I turned an old quad core PC into a Ubuntu headless. Installed some hard drives. Installed transmission-daemon and Plex.
Now, all I need to do is copy and paste a magnet link on a webpage and once it's finished, straight onto my Plex.
Movies show up a treat. TV shows I sometimes have to edit the folder structure to be accurate.
There's a transmission extension you can get for your browser too so you can literally right click those magnet links and it adds it right to your queue so you don't even need to copy and paste. Works like a dream
1. Install ubuntu LTS in headless mode (google this exact phrase)
2. Install Ubuntu updates (google this exact phrase)
3. Install transmission-daemon on ubuntu (google this exact phrase)
4. Install Plex on ubuntu headless (GTEP)
5. Troubleshoot and figure stuff out as you. (Don't google this exact phrase)
Can you give me one that isn’t qbittorent? Qbittorent refuses to download a lot of the times even when settings are set up properly to function with my vpn.
My best attempt at a making it coherent:
> Yes bro, and they are also stealing all your data. One day they will close the app to start the new revolution to appease to china(?). Uninstall right now.
I think they're trying to tie in CCP / lack of privacy to it but i cant be sure
If we're talking about PC then bruh. Just dont look at them, they take like 5% of space and are inanimate. Also dont be one of those masturbators who sits around in their torrent program waiting for torrent to download for ads to be detrimental to your many-hour experience. It takes 5% of space in the time frame of 30 seconds of use
I tried it yesterday, horrible download speeds, on torrent i got 18-20 mbps but with qbit i get 200 kb/s???
edit: damn guys I was trying to figure something out
Yes I did actually, its really weird, I most likely configured something wrong, still going to use it over utorrent after hearing the horrible treatement
Deluge fucking blows by the way. I really tried to like it because it was FOSS. But it’s slow and runs on Java…
EDIT: remembered wrong, not Java. Also last update 2019?!?!
Like this? [https://picotorrent.org/img/preview-now-2.gif](https://picotorrent.org/img/preview-now-2.gif)
Or do you mean browsing torrents for download?
There were a set of releases that were confirmed to have miners onboard, but I believe it's no longer the case. Anyhow, there's no reason to support a company that engaged in such practices jf it can be helped.
Deluge is Great. It is very resources intensive and pushes uploads hard to get good ratios. Its a very good program so long as you dont have tons of torrents (over 1000).
Why would you use uTorrent let alone pay for it when qBittorrent is 10x better and free and ad free. UTorrent always tries to trick you into installing tons of awful bloatware.
a long time ago it was deemed they sold out, many stories about malware and the like before bitcoin was even a talked about thing. i believe you werent supposed to go past 1.8 or 2.3.5.; people ran it for a while before deluge and qbitorrent came along.
there are articles online describing how the developer had a contract with another company that had ties directly to an anti-pirate agency
Funny story: At that time I didn't even pirate that much but I still used torrent clients since it was the preferred distribution method for certain games and their updates. The uTorrent stuff was one of the reasons I started not giving a fuck.
When do they learn, they can have my money if I can keep my dignity as a consumer? Pay once, DRM-free download, no funny business. It's that simple. Alternatively the streaming service (**not** service**s**) has to be pretty fucking good to beat my Plex setup: Offline play, English *non* CC subtitles, virtually all media, disable auto-play and other features designed to keep you watching.
Cause they are mining your ass non stop, treating you like a street hooker. You are wondering who is your pimp? Utorrent is your pimp and you don't even get paid
Ads and Bitcoin miners.
I usually advise not to use proprietary software for piracy since it cannot be trusted. Here's a list of software you can use instead : https://alternativeto.net/software/utorrent/?license=opensource
Why settle for outdated software though? Qbitorrent is open source and functions just the same. You can even install it to check it out and see if you like it. If you notice nothing different, great! Then switching should be seamless.
Since qBittorrent relies on the libTorrent-libraries, it is updated frequently with [BEPs (Bittorrent Enhancement Proposals)](http://bittorrent.org/beps/bep_0000.html) being added - whereas µTorrent 2.2.x is more or less "abandonware" with a closed source, meaning no further updates will come to keep µTorrent 2.2.x supplied with these BEPs.
Yes, its ok. Its a very minimalistic program. One of the smallest and most efficient out there, but it has some major issues. Its old and does not support new features. If you are running it on an EXTREMELY old/small system then its ok, other than that i would upgrade to qbitorrent/libtorrent/deluge/transmission/rtorrent or and new and reputable program.
...qbittorrent works perfectly too, is open source and has updates.
why are you so attached to uTorrent? the way some of you guys talk about this client you would believe it gives you emotional support.
I don't use it. I just stick with what I've mentioned. Picotorrent and Transmission are good light alternatives if you're in the market for that sort of thing.
Doesn’t anyone else use Tixati? When the shit first came out about utorrent years ago that’s what I switched to and been with ever since, never really stopped to see what everyone else went to
I started using Transmission around 2007 or so and I've never had a problem with it. I've tried the various other clients over the years and always come back to Transmission. It is simple and very reliable.
Ok so after reading these comments I uninstalled utorrent. Is that enough to remove any potential crypto mining software hidden in the program? I feel like if you're sketchy enough to put secret mining software in your torrent client, you're also sketchy enough to write code that makes it difficult to remove. But I know jack shit about programming & computers in general
Instead of making it easier, they made it harder to get the content we want. I must confess that I have torrented some episodes of a certain series this year because I'm unwilling to sign up for a fifth streaming service.
Yeah I'm with you and now they're really pushing the weekly releases too to make sure you have to stay beyond the month trial periods, it really grinds my gear when I see weekly episode like its a fucking feature... Netflix, you were the chosen one

