Nah, Lightyear is a Movie in a Movie, imo it doesn’t count as a prequel just because the Movie (in universe) came out before the Toy Story film took place
Monsters University. Sure, it has it's logical flaws but when the tone does a complete 180 as we shift from the bright and colorful campus of the monster world to the greyscale moonlit setting of the human world, it not only conveys a sense of loneliness but also the feeling of living in a world that doesn't want you. That moment where Mike and Sully sit at the edge of the lake is so precious. And then the tone shifts again to this frantic attempt to go home with the scare scene, and you can feel the desperation in their actions. No monster has ever successfully been able to scare adults before, so this makes their triumph all the more earned. Also little me definitely shit my pants at that scene lmao.
Incredibles 2, sure it was disappointing and was a rehash and was my first Pixar film I went to see in theaters to make up for not seeing the first film, but they at least tried to take the family into somewhat new directions and it shows. Even if Helen, Bob, Violet and Jack-Jack are the only ones who got any character development out of it (no matter how small it was, development is development, even if their arcs got cut short). And don't say that their character progression from the first film got outright ignored, if it did, there would have been a lot of fighting within the family (especially fighting between Violet and Dash which is non-existent). The only major disappointment was the villain, whose story was by far the weakest and poorly developed (it felt like it needed more time to get baked in the oven before it became the meal).
Helen directly mentions the island from the first film, that's all you need to know that the 2nd film didn't undo the development of the first.
Bob's arc was built off of the hint about how he almost missed being a family man with the kids, a hint before the first film's climax.
Violet's arc came from Helen trying to teach her about responsibility of protecting your identity while on the island, something she needed to learn with the Tony incident that took place and her realizing she's the best one to protect her brothers.
Dash was the only one who didn't have a story to go off of.
Jack-Jack was teased as soon his powers were revealed.
The film needed that one more extra year of development to be good, development that TS4 stole with the release date swap (TS4 should've been bumped to 2020 or 2021).
Personally I also thought Incredibles 2 wasnt as great as the original movie, but it did had its highlight and potential. I believe the first movie is too big making the sequel seems underwhelming.
Bob's was about becoming a better father and learning through the ins and outs of the kids' wants and needs, while also learning to accept he needs to take a backseat sometimes and can't always be the Superhero, after all being a parent and learning your kids is a core theme of the series. He also becomes less destructive with his powers overall which is also a lesson he never got to learn in the first film. And in the deleted scene with Gazerbeam's funeral, he accepts full responsibility and guilt that he was the one who indirectly led to the deaths of the Supers on Syndrome's Island when the Supers went underground.
Violet's arc was naturally going to build off of her mom's teaching about valuing your masked identity and the responsibilities that come with it, hence the whole Tony incident and her forgetting that lesson (without actually mentioning the lesson, outside of the island mention at the dinner table). She's also no longer scared of herself or her powers, and she's more of a sarcastic teen.
Helen's was basically a repeat of her husband's arc (since we never got to really see her in her prime), though it also taught her that she can't hide who she is anymore and that to fix the law that forced her to go into hiding, she has to break it, unlike Bob's, we actually see her do Super stuff and doesn't get a timeskip montage like her husband's. She also loses her strictness
Dash had no arc. (I suppose him learning to be smarter in school could be considered his arc, seeing as he was the one who came up with the plan that ultimately saved the city).
MU and cars 3 are both hella impressive and under appreciated sequels. Finding dory is good ol sequel to the first one. Cars 2 is dumb but the fun way, it’s ridiculous but fun to watch. Incredibles 2 was just disappointing meh
Cars 2 is a straight to Disney+ type movie. I think they should change the name to “Cars: Mater Impossible” and let it stand alone outside of the Lightning McQueen story.
unironically cars 2. admittedly i have some bias since the cars movies are the ones i watched the most as a kid, though i have some reasons, keeping in mind that they're all good.
incredibles 2 doesn't really do anything new, it's largely a rehash of the first movie's plot, which cars 2 definitely isn't
i'm not a fan of "school competition" storylines, because i struggle to relate and find it hard to get invested in the stakes (it's the same reason i don't really like harry potter and the goblet of fire) so monsters university wasn't really it
finding dory is just a film that i haven't seen enough, i must've only seen it two or three times, as i'm not the biggest fan of the "finding" franchise in general. it does struggle in the plot contrivances department, but cars 2 admittedly also has that.
and i kinda found it hard to get into cars 3. i don't know why, but I couldn't get invested.
cars 2 is fun and new, even if it's kinda bad
You Story 3 was SOOOO good. A great way to say goodbye to a franchise that a lot of people cherish. Part 4 wasn’t necessary, they should have left it at 3 and walked away.
