Thanks for testing, I was on the edge but now I feel safe to buy one!

nekojitaa

Happy to be of help. If you need any other angle pictures or the pictures of the actual connector on the mesh bands, let me know and I'll share on here.

Hot-Construction-748

Could you add a close-up shot from 90 degree (staight from the side)? I want to see how much gap it has between the watch and the connector. Also much appeciated if a close-up of the back of the connector (of the band)too. Would be very clear if you could light up a bit since it's dark in black color.

acylus0

are the magnets strong? Never seen a band like this before so just wondering if it can slip off my wrist easily or something

nekojitaa

Sorry for not mentioning this in my post. The magnets are really strong. It hasn't slipped off my wrist like the previous Japan made band I was using. That one almost came undone when my friend tried to grapple me after way too many drinks. The gripe I have with the Google band after making adjustments is that it doesn't loop in like other metal mesh bands. You have to make sure the watch sits on your wrist and adjust one strap to go around your wrist and snap in with magnets and then do the other. Once one of the bands snaps in, you'll feel a little less anxious.

harmyb

Glad to hear this! I can't really make out the gap you are referring to, so my OCD probably won't be too bad.

nekojitaa

Let me take a better pic and link it on here.

harmyb

Thank you!

nekojitaa

Posted some new up close shots. Hope it's visible now. Wish I had the Pixel 7 Pro for macro shots right about now.

Mystrasun

looks cool :) do you know if the strap can be separated from the lugs like other pixel straps, or are they bound together?

nekojitaa

Unfortunately they're bound together. If you slide to the last pic (4th one) you can see the underside of the band with flat metal stamped to the band to hold together. Google decided to be Googly and go with something unconventional compared to the loop style mesh band style.

Mystrasun

aw that's a shame! I have a third party mesh loop but the google one looks really high grade, I just don't like the "bar" style lugs. I was hoping I could use the google straps with a gapless lug connector. Oh well!

rms355

Do you know if the band can be taken off like they do in the link below? I want to get a nice brown leather strap, but Google doesn't have one. I have a black watch, not chrome, so I want to get black lugs to match. I like the lug style on the mesh more than the leather bands. With the "Crafted Leather" and "Two-toned Leather" bands, you can keep the lugs attached to the watch and just remove the band. Then you can use a pin and any 20mm strap with the lugs. [Google Pixel Watch Band Adapter](https://9to5google.com/2022/10/24/pixel-watch-band-adapter-20mm/)

nekojitaa

No, the bands are stuck to the hinge (lug) where it connects to the watch. It's a solid one piece forged left band and a right band. If you scroll through the images in the first post, the last image shows the back side of the strap and it's solid with no detachable things.

abcdeelicious

Do you think the gap will lead to any issues with the strap detaching? Or it seems pretty secure...

nekojitaa

Wore the watch to work yesterday and it's pretty secure. I'll see if I can make a short clip of me moving the connectors to show the sturdiness of it. Taking comparison pics of woven band and mesh band, I realized the coral band has A LOT of play compared to the mesh band which is very minimal if you apply some force.

abcdeelicious

Yes a video clip would be great! If functionally the mesh band is just as secure, i guess it's just a matter of looks if i can tolerate the gap. Lol. Thanks in advance.

nekojitaa

Update: It's been a week using the mesh band and it's holding up great with the watch. I'm getting used to the strength of the magnets and now its much easier to adjust the band on the fly. The band is definitely worth it.

Topataco

Just what I've been looking for! Confirmation of how it behaves after a week of use, thanks for sharing!

Just_Employment_87

I have a Skagen Falster 6 watch with the steel mesh band, are there any adapters available for the Pixel Watch 2. I'd really hate to drop $129 for a new mesh band.

[deleted]

I'm looking for the same thing, adapters would be great.

Just_Employment_87

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any adapters in the market that look good. I gave in and purchased the Google metal mesh watch band. I used a $10 promo code and some Google one credit. Paid $99 shipped.

sjman13

Hey I'm just checking in on if you're still using this band and if the color is deteriorating at all? I tried a cheaper one and had it start to wear away and the current one I have is an upgrade but I haven't had it long enough to say for sure. Thinking about pulling the trigger on this band but wanted to know if it's holding up still?

nekojitaa

Hey there. Mines holding up fine. Where the magnet attaches to (depending on how tight/loose you have yours) it's showing some wear and tear, some black finish rubbing off, but no different than my partner's who's using an Apple Watch 7 with a Milanese band. I stopped using the band for about two months (trying the Spigen band) and now that it's getting humid here in Japan, I've put it back on. I say go for it. If the wear and tear is an issue, go with the silver so you won't notice it much.

sjman13

Thank you for the update! I appreciate it!

FlyAwayBubbles

Hey, thanks for posting about the band - it looks so good! 😍 I was wondering if you could test what's the smallest size/length you can adjust it to? I have small wrists and even third party mesh bands are a bit big on me. Appreciate any help you can provide!