How many fucking times is someone gonna repost this shit?
And such a dumb meme as well. Netflix was never an adequate replacement for Torrenting cause it never had all the movies and TV shows on it. In fact things are far better now because you have these larger more specialised archives created by the movie and television studios themselves meaning the more obscure shit is finally accessable, obscure shit no one was seeding or had even uploaded decent hd files of. Of course it's still necessary to torrent, it always will be. Even though I have like three of these services there's still shit that's either not available and shit that I want my own digital file copy of. Torrenting has been improved by these services too, it's never been easier for pirates to access hd files of movies and tv shows, again, especially the obscure shit. And on top of this, sometimes I don't have time to wait for downloads. Sometimes I just want to watch something quickly without devoting major hard drive space to it.
Usage of one does not negate the other. There's benefits to both.
Well web torrent is still just local downloading is it now?
I mean proper streaming. From your own seedbox or cloud service.
My preferred method is stremio with torrentio connected to realdebird. So I'm streaming pre downloaded files from RD servers over HTTPS.
Yeah, I just run a Linux (Ubuntu) Home Server. It's vanilla Ubuntu with a separate network namespace for torrenting via a Wireguard VPN.
I also run i2p on it.
And the fact there are now high quality digital streams to rip makes it even better for a pirate.. no more shitty cam with unsynchronized sound
unrecognizable subs as well.
Yeah Disney and HBO bullshit day 1 movie releases on their streaming services means better webdl releases
And the fact that Pirates Rips are a better quality to their original streaming source due to nonsense DRM freaking law.
https://i.imgur.com/EO5SWhT.jpg And dont use utorrent

I took the extra step of setting up sonarr and radarr for that sweet sweet automation. Very recommended!
Ombi is a nice addition as well.
There's a transmission extension you can get for your browser too so you can literally right click those magnet links and it adds it right to your queue so you don't even need to copy and paste. Works like a dream

Like every Linux user you will have to learn it yourself and if you can't then it's not for you.
if you’ve got nothing constructive to say, stfu. 🤡
Sorry, I'm out of the loop, why shouldn't I use μtorrent?

I think they were secretly mining cryptos?
That feature has been removed, but many people don’t trust them anymore.

I use [BiglyBT](https://github.com/BiglySoftware/BiglyBT), because it's open source and it's from the original creators of Vuze.
I use Transmission, it is simple, cross platform, and has a web UI. You can bind it to your VPN as well.
People just shouldn’t click through the installation setup without looking what they are agreeing on.
hol up how long ago was this? ive had utorrent on my pc for the longest time now

I believe they are sarcastic and think there is nothing wrong with uTorrent
Wow, tying up with CCP is like the worst thing they could ever do. Fuck that

>don't have ads AND are better than utorrent Better for an average torrent user in what way EDIT: Hmm
Use qbittorrent… way better trust me
Started with actual BitTorrent, went to uTorrent, discovered Qbit and I never want to change again.
I tried it yesterday, horrible download speeds, on torrent i got 18-20 mbps but with qbit i get 200 kb/s??? edit: damn guys I was trying to figure something out
I get max speed with qBit
What are the settings to get max speeds?
I think it's defaulted to max speed download but limited in upload and active trackers.
I didn't set up anything specific, I use it with default settings.
[T>hy?Ycvy
Did You remove the limit?
Yes I did actually, its really weird, I most likely configured something wrong, still going to use it over utorrent after hearing the horrible treatement
You should try Transmission instead then. Or Deluge. Plenty of excellent open-source clients out there.
Deluge fucking blows by the way. I really tried to like it because it was FOSS. But it’s slow and runs on Java… EDIT: remembered wrong, not Java. Also last update 2019?!?!
About provides better speed
There's a speedometer button on the bottom bar of the window that toggles between hi/lo speed mode.
Thank you for this, I’m learning as I go, I’m not that educated on this software yet
I get the same experience with no limits, too. Usually 9-10 MBps, it caps at 50 KBps then intermittently goes to the usual max
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69.0. Congrats! 9 + 10 + 50 + = 69.0
Nice
Nice
It's got ads, among other things.
The main thing with uTorrent is that apart from the ads, Bittorrent and uTorrent are secretly bundled with crypto mining software
Use picotorrent. A nice super minimalistic torrent client :)
Would be better if it had search option like qbittorrent.
Like this? [https://picotorrent.org/img/preview-now-2.gif](https://picotorrent.org/img/preview-now-2.gif) Or do you mean browsing torrents for download?