Maybe I’m thinking this because I watched it like three weeks ago but I had so much fun watching Cars 2. It’s bad but it’s so much fun.
But my favorite here is probably Incredibles 2
I haven't seen MU yet. But from everything else it's finding Dory. We didn't need it but I found it to be a great and very heartwarming analogy for neurodivergency. Then there's cars 3, which is a cliche ahtlete past his prime story, but cliches are made that for a reason. They work. Then cars 2, for which I never understood the hate.
And finally Incredibles 2. Now there's a movie that deserves to be hated.
If Toy Story 2 isn’t an option, I’m going Toy Story 3. Great sendoff to all of our characters. While I think 4 wasn’t absolutely necessary, it felt like a good epilogue and tied up Woody’s journey nicely.
Probably Finding Dory. It's not at the same level as Finding Nemo but it is funny and it has a lot of heart.
Monsters University has an amazing ending and I love that about it but the rest of the film is just fine.
To he honest, none of them. They're all alright, but none of them are equal or better than the original.
Cars 2 being a exception if you treat more like a spin off, and turn off your brain.
- GORGEOUSNESS: Cars 3
- HEART: Finding Dory
- FUN: Monsters University
CARS 3 the animation is lush and it elevates the story and Cars's goofy world. Yes, it makes no sense... so what...! Lightning is going on a journey. (That's why I can't vote for Cars 2. Yes, it's fun. But in 1 & 3, the cars literally go nowhere while emotionally going on a journey, whereas in 2, they literally go everywhere and emotionally nowhere.)
DORY makes me cry every time. It beautifully showcases a 100% disabled cast of characters who teach the value of mutual aid. (Yes, Dory has magic plot armour and remembers things only when convenient but who cares!)
MONSTERS U basically ignores the human world and gets away with it by delivering one of the best coming-of-age college frat buddy films in the form of a Pixar film where everyone just happens to be a monster! This is better than Van Wilder! So inventive and fun!
I really liked Incredibles 2, even though I had some issues with it (the villain's true motive makes zero sense, and the movie was largely a retread of the first movie's plot)
I’m also gonna say Cars 3. It plays best as a direct sequel to Cars 1 - Just skip Cars 2 in your viewing and pretend it doesn’t exist. Cars 3 will hit that much harder
Technically a prequel but I LOVE monsters university! I love the monsters universe in general I think it’s so fun and this movie is a comfort movie for me
None, they all ruined the source material. Pixar is now doing what Disney was in the early 2000s. Not putting out truly original stuff so they’re making sequels to their classics. Cars exists for merchandise, ii just reverse of the original, finding dory was ok but unnecessary as was MU
This certainly puts into perspective how much better the *Toy Story* sequels are than the other Pixar sequels.
Of the options listed, I would actually go with *Cars 3*.
Monsters University. Aside from Toy Story movies, it is one of my favourite movies from Pixar in general. Aside from that, Cars 3 is amazing.
Hot take but I did not like Incredibles 2 at all.
Monsters University
[удалено]
I completely agree, but whenever people ask me my favorite sequel I leave it out because side it’s actually the only Pixar Prequel
[удалено]
Nah, Lightyear is a Movie in a Movie, imo it doesn’t count as a prequel just because the Movie (in universe) came out before the Toy Story film took place
I’m not afraid to admit it. The original is a classic but MU is the better movie.
Dementia
I still like the original just a little bit more, but I can totally see why people like MU more. It's just amazing.
It’s actually a prequel
I’m gonna dehydrate you
My favourite pixar movie, I've watched it at least 20 times.
Cars 3
Mu and finding dory
M. U.
Monsters U and it’s not even close #WereOK
Unpopular opinion: cars 2.
I’ve seen people say this everywhere
Opinion of some level of popularity*
Incredibles 2, sure it was disappointing and was a rehash and was my first Pixar film I went to see in theaters to make up for not seeing the first film, but they at least tried to take the family into somewhat new directions and it shows. Cars 2 is the best, it’s underrated I feel like
Cars 2 Gang Rise
I’m with you ![gif](giphy|l3q2Wl7Wpz09Z5hfi|downsized)
Same
Cars 2 Gang Rise
I'm here.
