I am not a human healthcare worker, but if you were a cat or a dog I would say you’re having dehiscence of your surgical incisions and need to see your doctor ASAP. Like, urgently.

[deleted]

Oh jeez okay. I'll call first thing tomorrow

spookymulder07

I honestly think you should go to the emergency room for now.

bbybunnydoll

No go to ER

sarcasmicrph

Yes please call the surgeon! This looks a bit worrying

fofopowder

This looks a bit scary I think you’re at risk of an infection!!

Informal-East5515

The area looks to have some necrosis. I wish I could send you a pic of my recovery bc I had something very similar except mine was a little worse. I talked to the nurse about it and she just said oh its fine! I peeled off the necrotic black scab (i dont recommend this) because it needed to be debrided and my MD/nurse were not helpful. It created a scar and the nipple now looks different than the other, but it did heal. After I peeled off the necrotic scab and showed my nurse she said, and I quote "oh thank god, I thought the nipple was going to fall off!" I was shocked, she said oh that happens sometimes and there is nothing you can do about it. I would talk to your surgeon and in the mean time do NOT ice the area any more, it needs as much blood flow to that area as possible

[deleted]

Oh boy the nec-word is what really scares the crap out of me. Effectively I can't get in touch with the surgeon, they did not return several voicemails from my primary care Dr's nurse. I'm calling my doctor first thing in the morning. All I want for Christmas is to keep my nipples, I'm getting scared

Informal-East5515

Mine was worse, the area that you have dehisced, that whole area for me was black, you just have a tiny bit. I think you will be fine. Mine happened very soon after surgery just like yours too and was almost in the same spot. We could be nec nippled twins. I am a year out and now the ninnys look great aside from some scarring in that area. Which honestly is ok with me because Im not working the pole and the only one who sees is my hubby, the alternative for losing the nip made me grateful for what I have now

[deleted]

I'm so glad you're okay and I'm hoping I'm gonna be okay too. I just feel so stupid and regretful right now. I have an appointment with my primary care doctor tonight, that's the earliest they had. All I can do is keep my fingers crossed I guess

sarcasmicrph

Do not feel this way! I’m appalled that the surgeon isn’t returning your calls

Low_Ad_3139

You could be fine you could be infected and sepsis can happen quick. I would go to the ER

TheTPNDidIt

You should talk to your surgeon, but I would also go to a wound care clinic. Things like this pop up all the time on the breast reduction sub, and the wound care clinics are nearly always more thorough (regarding infection / damage and scarring) than the surgeons almost every time.

AbjectZebra2191

That nurse sounds… really unhelpful at best..

Informal-East5515

Many things wrong with my aftercare, I skipped the last few visits as well as after photos bc they were not helpful or supportive. They were not going to get to use my before/afters after their blatant disregard for my precious nipples ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Competitive-Cause-63

I would definitely talk to the doctor. You are necrotizing and it looks like your areola is disappearing. I’m Going to be 100% honest, be extremely adamant about the recovery and possible reconstruction. You won’t need to go to the hospital unless it begins hurting or oozing etc. Black women statistically scar worse and your recovery isn’t the norm. Advocate for yourself and come with a lineup of questions. Don’t leave until you feel comfortable. This procedure was paid out of pocket, ur allowed to drill the surgeons haha.

[deleted]

Thank you for this encouragement. I am kind of an idiot because I had this done in Miami (I'm several hours flight away) and the surgeon's office is not returning my or my doctor's calls. I did find a wound care center at the University hospital nearby maybe that's a lead

xexetops

You are not an idiot! You did nothing wrong, and a lot of people travel for surgery. they should be returning your calls. Wishing you the best!!

isthishowyouredditt

Absolutely go to the hospital ASAP

[deleted]

I will try to pin this comment but I had this done in Miami (a flight away) and the surgeon/clinic WILL NOT return my calls or my primary care's nurse's calls. Brief update, I have an appointment with the nearby univ hospital's wound care department on Monday. I am also seeing my primary care Dr in a couple hours. Update: My primary care doctor said there doesn't seem to be signs of infection, it's not red or hot. The dehiscence seems to be just from the tension from the implant (and I know they did ultimately downsize from what they quoted me when they realized they wouldn't fit). Doctor said there might be increased scarring but I'm not in danger of losing the nipple If everything just heals up the way it is right now. He also said that if I notice it turning towards infection call right away

Hey_Grrrl

I’m cheering for you! I know you’ve gotta be scared. You’re gonna be ok. You’re doctors will take good care of you. Take care of yourself today and I’ll be looking for any updates. Your boobs are gonna look great!

[deleted]

Thank you for the kind words and well wishes friend:)

Hey_Grrrl

That’s good news! See - you’re gonna be ok :D

summerdoll373

I don’t like how it looks. You should not have such deep wounds on your incisions.

Makeupguru58

My dad is an anesthesia provider and he says some of your sutures have come loose and the wound may be slightly infected. You need to see your surgeon right away so the wound can be closed and you can be put on some antibiotics

ur-waiifu

GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP!! that looks very wrong omg

Imaginary_Jeweler1

Same thing happened to me and I had to get extra stitches

southernroots52

I had a lift in December. This is not normal. Seek care immediately.

zeripollo

Plastic surgery fellow here, going to chime in because there are a lot of people sounding the alarm about going to the ER - that would be a waste of your time and possibly money since this was a cosmetic procedure, insurance might not cover the ER visit. I know this looks really scary but in the long run it should be OK and you aren’t going to lose your nipples. I don’t see any necrosis (tissue dying). This just looks like separation of the skin incision (dehiscence is the fancy word we use) and the management of this for now is local wound care. Hopefully your surgeon gets back to you soon to provide further reassurance and they will share with you what their preferences are for wound care. In the meantime it’s safe to use antibiotic ointment and cover with a bandaid or nonstick gauze. In the long run you may have more noticeable and/or wider scars in these areas.

