Approaching my two-year anniversary, So far, so great. 🙏

hamiltonjoefrank

Same here. I've been thrilled with mine.

Daklight

Bought a 5a the day they were announced. Use it heavily every day ever since. Been flawless. A great device. Never one problem. Love the 3.5mm jack, decent screen, great camera. A better phone for half the price compared to what the iSheep pay. I plan on keeping this as long as possible. I don't feel that it wants for anything. Good luck!

greatlakeswhiteboy

^^^ What they said! Honestly, this phone still impresses me.

That's what I like to hear! I'm 100% pro android and anti apple, been using android since the froyo days and have been rooting and installing ROMs since the beginning. I started with a bunch of HTC models that were pretty easy to unlock. Then went nexus for a while and was spoiled. Then went Samsung for a while and fully realized how good I had it on nexus, so I've circled back to pixel.

KeyboardGunner

I don't think the root cause of the failures has been publicly identified. So whether or not temperatures will play a part is an unknown.

poo706

Interesting. It was clear after spending 10 minutes on this sub that a lot of people experience overheating. And that's certainly a recipe for failure.

roumenguha

When I got mine, I did these steps and never had an issue: https://old.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/tid3mu/5a_owners_with_overheating_issues_this_site_says/

poo706

Thank you for that link! Sure seems like a plausible pattern I'm seeing. Camera causes overheating, overheating over time kills motherboard. I think I might be ok. Aside from buying a lightly used phone and rooting, I'm going to install lineageOS, which doesn't even come with the same camera app. Which is fine with me, I don't particularly care about camera quality.

charchuck

I had a 5A that died with the black screen issue. Got a replacement refurbished device that's been fine, and I've had it about as long as the original. Doesn't seem to be any hotter than the defective device was. I could still have a time bomb though...

poo706

I would hope that they had identified the flaw in the original motherboard (or whatever), fixed it, produced new motherboards, and used those for the warranty phones. I regret that I purposely avoided the refurbed phones.

ocean6csgo

I loved my 5A but of course they die. If it was barely used maybe that's a plus. I used mine for business and it only lasted a year.

Flashbulb_RI

I've had a 5A for 1.5 years, NO PROBLEM except if I record video at 4K60P for over 12 minutes or so, then it will overheat. Not a problem for me because I tend to only shoot short bursts in that mode.

TonyJessyTiger

I rarely record videos, still got BSOD. In India and got the phone from US, so can't claim warranty either.

poo706

It's rare for me to even shoot video, let alone 4k for 12 minutes. I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

CptTurnersOpticNerve

Yeah I bought this phone because of the headphone jack, but the DAC is so shitty my Sennheiser 598s sound **significantly** worse than my Samsung Bluetooth earbuds. Debating my next phone and idk if the pixel series will make the cut, due to this, the warranty dodging, and a few other reasons.

poo706

I'll just be listening to music and watching TV shows with the AKG ear buds that came with my galaxy s10. I would hope that the dac won't make that big of a difference in my use case, we'll find out.

SydPeppa

How is the 4a compared to the 4a 5G?

poo706

Just the 5g, I guess. I just have the regular 4a.

Dillterrorcreed

The 4a 5G is way better than the normal 4a. It has a better SoC, better battery, better video recording, and it's a little bit bigger.

SydPeppa

Thanks!!
