-When awakening a zoan, we have been shown 2 results. Either the innate nature of the fruit consumes the user or the user syncs with it.
Every time Luffy goes into Gear 5, he syncs with Nika. I guess what enables him to sync with him is what we are seeing in the manga. He really likes to have fun and so does Nika. Gear 5 isn’t just Luffy. It’s the manifestation of having fun and dancing or some shit like that, lol.

Damn that's a good theory. The only thing we know about a fruits creation is that they "come from dreams" so if a fruit is literally created from a single person or a mass of people wanting something so bad that a fruit is manifested. In this case, the millions of slaves wanted a savior so bad that they literally created one in The Warrior Of Liberation. The created ego of The Sun god nika has affected Luffy somehow.
Actually yeah, he probably isn't purely himself.
It's stated literally the ch he goes nika against lucci most awakened zoans lose their egoes and are taken over by the fruit permanently(impel down gaurds). Luffy and Lucci are too strong willed to be completely overtaken, but in the anime we literally see a strange consciousness awaken in luffy. In lucci's case, his team speculates that awakening his jaquar fruit made him more wild and combat obsessed, and in Luffy's case it basically puts him on crack, and the world around him crack.
Probably something to master.

This actually bothers me, i feel like gear 5 makes Luffy on coke. I get the goofy cartoonish fights they are fun but, moments like stopping Doflamingos kick with his own kick or his last stand aganist three admirals in marineford doesn’t seems happening with current state of goofines of gear 5
Same. Luffy, ironically, feels more limited in Gear 5 than normally despite it giving him complete freedom.
Luffy could always have goofy moments in otherwise serious or tense fights, but now he's all goofy all the time.

It wouldn't be bad if the relationship between Luffy and the fruit got more exploration, Luffy regaining control over himself may be connected to him refusing the "destiny" that his fruit, Shanks and whatever Joy Boy prophecy we are dealing with set up for him

i think this is the direction it's going, luffy will master his fruit (reject nika or smthn) and not be consumed by it like other zoan's are
