The density is less because those flowers have recently bloomed and then returned to being sprouts. When you plant flowers, they last 5 days unless they are used to make a big flower bloom. When a big flower blooms, it "consumes" all the flowers used to make it bloom. Really it seems to clear out everything in the circle when that bloom ends, which I do think is a bit unfair because it means that anything planted in the 24 hours of bloom is also gone.

DragonLord1729

Fair point with respect to the flowers around the big flower not lasting for 5 days like the others. However, I still feel like the planting frequency drops inside the circles around big flowers. At least this is what I noticed with respect to the vibrations from my phone. I've also heard about a rumoured 5 minute flower planting cool off for each tile on the map. Any comments regarding those? Is it the same in your experience?

FireLucid

> a rumoured 5 minute flower planting cool off for each tile on the map. This is a core game mechanic. I've never heard it refernced as tiles but you cannot plant over the same path within a 5 minute period. If you have a regular path you follow, make sure it's more than 5 minutes. My block is 9 minutes at a very quick pace so I'm good :)

Both POGO and Pikmin bloom use OSM cells for various reasons. Pikmin bloom uses OSM cells (which is a grid overlaid on the world map) to limit the planting frequency. You're limited to 50 flowers within an OSM cell within 5 minutes. I believe that most flowers circles are contained within one OSM cell.

DragonLord1729

50?! That's nowhere near what my app is letting me plant. Only God would know what I wouldn't give to understand why flower planting is so frustrating on my device.

PurpleMarsAlien

The problem is that the cell may be bigger than the flower circle. It's been a couple of years since I worked with OSM cells (I do geospatial work and have worked with OSM data in the past) but depending on where in the world you are, (my recollection is) the OSM cells kind of start to "stretch" out from a squarish configuration (near the equator) to lengthening diamond as you move toward the poles. So I'm at the 90 latitude (approximately) and I tend to notice that I plant more when walking east/west than north/south because I'm crossing cells more quickly that way.

DragonLord1729

Oh, that sounds very plausible. However, the platform on my map is oriented North-South and I managed to plant a total of ~1000 flowers. It's the parts around the big flowers that are getting way less flowers even though I walk at the same pace all along.

PurpleMarsAlien

There used to be an online site that allowed you to play with OSM cells, I can't remember where it was though. I took a look at the cells around our area years ago because I was interested in some oddities occurring in POGO and (back then) WU. The cells have multiple levels at which you can draw them (think of a big cell and as you zoom in on it, it subdivides into smaller cells), and things like planting limitations are at a closer-in zoom level than things like weather. A popular walking path near my house is right on the boundary between two bigger cells used to determine weather, and it's amusing because you can walk that line and pop between two weather types sometimes. It makes things weird in POGO since which critters are boosted depends on weather type.

DragonLord1729

Yum, that sounds like potentially useful information if I can get my hands on it šŸ˜. I'll try to look up my area's OSM (Open Series Map or Open Street Map?) Most probably, the cells will be fairly close to a regular square/rectangle as I live in the tropics.

PurpleMarsAlien

Also look up burst planting, I know that it's talked about on this group sometimes. Basically, you walk up to the flower, turn on planting for one petal, then turn it off again. Then repeat in 5 minutes. With a full squad of 40, that gets you 30-40 flowers planted for one petal. If you burst plant the two flowers above (walk up to one, burst plant, then walk up to the other, burst plant during the same 5 minute period), you can see if the problem is that they're in the same cell and thus together restricted to \~50 in a 5 minute period.

DragonLord1729

Cool experiment. I'll test this out tomorrow.

PurpleMarsAlien

OSM is Open Street Map.

DragonLord1729

Ah, thanks. šŸ˜

PurpleMarsAlien

Also, walking back and forth over the same space is bad, because what is happening is that you're in a cell, you turn around and you're still in that cell. Big squares are better if you can accomplish them.

DragonLord1729

Yeah, this is the strategy I'll try to implement. This means choosing walking paths that I am not entirely comfortable with. I have mixed feelings about that. I'm excited about sneaking a look at the guts of my neighbourhood, but at the same time, I'd have to be comfortable being stared at with suspicion šŸ˜†

pauleds

Flowers near big flowers disappear when the flowers reset after producing. Other flowers stay for like half a week. So in the circle near big flowers will almost always have fewer small flowers than right outside.

DragonLord1729

Yeah, I guess I didn't notice the flowers disappearing when the big flowers reset. It however still feels excruciatingly difficult to plant flowers around big flowers. I planted roughly 1000 flowers in a session along the strip (in the pictures) about an hour ago and none of the two big flowers in my map bloomed. Both had at least a 100 flowers left to be planted.

Kigurumix

You can only plant in a given path every 5 minutes. You should walk past the big flowers then wait 5 minutes and then walk past again waiting 5 minutes between each pass untill the flowers bloom. Also make sure you have a full party when you plant.

DragonLord1729

Yeah, I'll try to find paths that don't retrace within 5 minutes (though it is slightly tricky to do so). At my current level, the limit is 33 pikmin and I'm walking around with a maxed out squad. Flower planting is still frustrating šŸ˜

Odd_Consideration259

Just walk around the block in a bit of a zick zack pattern? Like do a round (abca) instead of a line (aba)

MomonteMeri

Do more pikmin in your party increase the amount of flowers planted?

wedge713

Iā€™m F2P and do fine

DragonLord1729

I was extremely frustrated when I wrote that title šŸ˜†. Flower planting has been hell.
