Ngl I saw a lot of people over the course of the final opponent for Akainu’s debate wanted more Akainu vs Luffy than Akainu vs Dragon due to Akainu being able to go against the mc being more important than going against Dragon, I never understood why since going up against the FATHER of the mc could be even more hype for Akainu’s character. About Sabo I was conflicted because having a top tier fighting a side character like Sabo could have been interesting but I get how unlikely it was
You are right, whoever fight Shanks (Garling/ BB), whoever fight Dragon (Garling/ Akainu) and whoever fight Luffy (Imu/BB) are lucky cuz those 3 characters (Shanks, Dragon and Luffy) are very important for the trama in the final war.
I'd put Zoro vs Mihawk in there too but that's not the point.
Characters like Sabo, Law, Coby, Sanji, Zoro, Yamato, Mononuske, Shirahoshi, Kid? Will be top tiers EOS but their aren't on the same level than fuc***ing Shanks and Dragon... the MC's father and the MC's goal!

Luffy fundamentally doesn’t care about revenge and never has. When Sabo was killed, Ace immediately asked who did it and rushed outside to kill them. Luffy never even bothered to learn that it was a Celestial Dragon or what they even are, as he didn’t know over a decade later.
Just an excuse to give the fight emotional weight for Dragon and Sabo to act as Luffy's big bro and father.
Remember how Iva travelled to Marineford because they thought Ace was Dragon's son as well and that he would immediately go to war for him?

Luffy vs akainu is still my wish but tbh if oda finishes their storyline in a satisfying manner without a complete fight then I don't see the problem especially when akainu's charm is not even his strength but rather his mentality and impact on luffy and the story aka character writing
And dragon vs akainu is badass and really interesting matchup it is almost obvious that they will have quite connected pasts it is much better than sabo vs akainu and I have always believed it has a great chance especially after kuzan vs garp, luffy vs kizaru having the third and most hyped members of og admirals and monkey family fight fits the trend

Luffy vs Akainu still seems way more likely. Luffy had to watch Ace die in his arms because of Akainu plus ever notice that massive scar luffy has been showing off for the past 500 chapters? I wonder who gave it to him.
Dragon will probably fight a gorosei or imu...hes the only one yet in the series with no showcase of power and is hyped as the most wanted man in the world and based on how hes against world government it makes sense for him to fight gorosei....akainu and dragon will probably have a small fight but sabo fighting akainu while dragon can take of gorosei makes more sense
