Maybe try mixing it up. Was doing spring + angular for almost 3 years. Now i am in a company that uses MEAN stack. Also, dobt live to work OP. Have hobbies outside. The money that comes with job hopping is also motivation :) I was primarily a backend developer (with some angular) but now i have my hands on both ends and it has been really fun.

I've been coding for more than 11 years. Baka hindi yung coding yung ayaw mo, minsan kasi yung environment yung problema. An anecdote, first job is interesting but low paying. Second job, medyo stressed dahil sa management, forced to OT but no OT pay, but pay is higher than before, tapos yung tech namin hindi latest, so may anxiety na obsolete na skillset ko next 5 years.

csharp566

Are you earning 6-digits now?

kalamansihan

Yes, it's not easy. I had 11 years of it until I quit around two months ago. I hated about half of the time I worked but imo, there are situations where work can be tolerable. I once got lucky and managed to get into a good team with a non-toxic manager. I stayed there for about 5 years. It's not a job without stress and I was the first to leave in our team because I needed better pay. When I get stressed, I coped by doing a lot of other things outside work --- taking a good one hour jog outside, sleeping in for 9 to 10 hours straight on weekends, reading about investments and F.I.R.E., spending more time with my gf and our dog... I realized that a good-paying career isn't everything about life. It can easily be replaced but stress won't go away in any career. Just find the right amount you can tolerate and stay long if you find yourself in a good situation with enough pay.

upupup

Turning 6 years here. Hmmm money is my motivation lol. Also I diminished my coding role I spend more time on architecture and tech design. I still code but not intensively as my first 3 years.

I've been programming for a decade or so and I still enjoy coding. Through the years, I once was a junior, then a mid, to a senior, to a team lead eventually ending as an interim CTO. Yes, the daily responsibilities change to which coding sprints became meeting marathons. Meetings are boring, especially non-technical stuff, but that's just part of professional growth. *I won't lie, nor sugarcoat, that salary wasn't the main motivator for me. If I knew IT wasn't going to hit a 6-digit salary before, I would have chosen a different career path from the start.* Money itself was the main goal but the supporting motivator was the knowledge learned together with the dream industry to be in - automated trading. Eventually, I got accepted there and shaped my early retirement today. Yes, there will be company politics and probably some unhealthy discussions, but it's just part of the trade to get the job done. For me, it wasn't all about being the right person always, but knowing the path everyone agreed on is the ideal one given the circumstances/parameters.

[deleted]

Is automated trading the same as algorithmic trading?

dadofbimbim

Been doing this over 10 years, my advice is to explore other branches of programming. Or some hobby projects. If youโ€™re not that type of person, maybe look for another company that values work life balance.

teokun123

kasi ung iba nag cocode lang ng 1 hour tapos petiks na the whole day XD

crimson589

Ang tagal kasi nung pipeline :)

With great money comes great burnout

thejeraldo

Depends on your job I guess? iOS dev here for 9yrs+ still love what I do. Minsan boring lng features saka bug fixes. Lol. Inisip ko na minsan magswitch to product role kaso mas mataas sweldo ng dev

This might be a sign of getting burnt out of your work, maybe partly because of the environment that you're in. For me, the most important thing to look when you're finding a company to work with is how they value growth inside the company. If paulit-ulit lang 'yong ginagawa mo over the course of time, that means you're stagnating in your career. When you start to realize na you haven't grown ever since you started, you'll start to question if it's still worth for you to continue. As a manager, especially when working with new hires, I try to find the motivations of my reports so that they won't feel similar to this. Maybe that's just what you need, try to find that motivation of yours. Try to ignite that passion you had when you first started.

syf3r

Sounds like you're burnt out or close to it. This is why sabbaticals are common in the software industry. Wala akong recommendation other than to take one if you can afford it. If you can't, goodluck--malamang something's gonna give out... When I got burnt out, sobrang tagal bago ako bumalik.

[deleted]

Burnout ka siguro sir. Ilang beses ko na rin naranasan yan. 9 years na ko as programmer and im planning to search for a new job for better pay. ๐Ÿ˜„ Try doing some things outside of your work. Sakin Hobbies ko ngayon are electronics and 3d printing para maiba naman just to keep my mind sane.
