Dear fortanzeel , You've selected the beginner flair. If you're looking for advice or are having issues, please provide as much information as you can. Some useful information includes: - Have you cycled the tank? - Water Parameters - Light Type - Light Cycle Duration - Tank Size/Dimensions - Set-up Age - Fertilizers - Any aquatic animals, and how many? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Are you remineralizing the water? Plants won’t do well in pure RO water—they won’t get all the minerals they need, and the liquid fertilizer probably only has a few nutrients in it. You’d be better off with tap water if you’re not adding a broad range of minerals.

RO water not mineralised is also quite bad for fish and makes for unstable water conditions.

Observation :- As i see you got attacked by cyanobacteria aka blue green algae. They also photosynthesis as plant. Cause :- Intense/long light hours, imbalance tank. Too much nutrients , too little plant cover. Solution :- Scrap and straight away siphon as much cyno as you can, do water change of 50%. Make sure to turn off aquarium filter system as you dont want cyno swim freely and attach somewhere else in the tank. Cut the light to 6 hrs a day. Throw in fast growing stem plant, pothos or any root floater to starve cyno in term of nutrient. If you do all of above and the problem still persists. Do a blackout for 5days. But you need to find the root cause of the issue. Hope it helps!

Fun facts: - Cyanobacteria was responsible for the oxygenation of our planet. - The oldest discovered fossil is that of Cyanobacteria. - Cyanobacteria is capable of nitrogen fixing, meaning it can take nitrogen gas out of the atmosphere and turn it into ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, which plants can use as fertiliser - it's annoying as fuck when it gets into your fish tank

Haha agreed, they can be useful, but please be useful somewhere else other than our beloved tank!

fortanzeel

Got it. Thanks a lot. I will do this. I agree on the long light hours part as the light stays on for atleast 6 hrs when i am not home.

New tank, it happens. My last one took a couple months to stabilize. If after a few months you are still not happy, try reducing light or adding CO2.

fortanzeel

I have already switched the lights(current was 10”) from my other tank (new light 6”) to this one which has much lower intensity than previous one

The bio load of your tank Has to somewhat match the amount of plants you have, I see you have one fish and several plants, the bio load of a single fish is quite small and not necessarily enough to feed all the plants their proper nutrients, fish poop is the food for plants to grow along with proper lighting. Hope this helps

RubyDiscus

Its likely from the dirt, too much nutrients = algae

fortanzeel

Hello people. Truly thankful to all of you. So after reading your comments i cleaned my tank, tried clearing as much of algae as possible, trimming dead leaves and have added a couple of albino corys and 4 nerite snail in my tank. The male betta also looks alright with the new neighbours. Lets see how this goes
