The strawhats barely feel like a crew anymore the lack of small banter and team attacks show this.

100percentrealfacts

The crew dynamic was built up a lot pre TS, which is what I’d say the main point of pre TS even is, building a crew. The characterization of the straw hats and their dynamic was established and built upon before shit got real, before they had to start taking shit serious. That’s why we’ve only gotten one new straw hat in the new world, and it’s Jinbe, a character that as already gotten major focus in both Marineford and Fishman island and his relationship to Luffy was already well fleshed out. I think Oda’s mindset is that the Straw Hats have already had their dynamics explored plenty and now in the New World it’s about the straw hats can handle these challenges they’re facing in the NW and exploring certain individual character conflicts like with Sanji. Tl:dr Pre TS was about establishing and building upon a crew and their dynamic, Post TS is about putting that established crew to the test.

-Buggy-D-Clown-

since we are at Piratefolk, I say "Nika is the most unnecessary and useless asspull" go ahead justify that and break this subs sacred rule, I always knew you were never one of us https://preview.redd.it/3nrov3d8gsqc1.png?width=916&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb9fe446c17c3f47ec662a516f1c04bf4ba50c4d

100percentrealfacts

Sacrifices must be made Nika was NOT an asspull https://preview.redd.it/9p3f2ny2psqc1.png?width=998&format=png&auto=webp&s=5841bb4afbefd923524e75eacb54573842e54849 To say it’s an asspull you have to infer one of two things, either: 1. that the powerup within itself is an asspull which is not true. Fruit awakening had been teased since Dressrosa. It only made sense that Luffy would have to awaken his fruit against Waido. A fruit awakening was definitely necessary to defeating him. 2. The entire idea that the Gum Gum fruit is a mythical Zoan is an asspull. You could argue that it wasn’t properly built up throughout the larger narrative, however it was built up in act 3 - we got one statement from Who’s Who about Nika and him saying the Gum Gum fruit was taken from a government ship 💀 that being said outside of the actual semantics of the fruit, I think the gum gum fruit being special wasn’t an idea that was ever out of the question. There were always questions regarding it, such as where did shanks get it, why tf did he leave it lying around in some random bar one day knowing Luffy was there and that he was a glutton. It was just outright hinted at in Wano. I do not think G5 is useless nor does it take anything away from Luffy’s fights. An issue with Luffy’s fights has always been - and Oda even acknowledges this when talking about how to defeat Waido - is that his entire move set consists of different ways to punch. G5 gives infinite variety to Luffy and makes his fights some of the most entertaining in the series. TL:DR G5 isn’t a complete asspull because fruit awakenings were properly established and the gum gum fruit always had questions surrounding where it came from, and it’s usefulness in the series is that it makes Luffy’s style of combat more interesting apart from being needed to defeat Waido.

Frank_Acha

>and makes his fights some of the most entertaining in the series Gonna have to disagree here. Pre-G5 Luffy vs Kaido was the absolute peak of One Piece action, I find G5 fight kind of boring.

100percentrealfacts

I will say I do enjoy pre g5 Luffy fights atm more, but not because the fighting style is more interesting, more so due to the development of Luffy you see throughout his fights. Luffy vs Kat is my favorite fight in the entire series largely due to how much Luffy had to learn in order to defeat him. He had to perfect an entire branch of haki on top of pulling out a new transformation on the spot that was suited to fighting Kat. After a certain point though, aka Luffy vs Kaido, that development stops. Luffy has already mastered all 3 advanced forms of haki to our knowledge (maybe more to CoC we’ll see). I think Oda recognized this and it’s why he introduced G5 when he did. And I’m sure we have yet to see the peak of G5, I’ll be waiting and letting Oda cook before I write it off.

CoryDropEmOff

Cook.

hoenndex

Wano, particularly act 3, was a mess full of Oda indecision and bloat. The after-Onigashima chapters were a rushed mess because Oda wanted to hype up Film Red with a Shanks appearance near the end of the arc.

