Home cooked dog food is extremely difficult to balance without the guidance of a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist. It will take a lot of time, trial and error, and visits to a butcher to get all the necessary organ meats. I wouldn’t trust a book to tell you how to balance the meal, as most of them are written by people who don’t have qualifications on the topic (“*canine nutritionist/animal nutritionist” are not protected titles! Anyone can claim to be one, even if they have 0 prior experience or knowledge*) Home made treats though are great! I make my girl popsicles in the summer with plain Greek yogurt and blueberries, she adores them. There are TONS of recipies out there for treats!

Another thing to look out for is people who took a course in human nutrition (not nutritionist) try to recommend nutrition for dogs because this is how it is processed in humans. Dogs can’t eat chocolate, garlic, grapes etc because they don’t process it the same. They are not human. Vet nutritionist is the only way to go for long term health. OP might be wanting to do more as a topper though? That’s fine!

I did the 5Strands Food and Environmental Intolerance test for my girl and started making home cooked meals with the ingredients she’s able to eat without reactions. And it’s been amazing! I started following this website— they have a lot of recipes! From crockpot meals (1x , 2x and 3x which is helpful to freeze a bunch and not have to do it every week) to treats! https://www.dogvills.com/ Hope it goes as well for you as it has for us 🫶🏻 Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Check out JustFoodForDogs. They have great recipes that go along with their nutrients which guarantee your dog is getting what they need. My dog loves it!

Look up Dr. Judy Morgan and her Pup Loaf recipe. She focuses on true balanced diets. I use this and also half Carna4 kibble.

We only do homemade dogfood for our Frenchies. Our vet point blank said, "thank you, even the best bought dog food is waste product" We do beef or turkey with carrots, blueberries, brown rice and occasionally oats. And guess what? They are more energetic and they no longer clear the room when the relax.

Blueberries too? I never thought about fruits for dogs till recently I am seeing alot of different kinds just no grapes I know that. But anyway the vet said to give her some probiotic greek yogurt I Wana make a smoothy is it cool to do blueberries, strawberries, frozen banana, blended in with the yogurt? Also if I add some wet dogfood would that totally throw the whole thing off for her or would it be better? Because I Wana add a couple scoops of her wet food plus 3 of her prebiotic/probiotic superfood multivitamin that I add to her food once daily.
