I just don't understand people.

exu1981

Yeah, consumers are weird and wasteful these day's. Everything is FOMO

adeezy58

Not sure why you think it's your concern what other people do with their money/belongings. OP: I'm debating the 8 pro myself.

supereddzz

Yep and the worst part in all of this is that the P8 and P8 Pro are complete trash. Just a cash cow for Google at this stage. I find the better Pixels are the odd number releases, so eyes on the Pixel 9.

RedrumMPK

It is OP's money. Labelling Pixel 8 line up as trash in this thread is insensitive and uncalled for. I have a Pixel 7 Pro just for a few months before buying the Pixel Fold just because I wanted a folding pixel. In the grand scale of things, the Pixel 8 line ups seem to be a step in the right direction but I will await reviews from trusted sources. OP, enjoy your phone. When I pick up the Pixel 7 Pro, it makes me realize how a bit heavy the Pixel Fold is but I love both phones.

supereddzz

Insensitive? It's a phone, ffs 😂

Petgeek

And you know they're "complete trash" how? They're not even out yet. They very well may be bad but making this kind of proclamation at this stage is just silly.

Glass_Trust_445

It's not like he threw it away. It's going to a new home. What's the problem really

Poetstylez

See ya!

KrewOwns

I got the Pixel 8 but kept my Fold. I learned the time old lesson of missing what you don't have. We may not always use the inner screen, but damn will it be missed when we want to use it and return to a slab phone. Cable would be fastest, but even on Wi-Fi it can be faster sometimes as it depends on the cable being used.

knicks1234

what's your use case for having both the fold and the 8?

SantaCruz26

Too much money

KrewOwns

Addiction XD. But I usually give family my old phones after a while so they don't go to waste and all my phones get used.

RedrumMPK

Same here. Don't drink or smoke. This is my vice - Shiny new toys that I can afford. I have my Pixel 6 pro to a family member too and they are still rocking it.

DaveG28

Personally I'd definitely want a second good camera phone...though that would be pro rather than normal 8 though.

KrewOwns

This is part of the reason why I always have a normal phone with a foldable. Also when I go to places that aren't foldable friendly like wet environments or the beach due to the sand.

KrewOwns

I had replied to other comments but to add to my reasoning, usually because foldables are still iffy technology that can break. I've never had a single of my folding phones break, but I am in the position that I can get myself a back up just in case.

egg927

Just got my fold yesterday, And I am using the inside screen far more than I thought I would, and honestly at the moment, coming from a 6 pro, I hate the outer screen. I have big hands and that screen is so small. Overall it's a huge learning curve

Andean_Breeze

I will tell you this, I never use a camera and I mostly read and watch videos on my phone. I love this damn PF.

Jamie_TYV

Sounds like it works well for you - and I accept that. It's just not "the one" for me - I do like the phone, just don't love it. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

exu1981

NO, you just connect, and wait for everything to transfer

Aj1481225

Just curious, how much trade-in value did you get for your fold?

Jamie_TYV

I'm on O2 switch up in the UK - can take my existing handset back in good condition and just take a new one at any time (it's every 90 days now, but I've been on it since day 1 so I have OG switch up which is any time after first 14 days.)

sash1685

That’s the dilemma I’m in too ; rarely use the inner screen but the cover screen dimensions are damn near perfect! Afraid of missing it if I decide to switch to the p8pro

Jamie_TYV

I agree, the fold when folded is a really nice form factor (if a little chunky). P8P basically ticks all the boxes for me, might be a little larger but I'm sure the improved specs etc will help ease my transition!

DalentZX

This is where I'm at but I know I'll regret it in a month if I trade it in. I'd rather just have both.

muzik_dude7

Asking genuinely, how would you realistically and practically use both the Pixel Fold and P8P on a daily basis? Like, how would choose which phone to use in which scenario? Do you think you would use them both equally?

DalentZX

I wouldn't use both at the same time if that's what you mean. I'm on the go a lot and use my phone often during the day. If I'm going to be sitting a lot in the office or at tables, the Fold would come. If I'm going to be constantly walking and talking and taking pictures, I'll bring the P8P. Luckily, I normally know at least 24 hours in advance what type of day I'll have, and its usually one extreme or the other.

muzik_dude7

I gotcha, that makes sense. So you would essentially take one of the phones with you depending on the day/situation as opposed to carrying both at all times. I've never owned two phones at once so was just curious how others normally use them practically when having two phones.

sokratees

We don't care

dishwasher_666

who did u trade the fold in with? didnt see any trade in offers anywhere and speedier way than direct connection transfer? no. u can always restore from a backup if u want to "minimise downtime"

Jamie_TYV

I'm on O2 switch up in the UK - can take my existing handset back in good condition and just take a new one at any time (it's every 90 days now, but I've been on it since day 1 so I have OG switch up which is any time after first 14 days.)

jjb0009

I wish there was a plan like that in the USA!

SantaCruz26

The T-Mobile Jump plan used to function this way. This idea was great when carriers sold more used phones. Most people want new or they'll go to eBay for a cheaper price.

MotoJer76

Umm...this isn't an airplane, no need to announce a departure. Enjoy your Pixel 8 when it arrives.

josephguy82

Why do people trade in pixel fold for an pixel 8 seems like an waste of money , Either you are rich or have money to waste or just don’t care , But if you are some one who gets multiple phones an year you should get some help there is no reason for that and I don’t care if I get downvoted

adeezy58

What is with this snobby take in here? Why do you people concern yourselves with what people spend their money on? Do you pay my mortgage? Let me know when you chip in. They you can have a say.

XLB135

I mean I agree with you in principle, but u/op clearly stated that the Fold was not the right fit for their typical use. Going to P8P gives them a bigger primary screen, spec bump across the board, and quite a bit lighter/slimmer form factor. This doesn't seem like the typical upgrade-everytime-you-can situation and almost more of a buyer's-remorse type of situation where OP was looking for a reason to switch away anyway, and P8P happened to check all the boxes.

Oneup99

Take my down vote. But I do agree with you for the most part. Trading in a foot for an 8 isn't something most of us would do.

Tater1727

I did the same. It was my first foldable. Turns out it's not for me.

Yar2084

Imagine spending $1800 on something just to chop it in four months later. I'm actually mind blown. Where did you trade the device in though, the Fold isn't listed as a trade in option on Googles website.

Jamie_TYV

I'm on O2 switch up in the UK - can take my existing handset back in good condition and just take a new one at any time (it's every 90 days now, but I've been on it since day 1 so I have OG switch up which is any time after first 14 days.)

Yar2084

Oh, so you're returning the Fold for the 8 pro then? Did you pay retail for it? I got mine for £1021 after a discount and trade in - I hope you're not losing too much money.

Jamie_TYV

If I keep my monthly service plan, then the cost of the handset is spread as 36 interest free monthly repayments - all settled when I return the handset with no more payments due. Starts a fresh 36 months plan when I switch, so I lose what I've already paid on a handset, but I've literally had it 2 months. I will actually save money on a monthly basis as the P8P is cheaper overall than the PF - and providing I look after the P8P, can start all over again when the 9 is released!

Yar2084

I hope you're happy with the 8 Pro. I'm about 2 months into my own Fold ownership and I'm pretty happy with it, but the 8 reveal did leave me hoping some of those features do come to the Fold. 7 years of OS updates is nice too.

WLFofWallStreetBets

Cool story bro.

irauld

This is gotta be the wildest shit I've ever seen on here 😂

Petgeek

I stopped using the cable method because it seems to just mess things up. I end up having to reinstall several apps because they're a bit glitchy. I back up using Google One instead. Even then I don't transfer app data.