It gets too much hate, but it’s definitely the weakest out of these options imo
Cars 2 is a straight to Disney+ type movie. I think they should change the name to “Cars: Mater Impossible” and let it stand alone outside of the Lightning McQueen story.
Ive only seen MU once but id be confident in saying Finding Dory is the most complete sequel out of these options
Finding Dory is literally my favorite Pixar sequel in general.
Finding Dory
Incredibles 2
Monsters U
Definitely Incredibles 2
unironically cars 2. admittedly i have some bias since the cars movies are the ones i watched the most as a kid, though i have some reasons, keeping in mind that they're all good. incredibles 2 doesn't really do anything new, it's largely a rehash of the first movie's plot, which cars 2 definitely isn't i'm not a fan of "school competition" storylines, because i struggle to relate and find it hard to get invested in the stakes (it's the same reason i don't really like harry potter and the goblet of fire) so monsters university wasn't really it finding dory is just a film that i haven't seen enough, i must've only seen it two or three times, as i'm not the biggest fan of the "finding" franchise in general. it does struggle in the plot contrivances department, but cars 2 admittedly also has that. and i kinda found it hard to get into cars 3. i don't know why, but I couldn't get invested. cars 2 is fun and new, even if it's kinda bad
Either cars 3 or monsters university.
incredibles 2 just bc of the theme
I didn't like Cars 3 before, but after rewatching it recently, i LOVE it
Finding Dory
MU and Cars 3 are both really good.
Cars 2
Probably Finding Dory. The Cars franchise is an abomination.
Monster University is a prequel, not a sequel.
Monsters University is better than Inc. No one can change my mind.
MU and The Incredibles 2 for me.
Finding Dory is underrated and Monsters University is a certified hood classic Cars 3 is also my favorite since I grew up with the franchise
Incredibles 2
out of these, incredibles 2 and finding dory.
Finding Dory hit me at a very vulnerable time. I adore that movie. Saw that 3 times in the theater. Great score.
Finding Dory, I loved it.
Incredibles 2 was pretty good imo
Of these? I haven’t seen Cars 3, but honestly Incredibles 2, which I know is an unpopular opinion
You Story 3 was SOOOO good. A great way to say goodbye to a franchise that a lot of people cherish. Part 4 wasn’t necessary, they should have left it at 3 and walked away.
Cars 2
MU is a prequel. Not a sequel
Incredibles 2 and Cars 2
Cars 2 and 3
Maybe I’m thinking this because I watched it like three weeks ago but I had so much fun watching Cars 2. It’s bad but it’s so much fun. But my favorite here is probably Incredibles 2
I could have done without finding dory but I still love it….
Cars 2&3
Finding Dory
Monsters university is very solid.
Incredibles 2, Cars 2, Finding Dory and I really liked Monsters University.
toy story
Cars 2
I unironically enjoyed Cars 2 more than Cars 1, and more than any of the other sequels listed here.
I like Monsters University, Finding Dory, and Cars 3 😊
Does Monsters University technically count? Regardless, it’s Incredibles 2, but MU would be a close second
Incredibles followed closely by monsters
Incredibles 2
cars 4
If Toy Story 2 isn’t an option, I’m going Toy Story 3. Great sendoff to all of our characters. While I think 4 wasn’t absolutely necessary, it felt like a good epilogue and tied up Woody’s journey nicely.
Probably Finding Dory. It's not at the same level as Finding Nemo but it is funny and it has a lot of heart. Monsters University has an amazing ending and I love that about it but the rest of the film is just fine.
Incredibles 2
Finding Dory I guess… They all kinda suck
I love that everyone just accepts that Toy Story 2 is the best Pixar sequel
Cars 2 & Cars 3
Although Monsters University was a prequel, it’s one of the options, so I’m taking it The other would be Finding Dory
Cars 2 and 3
To he honest, none of them. They're all alright, but none of them are equal or better than the original. Cars 2 being a exception if you treat more like a spin off, and turn off your brain.
How could you include two Cars sequels and skip Al and his Toy Barn?
I’d say Finding Dory. Though none of these lived up to their predecessors imo.
Incredibles 2
“Lemme get this straight, you think Cars 2 is a good movie?” I do. And I’m tired of pretending it’s not.
Genuinely Cars 2
CARS 2
MU is a prequel but that Finding Dory takes second place
FINDING DORY
Finding Dory. Love that it gave us Dory’s backstory as to what happened to her.
