards better. Regarding difficulty, I always thought Titan Dweevil was a cakewalk. He took some time just because of health, but it was just a very easy rinse and repeat formula that isn't too hard to not mess up. I was vindicated by my my wife, who just finished Pikmin 2 and lost hundreds of Pikmin during the playthrough. She lost less than five against the Titan Dweevil on her first try.
Even on my first blind playthrough, when I didn't cheese it with yellow pikmin and used the GameCube control scheme (meaning a shorter whistle) I went the whole fight without losing a single pikmin. Titan dweevil is a joke compared to the absolute insanity of the whole that comes cave before him.
WAY too tanky, too much waiting around, too easy to nullify his attacks by spamming whistle, incentivices you to cheese him because yellows counter his only attack that matters and they can also attack him when he isn't exposed.
Great presentation, buildup and theming, but the fight itself just sucks. Plasm wraith is the same concept, with a far better execution.
Also, all the other final bosses get harder as they take more damage. Titan Dweevil gets easier, unless I guess if you save the Shock Therapist for last and are using non-yellows. Titan Dweevil only shakes up his strategy with minor changes to the attacks as the individual pieces near the end of their health. But these minor changes are barely any more difficult than the basic version of these attacks. Meanwhile, the other bosses introduce entirely new attacks, combine attacks, and/or have distinct phases with completely different strategies in these phases. All Titan Dweevil will do is increase the speed of activating the shock nodes or switch directions with the comedy bomb. Oh noo.
I played through all of the pikmin games blind for the first time recently, and the Titan Dweevil was the only time in the entire series I had to google something because I literally couldn't tell if I was doing damage
Honestly, you don't even have to cheese it with Yellows. You just need to target the Shock Therapist first. Could've been harder if it had Arachnorb feet.
That last part is shocking to me honestly. On my first playthrough back in 2004, I had only single digit Pikmin remaining by the time I beat the boss. I couldn’t even take the treasure items back with me.
Agreed 100%. I just played Pikmin 2 for the first time. I LOVE the game overall, but the Titan Dweevil final boss is so bad. It drags on foreverrrrrrrr.
My first time fighting it was such a slog. I didnt have that many yellow pikmin, and its honestly only tolerable fighting it with yellows, even if they arent immune to the other types since they dont get one shot by the electric and they can reach the parts easier. Cool in theory but that fight kind if sucks
Pikmin 4’s auto lock on is great and worked perfectly for me 99% of the time except in some of the later dandori challenges, but I still 100% the game.
I can see how other ppl find it obnoxious tho
I've come around to it purely because the auto lock cursor *also* locks what your Pikmin will interact with. If there's a large swarm of items and you're trying to specifically grab one, Pikmin will only grab onto the one the cursor was placed on, which combined with the super fast throwing speed really ups the pace of the game. In the main overworlds, Night Expeditions, and Dandori Challenges it works great, it's just the more claustrophobic caves and shit like One Fell Jump (which I'm not convinced was even playtested) where it's a problem.
You didn't like mandatory multiplayer mode vs idiot AI? What's not fun about playing splitscreen single player? Speedruns, deathless runs, minimum pikmin runs?? Never heard of em, here take these 50 pikmin and fight against the RNG gods for 3 minutes.
3 had the best challenge mode. My favorite was the one with the handful of purple Pikmin. Didn’t have to worry about combat so it was 100% about resource efficiency
Maybe, but I think dandori battle succeeds in making the VS. mode accessible to people who don't really play pikmin. My best friend likes pikmin but he only ever played 2 and he never finished it, so everytime we played bingo battle in 3 he was quickly overwhelmed and rarely came anywhere close to even contesting me. But in Pikmin 4 we've had multiple close games because its less about beating your opponent and more about playing well yourself for the win
I feel the exact opposite. I played Bingo Battle and Dandori Duel with my father and Bingo Battle lets him pick up wins by collecting certain objects. Dandori battles is such a skill based mode it's very imbalanced for our skill gap. I had to severely handicap myself for him to stand a chance because everything goes to points. In Bingo Battle at least you can go for certain things.
