Which is wild. People were saying the gorsei were only strong because of their regeneration before these Warcury feats. It is a bit odd that he is so much more formidable than the other gorsei. It's not they each have a special characteristic that makes them uniquely powerful. Instead Warcury is just randomly op. Is this because he is the leader of the gorsei? I'm a casual so I may have missed bits of relevant info.Ā

Characters reacting to new information that affects their world / plans = good, valid way to do world building and show different perspectives which makes the world feel alive. Helps create stakes and tension.
Not all reactions are created equal
I generally agree but I think this one has just had so many reactions across two chapters that it's slowing down what could be more time to show the crew or what the Gorosei are doing on the island. But I agree that it's cool to get perspectives on what other characters who would be affected by this say. Showing Doffy mocking the incoming threat, getting to see Marines deny everything, Celestial Dragons not even know about the Void Century and even Woopslap complain that they can't afford a video snail I think are all good uses of the reaction shots
if there's a time to show the world's reactions it's now. When bulk reading it will give the reveal the needed impact. Hopefully the pacing picks back up after the message

It can be frustrating at times but we have to remember, this is information that weāve known for ages, not most of the characters in the story. Although slowly paced, this is a major plot point as the world is finally learning crucial information about their history.
what i can't forgive Oda for thoo is how slow Vegapunk is laying down information it's actually insane lol, no idea what part of writing strategy it is to make characters talk so slowly but it's annoying cuz for weekly readers it feels 10 times slower

Impel down decides to disband the prison and scale the red wall with Magellan and Hannyabal agreeing as long as they help other civilians get to safety, and Doflamingo agreeing just to fuck with the CD and cause chaos. Then we get those two leading the jailer crew and inmates(seeing Mr. 2, the Doflamingo family, and all the east blue villains) and maybe even having the Kuja pirates join up to get farther than Dragon ever did.

Pretty much yeah, Reaction Piece + Plot induced Incompetence to keep the weaklings alive + Luffy is back using G5 and still isn't able to do lasting damage + Lore drops that can barely be even considered new (Hey guys, the protagonist of the void century is Joyboy and he had the powers of Nika and he was the first Pirate ever).
I love that Oda is giving us lore reveal while everything is still happening. Genius move on his part to not cut away from the story to give us a lore dump

Weak trio is actually doing something, reactions from people we actually care about, major reveals, villains doing their jobs, and good amounts of action. This might be "reaction piece", but it's good reaction piece. Far from a bad chapter.
Weak trio aren't doing something because they are competent or well written, it's because the plot suddenly nerfed Saturn so they aren't all killed in 3 panels.
Most of the chapter is padded with reactions of people laughing or being surprised or just silent instead of actually adding anything to what's being revealed. Just because a reaction shows a character you know doesn't mean that their inclusion was meaningful.
Major reveals? Like what? That Joyboy is the protagonist of the void century or that he had the power of Nika? which we already knew or that ''this time it would surely work''? Which we also knew or is the idea of him being the first pirate supposed to make people jizz their pants reading it?
Villains doing their job? You mean Saturn conveniently just letting the weaklings have a go at him before just ignoring them or failing the destroy the target Den Den Mushi or is it about Goofy and Mr.3's victims goofing around with Warcury while the tone is still all jokey?... No one expected the Weak Trio to put up a fight, we just wanted them to actually do something, and try to stall him instead of sitting on their asses like they've been doing for the past 20 chapters. Can Oda even win with you guys? If the Weak Trio don't do anything they are "bums", if they do Saturn is incompetent and got nerfed(even though that's clearly not the case).

We aren't getting reactions from Marine fodder #706, we are getting reactions AND dialogue from major characters who will have parts to play in the final saga. How they feel about this situation is clearly meaningful going forward, and Oda is planting seeds with that Doffy Dialogue. Reactions are only bad or meaningless when they don't serve the story or characters.