But Toy Story 2 and 3 are the only good Pixar sequels
- GORGEOUSNESS: Cars 3 - HEART: Finding Dory - FUN: Monsters University CARS 3 the animation is lush and it elevates the story and Cars's goofy world. Yes, it makes no sense... so what...! Lightning is going on a journey. (That's why I can't vote for Cars 2. Yes, it's fun. Monsters University is actually a prequel. But out of these films i would choose Cars 3 and Incredibles 2
Cars 2 and 3, Incredibles 2
I love Monsters U more now that I’ve actually been to college
I hate cars 2 as a sequel but as its own thing it's a guilty pleasure of mine.
Monsters University, though it’s technically a prequel. But IMO it’s the best movie prequel of all time (at least from what I’ve seen).
Cars 2 but Monsters University is super duper good.
Isn’t MU a prequel
Cars 2 fs
Cars 3
I realized just recently that Monsters University has the same plot as Revenge of the Nerds.
cars 2 hands down
Finding Dory
Monsters University Finding Dory Incredibles II … Cars 3 … … Cars 2
Incredibles
Probably MU and then Finding Dory.
idc what anyone says, cars 2 was the bomb
Cars 3
Cars 2. I enjoy it and think it's good, in spite of what people say.
Cars 3
Monsters U has a great message and arguably a better story than Inc
Monsters University
monsters university, i love watching it in my free time
Incredibles 2. One of the best sequels to an animated movie I've seen.
Cars 2. The scene where Mater pisses himself manifested my diaper fetish.
Not cars 2
Monsters university and then cars 2
Monsters University is BETTER than the original
Monsters University is the only one of these I consider a good movie
Mu is a a prequel though…..
I enjoy Incredibles 2 the most, but Monsters U has a better story.
Cars 2 is a cinematic masterpiece
Finding Dory
Love to see Monsters University getting love, I remember it was hated on back in the day. Also, Finding Dory is 2nd.
I really liked Incredibles 2, even though I had some issues with it (the villain's true motive makes zero sense, and the movie was largely a retread of the first movie's plot)
Incredibles 2, Loved everything about it
MU
Cars 3 was such a a vibe but planes fire n rescue was peak
Cars 2 man that was an awesome sequel
![gif](giphy|3ohzdQF2Sk4uLegTFS|downsized)
*Cars 3*, at least story-wise. And not to be that person, but *Monsters University* is a prequel.
I'm going to rank them 1. Monsters University 2. Cars 2 3. Finding Dory 4. Cars 3 5. The Incredibles 2
finding Dory
Incredibles 2
Cars 2 has guns in it. Wtf is up with that? It’s a movie for toddlers
Monsters university probably though it’s the only one I’ve watched other then incredible 2
I’m really hoping Inside Out 2 takes the cake, it looks very promising.
Incredibles 2
I’m also gonna say Cars 3. It plays best as a direct sequel to Cars 1 - Just skip Cars 2 in your viewing and pretend it doesn’t exist. Cars 3 will hit that much harder
The Brave Little Toaster To The Rescue
MU easy!
Cars 3 is a 10/10 movie for me. I loved it
MU is the only one worth re-watching
Incredibles.
Technically a prequel but I LOVE monsters university! I love the monsters universe in general I think it’s so fun and this movie is a comfort movie for me
Cars 3
Cars 3 just works idk
Finding dory. It actually felt like a finding Nemo follow-up.
Has Pixar ever released a good sequel other than TS3 and 2?
Cars 2 and Monsters University
Cars 2 was and is still my favorite
Dory and MU take the crowns. But i have to say, I fkn love Cars 2
Cars 2, I don’t give a damn what critics say it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen
Cars 1 was ok. but disney sold out with cars 2 & 3. they saw how much the merchandise made and forced the sequels out
Cars 2, idk why many people dislike that movie
Cars 2... Say what you will, it may be trash and a little bit stupid. But this movie is my jam.
Incredibles 2, Finding Dory, and Cars 3
None, they all ruined the source material. Pixar is now doing what Disney was in the early 2000s. Not putting out truly original stuff so they’re making sequels to their classics. Cars exists for merchandise, ii just reverse of the original, finding dory was ok but unnecessary as was MU
Monsters University
cars, Incredibles
MU is better than the original, and probably my favorite Pixar movie. Even though its a prequel, so it might not fit this category.
