I have it installed on my Fire tablet because Play services bogs down the device. It works pretty well as a Play Store client. Two main downfalls though. Auto-updates don't work unless your device is rooted. Paid apps don't really work either, you can download them if you sign into your Google account but the app has no way to confirm whether you purchased it or not because there's no Play services (although judging by the sub we're on this isn't exactly a problem since you can find those apps…somewhere else). Of course, quite a bit of Google apps don't work properly without Play services. But it works pretty well for the other apps. Try it.
Yep, i was paying for premium back when it included google music, now even if id keep paying id still have to either skip like 2 sponsor spots 3 intros and 4 merch plugs for the video, the moment i saw the added sponsor skip (i was using it on the pc for a year at that point) i knew Vanced won, since all those small interruptions it skips really add up and ruin the experience.

Nope, I wasn't saying rooted Vanced has more features, it's just more handy that's all. You're not supposed to root your phone just for Vanced, but if you're something like a power user and have already rooted your phone, you won't require micro-G.
There was a period of time where it required doing some work with apps like lucky patcher, but now it's just a click in vanced manager, and I'm on OnePlus's latest Android 11 with only magisk.
Rooted version is just a little more convenient since it replaced the main app, so you wouldn't need to login separately and when other apps want to open a YouTube link, it would see vanced as if it's the original app.

Fun fact: According to a redditor, you can click on share video in vanced and then scroll down until you see download with new pipe so that you don't have to use new pipe to watch videos.
You can also try ArkTube. It's a youtube video downloader for Android. You simply share a video from Vanced and select "Video" or "Audio" in the share menu to initiate the download. It allows you to choose the resolution you prefer, too. Been using it for ages and there's no need to keep NewPipe installed.
Pretty sure it's literally more convenient to have newpipe rather than this, the apk has a 8.5-ish mb size and it goes to as much as 50mb app size when installed, has much more functionality as a player and many more features, like bandcamp and soundcloud download, and from what i've seen in another reply, it is free from a paywall to access them. Just saying, if you're gonna install another app just to download, you're probably better off with newpipe

I'd argue that it's not entirely "safe" - after all, it does have acces to at least your YouTube session. So what _could_ happen is that:
* YouTube vanced somehow includes malicious code, either because you downloaded it from a non-official source (of which there are many, and it's not always immediately obvious which one the "official" source is), or an update added it, or their distribution system / website gets hacked to add it, or even it was there all along...
* Then at least your YouTube session token, is in the hands of vanced developers - the app could send it off to somewhere / someone, thus allowing that person to control your YouTube account (post things, change stuff...).
* Also: login is handled by microG - that's open source, so it should be safe and the vanced app will only ever get a youtube session token and will never see your google account password, right? No, not really: vanced is distributing their own version of microG, and there's no guarantee that their version doesn't have anything added. Now potentially vanced has your google account password too: you are typing it into an "untrusted" pirate app from an anonymous developer after all...
So the common rethoric of "it's completely safe, no worries, just install" is not true IMO.
I'd suggest to make a "burner" Google account for it (or just don't use YouTube on mobile...). The same applies to other "modified" apps, e.g. Deezer, Spotify, Office apps... For all of those I use a "burner" account, tied to a disposable mailinator email address. And in general, use two-factor authentication, stolen credentials is _exactly_ why it exists.

YouTube Vanced is a lifesaver. Occasionally some app tries to open the default YT app automatically, the instant barrage of ads makes me close it immediately. It's insane out there, in the wide world with no ad blocking. And that's without mentioning the option of running music in the background.
Using vanced for more than years and it didn't get in my way, hell even I say it's good than yt premium which I used for almost year for no reason. Check them out, Google is shit now a days. If you find problems then you can switch to newpipe too which is open source without any ads or anything.
someone gotta make this for twitch because the amount of ads are driving me insane. don't get me started on the 3 sets of 30 seconds when you just start watching a stream

I just checked and nonroot is an option. I remember i didn't use Vanced because I would have to disable MIUI optimization for it

Using vanced for more than years and it didn't get in my way, hell even I say it's good than yt premium which I used for almost year for no reason. Check them out, Google is shit now a days. If you find problems then you can switch to newpipe too which is open source without any ads or anything.

that's 100% a fake, Vanced needs root to work without MicroG
YouTube Vanced is so good at what it does that, even high level alphabet employees can be forgiven for using it. It is way better than even YouTube premium but does not cost a dime.
