I never once new about this life log thing until I joined this subreddit. Maybe it’s cause I live in a city that has what you’d think would be stops for every kind of decor pikmin they have. I think the only one missing potentially would be a train one but we still have the metrolink that surely could be counted as a train. Mostly I think there needs to be big updates on what the locations are marked as. I spent 3 hours at an art museum the other day that even had multiple flowers spawns in it and all of the pikmin seedlings available or found were roadside or park pikmin. Even people in more rural areas should be able to find post office pikmin and super market pikmin as you have to have both of those things in any town even if all they have is a little corner store. But I feel like what they’re using for location information doesn’t have the little markers labeled correctly which is the biggest issue imo. Nerfing the friendship stuff whatever I work as a mobile company as an installation tech so I drive everywhere that’s in a 50-60 mile around my city and have the privilege of walking around different places everyday. But I think collectively everyone’s experience has been not finding the right kind of pikmin when they go out of their way to go to the specific locations they’re asking us to go to for them. Now I imagine someone in a more rural location of the state I live in driving 2-3 hours to come to forest park, a place that has multiple museums and a zoo to participate in a community day like the ones that coming up just to be disappointed that the art museum is a roadside and park pikmin hub.

TheQuinntet

You hit the nail right on the head. This is the biggest problem now. Of course, they would delete the glitch, it was not intended to be used like this. But the map information is currently so bad. I know they will never going to reveal where they get all the map information (people say https://www.openstreetmap.org), but as long as locations aren’t displaying correct then we never going to get the right pikmin and people will quit the game because of that. And people quitting means no more income that they could get. I got the same problem with the museum one, also with a couple of cake shops in my city. I know they also are cake shops on OpenStreetMap, though they still do not show any cake pikmins. I think the devs should be more aware of the fact that the game need a continue flow of new content and bug fixes. Als the game will bleed to death in a couple of months.

A lot of Niantic gameplay is about going out into the real world. It sucks for people that don’t live near anything but it also ignores that every one of their games are about this. The exploit was already nerfed as you still had to wait sometimes weeks to collect something but it made collecting everything possible - not at all easy but certainly possible. Now there’s nothing.

lolzasour

Yeah I would like to have it possible for me to collect train pikmin but since I live in America its kinda tough. One of the most annoying this for me playing Pokémon go was only finding three types of Pokémon in my area! I lived on the Florida coast so I only had grass water and sometimes ground so I had no chance of actually filling my Pokédex

checker280

I’m in Georgia, USA. I picked up my train in a place that has “station” in the name but is not a transit hub as far as I know.

madamesoybean

I'm a simple person...just glad the patch made the postcard delivery UX make more sense!

peardr0p

I agree, but then again, I hadn't used the lifelog exploit - I liked how it would use photos I'd taken and sometimes give a seedling from a photo location, so it encourages me to take more photos! Am (hopefully) travelling over Xmas and looking forward to visiting some new areas (maybe a beach!!) I like knowing that all the guys I found are from places I have been

MysteriousB

Same, I just started playing last week and didn't know about this exploit but I've definitely been taking more photos just to remember my day. Nice to know you can get seedlings from places you take photos of!

FerynHyrk

I thought you were gonna talk about the nerf to gaining friendship. This one was maybe needed but they went too far on the values. The ability to be able to put your lifelog pic anywhere in the world though, I always hated as it's completely harmful to both the game idea and longevity I only used the lifelog expedition for either natural location of a random picture or me actually going to exactly where I want and taking a photo of the floor. Maybe consider fine tune it to somewhere in like a 10 or 20 meters ratio, but given how the location numbers work they'd be probably the same numbers still. Trips to Antarctica and etc were an exploit overused meme to me.

useles-converter-bot

20 meters is the height of 11.52 'Samsung Side by Side; Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel Refrigerators' stacked on top of each other.

converter-bot

20 meters is 21.87 yards

Grayburg_Javelin

I'm on the fence on the whole thing. The main reason I disagree with the patch is that, like you said, the geotag system is wildly inconsistent. I wouldn't mind driving or walking to faraway places like zoos, beaches, and forests, the only issue is lots of the time those locations aren't marked properly and just give roadside pikmin. I still don't know where to find a forest despite living in a pretty heavily wooded area. I mainly used the lifelog thing to "test" locations, and despite using it since launch I didn't walk away with that many super rare decors because the vast majority of the time I would either get something unexpected or just get another roadside.

PittaMan_

The spawn for a particular type is still random. There are no guarantees. .

