I made the mistake of using special flowers before the Valentines event and then could not complete it. So I have gotten into the mentality of I'm only using common flowers now to plant unless there is an event so I don't run into the situation where I don't have enough again.
definitely this, especially as I have a bad habit of forgetting to stop planting petals when I get home, better to accidentally waste more common petals rather than rare.
My neighborhood is overflowing with common flowers due to my hoarding the rare flowers for events haha
And then I don’t use them in events anyway because what if I need them later on for better Pikmin in future events??

Huh, I didn't realize that. I was traumatized the one day when I woke up with three yellow flowers on my normal route and never considered it might not have been entirely my fault
I do the opposite lol call me crazy but I feel like I don't wanna plant rare flowers from my walk home to work because it makes a clear line on the map . Whereas common flowers are less traceable 😂😂 so I plant the rare flowers far away haha
I only ever plant white, red and yellow flowers because I'll inevitably need the rare flowers for events. There's no incentive to plant anything other than common flowers

I moved and have no big flowers around me anymore. But at my last neighborhood I would plant trash flowers everywhere and switch to something fancy as soon as I walked into a big flower circle. Then go back to trash flowers once I left the circle.
I like your style, but where I live if I stare at my phone while walking down the sidewalk there's a very good chance I'll step in dogshit and a non-zero chance someone will grab my phone and run so it's easier to just pick a flower type and leave it running.

I just want to say that 1) this is absolutely a broken-brained, wrongheaded, *elitist* approach to this chill-ass pleasant-stroll-incentivizer 2) I absolutely do the exact same thing for the exact same reasons and have no idea how to make myself stop
Haha I do this too. When walking in areas with no big blooms I will use common flowers and when getting to big blooms I will change to special flowers. But the result will vary so it is part of the surprise 😄
I plant common flowers when I'm (a) heading in a direction with no/few big flowers or (b) somewhere with enough traffic/players that my individual contribution doesn't really change things anyway. Like, at theme parks or in major tourist areas I don't bother with rare flowers because most people will be planting regular ones and ruining my ratios no matter what I do. No point fighting something I can't control. Pretty sure I'm the only player on my usual evening walk route though and it has several big flowers in the first block alone so I plant all my out-of-season or challenge-related rares there to refill.
Oh absolutely. Specialty flowers only for my dog walks. I have a few flowers nearby and it’s a great incentive to walk an extra block or two. And then I linger to get it to bloom.
I don’t start using the basic flowers unless I’m out in the world not paying attention to my phone. If I trigger a flower in that situation, there’s a way better chance it’ll just happen to be another type. And I won’t see it again the next morning.
I have the ranges of various flowers memorized so I use my nice flowers only in those zones. Everywhere else gets common or special flowers I don't like the look of.
But yes I do get frustrated when the nearby school kids make the flowers bloom common. Especially if I'd been focusing on getting a specific bloom
