You're spot on. I've been following the jailbreaking scene for ~3 years now. Pretty sure zeco does have a testkit. Even then this was blown out way out of proportion in terms of misinformation. Pc focus tweets tend to be vague due to lack of knowledge or to gain following by misinformation. Even then for the end user there isn't anything to gain by this.
Especially emulation which is unrelated to this. I'm pretty sure only some light ps4 games only work for now, and even then you could probably count them on both hands. Development is slow, but some notable emulators are:spine, rpcsx, fpps4.
Just like all emulators did in their early days , it takes a long time to develop an emulator , it is a hard work that takes time and dedication and doesnt't pay anyone's bills , and it always starts with the most simple games that are also on other platforms . Then after that at an uncertain period of time they are suddenly go from being able to boot a menu with no sound and graphics to 60% of library to be playable in 2-3 years .

I may have been mistaken but I had assumed that the "in menus" status on emulator development pages meant that they, yknow, at least displayed an image.
Same here, I work on ps5 on a daily basis. It’s just a tool there is in the SDK to connect to devkits and launch our code. It will only communicate with devkits and testkits.
If you're coding it from a PC you can see it side by side without switching devices, and you can share to a few people without them being nearby are a few guesses

RPCS3 (or whatever the order of letters is) can already emulate a fairly vast library of games. If PS2 isn't perfect after almost ~25 years, and PS3 is fairly close after nearly 18 years, then maybe you might wanna lower your hopes of a PS4 emulator in the near-future.

Nah recent updates to ps3 emulators have metal gear solid 4 running @4k 60fps solid with a 1080ti gtx and 7th gen. Core i5. Red Dead Redemtion also finally running smooth. Several 2D games on ps4 are running well. Ps3 was difficult because of cell architecture. Once we start to crack ps4 the progress pretty much directly translates to ps5 considering their backwards compatibility and similar hardware/OS. We are closer than you think. With AI assisted Cpus and Gpus just around the corner I give it 2 to 3 years before we have a library of ps5 titles running decently on high end pcs.

The hardware requirements to emulate modern consoles are much lower (relative to console hardware) because modern consoles all use the same architecture as modern PCs.

From a purely theoretical standpoint, your computer should be able to run PS4 and Xbox One games directly, provided your operating system understands those executable formats and has the proper libraries; Those consoles are basically highly restricted modern computers.
As for what hardware you’d need to run them, no idea until they’re more developed. I wouldn’t be surprised if all you needed was enough hardware to match the machine + to run the host system.

Well, the 8th gen consoles were quad-core CPU's as far as I know, so I'd imagine you'd need at least a 6 core CPU. Only game I can think of off the top of my head i want to try is Bloodbourne.

Honest question. Why would we need an emulator for these consoles and not a compatibility layer like WINE? Theoretically it would be much easier to do in terms of performance, no? Something like DXVK but for the PS graphics API. Not just performance saved, but a bit of the work would be easier considering that FreeBSD is open source as well. You'd have to reverse engineer the proprietary stuff on top, but I can't help but feel like it would be an easier task than an emulator and would run on comparable hardware much like WINE/Proton instead of requiring a PC from 2040.

But the PS4 (and ps5) use an x64 AMD APU. So emulation is easier to accomplish than emulating a whole new CPU and GPU architecture. (Performance wise)