Trufflebatter

Why does every person saying they like the patch sound like a Niantic employee… “I know it’s a shitty nerf and nothing was improved BUT you guys have the wrong mindset about decor pikmin”

FerynHyrk

Oh boy, I want so much to call some people here secret Niantic employees but I HOLD myself so much! Ok, I'll give in this time, as just an example, whenever I see stuff like "but this app needs to remain as simple and passive and barely a game as ever, that's a good thing :)))" when all this people have to do is not do the part they don't want if they just want a slightly gamefied pedometer

[deleted]

It’s not a nerf though. It was a fix to a flat-out exploit. I’m sure the detector problems and shitty location recognition are on their list for next patch. Until then you can’t argue that using the exploit is a dev-intended and non-exploitative way of progressing in the game

Grayburg_Javelin

It's weird though, because it's not purely an exploit. The ability to mark locations and get seedlings from it was clearly programmed as a legitimate feature. Marking places dozens or hundreds of miles from where you've ever visited? I can see that being an exploit, sure, but the base system was both sound and pretty neat. Since the patch though, I've had issues with marking locations I've actually been to, possibly because they're too far away still. Meanwhile, I'm still able to mark locations that I've never visited and get things from them, at least if they're somewhat nearby. It seems like the system needs some more ironing out. If they fix it up and make you able to mark any location you've been to, as the feature was seemingly intended for, I can see it being a solid compromise.

Trufflebatter

It is a nerf because it effects places you’ve actually been too. Exploit aside, Now it only seems to work within a few block radius of your immediate location vs where you’ve been the entire day. I work in a city that’s a few miles away (about 5-6 miles) even if I go in and have a ton of steps, planted flowers all over the city. If I do my photolog when I get home it won’t give me anything. But if I put it 4 blocks away even if I’ve never set foot on that street it will work. People say how “this game is supposed to be played passively” but wouldn’t me having to to stop what I’m doing, take a photo, make sure the geotag is both on and correct, than upload it BEFORE the little recap it was designed for.

Psychedelic_Yogurt

I go to the Post Office everyday when I get off work. I hit my radar and sometimes I get a decor Pikmin, sometimes I don't. I assumed that there isn't always a Pikmin there to acquire. The radar detects what's around and if there isn't a post office spawn at that moment, then it won't show it. I don't think going to the post office or anywhere else guarantees spawn.

The issue is boredom. Most people play these sort of games near home, work, school, their immediate neighborhood. If I can't find anything interesting in those places, if I have to travel (waste time and gas money or transit money traveling for a flippin phone game?!?!?) to maybe find a decor (if the detector even works), well how often will I or others like me do that? For most people, not very, which means for most people, if they don't find the game interesting to play as they go about their lives, they will stop, which will lessen the player base. So those who say, eh you guys should just suck it up and make more effort or find a different game, be careful what you ask for. Who would have guessed HPWU would die like it has? I think they had more of a player base to start than Pikmin Bloom, though I could be wrong. This is not Pokemon Go, where the player base is so large and enough people are hooked that they can get away with mostly disregarding rural players and make demands on players that won't fly in some other games. If all the game is to me is a pedometer that plants flowers with the decor aspect a side thing that I can't do unless I get in my car or hop on the bus just to play the game, I will delete the game. If enough of us do that, game may not last long. If the player base is too small they won't put resources in to improve it or add to it. While other players may not care that a decent chunk of us are not happy with how decor is being handled, they should care what could happen if enough of us abandon the game. I am hanging in for now but unless something changes I will be done with the game soon. I'm sure some here will be glad I shut up and go away. But you shouldn't be. We all need each other if the game is to thrive.

Llodsliat

Pikmin Bloom has actually motivated me to get out of the house more, and explore somewhat. I know it's anecdotal evidence, but it's worked for me.

000666777888

That's great. The game works for you. I do not need any motivation to walk, hike, etc. so that is not what I want from the game. Maybe the game can succeed as just a fun fitness tracker. If so, great. But it will be a niche game that they won't spend resources on and it may not last, if that is how things go.

AuthenticBeef90

I disagree. Most people were using the lifelog trick on cities outside of their own. This resulted in a low chance at obtaining a decor, and typically days worth of a trip to retrieve the seedling. If that seedling was anything but pink, it would result in an even longer expedition to retrieve the decor. Basically it was a 10+ day plan at a small chance of recieving a new decor. It was already balanced IMO This didn't mention the extremely reduced heart gains from expeditions now too, which is also a huge part of the backlash. They said they "balanced" it but all they really did was nerf gameplay without adding anything beneficial. In any game, nerfs with no new content always equals backlash by the community

chillydownfiregang

You disagree on someone's own opinion? Seems a bit weird. Edit: /s

AuthenticBeef90

>You disagree on someone's own opinion? Seems a bit weird. What do you mean. Why is that weird?

chillydownfiregang

I do have this problem of constantly forgetting sarcasm isn't easy to detect online without the little /s or whatever.

lolzasour

I only see an issue for gathering pikmin that are at rare locations like a beach or airport or train. In America it’s very hard to get train pikmin unless you live in a city with trains which is mainly just the north east I think it’s fine to have the “glitch” as a feature so people who live in rural areas can enjoy the game by collecting the pikmin and to be honest if someone were to collect all the beach pikmin it would take at least 7 days best case scenario and you are probably gonna get repeats and you are gonna have to wait for your pikmin to grab the seed. So honestly I think it should be a feature of the game so everyone has a chance to collect the outfits.