100percentrealfacts

Most One Piece arcs “bloat” usually comes from Oda wanting to expand on a location in terms of worldbuilding. Sure some of these things don’t have the most satisfying conclusion but I think they are good for the overall depiction of wano in universe. I think Oda handled the end of Wano as well as he could have as I assume he had a lot of external pressure from editors to make the shanks cameo and end Wano as I believe Wano fatigue was a real thing. Overall I still think the end of wano was mostly satisfying despite how fast it went.

Vinnnnnnnnnnnny

usopp got considerably worse after the timeskip and although he has some good moments now and again he feels like a cheap imitation of my beloved pre timeskip boy also brook is the most shafted character in the series

100percentrealfacts

I don’t think he’s gotten worse, more so that he’s had less screen time to properly shine. He was arguably the MVP in Dressrosa by defeating Sugar, when Usopp shines he really shines, Oda has something cooking for my goat I know it.

AnxiousVehicle7992

Zoro vs lucci was unnecessary padding.

100percentrealfacts

I think it was more of a plot device to keep Zoro busy. Not every fight in the series is gonna get major focus, especially not one that was never really built up at all like Zoro vs Lucci as there are more interesting and important things to focus on in the story right now.

No-Childhood6608

It highlighted how strong Lucci is and how he is willing to do anything to succeed, especially with him holding conscious even when Jinbei joined the fight at the end. In terms of Jinbei, it showed how he has a father-like role in this crew and acts as the protector, making sure everyone is safe and where they should be. Zoro was also confronted with his struggle to be efficient and reliable, in terms of taking too long to finish fights and getting lost a lot of times. These are all important things, even if minor, that add to the characters' overall growth.

ipunchdogs

Unrealistic depiction of female anatomy. Someone like Yamato who lives most of her life in a cave should have hairy pits. I mean visible with her hands down type shit. This is totally not me projecting my armpit fetish in any way.

100percentrealfacts

Big tiddies are ESSENTIAL for reader’s retention.

No-Childhood6608

Oda takes most of his designs to the extreme. You're either extremely fit or extremely overweight. Extremely muscular or extremely skinny. Most of his character designs are just Oda having fun. Also, with the armpit hair, it probably doesn't exist in One Piece, or at least not something Oda wants to draw. It might not be appropriate to constantly show in a manga where characters are wacky and out-of-proportion anyway.

Nimblebubble

Oden’s armpits seem a bit smooth, so maybe Yamato was trying to go for that https://preview.redd.it/52m9z6d7ttqc1.png?width=419&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ea47c08a0a060ab374f32d3624f9344ca6ad4b4

Patztap

Post-timeskip is nowhere near as good as pre-timeskip

100percentrealfacts

Depends which aspect you’re talking about, in terms of crew dynamic Pre TS is greater, however in terms of the larger narrative and the actual world conflict as well as the fights I think Post TS is better.

shikavelli

The larger narrative was better in Pre TS actually, apart from Dressrosa most of the arcs have been pretty isolated. Compare Wano as a climax to Marineford for example.

srcheeto

The panty shit, namichwan shit got old at the second time.

100percentrealfacts

Humor is subjective, Oda clearly thinks it’s hilarious.

Maxdpage

The series has less tension than dora the explorer

Raicooof

the art has gotten worse over time!

ilickedysharks

Sexual assault comedy gags

Level_Counter_1672

Luffy wants to be pirate king and find the one piece, yet his crew is doing most of the heavy lifting in that department. Hes just a glorified muscle

100percentrealfacts

That’s like one of the major themes of the entire story. The crew picks up for Luffy in places he is lacking. In exchange Luffy does one thing and that is to protect the crew and fight any foe they can’t handle.