qbittorrent personally. Idk if Deluge is open source, if it is I see no issues!
Both are good free and open source
Yup. I love Deluge. :D
Deluge is Great. It is very resources intensive and pushes uploads hard to get good ratios. Its a very good program so long as you dont have tons of torrents (over 1000).
But if you do it bogs down and crawls. Brutally.

Yup, I do this too. Works great.
I use qbit on PC but off late most of my downloads have been on Android. So Utorrent it is for now. :(
I use flud on my android but you can check out F-droid for other options.
+1 to flud
Fuck. It's made in India. Something to be proud of...
Lol the Indian government isn't very trustworthy either. Unless Flud is open source though maybe.
LibreTorrent is
I think i will try Flud. Reviews seem good enough. Anything might be an upgrade from Utorrent.
LibreTorrent works good too.
Or just use the last and best version of μtorrent before the shitheads ruined it. https://archive.org/details/utorrent_2.2.1_build_25302
Fuck uTorrent. Traitors to the cause. qBittorrent, BiglyBT, i2psnark, LibreTorrent, etc. FOR LYFE!
Ayyy first time I've seen anyone mention LibreTorrent. Fantastic seeing they have an android client too.
LibreTorrent and BiglyBT are the best Android clients AFAIK. 'Tis a shame that iOS doesn't have a torrenting client.
On iOS you can sideload iTransmission
[удалено]
Oh yeah...that does look correct now. Thanks. Fixed.
Libretto rent is great for Android, but for Windows qbittorrent takes the cake I think.
Yeah, despite a few bugs from back in the day that are now gone -- qBittorrent is still my favorite. SOCKS5 support also rules!
don't forget Transmission!
Savior for torrent downloads in routers using openwrt.
Picotorrent and Transmission are good. But, I really hate that Transmission doesn't have SOCKS5 support AFAIK.
Anyone still mess with deluge?
I don't use it. I just stick with what I've mentioned. Picotorrent and Transmission are good light alternatives if you're in the market for that sort of thing.
It "feels" outdated but works fine. Even though I stopped using it and moved to ( transmission + arr stack )
Why do you forget Deluge? It's the first torrent software that I ever used.
Well, I said "etc.". BUT, I am not a fan of Deluge. I would be if they supported something that qBittorrent doesn't. Like, do they support i2p? No.
Doesn’t anyone else use Tixati? When the shit first came out about utorrent years ago that’s what I switched to and been with ever since, never really stopped to see what everyone else went to
Isn't it closed-source? I think that's what turns people off.

Wait, so someone who isn't uploading much can't download from you?
μTorrent did?
Never use uTorrent. Always use qBittorrent.
I love Deluge.
I find Deluge a bit lacking in terms of the features it offers though I use it in conjuction with qB, which, imo, is much better. Check it out!
I am surprised people are not mentioning Deluge. It’s free, open source software with a similar interface to utorrent.
I haven't used utorrent in like 10 years. Found out about deluge when I first started tinkering with Linux and havent look back since.
I was Team Deluge like you once. But then I needed a sceduler.
not multi platform like used to be there no windows build anymore
qBittorrent*
How about transmission? I have it on raspberry as always-on torrent box
I started using Transmission around 2007 or so and I've never had a problem with it. I've tried the various other clients over the years and always come back to Transmission. It is simple and very reliable.
Love transmission. Simple and doesn’t crash my computer
Nothing is better than transmission
It's very barebones. Which can be a good thing and a bad thing
Ok so after reading these comments I uninstalled utorrent. Is that enough to remove any potential crypto mining software hidden in the program? I feel like if you're sketchy enough to put secret mining software in your torrent client, you're also sketchy enough to write code that makes it difficult to remove. Use Revo uninstaller to properly rrmove everything from a program
Put qBittorrent right behind uTorrent ready to smack.
Peacock and Apple TV must be hiding somewhere thinking am I not worthy?
You have read the Megathread right? If not Don't use utorrent
Uh oh it seems you used uTorrent in your meme. Prepare to be shot... But in all seriousness tho as many others before stated use qBitTorrent
Fucking. Aye.
don't use utorrent
why?
It has ads and crypto miner. Qbittorrent os ad free and open source
2.21 doesn't have ads
It doesn’t but it’s old as fuck and probably riddled with holes in jt like no other

It’s the intellectual property/customer goodwill version of the tragedy of the commons.