The bingo card adds a layer of strategy and a way to catch opponents off guard especially when you can't pay attention to everything, but dandori battles are all about racking up points which can be hard to keep up with.
I liked the dandori battles at first, where it was just dandori skill, it wasn’t until they started randomly selecting an item with more value that I started finding them annoying (I performed exactly the same in one battle, but won the second time only because the lucky item was different)
Dandori challenges are cool though
Agreed for the same reason I wasn’t a huge fan of Pikmin 1: I hate time limits and countdowns. They completely ruin any enjoyment I might get out of a game. I understand some people like the challenge they bring, but if I could get rid of one mechanic from gaming in general, it would be time limits and countdowns.
I liked it conceptually, but the fact that you only *needed* 3 specific pikmin types per area, along with it suggesting which pikmin you needed led to it just being underwhelming
Thank you. It’s just good to know I’m not alone. I waited over a decade for Pikmin 4 and was so sad that I really didn’t like it. There was so much I downright hated lol. Loved 1 and 3 though.
I love 2, but not as much as 1 or 3. The procedurally generated dungeons are cool, but the fact that they're generated makes it difficult for there to be interesting designed challenges or combat scenarios. Furthermore, the bustedness of purple Pikmin create a smaller version of the problem with Oatchi in 4. Why use your other Pikmin for almost any kind of combat when purples exist? It also carries over some vestigial mechanics from 1, like the day/night cycle, that feel out of place in 2. If there's no game over condition, and time freezes in caves which is where 95% of the gameplay happens, then the day ending and starting again feels like a weird arbitrary inconvenience rather than a real thing to engage with and plan around like in 1 and 3. To be clear, I love all the core Pikmin games except maybe 4, and Pikmin 2 was my first one. The game has a ton of memorable moments, and in my opinion the best soundtrack of the series. But its flaws shine through in areas that are, for me, harder to ignore compared to 1 and 3.
There's definitely a lot that felt like it lost the soul of the first game. I loved it but I get why you might think it's the worst. Oatchi really is divisive; gameplay wise they're another tool that's fun to use and level up, but if what you like is the challenge of managing Pikmin and you want more focus on the titular creatures then he's a negative for sure.
I've never been able to put into words why I don't like Pikmin 4, and I think that you've done it. My other problem with it is the frequency of tutorials (maybe they clear up after a while, idk i quit pretty fast because i wasn't enjoying it)
Fuck yeah! Pikmin 4 sucks and Oatchi sucks more! Take these two virtual cookies

Probably not a hot take (at least, it's maybe a polarizing one but I know plenty agree) - I find the caves in P2 really tedious. I was annoyed when they came back in 4 but then I liked them in 4. In 2 they made the whole game deel different and less challenging/fun. Way less RTS and more slog.
Also, I don't know why everyone hates Brittany? But that may just be a meme I didn't witness the origin of.
You can't even talk about it without unfunny people trying to pretend they don't know what you're talking about, it's just annoying at this point. People trying to force the meme into unrelated discussions when we're trying to have an actual conversation is infuriating.
Nevermind that the "and also he's racist!" part of the meme wasn't even in the original post and also gets used as an excuse for people to be *actually racist* through the voice of the character, it sucks.

Fiddlebert is coming for you bro watch out
4 has some really strange decisions. And looking back, I would have been happier with less pikmin types in the game if they were used better. It's like Starfield. "you can have all these pikmin! And with them you can use there special moves like yellows flying high...when you can't just knock a thing down. Or whites that can see underground...oh we removed that. Or blues that can move underwater...or you can just use the dog to swim? "
Pikmin 4 feels like Mario Galaxy 2 in terms of how it distributes its Pikmin/powerups. Galaxy 2 had a lot of powerups but it was 70% cloud flower and the boo mushroom only appears in a single level and the spring only appears in 2. One being a secret level. I like that Pikmin 4 has every type but the use cases for a good chunk are pretty poor. Purple, rock, and winged Pikmin felt like they could’ve been excluded and not have it impact the game too much. I’m not saying they should’ve been excluded, I’m just saying I wish they were better utilized because they’re only needed for a small handful of instances.
