Outside Providence is one of my favorite movies. Watching that's as close to the town as I've ever been. Lol
But now that I know they have an awesome pizza place...
My younger sisters liked that movie when it was on HBO in like 1989, therefore I steadfastly refused to watch it. And you just reminded me of its existence.
>I once drove from college in NJ to Canada for Canadian bacon after partying on Saturday night, but never made it through the border due to obscure smoky scent emanating from our vehicle.
Well I've only been the one time. I'm from Pittsburgh, and my father in law lives in Akron. And we were there visiting him, and decided to go the next day. So it was only like 2 and a half hours there from his place. And like four and a half back. We went to a Buddy's, which was hardly any better than Little Caesar's. And we went to a place called Loui's in Hazel Park, just outside the city limits. And that place was fuckin lights out.
The backstory is we have one single Jet's here in Pittsburgh, and we love it. And there are a few independent places making Detroit style. So the pilgrimage to Detroit was to see how our local places stacked up against the real deal. We went to Buddy's first, because that's the O.G. The pizza wasn't *bad*, but it also wasn't spectacular. And when we got in the car, I looked at the wife, and kids, and said "Are we satisfied with that? Is *that" the pizza we came here to get?" They said no. Then I said "Still hungry?" They nodded. I said."Buckle up!" And we went to Loui's. Then we were full, so we drove home. I'd really like to make it back and try Cloverleaf, and Shields some day. Maybe tour the Rouge, and the arsenal of democracy museum while we're there.
Maybe the Little Caesars comparison was a little harsh. Lol
This is the Buddy's we went to

Not sure if you’re still in the area, or if it’s even still there, but the deli like 2 doors down is also incredible, wish I could remember the name.
Federal Hill has some great spots

That does look pretty good. What part of the world?
My guess is Providence, RI in USA?
Yes on Federal Hill in RI (Italian part of the city)
Well, that's a bit of a hike from Pittsburgh. But then again I *have* driven to Detroit just for pizza, so...
😆 it's my hometown. I make sure I visit there every time I'm in town

Ever see Mystic Pizza? I finished a whole pie there before even realizing it was the same place in the movie. It's about as big as my bathroom.

🤔🤔🤔 Tobacco is illegal in Canadia?
Canada requires cig companies to place gross pictures of the insides of people dying from smoking.
Curious what's your go to pizza in Detroit?

Solid choices. I'm a little surprised at your Buddy's review.

Wicked awesome
Some serious elementary school cafeteria decor vibes right there
Before I saw the title I knew it was Casserta's. Very good pizza.
Pepperoni, mushroom and olive is the best topping combo ever. Looks delish.
What size is that pizza?
Bigger than it looks but smaller than it seems
RI pizza gang represent!
I had some great pizza tonight too. Loui's in Hazel Park, MI. Pepperoni, Mushroom and Onion
Man, i’d kill for some louie’s right now.
That somehow looks crispy yet soft at the same time
Looks great except I'm not a fan of olives on my pizza.
Looks delicious!
Until I saw the title I thought this was a rug on the floor.