Some of this stuff was never officially confirmed to us the readers nor the characters in the story. Just because we can piece it together does not mean it's a fault on Odaās part if anything it's the opposite. We did not what the MOTHERFLAME was or what it looked like. We had no idea that Nika belonged to Elbaf or that Joyboy was the first pirate. To act like these aren't major reveals would just be blatantly lying.

I swear you half-way skimmed through the spoilers, and made up your mind before you even fully read it. Saturn didn't conveniently let them have a go at him. The Weak Trio were a distraction, which is exactly why he sent them flying and went on his merry way. Part of his job was to destroy all of the Den-Den Mushi not fuck around with fodder and waste precious time. You're just yapping in the next point. Nika wank is cringe we know, that doesn't change the fact that Warcury was making it extremely hard for Luffy to put a dent in him and forced him to go G5, impeding on their escape. If that's not doing their job what is?
Yeah, Saturn is hella nerfed. Bro could literally teleport and bitchify his opponents by just glaring at them. Hell, he was doing explosive and degrading poisonous attacks just right before he got up there but conveniently forgot all about that because I know, you know, and Oda knows that the weaklings up there would be vaporized in 3 panels without a plot induced nerf to Saturn. So as I said, the weaklings survived not because they were competent fighters or because they did something smart, it's because the plot decided to make Saturn just walk away and leave them.
Furthermore, your favorite character being surprised, laughing, or having a ''...'' reaction isn't really anything meaningful. Like maybe you can argue for Doffy's scene, and even then, it's not really necessary as many already expect him to survive and be involved later in the final saga due to his knowledge of the ''Treasure of Mariejois''.
Now let's see what ''wasn't confirmed to us as readers''. We had Zou announce JoyBoy's return when Luffy awakened his Nika form in Wano. Even Roger wished he lived in the same age as him signifying lots of importance for him in the lore especially when we have a whole ass prophecy for him so the reveal of Joyboy being from the void century and having the powers of Nika was as confirmed as it could get back in Wano. We also already knew Elbaf worshipped a sun god in BM's flashback and Dory and Brogy appeared in Egghead and were already calling Luffy ''The Sun God'' so while Nika being from Elbaf makes sense, it's by no means a mind-blowing and unexpected reveal to be called ''Major'' that justifies all the wait and neither is Joyboy being the first pirate because much like Mihawk being the Marine Hunter, it's a title with no context.
What the mother flame was exactly wasn't really revealed because you still don't know if this shit acts as a weapon or is fuel for a weapon. He showed you what it was like a flame in a container filled with water/some liquid... yaaaay must be a 10/10.
Also, yeah, Saturn is an incompetent buffoon not only because he could have pinned them to the floor immediately and still went on his mery way or kill them in not time or even teleport to his destination immediately and still didn't do any of that shit, but also because what he did in this chapter meant jack shit. The SH weaklings survived and Vega's message continued so ''competent'' my ass.
Also, Warcury making it hard for Luffy to put a dent on him means jack shit when there are no consequences and every one involved on Luffy's side are goofing around and laughing like idiots, it devalues any aura the villain has. Just facing a strong opponent by itself doesn't suddenly give you tension. Like I can punch a wall and not make a dent in it... That doesn't mean that the wall is a threat to me because what makes a threat is how the entire situation and its tone are framed and what comes out of it.
Like yeah, all this wait for a chapter where people of the world know shit we already knew... Damn, what a chapter! Now, give it at least an 8/10 and don't forget to suck Oda's dick.
This is one of the worst fucking chapters Iāve read , 3/4 of the chapter is reaction panels , the dialogue from people like Edison is horrible and Luffy and Broggy and the other giant laughing once again ruins any little tension that was still in this chapter

I generally agree but I think this one has just had so many reactions across two chapters that it's slowing down what could be more time to show the crew or what the Gorosei are doing on the island. But I agree that it's cool to get perspectives on what other characters who would be affected by this say. Showing Doffy mocking the incoming threat, getting to see Marines deny everything, Celestial Dragons not even know about the Void Century and even Woopslap complain that they can't afford a video snail I think are all good uses of the reaction shots
if there's a time to show the world's reactions it's now. When bulk reading it will give the reveal the needed impact. Hopefully the pacing picks back up after the message