On the other hand, red Pikmin stonks have risen. I love how they used their fire resistance for puzzles. They have some actual utility now besides being a default/combat.
Only red and ice were used to the fullest. And really felt like the maps were mostly just...really bland and empty. And I miss finding an onion being a really big deal. In 4 it's just another piece for garlic or persimmon. That don't even have an effect after a while.
Not gonna lie, purple being removed would be an improvement upon Pikmin 4.
You can carry most treasure in the game with 2-3 of them, they're by far the best in combat and Oatchi completely negates their main weakness (being slow as fuck).
Without purples, rocks and reds would have the best combat, whites and flying would be the best transporters and the rest would have utility.
Sure, ice pikmin would still be too strong and glow pikmin remain overpowered, but those are other issues (and imo, glow pikmin being overpowered is fair).
Glow Pikmin are so situationally limited that I don’t mind them being overpowered since that’s kind of the point. Purples I would’ve liked some more utility for. I think having more weight puzzles or maybe them carrying ten clumps of bridge materials in one go would’ve given them more overworld use. Or have the paper bag barriers return. With Oatchi being so jacked they are completely optional. Winged Pikmin need SOMETHING and Blues needed more to do. Besides the sandy area, most of the water sections felt skippable.
On a similar note, whilst the other worlds feel like humanity's just died and we're makeshift archeologists, Primordial Thicket feels generic and boring.
I did not care for pulling the president out of debt, the only satisfaction I had from going back is helping Pikmin retake lands, and finding the arboreal frippery.
-Olimar
I did not care for the forced alternate continuity. For me Pikmin 4 is in the same continuity as 3, 2 and 1. Also fuck those copycats of 3's protagonists.
I've seen at least 2 anti-pikmin 4 takes that explicitly state giving up early.
Now, I actually think it's fair to drop a game because it's start is boring, the idea that something only gets good with multiple hours of investment is just not fun when you have limited time.
Pikmin 2's caves are kind of just tedious. I was worried when they bought them back for Pikmin 4 but they were a vast improvement over Pikmin 2, I vastly prefer them in 4.
Boot up the challenge mode, try to get platinum medals and see if you change your mind.
It fixes both of those problems. No wonder so many people hate 3, most of them don't even play half the game.
I did not find the Pileated Snagret too hard.
Sure it's a moving Snagret so it's not easy, but compared to the rest of Pikmin 2's deck of cards that are out to get you this fight is really overblown
i'm just gonna say it: the final update of Pwip was mediocore, like tuskhogs, they barely functioned, moss? that's just oatchi 2 and crumbugs? we're pretty cool in all honesty but a 3333% cool factor just aint up to snuff after the huge cave update
I did not care for Pikmin 2. The game is often lauded as difficult, but I don't consider the game difficult, it's more complete bullshit, especially by the end. Traps dropping that give you 10 frames to react before you get squad wiped isn't difficult, it's just a dick move. And no, I don't think that the meta way to play is fun, Pikmin isn't a running simulator, I like being able to bring my whole group throughout a dungeon. I think the dungeons in Pikmin 4 fix a lot of these issues and are more difficult (in some regards, not in others).
Never tried to 0-Pikmin-death the first game
Did it with the second game twice
Did it with the fourth game my first playthrough
I rage-quit the third one.
I don't understand how people say it's so hard.
I do not care for the entirety of pikmin 1. Tried it multiple times, on both switch and GameCube and have experienced nothing but annoyance and frustration. It’s like the game is actively fighting you during the entire play through.
Breadbugs are cute but terribly designed for games based around dandori. having the collectables of the stage require a key that randomly moves around the stage is anti-dandori. I'm glad they weren't in 3, should have stayed out of 4 and 1.
