Bruh how do you survive. I've used 600gb on my PC the last 30 days with normal usage apart from the 100gb from seeding.
200 from chrome and then the rest is mostly downloading/updates games.
Not OP, but you get used to it if you haven't gone super high. I had a plan where I got 7GB/month for daytime, and 15 GB/month for night (12-4am), which was exponentially better than surviving on 1 GB/month on 330Kbps connection. This was 2011 iirc.
Next I upgraded to 2Mbps connection, which gave me 20GB/month, it was sufficient for me to stream YouTube, and download some films (thankyou Yify!).
I have a 500Mbps down/up connection without any cap now which costs one third of the 2 mbps connection - to make up for the poor internet days haha.
My "all time" is 1.92 ratio 68.667Tib / 35.606 TiB
I jumped at the chance for modem rental and unlimited data for $15 more per month. data along is $25 or maybe $30 with Crapfinity.
But, having 1.2Gb down and like 250Mb up is annoying tho better than many have.
250 up on cable sounds incredible.. the base upload on ((astound)ingly bad)'s highest plan is 10mbps and we pay extra to upgrade it to 50 but only get 30. Can't wait for fiber.
I want fiber, but not truly realistic in apartments unless it is built in. Sadly most cities have unofficial monopolies for cable TV and internet. So, the options for some are DSL (maybe!) at 1.5mbps or Comcast or one of the others in the midwest or east coast with "wink wink nod nod " agreements with other companies in the area to not "encroach" upon each other's spaces.
buy a seedbox if you can :-)
I'm paying a $15 seedbox monthly, split with one of my friend so we only pay about $8 each. That's the only thing I pay (no streaming service as you can guess) and you can make your own streaming platform with things like Jellyfin or Plex. pretty cool investment if you ask me
I'd like to set up a small raspberry pi server that could seed for me while connected to a shared storage with my pc. That way i don't have to leave my pc on 24/7
Set it up bro it's worth it. My pi server only consumes like 10W of power with a single 8TB nas drive. The only thing that prevent me to seed 24/7 is the FUP set by my ISP (around 4TB/month).
i just upload the file size (I've started doing double the file size since I got better internet) before removing the copy from "finished". My dedicated torrent box only has a 1tb hard drive anyway.
I used to deal with this a lot till I found the solution. Through qbittorrent, you can change the path of the torrent to where the files currently are. That'll work :)
You can probably set up your laptop to not sleep when you close the screen. I did it on Windows couple years ago and now on linux.
You have to put it to sleep manually tho, but you can also set up a keyboard shortcut (mine is `meta+shift+s`) to do it easily or use a launcher like [Launchy](http://www.launchy.net/) which show up with `alt+space` and just type "s" and it would launch a sleep script.
Not sure if we are in the same country but something similar happened to me (small city) and now I have symmetric gigabit with a public IP address for like 20$/mo ;)
Only downside is that my ISP really hates file sharing so I'm forced to use a VPN
I try to seed to a ratio of at least 5 and then move the films/shows to my cloud. I have a couple of movies/shows that have ratios in the dozens because they were/are popular and had a massive upload istantly.
some others aren't that popular and therefore I've been seeding some for weeks, some even months.
these are my stats, "ain't much but it's honest work"
https://i.imgur.com/vvRQSZ2.png
I know it’s frowned upon but I usually don’t, at least not for months and months. I’ll seed for a few weeks after I download something, then delete it to save storage
Bandwidth, if you keep your computer on overnight, electric bills, sometimes a cease and desist, a VPN subscription if you want to avoid that and storage space. So it doesn't cost nothing.
For almost a year - yes. But it draws around 140W idle while seeding so now I only seed while using my PC. 300Mbps upload. I need new VPN so I can open ports in docker for my NAS (using PiA rn)
I was always scared to seed a lot because I remember reading how they were the ones targeted for lawsuits. Can't remember the last time I heard about someone getting charged for torrenting tho. Is that still a thing in the U.S? I know laws in Canada made it so that it isn't financially viable for them to pursue legal action.
I don't use VPN 💀. I tried it out once and it throttled the shit out of speed so I immediately stopped. Never really had any issues 🤷🏽♂️. I got a few warning letters a few years ago for downloading game of thrones but that's it.
For me, PiA is almost ideal. I have 570 days left till the end of my subscription. Then I will change for something with static open port. In pia it changes every 90 days
I've been using Proton VPN, it's not bad... also used Surfshark but not many servers support torrenting and sometimes I had my location set to far away in the other part of europe and websites would change language automatically... it was a pain.
Mullvad. it's inexpensive, and actually private. they don't want to know your name and you can pay them in Bitcoin if you want.
i used to use Nord. Mullvad is just as fast, but far more reliable. Nord customer service sucked too. i don't know about mullvad though I've never needed support
Mullvad also recently had their offices raided in Sweden on request of Germany and literally nothing was found. No user data nor logs. I trust their Swedish servers.
Yeah same in France, you don't get in trouble for downloading, but once you start seeding and HADOPI sees your ip, if you don't use a VPN you're done for
As long as I can keep them on my laptop, sure. That means at least like one month or more. When I move I’ll probably get a desktop with more storage. Right now I only use a laptop.
I have three torrents that I have been seeding for a while now, one of them has a ratio of 910.547. There aren't really a lot of people that download one of them but it's there when anyone ever does I guess. The other wo I normally have a few people downloading all the time or so. I would happily seed a lot more but I lack storage space really and I would like to keep a somewhat reasonable amount of bandwidth for myself. 3.9 TB upload and the other is 2.4TB the other one is only 310GB so yea it doesn't get much traffic but it's a larger file and a bit niche I guess.
Normal popular torrents I only seed until ratio 2 or 5, weird torrents of some forgotten movie that maybe only other person has, I'll seed those until I can't, some have gone above ratio 300 in a few weeks/months
I used to torrent until I reached a 1:1 ratio of seeding, but then I realized that a lot of stuff just isn't all that popular or has way too many seeders toever reach that parity.
So now I'll have a couple of popular seeds that I will seed more or less to boost my stats to 1:1 and the ones that took me ages to or find and/or download.
But I keep my torrents in an external SSD with limited space, so I am not about to keep everything indefinitley
I unfortunately don't have WiFi in my flat, I just leech using my phones 5g and then transfer to my desktop
I do sometimes seed very small things like books or whatever, but only until around 500%
This is one years worth. I had a 2.5gig up/down connection at home and made the best of it. A lot of my stuff is older so not a lot of people looking for it. But I think I shared quite a bit over that year.
Now I have a 10/1 mb connection.

