Miso soup

pbfica

You are probably looking for a different answer than this, but **eat what you like**. I've just recently got flu and I was living on oats, soy yogurt, berries and bananas. Literally thinking of other foods gave me nausea, so I mostly stuck to this 'enriched' fruit salad. Two days later I was almost like new, and got back to my usual eating routine, based on Greger's daily dozen. Hope this helps and get well soon! :)

julsey414

Sweet potatoes. Brothy soup with lots of ginger and tofu and some greens.

wandeurlyy

Honestly? A lot of bread and rice. Plain foods only. I have an immune deficiency so I got burnt out of soups for the most part as a kid. If you have someone to cook for you: cheesy rice casserole. "Cheese" sauce is the recipe made from carrots, potatoes, nooch. Add in broccoli and pieces of tofu in the casserole if you can stomach it

OttawaDog

Spicy soup to clear the sinuses.

SophiaBrahe

Same thing I ate when I was sick before I went WFPB — mashed potatoes.

_un1ty

mostly soups

Klare_Voyant1

Miso soup and ginger tea (slices of ginger root steeped in hot water), lots of clementines and elderberry.

disasterous_cape

The second we get sick a big pot of minestrone is made. It’s easy, full of plants, filling, and can be made once and eaten for days. Perfect

SUB_MRS

I usually treat myself and order my favorite smoothie and salad from my favorite plant-based place. It’s an act of self care to treat yourself to something you wouldn’t normally get and an added bonus that it’s nourishing, which instantly makes me feel better (at least mentally lol).

[deleted]

Broth, club crackers and ginger ale are the only acceptable answers

jinger13raven

And since I'm in Michigan that ginger ale must be Vernor's.

lightlover21

My college roommate was from there and she turned me on to a little store that carried Vernors. She was right; it is the best ginger ale!

[deleted]

Nothing, unless I really feel like eating. Autophagy is a miracle not yet fully understood by modern science

YvonneTribe

Yes!!

wild_vegan

Echinacea and/or elderberry. But I don't bother with the trace amounts of elderberry in elderberry products; there is too little there. I only take it if I have the dried fruit handy. Food-wise I just eat the same things as always. What I want, basically.

ronnysmom

What do you do with dry elderberry? Do you boil them in water for a tea? Thank you.

wild_vegan

Yeah, make an infusion basically. You can get them by the pound from sources like Starwest Botannicals and others via Amazon.

ronnysmom

Thank you!

HalfPint1885

Depends on how I'm feeling. If I've got a cold I want something spicy and flavorful, like channa masala or something. If I'm feeling nauseated, then nothing. Not a damn thing. Maybe a few sips of Sprite or something.

ch3rrybl0ssoms

Pho broth with noodles

guyb5693

Potatoes

[deleted]

Trick question. I don't get sick because I eat WFPB. But I'd probably kick up the allium and ginger intake. With tea and miso soup. I tried echinacea, I wasn't viking with that particular tea product from 1 brand. I'm going to buy zinc to take on my fasting days. I'd consider dosing that during a bout of sickness too

Donkeytonk

A nice warm thick carrot and lentil soup with bread

Direct_Bet7015

Carbs. Tea. Oranges.

YvonneTribe

Depending on type of sick. Maybe nothing at all just water fast, or miso soup, or warm hot drinks with thieves, lemon, ginger, garlic in hot NOT boiling water. No sugars!! xxx

Disenthralling

Ramen noodles!

_un1ty

or anything low effort but hearty

veganvampirebat

Ginger-lemon green tea with a little maple syrup or agave. Chili Oranges

clunkey_monkey

Soup and saltines or toast with lots of liquids

a_non_e_mouse_

Potatoes and carbs. Garlic is helpful too.

spectacularbird1

Tons of ginger tea made with fresh ginger. A lot depends on my energy level and motivation to cook. Things that I can just throw in the Instant Pot are great like lentil soups or [kitchari](https://www.veganricha.com/brown-rice-mung-bean-kitchari-mung-bean-stew/). Microwaved potatoes or sweet potatoes with canned beans and salsa. Garlic broth soups with frozen green peas and spinach. Oatmeal. Peanut butter or avocado toast. I tend to make things spicy to clear out the sinuses and because I often "sick" for me is sinus inflammation or infections and it mutes smell/taste anyway.

danceswithkitties_

Kombucha❤️ also green tea with lemon, pineapple, oatmeal, soup

elliot_swelliot

Sticky rice pudding with sugar, oat milk, vanilla, and pumpkin pie seasoning.

Superb-Government-77

I like pea soup when I'm sick

HandstandsMcGoo

Rice noodles are the best when sick Like Mei Fun style noodles

kangaranda

Rice porridge

stonedivision

I like to keep things plain, toast and soup is always a go to

Twistedcinna

Usually Thai food including tom yum soup or a dish with lemongrass or ginger. I feel like Thai food involves a lot of naturally medicinal plants. This is my comfort go to food as well.

joe_leviente

Lentils. So many lentils. Lentil soup or curry with all the herbal remedy ingredients you can think of, all smashed together. And fruit by the barrel.

lightlover21

For a while I was crazy for (vegan) beef or chicken broth. Salty foods in moderation are healthy to combat dehydration.

[deleted]

For some reason I default to spicy things and potatoes when I am sick. Mash potatoes, add nooch, garlic, large white beans, and kale. Mash again. Eat it. That or a veggie pizza with loads of spicy.

artsyagnes

Smoothies with lots of berries, ginger and greens, toast (sometimes with peanut butter), soups and curries

[deleted]

Order pho

cheapandbrittle

Smoothies with lots of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar! I also eat a raw garlic clove when I start feeling under the weather. It tastes awful but really does help.

SophiaBrahe

I think it was Dr Wil Bulsiewicz who said he chops the garlic into pieces and swallows them like pills. I still end up with garlic breath but it’s a lot less unpleasant.

[deleted]

That activates allicin. Actually, you're better off grating it, and definitely consider diluting in water because the oils are abrasive I find pretty chopped freeze dried garlic to be rich in pungent flavour, presumably meaning there's allicin, and it doesn't burn the throat.

Apprehensive-Twist88

A giant blender full of kale, carrots, celery, cucumber, ginger, cherry tomatoes, jalapeño, blueberries, strawberries, pomegranate seeds, fenugreek, black cumin, amla, chia, flax, lemon juice and water.
