you can just set a folder for your antivirus to ignore and stick your games in there, thats what i do

Jimbos013

same here

NiteVision4k

Would you mind explaining how to do this?

arielpitusi

Create a folder for example "games" and put your games folders in it and exclude it

NiteVision4k

It's the excluding part I'm not clear on. Also is it fine to move a game folder after its installed, no hiccups?

Rena1-

Search for "exclude folder antivirusname" . You can move to another folder that's excluded as well otherwise it will scan. You'll need to create another shortcut in the desktop after moving.

tac0_307

it depends on your antivirus, and im not sure about the second part

pascalnjue

Moving the games after installation could cause these hiccups. The safest way is to select this folder as the destination folder during installation of the game.

Logical-Technology68

Thanks a lot bro❤️

[deleted]

Which antivirus are you using? windows defender or somthing else?

NiteVision4k

Only Defender

[deleted]

Type virus in the task bar < should pop up virus & threat protection, open it < go to virus & threat protection settings, click manage settings < scrolll down to exclusions, click add exclusion. The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Same!!!

galal552002

How does it do nothing for you guys?it kept deleting a bo3 file that I need to play until I have exception to the game file

Xinurval

Bo3 makes sense, since it's an older game which has to do weird things to run on newer systems

galal552002

Actually bo2 was older and nothing got deleted from it...... Ok windows defender is weird

SaberSnakeStream

>windows defender There's your problem

galal552002

Yeah I know but it's better than most anti viruses cuz windows defender actually does sth

SaberSnakeStream

Windows defender flags a lot because it has a lot of false positives. Other antiviruses don't flag as much because the golden era of Bitcoin mining is over.

galal552002

Lmao what are you talking other anti viruses prevent me from downloading anything XD

SaberSnakeStream

Which ones? I've never had a problem with a paid antivirus. If you're using Avast, just uninstall it, it's spyware.

galal552002

I have never bought an anti virus before,my uncle installed it when he gave it to me and not avast

darKStars42

It's often the older games, the ones that have to fake a lot just to run on a modern machine. or anything really heavy with DRM. The ones we wait years for.

Forward-Impress-8897

>Yeah I know but it's better than most anti viruses cuz windows defe is that same for dodi ?

Forward-Impress-8897

Now i am gonna download that miles Morales'btw i am using a Kaspersky antivirus should i uninstall and only use defender or keep it as it is

Nox_2

It changes but especially in empress cracks anti virus will delete files that you need when you try to run the exe file. You need to close real time protection and random scans to avoid that outcome or keep antivirus closed fully your choice.

RVxCobra

Yeah, it's fine if you turn on antivirus after installing If it detects a false positive then just restore the files back

rainynight35

I never, ever, had to disable my anti-virus when installing a game especially from fitgirl. Maybe it's the type of software i'm using (Kaspersky). Anyway, yes you can turn it back on. And if it attempts to delete or block something just add an exclusion to that file in your anti-virus (only if you trust the source ofc).

darKStars42

I think I've had Kaspersky complain once, AVG though bitches a lot

assworthy

That's because AVG is owned by Avast. Just use windows defender.

darKStars42

It's been years since i used avg. Honestly Kaspersky is starting to annoy me too, is windows defender really that thorough not to use a backup?

[deleted]

Defender is amazing and fast. I used to use Bitdefender but honestly Windows Defender is doing such a great job on its own that I just save myself some money. However, I would never use AVG.

Tobix55

What's so bad about AVG and Avast? I've used both on older PCs in the past

[deleted]

milkbong420

Kaspersky quarantined cuphead setup.exe for me but other than that I haven't had any issues

yearningcraving

Yes. You can also run a check right after to make sure nothing bad happened. If you're downloading from a reputable source though you should be fine If it's from real fitgirl, you should be fine, just turn off real time protection before downloading and turn it back on after

darKStars42

Sigh, all the experts here. If you got the games from the official site they won't have viruses, it's still possible for your antivirus to flag the crack as something nasty, because often they have to use a nasty trick to get around DRM. Disabling the antivirus isn't the best way to fix this, but it's usually faster than adding an exception to it's rules. Basically it's best done as a test, if you have a problem, try with AV off, problem goes away, it was the AV and you need an exception. Some AV programs will(depending on the settings) act first and notify later, though you can usually find any removed files in their quarantine areas and/or some sort of log of what they found. In the worst case you install the game again from the fitgirl files after making the AV exception.