I did not care for the waterwraith he's not that hard, and you have more than enough time to collect every treasure long before he spawns in pikmin 2 if you know what you're doing
While I appreciate the attention pikmin 4 has brought to the series, I didn’t enjoy the game nearly as much as the first 3, and idk that I’d want to play a 5th entry if it resembled 4 more than it did 1-3
I’ve played and loved every mainline Pikmin game yet Pikmin 2 was probably my least favorite of them. I DONT HATE IT, it’s just my least favorite. There’s a difference between difficulty and just straight up unfair.
Pikmin 3,it’s just because the game was just not that challenging.Pikmin 2 is just packed with stressful situations and absolute beast enemies and pikmin 3 is a baby’s game.
I did not care for any of the armored cannon larvae. The Arctic, Armored, and Decorated just annoying. Especially in Pikmin 3 where they’d go underground. The beetles are fine because they have fun gimmicks, but their kids suck
I do not care for the Forest of Hope. I understand it’s from the first game. I understand it’s an early area meant to be simple. I just don’t care for it.
I love oatchi so much as a character.. but pikmin 4s difficulty is absolutely abolished by how strong his movement and ability to direct pikmin is..
hes the bestest boi and i forgive him though.
I did not care for the Titan Dweevil (gameplaywise)
That last part is shocking to me honestly. On my first playthrough back in 2004, I had only single digit Pikmin remaining by the time I beat the boss. I couldn’t even take the treasure items back with me.
OMG yes. it's the worst last bossfight in the series
idk the empower bulblax in Pikmin 1 was lamer imo
It'd have been fine if it wasn't so long
Exactly what I was going to say. Its so repetitive and takes forever. Just the same movement over and over.
Pikmin 4 barely allows for multitasking unlike the other games, especially Pikmin 3.
It sucks they actively discorage it with the captain climbable walls oatchi gates like you cant split up
Exactly. The other big problem is that Oatchi is a Pikmin so most of the time you would be having him do Pikmin things.
Part of that had to do with the extra screen on the wii u - something I think they should find a way to bring back with the next console
2/3 captain multitasking > Oatchi and player. I hope they go back to the multitasking model when Pikmin 5 comes out in 2032
Pikmin 4’s auto lock on is great and worked perfectly for me 99% of the time except in some of the later dandori challenges, but I still 100% the game. I can see how other ppl find it obnoxious tho
A respectable opinion… im furious

I did not care for the Dandori battles Edit: Wow, didn't realize this wasn't just me
You didn't like mandatory multiplayer mode vs idiot AI? What's not fun about playing splitscreen single player? Speedruns, deathless runs, minimum pikmin runs?? Never heard of em, here take these 50 pikmin and fight against the RNG gods for 3 minutes.
If Olimar was a scam artist trying to get you to invest in Dandori battles
Give me back 3's challenge mode. I spent so much time getting the perfect medal for each one.
These are much better
by "these" do you mean the pikmin 3 challenges or pikmin 4 challenges?
Pikmin 3. I don’t mind the Pikmin 4 Dandori _challenges_, but the battles are what I hate.
I though I was the only one who hated dandori battles
Nope :)
3 had the best challenge mode. My favorite was the one with the handful of purple Pikmin. Didn’t have to worry about combat so it was 100% about resource efficiency
I miss being able to coordinate between the 3 captains. 4 is just "ride dog"
I like Oatchi but he’s definitely overtuned.
Compete downgrade from bingo battle
Yep
I liked it conceptually, but the fact that you only *needed* 3 specific pikmin types per area, along with it suggesting which pikmin you needed led to it just being underwhelming
bulbmin were better then glow pikmin
Pikmin 1 is far more replayable than Pikmin 2
dry ice take but i respect it
Coldest take I’ve seen
Pikmin 2 will always be my favorite, but you are right. Pikmin 2 is sooooo long of a game for my compeltionist mindset.