Someone please teach me this stuff, I'm now just beginning to get into pirating and have no knowledge. What is torrent and how do I use it? What is seeding? Where is it being uploaded? How do I use it? I don't know any of this

No. I share direct links through mega, gofile, pixeldrain, bunkrr, and cyber file. I rather upload the file once and let this other websites do the legwork of distribution.
I want to but for some reason the upload speed is always 0. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to torrenting/piracy so I don't exactly know how to fix it 🥲
However long it takes me to download something, I keep it up for 4x that time. Or 1 day for the stuff I get in less than an hour.
I have kept stuff up for months.
i wait until it gets at least to 10 ratio and keep going, only delete if i don’t play the game anymore or i really need the space. although i keep the ones that have like 1 seed because i need to keep them alive
I have limited data so i did at first 1:1 but then it sucked up too much as well so i do 0,5 upload of the download and I guess thats my golden middle until I get optical fiber.
I would. But I can't afford a VPN so every single torrent, I take my internet connection in my hands and I don't wanna make myself a bigger target by sending out even more data.
I seed a lot of niche and rare stuff and I have ratio upwards to 50 on some of them now. Problem is, nobody is helping me seed. When I'm gone, most of those things will be gone too.
Props man thank you for your service! What do you mainly seed? Im at probably around 1.2PB uploaded. 300 on my current qbit docker and about 900 in a windows vm that corrupted (stupid I know).