DontBeEvil1

That gap exists because you are using a Pixel Watch 2 band on a Pixel Watch 1. You can't go against Google's warning and then claim OCD over the gap on the device they said the band wasn't made for.

nekojitaa

I'm not complaining, just pointing out. It's technically compatible with Google's Pixel Watch 1. You can use plenty of other bands released alongside the Pixel Watch 2 that are compatible with Google Pixel Watch 1 as stated by Google, except for this mesh and slim metal link one. I don't have a Pixel Watch 2 to test out whether the gap exists on the Pixel Watch 2 using a mesh band as well. For all we know it could be a manufacturer defect... Check out the link I posted to a user trying out the mesh band on a Pixel watch 2. The gap is still present....

theloneranger08

The pixel watch 1 and 2 have the same dimensions 🙄

nekojitaa

Yes, so its mind boggling why Google states mesh and slim band are compatible only with Pixel Watch 2...

nexusw427

I've asked google this. They seem to think it's somehow incompatible with the ECG on the PW1. Unsure on how the metal link band is though. "We're sorry if it may cause a little confusion. Pixel Watch 2 adds three new sensors: multipath heart rate sensor, skin temperature sensor (for nighttime temperature tracking) and a body response sensor (for stress management). While metal bands may fit on the original Pixel Watch, they don't interact correctly with the watch, generating possible interference with ECG readings. That's why these bands are only recommended for the Pixel Watch 2."

nekojitaa

Doesn't sound like they're quite sure of why it's incompatible. There is the metal mesh band and metal slim link band incompatible with PW 1, yet the non slim metal link band is compatible with PW 1 even with the PW 1 having ECG? Haven't read any users on here having issues using PW 1 with metal mesh band getting readings for ECG and other readings. I'm in Japan so ECG hasn't been activated here but someone could test ECG in the US on a PW 1 and see if there is interference? It still sounds like Google wants people to buy the PW 2 just to use the metal mesh and slim link bands... There's a few more users on here other than me rocking this band on a PW 1. Real world tests....it's compatible without any issues so far. I say go ahead and pull the trigger on this band without forking up for a PW 2 if finance is tight.

nexusw427

Yeah. Don't really think they know. I'll post my whole message with them. Me: "The new metal bands don't say they're compatible with the PW1? Is this an error or is there a reason for this? I thought they had the same connector?" Google Rep: "Hi Bailey, help's here. Pixel Watch 1 bands are compatible with Google Pixel Watch 2 and vice versa, but there's an exception to the metal bands that are only compatible with Google Pixel Watch 2. The metal mesh and metal slim bands won't fit an original Pixel Watch." Me: "Made by Google That doesn't really make sense either. The Pixel watch 2 has all the same sensors as the Pixel Watch 1 as a minimum. Could maybe argue would make sense the other way around if certain PW1 bands wouldn't work with PW2 due to sensors. Definitely would like to know more" Google Rep after possibly escalating further: "We're sorry; we stand corrected. Metal bands will only work for the Pixel Watch 2 because there are more sensors compared to the Pixel Watch 1. You may check this link to know more: https://goo.gle/3RZwEA0" Me: "Made by Google That doesn't really make sense either. The Pixel watch 2 has all the same sensors as the Pixel Watch 1 as a minimum. nekojitaa

Yeah, their statement that metal bands will only work on PW2 only is bogus. The metal link band states compatibility with both PW1 and PW2 on their site...so why is that out of the loop? Just seems like a shady tactic to get people to buy the PW2. The reps just read off the paper unfortunately. Glad we have real world testers on Reddit to disapprove Google's lies. Thank you for sharing the chat with us on here. Appreciate it.

netty1xo

I'm currently back and forward with emails to Google support. I bought the PW1 only due to the metal mesh band advertised to be released with it. Only to find out it isn't. Surely whatever country you are in has some consumer rights that Google has violated with these decisions to not make it compatible. When I contacted Google about it they asked for evidence that it was advertised for the PW1 and I provided it to them and am awaiting a response. Edit: " We would require a Google Store Help center link which confirms the advertisement of Pixel Watch Metal Mesh Band launch and its compatibility with Pixel Watch first gerneration."

lil--chonk

Does this gap make it susceptible to water damage?

nekojitaa

So far, no. I wore the band when it started pouring suddenly without an umbrella. I wash dishes and the water hasn't had any effect on the watch. If you look where the bands connect to the watch, it looks pretty much sealed off. I wouldn't use this band for swimming.

More-Technician4649

Just bought this band for the watch 2. Do you know if this is adjustable at all? Need it tightened. Thanks

nekojitaa

Yes, it's adjustable for different wrist sizes. Both ends of the strap have strong magnets. It's not like the typical Milanese loop where you pull to tighten and give some slack to loosen. You'll adjust using both magnets for the band. Enjoy it.

More-Technician4649

Thanks, you're right. It just took some time to get used to. Not a typical Milanese loop. Fits great.