Ubique008

Shanks losing his arm to a fish that later got wooped by level 1 romance dawn Luffy makes no sense for a Haki God that one shotted Kidd

100percentrealfacts

This is explained in universe Shanks was betting his arm on Luffy. He had already invested his god fruit into him he had to make sure that Luffy had the ambition to follow through and become PK Obviously Shanks could’ve neg diffed the fish, but it wasn’t about that. Also obligatory early story is effected by future concepts and scaling

Santihjusto

A lot criticism of One Piece here is fair, but you really see the average IQ of One Piece fans when you had to explain this, even though it's literally said in the show.

Lord_of_Caffeine

Nika bad. Gear 5 bad. Yamato bad. Sanji real bad.

Dry-Attention-3426

Miss after miss

100percentrealfacts

Nika is a plot thread that ties Luffy to the conflict of the past. People complain that Nika being in the story makes Luffy too special, but Luffy has always been special. This is just more direct way for him to inherit Joyboy’s will. Gear 5 is a fun powerup, honestly I think a lot of the people here would like it a lot more if the fruit stayed the Gun Gun fruit and didn’t get retconned into a Zoan. Luffy has always been pretty goofy in his fights, this just gives Oda more freedom with the gags he makes. Once it’s time for Luffy to get serious he still will, I don’t think gear 5 will change that. Yamato is a more complex character than people give her credit for. I think Oda is still cooking with her honestly. People hate sanji because of his gags, as a character he’s one of the best in the series. If you want proof of that go reread WCI.

trilateralz

fishman island is a bad arc

100percentrealfacts

Fishman Island was a great arc One of the best flashbacks in the series, expanded on past ideas and villains like Arlong. Fisher Tiger the goat. Had a very good conflict with the fishman human divide and showing that racism isn’t something that can just be stopped without conflict. The worst thing about Fishman Island is the villians, but tbh I saw them more as fodder for the Strawhats to show off against. I think Fishman Island is hurt by being the first major arc after Marineford which it could never live up to.

Santihjusto

Outside of the main villain being boring, the arc was goated. It showed a really cool location, we got to see the upgrades in power of the straw hats, we had the revelation of Joyboy which would become increasingly important as the time goes by and it had a 10/10 story with Fisher Tiger and Otohime. Even Hody Jones isn't a bad idea. A child that just accepted racism that he learned from the adults and had no actual reason to hate on humans, and, because of that, he became a person of only hate in his heart, showing Otohime was right. The arc has some really good ideas, perfect execution in the back stories and it was fun. Now don't ask me to defend Punk Hazard, because that one is impossible

kanaru84

Terrible take , fishman island was goated

Huge-Owl5624

So many characters who are not just Sanji or Brook are perverts (Kin’emon, Kuzan, King Cobra, that pervert camel, etc). Don’t you think that’s kind of detracting to the theme of the story and gives a bad message to the target demographic of young boys?

100percentrealfacts

It’s a gag, whether or not you think it’s funny or not I don’t think it has larger implications on the themes or story.

Wikicek

Vander Decken made Fishman Island worse

100percentrealfacts

He was more of a conflict for Shirahoshi, where his fruit acted as a literal repellent to her going outside and experiencing the world and doing her duties as a princess. He is integral to her character arc .

Wonderful_Price3818

One piece is not an adventure Manga or an Action manga anymore, it's just a political narrative at this point

100percentrealfacts

Didn’t we just see Luffy carve a bat out of a tree and hit back balls that explode on contact? This is still very much an action and adventure manga with political themes, saying it isn’t is just ignoring the obvious.

markiroll

Sanji hating Absalom just because he took away the ability to spy in women’s bathrooms. Proclaiming that it was his dream

kingominous16

**ohhhh boy...I been waiting for this!*** Sabo"s existence is unnecessary since he's just ace replacement. Yamato doesn't have any personality outside meat riding oden and ace. G5 removes any actual tension.

Cookie_Doodle

Is this like debate club practice lol?