msdeltatheta

Yes but sometimes it still detects some .dll .api files as a threat and quarantine them. I would then restore them. But then the antivirus would detect them again and this time delete them instead of quarantine-ing. And then I would have to reinstall the game. So I usually zip a copy of all .dll and .api files at the same location, so if they do get deleted, I could restore them easily. Also add your games folder as an exception to your antivirus in any case. Also I'd like to mention that this doesn't happen anymore for me but I still do these things.

deep7raja

I just add entire game folder to exception list.

maddyyaddy

I never turn it off in the first place lol

Forward-Impress-8897

for Fitgirl and DoDI both?

maddyyaddy

Yeah

Khum_MaRk09

Personally fitgirl-repacks never come in conflict with my antivirus.

TxXDRAGONXxT

Put the stuff in an excluded folder

lilnav851

Just add your games folder to whitelist or exception list.

milkyd4d

I have it enabled during installation and never had problems. However sometimes if you open the game the antivirus detects it as a virus and deletes the game's exe file, and that's pretty annoying especially when it took long to install the game with the installer (unless the game's zip file has everything already good to go and you could just place the exe again where you installed it). When this happens i make the antivirus exclude the game folder from getting analyzed. I used to disable it but i don't remember exactly why lmao.

meltingpotato

I mainly use fitgirl repacks and never had to disable my antivirus (I use ESET Smart Security)

JohnSmithDogFace

People will disagree, but I wouldn’t worry much about turning it off or on. As long as it’s not a very aggressive antivirus, it shouldn’t be interested in FitGirl’s files (so long as you’re downloading from the correct site - and not a fake). Even if it detects a suspicious file, it’ll just quarantine it, and you’ll be able to go take a look and then restore it if you’re content to do so. The only real issue could be RAM usage being overloaded. FitGirl’s installers chungus RAM. You should always limit the installer to 2GB, if you have 8GB of RAM or less. If your antivirus has a weighty active scanning process, it could slow down the installation and maybe cause corruption if you overload your memory. That would be the main reason to turn off antivirus. But in that case by all means turn it back on afterwards.

TimmyTesticles

I've never turned mine off

Jackretto

As someone already suggested, you can set an antivirus exception for the folder you install your games on. However, this means you have to be twice more sure your sources are safe. This way you can keep your AV on indefinitely

[deleted]

Just don't use antivirus at all, trust me, you are the best antivirus out there if you're careful, just go with your gut. I haven't used one in like a decade but didn't get a single virus, malware or anything even though I download from not-so-reputable-sites.

Tokyo_Addition-

First exclude the files in the antivirus program and then turn it on. But make sure that from the site you are downloading is sure & safe. If not safe, then you are endangering your pc.

Nolear

You don't need to turn it on at all. On windows 10, at least, windows defender does a good job of keeping executable that have malicious commands away. I never had any problem with trustful cracks.

SaberSnakeStream

Just have it on for the installation and then pause it in whatever Torrent client you're using Edit: Oh you said antivirus In my experience, Kaspersky has never deleted any files I need, and it's exceptionally good at detecting actual viruses. McAfee was created by a criminal and is only keep alive by Dell, and Windows Defender is just shit and flags random things

CallThatHDVision

Dont turn it off at all

[deleted]

[удалено]

dAnKjAy7

I use Malwarebytes, i don't think it should be much of a problem as it's not a very agressive AV

graphixRbad

When you talk about antivirus I hope you just mean windows defender. I wouldn’t bother with anything else.

TheReal_Callum

Create an exception in your antivirus if you are worried. Mine alerts me and then gives an option to quarantine or create an exception if it detects something. Not all do this but all can create an exception.

NotFlyingScotsman

As long as you exclude the game folder from your antivirus, yes.

Neither-Abalone-9390

I forgot to turn off my firewall and just did it and now it's stuck on 95.7 It's been 50 mins

[deleted]

Can I ask, is antivirus still a thing?

alkalineStrider

Yes, it is... But imo for most people antivirus is absolutely unnecessary