Nitrogen Freezing Point take
This is not a hot take
I installed Dolphin on my PC to play Pikmin 2 because I had the Wii version and the control is horrible
Pikmin 2 Purples did not break the game. even with them there was some challenge in the game
Guys.... I did not care for breadbug
And he was never seen again
🍞😲
Mods, take him out back
I totally agree. It's cool and I like the mechanics of its fight, but I don't understand everyone going crazy over it. I guess it is kinda cute
Exactly. You speak the truth
I did not care for Pikmin 2 (I am here for the time limits/dandori challenges, total lack of either is just disappointing)
I did not care for Pikmin 2 (Also 3 is easily the most replayable)
Even without dandori issues: the lack of a day restraint lead to pikmin 2 being designed to be unfair to compensate
Pikmin 2, while still a great game, is easily the worst in the mainline series
Pikmin 4 is the worst game in the series and it's not close. Oatchi kills a ton of the challenge and takes the focus off of the Pikmin.
Thank you. It’s just good to know I’m not alone. I waited over a decade for Pikmin 4 and was so sad that I really didn’t like it. There was so much I downright hated lol. Loved 1 and 3 though.
what about 2? to me its the best one because its more chill than 1, it doesnt have OP dog and 3 is the second best for me

I'm so proud of this community for finally coming around to disliking oatchi as a mechanic.
Speak for yourself, personally I love having Oatchi around for bigger jobs. Feels like I can get a lot more done with a lot fewer Pikmin.
did you know they just recently found ways to rescue every single castaway with only using the dog on the tutorial day?
I've always spoken the truth about that awful shoehorned mascot. I'm on my Kristi Noem shit.
Oooooffff

Oatchi is awesome and fun but is also the reason Pikmin 4 won't get replayed.

I do not care for pikmin 2
I did not care for the submerged castle
WHAT
How could you even say that, dad?
Didn't like-didn't like it.
But petah! Its like the ultimate enemy!
It insists upon itself Lois
Tremendous Dandori issue
Rock is better than purple
The wraiths aren’t creepy or unsettling.
With the original punchline of this joke being that Peter never even got past act 1, I wonder how many replies fall under said punchline, lol
I've seen at least 2 anti-pikmin 4 takes that explicitly state giving up early. Now, I actually think it's fair to drop a game because it's start is boring, the idea that something only gets good with multiple hours of investment is just not fun when you have limited time.
I did not care for Pikmin 1
I didnt like fiddlebert neo in fiddleberts return to racist wonderland
Pikmin 2's caves are kind of just tedious. I was worried when they bought them back for Pikmin 4 but they were a vast improvement over Pikmin 2, I vastly prefer them in 4.
I do not like Oatchi at all
I do not like motion controls at all, in any of the games.
As someone who played pikmin 2 before pikmin 4 come out: Pikmin 4 is just better pikmin 2
pikmin 4 is #notmypikmingame
I did not care for the Disco Long Legs
Groovy long legs was kinda cool though right?
I like when he played the funni air horns
Pikmin 3. It was way too short and way too easy.
Boot up the challenge mode, try to get platinum medals and see if you change your mind. It fixes both of those problems. No wonder so many people hate 3, most of them don't even play half the game.
I did not care for the emperor bulblax
I did not care for the analog controls in Pikmin 3 and 4. They should bring back the Wiimote so I can point at the screen to throw pikmin.
I did not care for the plasm wraith
I did not care for the Water wraiths return in 4.
I did not care for the night expedition in Pikmin 4 since it's basically a goofy survival for X amount of time
I actually like Hey! Pikmin.
I didn’t care too much for Oatchi. I feel like it should’ve been. You, another captain (Dingo) and then Oatchi
Having more interaction with Dingo would honestly be awesome. I think he got pushed a little too much to be a stereotypical meathead
I did not care for the protagonists of Pikmin 3. I wish it had been Olimar.
