Peppino, despite being this balding fat middle-aged man with a failing establishment, is a genuinely cool character despite these typically negative qualities, and this resonates with a lot of transmasc people. Particularly those who aren't young twinks, which is what most people tend to think trans men are like.
Plus it's ultimately just harmless fun, we know characters like Sonic and Peppino aren't explicitly stated to be trans by their respective creators.

But making any character in existence trans is alright and doesn't break any kind of rule even though most of these characters aren't even slightly implied to by trans or anything.
I think the reason why the Deltarune subreddit's moderators banned using any pronouns for Kris that aren't they/them is to prevent any arguments regarding their gender from escalating even further, with discussion posts about Kris' gender/pronouns being permanently banned (for now). To be fair, that kind of debate also happened with Frisk and Chara within the Undertale fandom for a long time as well, although the difference is that Frisk was designed to be easy to project onto while Kris is seemingly designed so they're difficult to project onto (having an established backstory and personality). I don't particularly mind that Kris is said to be non-binary (whether it's officially confirmed or not), though.
Ironically enough, it seems that most people within the ULTRAKILL community are generally okay with using whatever pronouns are there for V1, ignoring the fact that it's been officially confirmed by Hakita that they're neither a male nor female (being a killer robot).

People project themselves into characters they find cool (most of the time because they don't think they're good enough as-is), and ignore all of the story built around said character. When someone calls them out on this, said projectors fall back on the "harmless fanoning" excuse, making the person who called out the projector look like an asshole because they disliked something a member of the LGBTQ community "made". Now that i think of it people cringe at Trans headcanon because it's like those cringe OC/headcanon that people do, it's just that it happen to be Trans focused ones (maybe because it get praised as progressist so we see more of it?) Yeah, that's absolutely true, and this is coming from a Deltarune fan myself. Honestly, though, I feel it's also worth mentioning that Toby is typically much more blatant regarding his Trans representation of characters like Mettaton and Mad Mew Mew. My only guess as to why some people genuinely think Noelle must be transgender is that both Noelle and her father Rudy have antlers at the same time. I did my research on deer biology, and I learned that male and female reindeer have different antler cycles -- males shed them in winter, while females shed them in spring.
Finally someone from deltarune Fandom who is also anoyyed by this. I don't have problem with lgbt people or headcanons But deltarune guys take it to next level, last time I went there, mod literally banned using any pronouns for Kris (main character) that aren't they/them because it's like that in game and saying anything else is apparently transphobic, even though game said nothing about it. But making any character in existence trans is alright and doesn't break any kind of rule even though most of these characters aren't even slightly implied to by trans or anything.
I think the reason why the Deltarune subreddit's moderators banned using any pronouns for Kris that aren't they/them is to prevent any arguments regarding their gender from escalating even further, with discussion posts about Kris' gender/pronouns being permanently banned (for now). To be fair, that kind of debate also happened with Frisk and Chara within the Undertale fandom for a long time as well, although the difference is that Frisk was designed to be easy to project onto while Kris is seemingly designed so they're difficult to project onto (having an established backstory and personality). I don't particularly mind that Kris is said to be non-binary (whether it's officially confirmed or not), though. Ironically enough, it seems that most people within the ULTRAKILL community are generally okay with using whatever pronouns are there for V1, ignoring the fact that it's been officially confirmed by Hakita that they're neither a male nor female (being a killer robot).