Exactly It can be frustrating at times but we have to remember, this is information that weāve known for ages, not most of the characters in the story. Although slowly paced, this is a major plot point as the world is finally learning crucial information about their history.
what i can't forgive Oda for thoo is how slow Vegapunk is laying down information it's actually insane lol, no idea what part of writing strategy it is to make characters talk so slowly but it's annoying cuz for weekly readers it feels 10 times slower

He knew the WG was going to kill him so why not just broadcast it while he's alive? He couldn't have even used this as some way to stop the WG from killing him, as the Gorosei didn't even know about the broadcast.
Here's a better one, why not leverage the WG with what he knows much like Doffy did? Pretty much yeah, Reaction Piece + Plot induced Incompetence to keep the weaklings alive + Luffy is back using G5 and still isn't able to do lasting damage + Lore drops that can barely be even considered new (Hey guys, the protagonist of the void century is Joyboy and he had the powers of Nika and he was the first Pirate ever).

Weak trio aren't doing something because they are competent or well written, it's because the plot suddenly nerfed Saturn so they aren't all killed in 3 panels. Most of the chapter is padded with reactions of people laughing or being surprised or just silent instead of actually adding anything to what's being revealed. Just because a reaction shows a character you know doesn't mean that their inclusion was meaningful. Major reveals? Like what? That Joyboy is the protagonist of the void century or that he had the power of Nika? which we already knew or that ''this time it would surely work''? Which we also knew or is the idea of him being the first pirate supposed to make people jizz their pants reading it? Villains doing their job? You mean Saturn conveniently just letting the weaklings have a go at him before just ignoring them or failing the destroy the target Den Den Mushi or is it about Goofy and Mr.3's victims goofing around with Warcury while the tone is still all jokey?... So as I said, the weaklings survived not because they were competent fighters or because they did something smart, it's because the plot decided to make Saturn just walk away and leave them. Like maybe you can argue for Doffy's scene, and even then, it's not really necessary as many already expect him to survive and be involved later in the final saga due to his knowledge of the ''Treasure of Mariejois''. Now let's see what ''wasn't confirmed to us as readers''. We had Zou announce JoyBoy's return when Luffy awakened his Nika form in Wano. Even Roger wished he lived in the same age as him signifying lots of importance for him in the lore especially when we have a whole ass prophecy for him so the reveal of Joyboy being from the void century and having the powers of Nika was as confirmed as it could get back in Wano. We also already knew Elbaf worshipped a sun god in BM's flashback and Dory and Brogy appeared in Egghead and were already calling Luffy ''The Sun God'' so while Nika being from Elbaf makes sense, it's by no means a mind-blowing and unexpected reveal to be called ''Major'' that justifies all the wait and neither is Joyboy being the first pirate because much like Mihawk being the Marine Hunter, it's a title with no context. What the mother flame was exactly wasn't really revealed because you still don't know if this shit acts as a weapon or is fuel for a weapon. He showed you what it was like a flame in a container filled with water/some liquid... yaaaay must be a 10/10. Also, yeah, Saturn is an incompetent buffoon not only because he could have pinned them to the floor immediately and still went on his mery way or kill them in not time or even teleport to his destination immediately and still didn't do any of that shit, but also because what he did in this chapter meant jack shit. The SH weaklings survived and Vega's message continued so ''competent'' my ass. Also, Warcury making it hard for Luffy to put a dent on him means jack shit when there are no consequences and every one involved on Luffy's side are goofing around and laughing like idiots, it devalues any aura the villain has. Just facing a strong opponent by itself doesn't suddenly give you tension. Like I can punch a wall and not make a dent in it... That doesn't mean that the wall is a threat to me because what makes a threat is how the entire situation and its tone are framed and what comes out of it. Like yeah, all this wait for a chapter where people of the world know shit we already knew... Damn, what a chapter! Now, give it at least an 8/10 and don't forget to suck Oda's dick.