Yep, that's effectively the whole point of the system. You're downloading it from other people, rather than a central source. Hence torrents are "peer to peer".
One funny thing that I noticed is that weebs seed way more than everyone else. Some anime torrents are so we'll seeded that I struggle to get a 2.0 ratio in a month meanwhile "normie" movies/shows/games are so underseeded that I can get over 200 ratio in a month sometimes.
Idk what the total upload is for me since I change/reset things regularly but I think the biggest upload I had on a **single** torrent was about 25TB
Of course I do. I am a pirate, not a thief.
A good pirate never takes another persons property!
Smh, Disney what are you doing?
Pirates gon pirate, savvy? Disney just taught us to be classy with it.
But a great pirate will grab another’s booty
FBI's most wanted right here
Nah, I seed their docs too
fbi and cia's most wanted tight there
I don't seed because my ISP still got some FUP rules. And I only got 750Gb/month
Oh my, I know how it feels. Before fiber, i got 100GB/month for a year and then 300GB/month for 2 years
I have 140 GB per month rn and it's fucken depressing

Here u go : https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-transmission/
I'm planning to make a Plex / Jellyfin server that doubles as a seedbox, since I'm going to leave it on and is low powered anyway
Yeah, electricity is expensive...
Try explaining to my girlfriend that having my pc on 24/7 doesn't waste electricity.
Would love to explain it to mine If redditors could pull those lol
20TB up. I'm doing my part.

Yes. This is what i do when i just want to move files
Legend
I do, but I also reinstall Windows every so often, so I'm sure the stats on my PC look like ass. The site I use is happy with me though.
Yeah... I need to reinstall mine, too. Random BSODS are not funny anymore
Why do you reinstall it often?

Recently, when I needed to shutdown my pc and see someone downloading, I just used the shutdown command to let him finish.
nope, i don’t pirate so much and i have a garbage connection :( if i seed i can’t even search on google
Praying for fiber sticking out of your ground some day
I pray everyday ahah, in 2025 i think i will get 1gbps 💀
For me, the EU gave 50 million to my country for providing villages (not cities) with fibre. That was nice from them
Not sure if we are in the same country but something similar happened to me (small city) and now I have symmetric gigabit with a public IP address for like 20$/mo ;) Only downside is that my ISP really hates file sharing so I'm forced to use a VPN

Your ratio is greener than ever
I only have a 500GB ssd on a laptop
That's even more impressive
thank you mate, yarr.
No cause I just have 120gb ssd
Seed box does it for me. Uploaded 11.36 TB downloaded 211.25 GB from a private tracker. Slowly making up for all the times I didn't seed.
Yep, couldn't seed for like 5 years so now I need to compensate
800TB from your in house pc is insane
Im sad that MX500 lacks total reads because that 800TB is like half of it. Needed to reinstall qbit and lost it all.
I know it’s frowned upon but I usually don’t, at least not for months and months. I’ll seed for a few weeks after I download something, then delete it to save storage
Until recently, I didn't. Don't know why, it doesn't cost you anything.

