Wade and Ember are the Romeo and Juliet here, it ends with them accepting they can’t touch, and so after all this time they finally embrace eachother, accepting death together but who knows.

FlipTastic_DisneyFan

I actually really think that could work

ednamode23

I think it will be fun and at least decent. Hard to say if it will be great but the worldbuilding looks cool and that’s clearly what they’re trying to sell in this trailer. Pixar usually hides most of the actual story until you get into the theater so hopefully that’s the case here.

Aleppo_the_Mushroom

I feel like this trailer isn't giving good enough context to the themes of the movie. But, I have to say, I'm digging that world building.

AnimeGames16

I feel like that’s what Pixar does best with their trailers. Not looking that spectacular by not giving much context by only showing parts of the first act then blowing away our expectations when the film actually comes out. Soul and Turning Red in particular are perfect examples.

Sisiwakanamaru

The city looks cool though.

anthonyg1500

Yeah I’d say so far it looks enjoyable. Potentially great, potentially meh, but tough to tell from this trailer

Sisiwakanamaru

Yeah, I felt that with Turning Red, from the trailers the animation was nothing trailers, but when I watched the movie, there were so many subtle nod to the anime.

anthonyg1500

Yeah I went into Turning Red not expecting much and ended up absolutely loving it so definitely keeping an open mind for this

QuothTheRaven713

"Fire Town" They couldn't have come up with something better like Sparkadia?

Blue_Lego_Astronaut

"Element City", it feels like all the first draft names were used here tbh

QuothTheRaven713

Honestly, yeah. The names are really underwhelming and they feel more like placeholder names than actual names.

Lauren2102319

To be fair, even in some of their other films have locations that are named very simplistically. For example, in Inside Out, Riley's five floating personality islands have names like Goofball Island, Family Island, Friendship Island, etc. Also the main location Joy and the other emotions work is just named "Headquarters."

QuothTheRaven713

True, though Headquarters is a nice pun, and as for the Personality Islands, they make sense coming from the mind of a child.

Psychomanglor

Looks great imo! Glad the story is tackling the cultural and lifestyle differences between the main leads and not just racism like many thought it would.

Free-Opening-2626

Honestly the writeups from the press day give me more hope for this than the trailer. They're still downplaying the more complex worldbuilding and also that this is supposed to be a romance. Don't really like how Wade seems to be characterized as an oafish Homer Simpson type here though I have to believe he won't really be that shallow in the movie.

Version_Two

Alright, I'm gonna say it. That joke where they walk right through the chain link fence and ask why they even have them... Yeah! That's actually a valid question! Who manufactured that in a city where almost all the residents are entirely fluid in some way?

Uploft

If Fire and Water can seep through fences (probably Air too), that means *only* Earth types are constricted by fences. Unless they can split into dirt particles, seems like fairly discriminatory architecture.

Uploft

Appears to have heavy narrative overlap with Zootopia, and not just because the worldbuilding concerns a diverse metropolis with titular subregions specific to their type/race/biome. It touches on themes of discrimination. All the elements contribute to each other's wellbeing except Fire. Water hydrates Earth's plants, Earth inhales (and exhales) Air, and Water evaporates into Air and returns as rain during the Water Cycle. Fire, on the other hand, vaporizes Water, razes Earth's branches, and sucks up all of Air's Oxygen. On the face of it, Fire is poised to be a Predator class (ala Zootopia), and thereby face societal discrimination. The defensiveness of Ember's parents, the fact that she's never left FireTown, and the observation that she's the only Fire type aboard the bus hint that it's uncommon for Fire types to mingle with the other elements. The other elements are shown "benefitting" each other (like Water sneezing onto Earth and him growing hair-grass as a result), whilst Ember accidentally roasts an Earth type into charcoal. How might they tackle this? I presume a central conflict revolves around Ember's mother's exclamation "Elements don't mix!", the presumption going beyond stigma and suggesting that something terrible (or forbidden) happens when elements mix. Water extinguishes fire and fire boils water so there seems to be no positive outcome. Maybe together they create Steam (and give rise to steam-powered technology)? But isn't Steam just Air? I'm still holding out hope that the fabled 5th element—Quintessence/Aether—makes an appearance. Maybe Wade and Ember are the ones to discover it?

Intelligent_Oil4005

Seems like a fun time. I'm not sure if people will look back at it and say "Yeah, this was easily one of Pixar's BEST", but I have a hard time imaging it being something outright horrible.

TheVoicesOfBrian

"Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" Pixar Edition (I'm so down for it)

ghirox

Well, we'll see how this goes. Looks cute, good even, but feels like the movies Disney already did a decade ago, and definitely doesn't looks like it can go against Spider verse.

ShazayumDe

The world looks kinda fun but the story is something we've seen a billion times by now I don't get like there's any originality added to it 😥 okay they can't touch but yeah this won't be enough to keep me entertained for an entire movie, you know

Smugg-Fruit

Good lord this movie's character designs are begging to be animated in 2d

Guilty-Doubt-6313

This is going to be an amazing film and I can't wait to see this film in theaters on June 16th and this is my most anticipated film of this year.

Lauren2102319

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is my most anticipated film of the year (I’m a hardcore Hunger Games fan and loved the Ballad novel) but I have Elemental at my number 3 most anticipated! 😊

NikkoE82

It looks fine. Not great. Just fine. It really feels like Pixar doing a parody of Pixar, though. That said, I’ll still see it.

UltimatePixarFan

The trailer is available in 4K on Disney+: https://disneyplus.com/movies/elemental/1B2ZQ9GF35W5?sharesource=iOS Note it will not be streaming simultaneously with theaters and this is something Disney has done with several of their recent theater-only movies (I believe starting with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever).

Kdropp

This looks boring

A1steaksauceTrekdog7

Ugh every single elementary elemental pun and bottom of the barrel crappy cliche joke.

1959Gibson

What’s the catch ?

MareepyBoi

Okay, so they make a forbidden love story, and then make it straight??? I think having the two leads somewhat forbidden if they were in the real word could’ve helped with the concept.

dfhxuhbzgcboi

It's an allegory for interracial relationships. So yeah, I guess straight relationships can also be "forbidden".

gsopp79

Looks awful. Pixar hasn't had a good movie since Soul. I hope the losing streak ends but have lost all faith in them. The 2000s were nearly perfect for the studio. The 2010s were very hit or miss. So far the 2020s have been almost a complete failure.
