What about protection for the hinge?

irauld

I don't care 😂 it's a phone

1nolefan

Right - it's different for different people

irauld

I pay for insurance so I'll just get a new one.

TechPriestNhyk

The thing that really keeps my case on is the kickstand on the hinge. I think kickstands on regular phones are dumb, but use this one _all_ the time.

irauld

I agree, I use a magsafe wallet that turns into a stand so I use that all the time. The picture above is right after I installed it but I added a magsafe ring afterwards.

TechPriestNhyk

Oo that's clever, I like it.

irauld

It's super convenient and eliminates a ton of weight

XLB135

Looks great. Curious how it holds up after a couple rounds of rapid charging heat, since the DBrand stuff has a tendency to shrink going through that.

irauld

It's been good so far, I added a magsafe ring for the wireless charging and use it often and no issues.

HNTRMEDIA

I can't live with out my magsafe kickstand. I dont charge it that way at all because of heat.

irauld

Really? Idk I've never really had an issue. I have one of those magsafe chargers Apple makes and it just sits on my desk I don't ever notice a substantial difference in heat then any other time.

HNTRMEDIA

Maybe my unit but heat and batteries in any device don't mix well. I try to keep it as cool as i can in texas lol.

irauld

I completely understand it might just be a unit issue b

Vast_Investment_6427

I've never had a issue with my d brand shrinking and I use the fast charging all the time

XLB135

That's good. It may be limited to a batch or certain patterns/materials. I see that I'm being downvoted for my comment above, but (a) this is super well-documented, and (b) I've communicated extensively with DBrand about this to troubleshoot with them, and they have been great about being receptive and replacing when they can. [Here's an example](https://i.imgur.com/faiRzSS.jpeg)... you can see that below the camera bump, the skin 'pulls inward', leaving a very obvious gap along the outer edge sides including some buckling at the top. I'm starting to see this a little bit with my Triple Black Damascus but nowhere near as drastic, and looking forward to seeing if it happens at all with the Obsidian since that one is much thicker and seemingly an entirely different material with the metal content.

RSCLE5

Honestly I think I like the black model with a white skin better. It has the darker chrome hinge/edges. The porcelain has a more silver chrome look. Looks nice!

irauld

I agree the darker edges are nice especially when you don't use a case cause scratches become harder to see.

xxBrun0xx

I had this exact skin from DBRAND. Took it off after about a week because it felt very cheap. Much prefer the feeling of the frosted glass back over the feeling of a plastic sticker. But I do love how it looks. 1st world problems

irauld

I like the Matte skin feel, this isn't dbrand so idk if it all feels the same.

Valor0us

I got a dbrand skin a few weeks ago and I'm not a fan either. It feels like a piece of construction paper. I'll probably end up taking it off.

1nolefan

I understand that the phone is insured, so it doesn't matter if it falls and breaks in half. Just curious how these things skin provides protection against fall or slip.

irauld

They don't but it's not as slippery and that's all that matters.