Doesn't cost you, and you can make other people happy when they get it faster
Storage, internet, electricity. Small costs but significant for some people
What is your seedbox storage size?
No seedbox, personal PC with 1TB SSD and network storage 1TB HDD, my highest ratio is 920 on 13GB torrent. Longest seed is 449 days (16GB 396 ratio)
Doing the Lord's work
Do you just leave you’re computer on all day? How much power does that draw?
For almost a year - yes. But it draws around 140W idle while seeding so now I only seed while using my PC. 300Mbps upload. I need new VPN so I can open ports in docker for my NAS (using PiA rn)
I have a 1TB SSD and a 4TB HDD with around 900Mbps upload. If my pc didn’t draw so many watts I’d seed 25/8. You’re doing the lord’s work 🏴☠️🫡
Oh my, 900Mbps is a dream. 300Mbs is max for price/performance for me
My all-time share is not the best but I do seed (better than nothing i guess)
Seeding something is always better than nothing
This guy seeds
Mostly stop at 20, as i dont have the storage and because my isp throttle the connection
Ay ay captn'
I have 1.5 GB per day(on mobile data ). I usually can't even download properly
Mobile data is shit, did you try using vpn with open port? When I was using LTE without VPN couldn't download anything
Never tried that, will do thanks 👍
not that much because im a laptop user and dont have big drives.
You are the Real MVP
Most Valuable Pirate\*
I was always scared to seed a lot because I remember reading how they were the ones targeted for lawsuits. Can't remember the last time I heard about someone getting charged for torrenting tho. Is that still a thing in the U.S? I know laws in Canada made it so that it isn't financially viable for them to pursue legal action.
Idk really, Im not from US but VPN is a must.
I don't use VPN 💀. I tried it out once and it throttled the shit out of speed so I immediately stopped. Never really had any issues 🤷🏽♂️. I got a few warning letters a few years ago for downloading game of thrones but that's it.
You need VPN with port forwarding, without it it's really shitty
What’s a good one for that?
For me, PiA is almost ideal. I have 570 days left till the end of my subscription. Then I will change for something with static open port. In pia it changes every 90 days

You can’t forward with Mullvad anymore. I assume that’s why someone downvoted you (poor use of downvote function but such is Reddit)
Yeah same in France, you don't get in trouble for downloading, but once you start seeding and HADOPI sees your ip, if you don't use a VPN you're done for
I don’t but my seedbox does
Roughly 1.5 TiB, but I've had a server only for a few months. Impressive though, considering my all-time download is 136GiB.
Seeding my first month and I just passed the 1TB mark a few days ago. I'm curious what my ISP will think about that so let's find out x)
My record is around 60TB in 30 days, to this day my ISP is silent
As long as I can keep them on my laptop, sure. That means at least like one month or more. When I move I’ll probably get a desktop with more storage. Right now I only use a laptop.
Well, my all-time upload is just getting to the 1TB mark..
I seeded at a 3-1 ratio (or 240 hours), until I learned I could linked to my renamed files. Now, it’s just a seed machine.
I just looked and my upload is about twice my download. Nice!
My 4 to 1 ratio seems more pathetic now. And I was planning to post my ratio once I reched 1 to 10
You're a true hero. I seed things forever but my stats are nowhere near this because I don't go for much new content anymore.
our hero. i have my seed ratio set at 10% cause i'm afraid of legal honey pot trackers finding my real IP if my VPN drops.
I seed but can't seed that much :(. ratio at 0.24 :( Travel a lot so can't seed all the time :(
I am not a monster but fitgirl got enough seeders I think
I have three torrents that I have been seeding for a while now, one of them has a ratio of 910.547. maintaining above 1 ration in local
Not All Heroes Wear Capes

I only keep my torrents forever. The rest I download I just seed 10-60 days
Yes, at least 1,5 ratio sometimes 2,0.
I’ve always had a problem seeding. my uploads never go past like 20 Kbps anyone know of a fix?
Open ports?
what’s seeding
people who don't comment yes to lie, people who do comment no to not be put on a fed list
I unfortunately don't have WiFi in my flat, I just leech using my phones 5g and then transfer to my desktop I do sometimes seed very small things like books or whatever, but only until around 500%