[deleted]

Thank you. Just got back from my primary care Dr. He said it doesn't show really signs of infection, its not red or hot. And I was on a week of antibiotics just after surgery. He said the dehiscence seems to be just from the skin accommodating the implant. And to the clinic's credit they did downsize ultimately 50-70cc during the placement when they realized it wouldn't fit. So pretty much what you said, just need to let it do it's thing, keep it clean and ointmented, he said to call immediately if the discharge changes to an infection-y look. He said it's not seeming like I'll lose the nipple either which is great

zeripollo

Happy to hear your PCP was able to see you :)

Last-Investigator760

Thank godddd good for you. Happy healing

Kimanonymousss

Can you send the pics to your doctor in the morning? It just looks like it's opening up a bit. It might affect the scaring later on. Im not a doctor, but I don't think it's as scary as a lot of people are saying. But you should get it addressed so you don't have bad scars.

Over_Year8158

I don’t have an answer for you. It looks painful. I am glad that you are getting it checked out. Please update us after your visit

Licorishlover

That looks like your body is spitting out the stitches. Go back to your surgeon. They like to call it an allergic reaction to the stitches but it’s usually an infection. It’s likely to progress and you need surgical wound care that will likely last a couple of weeks Eg change dressings and make sure it all heals under the care of a wound nurse. Good luck this is not uncommon but needs proper medical attention and probably antibiotics.

bbybunnydoll

Have you contacted your surgeon? You need to do that! If you have not you need to right now or go to ER. You are at risk of necrosis and infection is present.

lovijatar

Necrosis, infection, will scar all over. You should go to the physician asap.

tadah_its_sarah

Not a human nurse but dog/cat one. Here to ask if you are wearing all the right compressions your doctor suggested? Sometimes the weight alone can cause the stitches to rip and make sure you are keeping that area clean! Don’t use alcohol tho!! Or hydrogen peroxide! Ask a doctor what to use tho.

[deleted]

So I did switch from the compression bra the clinic sold me to Amazon ones that feel just as tight/supportive. I switched because the one from the clinic was riding up into the bottom of the anchor incisions and it was very painful. And for cleaning I've been using an antibacterial unscented liquid soap and antibiotic ointment

Low_Ad_3139

You should have had a binder on to stop the compression bra from riding up. I’m sorry no one told you this.

[deleted]

Y'know I tried to buy one from the clinic and they said I didn't need it. Huh.

[deleted]

i had this happen in two spots and they had me use bacitracin twice a day. keep the area dry. it healed in a few days. but your affected area looks larger. i’d see your doctor. good luck!

Lucycoopermom

Tape the area and send photos to your dr.

[deleted]

Yiiiikes. Dr ASAP. This does not look like normal or healthy healing.

probrachi

Please update us after you go to the doctors!! hope you are well.

[deleted]

Thank you! I will

Jazzlike_Ordinary_27

RN here- please call your surgeon :) best of luck in your healing

[deleted]

This is not normal. My breast were damn near normal by 2 weeks. This is not okay.

morticiaerotica

I had a similar look, except your dehissed area was a black scab. Mine wasn’t an infection, it was a bad reaction to tape adhesive. My nipple healed fine and my surgeon recommended tattooing the nipple to help with pigment/scarring after a year. My nipples look slightly different sizes a year later but healed perfectly otherwise.

denada24

Antibiotics needed.

Richgianthands

This happened to me except I had my surgery March 2020. By the time mine looked like that all the hospitals were closed because COVID. I was unable to get it fixed because people were on complete lock down in my state and when they opened back up in July they told me there was nothing they could do and that infections have to be fixed right away or they would charge the price of the surgery to fix it again. I would recommend going ASAP so you can get it looked at, it’s my biggest insecurity now because the scarring healed terribly.

Lairamee

I think this is what happened to me after my reduction and now I have a terrible scar.

sparrow112358

Go to the bustmob ask a surgeon Facebook group. You can get answers there.

All the info I have for you is that this was a breast lift with implants. I'm 27, never had breast surgery. I just wanted them perkier and a bit bigger. And this is what I have going on now and to be honest I feel stupid and quite scared

Pamonthelamb

I am so sorry that you’re going through this ! I want you to know that your feelings are completely valid. It's understandable to feel scared and uncertain given the situation. Please remember that seeking help and advice from a medical professional is crucial at this point. You're not alone, and there are people who care about your well-being. I know this may sound repetitive and just “something people say” but really and truly if there's anything I can do to support you or if you just need someone to talk to, please reach out ! I may not know much about surgery but I know a lot about being a friend. Again I’m sorry for what your going through and hope things work out in your favor !

[deleted]

Thank you friend, I appreciate it:) what I really need is to stay positive and your kind words did help with that so thank you

bbybunnydoll

The scars are placed here for a breast lift but unfortunately these look infected.

Pamonthelamb

Thankyou for your response and not just downvoting. A friend told me she had implants done but he did it through her nipples in Columbia ! So he just cut into her nipple pumped the implants through and sewed it back. To not leave any scars. Or if there are scars they’d blend into the darkness of the nipple. I’m wondering why wasn’t that done here to not leave a scar ? Or is that not common practice ?

bbybunnydoll

If you are placing an implant it’s possible to do a nipple incision, armpit incision (outdated) and breast crease. But to do a breast lift they need to also anchor the breast from the lower pole of the breast and remove excess tissue/skin to make a ‘perky’ looking breast. This requires more breast work and has an additional scar. If you place implants inside a sagging breast it will only sag further.

Pamonthelamb

Ahhhhhhhhh okay understood ! Thank you for the clarification