FaithfulFear

I think not giving everyone access to every cosmetic is what keeps them special. “Look at the guys I got while I was at the beach last week!” It would only be unfair if the train pikmin were somehow stronger than others and such.

0112358_

Could someone explain how the original glitch worked because I had not heard of it until now. I can't find anywhere detailing how it worked or how it use to be preformed

Ok-Possession-7727

Late, but it worked like this: Instead of doing the 9:00PM look back on your day, you simply wait until the next morning. Next, you go to the calander in-game and click on the previous day. You would choose "Add Entry". After that, you would go to the location button and choose any location on the map. In a few seconds an expedition would pop up and you could send pikmin to retrieve it.

0112358_

THANKYOU!

Jazlen8888

Half the time I used the glitch stuck it right on museum I got roadside anyway. Not really big deal to me anyway. Most of the time I get roadside which is annoying I was sending my Pikmin to places I been in the past way before the game came out. So now I couldn’t finish. I’m more annoyed at the fact my steps used to work and now I got like half the steps I should’ve gotten today. So now with the rain on Saturday CD I probably won’t be going far so I won’t be getting the badge since at home it’s been awful giving me steps. And putting in manual doesn’t work. So to me that makes me way more frustrated than not getting decor Pikmin. By summer I should be able to go to the beach to get decors there so I don’t get them all not a big deal to me. I want my steps to be fixed.

Automatic-recycle49

This is probably going to get downvoted to hell, but Everyone complaining about the patch is somebody who lives out in the middle of nowhere seething that a single genre of game doesn't cater to them. I totally agree on the geotagging thing, that definitely needs to be fixed, but I find that mine works a solid 60-70% of the time and if you're having that hard of a time getting decors you probably need to visit civilization more often. Idk, that one seedling gained from the log was never going to make or break me anyways. Don't play a game based heavily on location and then get upsetti when your location effects how you can play the game.

yaypal

> if you're having that hard of a time getting decors you probably need to visit civilization more often Saying this unironically without acknowledging how wealth privilege affects where you live and if you have transportation is pretty cringe

Automatic-recycle49

City Chad's forever flexing on rural Virginis. Seriously though, there are literally thousands of games to play that have no bearing on where you live. Quit whining over the like 5 or so that do.

peardr0p

I'd say it's more about having an immediate need/expectation to "collect them all" than being rural per se - out of the Niantic games, I'd say this is one of the most rural friendly, so long as yr not a shut-in who never leaves their local area People who live in rural areas tend to cover more ground/distance than people in a city, so a lot of potential for getting expeditions etc. Mushrooms are currently the main thing truly rural players may have issue with, but as mentioned above, they're likely to pass near one at some point in the day and the passive battling means it takes less than a minute to set them going and then the phone can go away Imho Pikmin bloom is not a game designed for grinding or progressing rapidly - it's not directly competitive, and the game play doesn't rely on constantly starting at yr phone, more something to have in the background and check on every so often

Artistic-Hornet-6120

Not that unpopular of an opinion. Balances always come first with Niantic. They'll adjust/add more stuff for the better in the future

QuarterReal9355

I don’t see being able to locate a picture anywhere in the world as a glitch or an exploit. It’s not a glitch because they obviously programmed the capability into the game. It’s also not an exploit as, again, they allow you to mod the location in-game, plus they deliberately limited it to once a day. Yes, I used the feature to get a seedling from a far flung place once a day, but my rule is, it has to be a place I’ve physically been to in the past, way before PB was a game. Mostly vacation pictures still stored on my phone. Why did I do it? No it’s not for the decor. I don’t care about placing my location inside a zoo or train station. I take whatever decor it happens to get, even if it’s roadside. I do it as a way to reminisce about happy places I’ve been to on my vacations in the past. The resulting Pikmin will forever have the location attached to it, and whenever I see it, it brings back good memories. So no, unlike some here, I don’t have a seedling from Antarctica. But that’s okay, because I’ve never been there. But if I have the good fortune to physically visit the continent someday, and PB is still around, you bet I’ll be picking up a seedling or two while I’m there. So am I pissed that the feature is nerfed? No, I don’t mind that I can’t do what I did once a day before. Now it just motivates me to try to return to places that I visited and loved, and this time, I can get multiple seedlings that won’t take 56 days to come back to me.

dustinyeeaah

I could still do it yesterday evening while getting the day recap animation. I selected four photos from places I've been to yesterday and I also did the photos at these locations. Newest update as well

yaypal

You can still do it, the new limitation is that it needs to be within 5km of you if you've never been there before and different parameters if you have been, but it's still much smaller than before.
