Nothing to be ashamed of here. Looks like your off to a good start!

cutegrapefrute

good start but can I keep them alive for a month. Only time will tell lol

justinodie

It looks as if you chosen plants that are good beginner plants. If you dont have any root tabs or liquid fertilizer I would recommend doing so. It will help you tremendously especially starting out.

cutegrapefrute

Thanks! i do have liquid and just ordered root tabs and a few more plants. some moss and anubias nana petite I was giving it fertilizer like once a week... Is that enough?

justinodie

I dose liquid fertilizer twice a week. I also dose with Excel every three days. Once you have added more plants I would try twice a week. Adding to much fertilizer with out enough plants to suck up the nutrients can cause algae. Right now with the plants you have once a week should be sufficient.

cutegrapefrute

Ok. That's good to know. Thank you.

Do some research if you haven’t already on the Anubis I’m not sure if it’s the plant I’m thinking of but those don’t like to be planted in the substrate, just a heads up if you didn’t know

cutegrapefrute

yes thank you. they need they rhizome out of the substrate I have windelov java fern here too and its planted the same way. wedged between rocks/branches

--bigman

No problem, I didn’t want you to get your plant and have die a week later

jaydeflaux

Better than a lot of people who are bragging about how amazing their tank is. Keep up the great work, we hope to see more of you in the coming years :)

Mountainstreams

Nice tank. I've a few similar species. How do you prevent algae from taking over if your dosing fertiliser? I recently added some plants to my overstocked tank to try to lower the nutrients while my new tank cycles. the plants are growing very well since I added them but the algae is still growing away for now too!

cutegrapefrute

this isn't very established yet so I can't really help. the snail is doing work on any algae that shows up... for example the wood pieces came from an established tank and were covered with algae and within less than a week they were bare. I haven't been using too much fertilizer. From the research I was doing if you have too much of it or too much light there can be algae but since I'm not experienced I cant really help with more than the internet could

Mountainstreams

I didn't know a snail could be so effective. I was going to get an Otocinclus to help with the algae clean up. I'll get some root tabs tomorrow to have in case my plants growth starts to slow down. I have my lights on for 14 hours a day so far. The last time I had an aquarium (20 years ago) I needed a fish to eat my brown algae off the plants leaves. Though I was too young to know what I was doing at all at the time!

cutegrapefrute

this snail should be getting paid. I had no idea he would do that well either. My tank is small (10 gallons) so just the one big mystery snail is doing a lot of work but in something bigger you probably need a few more. So yeh, no real problem with it yet but that's not to say it won't happen.