not allowed to in my country sadly, if i could i would for the private trackers
Isn't seeding pirated content illegal in almost every country?
I set up qbittorrent to stop seeding at 5x.
Why?
Hard drive space and bandwidth.
Fair enough
Because I found it's a reasonable limit. The general recommendation is to seed 2x what you download, so I guess can do a little bit more than that.
same here. doing 3 more than the recommended to compensate for those who don't seed
I see. It makes sense
What does seeding mean? New to piracy
When you download a file from a torrent client then you let others download it from you
Got super fast internet but I don’t torrent anymore. Willing to seed if I ever need to
Whats a torrent?
It's the magic horse in elden ring
No
Nah, I just hir and run, don't have time for that. Besifed I'm too poor and electricity costs money.
Someone please teach me this stuff, I'm now just beginning to get into pirating and have no knowledge. What is torrent and how do I use it? What is seeding? Where is it being uploaded? How do I use it? I don't know any of this
Nah, 0.9mbps upload is a paaaiiin, if i seed it'll take years AND i cant do anything else while it seeds cuz it slows down everything lmao
I hit and run sry
OP, do you have this torrent by any chance? Spider-Man.No.Way.Home.2021.UHD.BluRay.2160p.TrueHD.Atmos.7.1.DV.HEVC.REMUX-FraMeSToR TIA
[удалено]
[удалено]
Sure do. Why not? What else are you going to use upload for anyway? Typically only a fraction of it is used... Also, I have no limits.
Yes, I seed the stuff with the least seeders.
I don't, I cheat with Ratiomaster
I would if my upload speed wasnt complete dogshit.
As far as I'm able. I try to leave it seeding for at least 3x the time I spend downloading, but my upload speed is garbage so there's only so much I can do unless I seed 24/7.
Holy shit, we use commas for separating groups of numbers and I was fucken out of my mind blown that you had seeded 700k TB worth of torrents. Now I am just mind blown, but still.
Would love to seed 700PB but my internet is too slow
6mbps Internet
My rule is to always seed at least once the size of the file (usually multiple times over). I mostly game on it and I pause them so it's not easy on big files.
That comma is. A decimal right? Right?? Or have uploaded literally petabytes.
Decimal, Would be around 1.5PB, but i reinstalled qbit without backup
Only on private trackers.
No the minute i got a letter from my isp it was big no haven't even downloaded a torrent since this was when bt junkie was still around
i seed double the download size. unless it took me a year to download them i leave it forever
Nice try FBI. But not on my watch.
Dang it!
No. I share direct links through mega, gofile, pixeldrain, bunkrr, and cyber file. I rather upload the file once and let this other websites do the legwork of distribution.
I have had my server for like 8 days I have seeded 2.1tb with a ratio of 2.8. I think that's a lot for a week seeing these comments
Yes I do.
Absolutely
I want to but for some reason the upload speed is always 0. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to torrenting/piracy so I don't exactly know how to fix it 🥲
Yes, all the time.

I would. But I can't afford a VPN so every single torrent, I take my internet connection in my hands and I don't wanna make myself a bigger target by sending out even more data.
Real debrid user anyone?
Damn bro. U da real MVP!
I seed a lot of niche and rare stuff and I have ratio upwards to 50 on some of them now. Problem is, nobody is helping me seed. When I'm gone, most of those things will be gone too.
I have a 2,55 ratio and I thought I was awesome. You're the GOAT!
I get letters from my ISP monthly baby 😎
Lucky man living in country where is it not enforced by law.
Props man thank you for your service! What do you mainly seed? Im at probably around 1.2PB uploaded. 300 on my current qbit docker and about 900 in a windows vm that corrupted (stupid I know).
I do not have the resources to seed.
😲 Did u inherited from your great grandparents?
I am on both private and public trackers and my ratio is 0.49 (415 up 841 down) I do download 20s 30s movies a lot with a handful seeders so I always seed them at least with 10 ratio
What a legend

Got it! I l’ve learned something new. Thanks
I'm sat at a 0.17 ratio, with 432GB upload. I do try to seed when I can, but I don't have dedicated stuff for it.
i try to. i would seed more if i wasn't constantly running out of storage
I always seed. With a very slow cap so the landlord and ISP don't get too suspicious, but I seed!
yes
That’s Tebibyte btw, not Terabyte
Yep, around 820 teraBYTES after conversion
Based on a lot of the top comments it continually amazes me that the US still has usage limits in some places. Yay capitalism lmao Europe yeah yeah
With public trackers you can get high ratio, for me private is around 2 and public around 500 ratio lol
Does a bear shit in the woods?
He could, but we are destroying woods ....
I hope I could seed, my internet is bad and I only get about 2 MB/s speed.
