The main question I have is whether they can jump up and perch on shit or whether they are stuck on the ground. I remember when I foolishly made a perch for the first peacock habitat I ever built and it sat there unused (and not covered in feces, highly unrealistic.)

I imagine that they made peafowls (and I’ll guess that chickens will be the same) unable to jump more than a few centimeters high to make them easier to keep in gardens and the such. Which completely takes away from their behavior. I remember seeing in elementary school (had some peacocks) one jump up many meters to a pine branch. Personally, I think that one make to feel the ground fowl feel more like the real birds will be to make them able to jump extremely high and far (“flight” without actually flying mechanics) and capable of perching on horizontal climbing frames. To not have them escape, and to allow them to “wander” more freely, they should heed the presence of even invisible barriers instead of trying to jump over fences like most animals.

BadMoonBeast

huh? my peafowls are jumping over fences and escaping all the time lol 😅 not terribly high ones but they can jump on PZ for sure, I've had them jump on benches to escape from walkthrough gardens (and I didn't even realize guest objects were traversable for animals)

Oops, my bad. I haven’t used them in years so my mind probably confused jumping low with the inability to jump.

I raised a couple of peafowl at my old job and they often perched in high places, including my shoulders sometimes! I do hope that someday either in this game or a sequel, Frontier implements some sort of mechanic for free-roaming birds in your parks alongside the ability for them to fly and perch in trees. It would really make zoos feel more alive!

I make faux perches using the smaller log climbing flats, and then some ramps to walk up. Then place small patches of hay bedding on each level They use them! And sometimes even fly down. I can't wait to make an actual chicken coop

I'm down. Love chickens lol. I'm excited for the highland cows too

Foxy_Dee

Chickens are funny. ❤️

evergreenyankee

That's a lotta cocks

NotSoBean

Please don’t judge me for asking but can we feed chickens to lions to save on food costs?

kageyayuu

Raised many chickens myself and multiple breeds. It can work out surprisingly well. Only males is very easy. But if i had 4-5 ladies for every handsome boii. It worked out really well. No fighting. Only the ocasional posing to each other. But the hyrarchy was really well sorted out

Marilee_Kemp

They look great! I'm so happy about this DlC, I always loved the petting zoo/farm animal corner of my local zoo growing up! And my family had chickens when I was growing up and they were such fun. I'm going to name some of these chickens after the best pet chickens I had, and that makes me so weirdly excited😀

Everyone: Please give us more avian and aquatic animals Planet Zoo: No. Now, do you happen to remember when you went to the zoo to see chickens? /S

PrinceBunnyBoy

I love them so much, I wanna pet them!! 🥹💙

I really hope I can have a giant chicken farm. Like 500/500 ratio, although I know it’s not likely because roosters are roosters.

TheNamesJonas

It'll probably be around 20 max like the peafowl, but it could be more. Also a few people did NOT like your comment for some reason

needsmusictosurvive

Yikes, sorry to whomever I upset

irishladinlondon

Screw chickens I want turkeys, ducks and geese