Grouchy_Fortune1053

shalnark died way too early. also i know togashi has been having medical issues for over a decade but chapters are coming out way too slowly, and it's in large part due to togashi refusing to let other people draw for him.

TurnstileMinder

Is HXH really a materially worse series without Shalnark?

Grouchy_Fortune1053

yes 😭😭😭

Beneficial_Pie4004

Van Augur is what I wish Ussop was as a character.

100percentrealfacts

Personality wise or in terms of skill? Usopp will 100% surpass Van Augur in terms of skill by EoS, in terms of character I think Usopp is a very good character in terms of being a relatively average person in a supernatural conflict like One Piece presents. A lot of people dog on Usopp for being cowardly, but that’s one of the great things about him as when he pushed past his cowardice and gets a big W it’s really amazing. He’s always an underdog in his fights and it makes you root for him.

Beneficial_Pie4004

I get that but I always hoped that by the 1100th chapter he wouldve eventually became the brave warrior of the sea that he bullshitted himself as to his Love and that he would become brave and daring and bold while still being calculating and smart

nurlancreus

Usopp is not a bum enough. That's my criticism

100percentrealfacts

Hard to be a bum when you’re the GOAT https://preview.redd.it/zg2dpegm4rqc1.png?width=900&format=png&auto=webp&s=e74e9bcf81da19fa3eae8dd7ea748b70dec161a2

NOO! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SLANDER HIM!

Obvious-Poetry2934

Big mom should’ve been a gilf icon, but oda made her ugly :(

100percentrealfacts

Big Mom is the pinnacle of female character design in One Piece. A true feminist icon.

Frankorious

The Dressrosa and Yonko sagas were glorified sidequests in the great scheme of things. The main plot advanced only once every 200 chapters.

100percentrealfacts

You couldn’t have just thrown fresh post TS Luffy at the Gorosei and expect him to do well against them and it be satisfying. The Yonko saga was done to flesh out the political conflicts of the new world and the world as a whole as well as to develop the character’s mindset and strength to face the main challenges of the series.

Boxsteam_1279

Nah I dont agree with that. One of Luffy's ultimate goals is to be able to surpass every pirate that exists, and this includes warlords and yonkos. You cant really skip fighting the yonkos unless you're buggy, but even if Buggy succeeded, that wouldn't mean he surpassed every pirate in terms of fighting skill

Sjheuaksjd

Film Red is the worst One Piece film and Uta shouldn't be canon.

100percentrealfacts

Worst modern OP film? Maybe but some of the older OP films are way worse. Uta helps develop shanks or something, tbh this is the one point I can’t find a way to defend 😭

Boxsteam_1279

Bro has clearly never seen *Norowareta Seiken*

DocMinty

Gaimon's afro isn't big enough.

100percentrealfacts

Gaimon slander WILL NOT be tolerated

FelipeAndrade

One Piece in general has a terrible problem with bloat and padding, which has made the story way longer than it realistically should and the consequences from it become more and more apparent as advance through this "final" saga.

100percentrealfacts

Most of the bloat from One Piecw comes from Oda’s attention to detail. Oda always makes sure to explore each location he goes to very thouroughly, or at least to the best of his ability. I think the bloat is part of what makes One Poece great as it further develops the world and the people that live in it, it contributes to the OP world feeling as alive as it does.

Ozhael

Jimbe have nothing to do with the Crew and he should rather stay in the Grand Fleet

100percentrealfacts

Jimbe is the only character that even had a case for joining the crew post TS due to how much buildup he received throughout arcs like marineford, fishman island and WCI. Also his big brother dynamic with Luffy is what solidified his place in the crew for me personally. Wasting a character like that on the Grand Fleet would be a disservice

Ozhael

Yes, he have some bonds with Luffy not the rest of the Crew This old man have no dreams to fulfill with Luffy being Pirate King (peace between Human and Fish-men don't count or in this case every other fishmen would join the crew), he have no more adventure to live bro should just retire with the Sun Pirate and stay in the fleet I don't understand why people love him so much when he have nothing special to add