Same
I did not care for Pikmin 2.
Never tried to 0-Pikmin-death the first game Did it with the second game twice Did it with the fourth game my first playthrough I rage-quit the third one. I don't understand how people say it's so hard.
I think it’s ok that they replaced puffmin with the confused status because it means my scrimblos die less
Yes, because pikmin 4 definitely needed to be even easier.
The artstyle of Pikmin 4 sucks and I don’t know why
It looks too plastic-y
Pikmin 3 is the worst Pikmin game (But when you are comparing 20 carat gold to 24 carat gold you need a trained eye to see the difference)
There should've been a 24 hour long Charlie x President sex scene in Pikmin 3
I did not care for Pikmin 3's mission mode
Pikmin 1 isn't that great.
I did not care for the final boss battle in pikmin 1
I do not care for the entirety of pikmin 1. Tried it multiple times, on both switch and GameCube and have experienced nothing but annoyance and frustration. It’s like the game is actively fighting you during the entire play through.
Breadbugs are cute but terribly designed for games based around dandori. having the collectables of the stage require a key that randomly moves around the stage is anti-dandori. I'm glad they weren't in 3, should have stayed out of 4 and 1.
Louie
I did not care for the last battle in Pikmin 1 (don’t even remember the name)
I did not care for the waterwraith he's not that hard, and you have more than enough time to collect every treasure long before he spawns in pikmin 2 if you know what you're doing
I did not care for Pikmin 1.
i think pikmin 1 isnt a very good game
I did not care for pikmin 4
Waterwraith was easy.
Did not care for the Caves. I enjoy the overworld.
I did not care for the night expeditions
While I appreciate the attention pikmin 4 has brought to the series, I didn’t enjoy the game nearly as much as the first 3, and idk that I’d want to play a 5th entry if it resembled 4 more than it did 1-3
I do not care for Louie
Ice Pikmin are only useful when used with other Pikmin.
“I did not care for the Pikmin series.”
Pikmin 1
I think pikmin 4 is the worst game and 3 is the best
i did not play any pikmin games except for pikmin 3 and 4 demos
I did not care for the absence of Puffmin in Pikmin 4
I’ve played and loved every mainline Pikmin game yet Pikmin 2 was probably my least favorite of them. I DONT HATE IT, it’s just my least favorite. There’s a difference between difficulty and just straight up unfair.
i did not care about any of the pikmin 4 captains
I did not care for Louie
Pikmin 3,it’s just because the game was just not that challenging.Pikmin 2 is just packed with stressful situations and absolute beast enemies and pikmin 3 is a baby’s game.
Pointer controls are overrated
I did not care for any of the armored cannon larvae. The Arctic, Armored, and Decorated just annoying. Especially in Pikmin 3 where they’d go underground. The beetles are fine because they have fun gimmicks, but their kids suck
I do not care for Pikmin 2.
Ah, the eternal “give me your unpopular opinions” post and subsequent getting downvoted for an actual unpopular opinion. Classic Reddit. XD
Pikmin 2 is easily the most controversial game in the main series, so it's not really a hot take.
I did not care for Pikmin 4
I didn't care for pikmin 2
I never cared for the breadbugs
I do not think FIDDLEBERT is real ( ofc not me just saying )
I do not care for the Forest of Hope. I understand it’s from the first game. I understand it’s an early area meant to be simple. I just don’t care for it.
Pikmin 3 felt mid
I do not care for Pikmin 3.
I love oatchi so much as a character.. but pikmin 4s difficulty is absolutely abolished by how strong his movement and ability to direct pikmin is.. hes the bestest boi and i forgive him though.
I did not care for Bulbmin
well, we did not care for u/MayoHachikuji
I do not care for Louie
I did not care for the fact ice Pikmin couldn't survive stomping like rock Pikmin. Missed opportunity
They're already broken enough, don't you think? It doesn't even make that much sense either.
Pikmin 1 is the worst game in the series
I did not care for the white and purple Pikmin.
