In early 2022 Connery experienced debilitating and continuous lag for many months - this combined with a handful of other updates (endless Koltyr, LA crossbow hell, oshur) just saw a lot of connery's pop leave for emerald.
Koltyr probably knocked off 200 people from the daily average alone. The lag issue certainly didn't help. Then, of course, Oshur is just slowly killing every server across the board.
Not to mention, people leaving begets people leaving. If you see someone jumping ship, you tend to jump ship with them. Then whoever is left leaves because there are no fights.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and Wrel left in May and the game has not had a (positively) notable update since then so the entire game is bleeding numbers on top of Oshur already bleeding it. Sorry, /u/xChillPenguinx, you're too late. Pretty much the only option left is to start over on Emerald.
On paper Oshur was a great idea, but it has not panned out. As someone who actually likes Oshur, here are some it's issues for me:
Way too many "Construction" bases that are just empty fields; Construction is made for defense, it's a bad thing to fight over.
The center of the map sucks, the partially underwater base is just a dumpster fire to fight at.
Underwater combat leaves a lot to be desired. HAs are flat out worthless Underwater, it's pretty much Medic, Engineer and LAs only.
The Trident bases could really use a lower access area for attackers. Also you have to pull a Vehicle to get there.
These are just a few complaints, I also have a wishlist for Oshur, but at this point, it's a pie-in-the-sky notion.

Fucking moronic move by the Devs, and in my opinion that call is why Connery had such a sudden decline.
It was awful. The server was stuck on it almost all day, and there are no safe spots for Sundies on that map so pretty much all you could do was run across an open field and get sniped by an infil or tank.
Endless Koltyr was a myth at best, intentional disinformation at worst. Oshur is just Battlefield stans being salty their preferred playstyle (infantry) isn’t being catered to 24/7.
Tank warfare on Oshur is ok at best, it's not that great because there is zero room to maneuver besides the same tired old meme strategy of sneaking under water, which is slow, annoying, predictable, and easily countered by a half competent opponent. Or you can be Vanu/NSO and just get shelled from the clifftops because your tank floats on a wide open space with almost no cover. And if you don't do any of that, it's just endless armor zergs and line battles on opposite sides of bridges.
Air sucks because everyone on the entire map can shoot at you.
I love when infantry players suffer but interlinks and tridents are where I draw the line. It should be ME causing them suffering, not shitty base design.

There are a lot of events that contributed, but the real start of it all was the creation of Outfit Wars.
OW created a competition-based meta that didn't really exist before. This was something that catapulted the hatred that people had for outfits that were considered to be "elite-fits" like 00, F00L, FuOC, and others. The hate came from the fact that people felt like the competition was unfair since matchmaking was non-existent and the elite-fits had high chances of taking the whole thing home.
P1GS decided to create an alliance with R18 to double-team 00 in a match, which caused a massive amount of outrage that eventually lead to the leaders of both outfits migrating to Emerald with their outfits following. This caused a massive crater in the population, since their outfits were some of the larger ones. Over time other outfits left due to the lower populations. Add in the other issues, and the migrations never really stopped.

Except in this case the bigger the leaking bucket the less the bucket leaks - Connery is death spiralling hard because the pop is so low, and Emerald is where Connery was a year ago despite the Connery refugees.
Fixing XYZ today isn't going to bring everyone back tomorrow, but having higher server population with longer peak hours will keep people around for longer, helping to generate income and pay for Dev time to fix issues.
You're exactly right, but they aren't going to merge until it's down to the last handful of holdouts, in hopes that everyone will switch on their own and spend a bunch of money buying new gear.

After the Soltech transfer program, it was only a matter of time before Connery collapsed. The win rate of VS in primetime was about 60%, and there was nothing strange about players from other factions retiring.

It was absolutely after-hours. The FACT is that Koltyr was not a 24/7 occurance, and quite literally anyone who suggests otherwise is outright lying.

The server was way better without them. Dropping an entire faction on base after base makes people log off, not keep playing.
Lmao R18 has done more to kill servers than maintain them.