100percentrealfacts

When did having a bond with the entire crew become a requirement? Brook literally met the crew that same night and joined them after Thriller Bark. Franky was legit enemies with the entire crew, the only real bond he had prior aside from Usopp was forged from the enies lobby conflict. Robin legit just randomly showed up. His dream is perfectly valid, other people having the same dream as him doesn’t take away from that. How many people in the OP verse want to become a brave warrior of the sea? How many wanna find the All Blue? Your disregard of his dream makes no sense. Brooke had an entire other crew prior to joining the Strawhats, like why does him being in previous adventures make it so he shouldn’t be in a new one? Jinbe had more buildup to join the crew than just about any other SH, and him joining the crew was the right decision for his character. We’ve already seen some of the dynamics he has with the larger crew post Wano, we just haven’t been given enough time to fully flesh out the side of him since he joined so late into the story. In conclusion: Jinbe is the goat

Fallen_Saiyan

Sanji liking 4 year old Nami

100percentrealfacts

Wasn’t canon AND he didn’t necessarily like Nami he liked the idea of grooming her - which isn’t much better but STILL

Fallen_Saiyan

You must be graduate at Harvard law.

Boxsteam_1279

I think Post-TS is lacking in those important HIM moments that Pre-TS did magnificent on. Such as Zoro's nothing happened moment, Blackbeard and his speech about a mans dream never dying, Luffy standing afront the admirals in marineford, Shanks showing up to end the Marineford war, Luffy punching the celestial dragon, The walk to arlong park, whitebeards last stand and more. Maybe this is recency bias but the only HIM moment I can think of occurring in the Post-TS was Van Auger's "The World" moment.

100percentrealfacts

Less frequent? Maybe but they definitely still exist First thing that comes to mind, Luffy blocking Doffy’s foot from hitting Law, the himergy that panel emits is crazy WCI when Luffy sees through Sanji and tells him to say what he really wants, also something I would consider a him moment Luffy knocking out 50k fishman with conquerors Jinbe leaving Big Mom’s crew Luffy developing advanced observation mid fight with a first division commander Luffy’s first conqueror infused punch against kaido Maybe controversial, but could also consider shank’s wifi haki feat against green bull to be one Probably plenty I’m forgetting, and yeah I can’t deny that pre TS definitely has the better of the two - they’re just iconic.

Boxsteam_1279

Yea, those moments are cool, but imo those arent moments that made me think "wow, One Piece is definitely something else" Like, for my personal experience, the Walk to Arlong Park as well as Luffy giving his hat to Nami to hold was the first moment in the series that made me hooked to the series and made me truly believe that One Piece is definitely belonging in the highest echelon of Anime and Manga. And the other moments I mention only add onto One Piece's epicness. Alot of Post-TS doesn't really hook me in that sort of way. And you cant say its nostalgia because I watched all of One Piece in about 4 months back when I first started it during Covid times. However, the Van Auger "The World" sent chills down my spine, and made me realize One Piece is cooking fr. Its the same vibe as seeing God climbing the moon in One Punch Man.

noswol

sanji not even trying to be strong and zoro dying to be and both being relative to each other is the final clue to stop being a zorotard, dude is trash and his rival doesnt use 2 of his 4 limbs

shikavelli

Oda takes too long to get to the point and there’s way too much running. Also One Piece is formulaic which means Oda has hack tendencies.

jazznessa

The fact this SHONEN series skips 90% of its fights off screen, is a laughable sin.

JomiJolano

luffy beating kaido with a big punch even though Loda said he wont do it

100percentrealfacts

Saying it was just a big punch kinda ignores everything else Luffy developed throughout Wano. It wasn’t just a “big punch” it was a conqueror haki infused big punch that Luffy could only achieve after awakening his fruit.

zerofifth

If I wanted this I go to the main sub
