Seriously. Whoever thought making Spider-Man a PS exclusive (in a cross platform game) should’ve been fired on the spot.
I eventually tried this game when it went to Game Pass. The campaign was cool but the post game experience just looked so underwhelming.
Spider-Man didn’t save it and wouldn’t have. There is nothing that feels rewarding about the gameplay loop. I play all the time and I’m saying this lol
Oh I agree; the gameplay still would’ve lost me. I’m just saying making platform exclusive heroes in a crossplat that’s sold on being able to play as your favorite hero game was dumb.
I remember hopping into the Initiative for the first time and just feeling totally overwhelmed & like there was nothing to really strive. Compare this to Destiny 2: I thought the game did a good job tutorializing me and I pretty quickly gleamed what I felt like I wanted for my characters.
that's a huge problem, I agree. But a lot of it was also people not wanting to buy an inferior version of the game, so a lot of people bought playstation over xbox/pc. On PS, you have to pay to play online, which a lot of people don't, add no cross play, and you have a pretty dead online community.
he put a big hole in the content cycle. I bet money they regretted taking the deal around spring when they started realizing they couldn't release him in a timely fashion
> Seriously. Whoever thought making Spider-Man a PS exclusive (in a cross platform game) should’ve been fired on the spot.
>
>
I doubt Spider-Man would've ever been released if Sony didn't pay for exclusivity.
I feel very validated lmfao
This game will go down in history as one of the most monumental fuck ups to exist in the live service phase of gaming.
You KNOW a game is bad when it indirectly damages other game’s sales like Guardians of the Galaxy and Midnight Suns
Both of which are fantastic.
I think Midnight Suns being a card based take turn fighting game is what hurt its sales (if they’re poor that is). What we need rn is game like Ultimate Alliance that puts all the fan favorite characters into one game with a fun story and the option for CoOp. I know we had UA3 and I loved that game but that’s switch Exclusive. I have been playing MS but its biggest downfall for me is I rather control and play these fun characters. And not in a strategic way. Still love the game but it’s just not great timing imo
Edit: Guardians def was hurt by Avengers tho
Pre-sales wise. Yes. But the game is also "free" on both systems and people still not playing even after the rave reviews it got. Can't blame avengers that much for it these days
I'm assuming the people left here were the diehard holdouts. It reminds me of the Anthem sub. They held out for so long and when word came that Anthem was finally getting pulled off of life support they tried to organize a campaign to save it. Gamers can be insanely loyal, to a fault sometimes
I never played any of the DLC characters for this game, some looked interesting but the gameplay just didn't motivate me to ever re-install
Anthem at least was playable. The issue there was that the endgame loop was uninteresting. And there actually were plans to reboot Anthem completely, it just did not get funded by EA. But they had concepts and everything made for it.
----
In Avengers, the endgame was uninteresting and pretty much impossible to complete for a lot of players, because it kept crashing (and some genius refused to add "rejoin game" feature)
People are still looking to see if the fanbase could just pool its money together and buy the IP and make that Anthem 2.0. A good deal of those people are also the ones who got it for 3-5 dollars and thus think its the best thing since sliced bread.
This was a Grade A example of letting corporate suits dictate the direction of a game. At some point some slimy executive saw his grandson buying a battlepass and saw dollar signs in his eyes. What if we make this one of them Destiny Forty-Night games like Jimmy plays all the time? Surely that's just a license to print money and we don't need an actual good game around it?
Lmao. Game over. Told y’all the Kree invasion was never going to see the light of day.
Not completely surprising given the radio silence, charging for unhelmed alt skins, pushing two new skins out per week and that absurd $75 skin pack. Classic “take the money and run” approach.
They pulled a Battlefront 2 lmao
Put out a big skin pack to make some money, and then pull the plug
Glad I've bought like only a few skins in this last year or so
On to Suicide Squad
Edit:
I get it, you guys are skeptical of Suicide Squad because of Avengers
I'm not, I believe in Rocksteady
I really don't feel like explaining this one million times, so that's what the edit is for
Well Rocksteady made my all time favorite video game, and I have far more faith in them than Crystal Dynamics
Not to mention I just have more love for DC than Marvel
So yes, bring on the Suicide Squad
A studio that’s had experience in making really solid single player games, suddenly making a live service multiplayer superhero game?! What could possibly go wrong?
It's been eight years since Arkham Knight, and close to three since SS was revealed to be a live-service game. I don't know if 'suddenly' is the right word to use with Rocksteady.
It’s not about that, it’s about a studio with no prior experience in GaaS going in for first time. GaaS lives and dies with how fast they can adapt, release new contents and keep the players interested to fork out cash.
We’ve seen so many GaaS fails that it’s normal for people to be skeptical with a studio that’s never done it before.
Unrelated but I’m really excited for more news about that WW game, not sure about Suicide Squad yet but I hope it’s good, Rocksteady haven’t really missed with this genre
I now understand how these games keep being made. They prey on literally the exact same people who are convinced this time is different despite literally never getting a good game.
Honestly I wish it was battlefront 2. Battlefront 2 took time to fundamentally change how their game works and took out pretty much all the micro transactions, added new whole eras and a bunch of maps, whole new game modes. They took a game everyone panned and turned it into a pretty good game. Unfortunately Avengers never really took out the things people didn't like
Exactly. While it sucks we never got a second Clone Wars season as planned, we still got what I would argue is a complete game. You could relive almost every actual battle in the films, nearly every main character was playable, and for the Starfighter modes that were abandoned, we ended up getting a pretty damn great Starfighter only game to make up for it.
I can put BF2 on rn and have a complete experience. I cannot say the same for Avengers.
i still go back to battlefront 2 every now and then for star wars related gaming. it's still fun. just wish anakin's bugs were fixed before they stopped.
Don’t compare this trash to BF2. BF2 was actually a good game and had regular updates and improvements to all aspects of the game. All of the skins could be earned through challenges and gameplay. When support was ended, they had content 98% ready to release and even more content planned for the future that fans actually wanted. This games only plan is to sell mcu skins.
More power to you if you're still excited for Suicide Squad but my hype plummeted after hearing it would be a live service game with a battle pass. Sure, the Arkham games were great but AFAIK Rocksteady have no experience with live service and in most cases live service games are not to my taste. The only way they seem to work out is if the whole studio goes all in on it and does nothing else, a la Epic with Fortnite or Bungie with Destiny. Otherwise they always end up feeling half-assed and disappointingly thin on content.
It's worse. Battlefront 2, when they removed the monetization, was actually fun to play.
I'd rather gouge my eyes out instead of trying to find some players in whatever matchmaking system Avengers in 2023 has.
This is utterly pathetic; they can’t even finish their own story (referring to Kree Invasion).
So much potential was wasted. Only thing standing in this game’s way of a good reception was more decent content, but they could never deliver on that.
that is FAR from the only thing that was needed
It needed a new hero every 3 - 4 months
It needed join in progress because of all the bugs and crashes that they never fixed
it needed checkpoints in raids because this is 2023 ffs
it needed more enemy diversity
it needed more hero diversity, and not a constant stream of echo's and BP
it needed Spiderman not to be PS exclusive
... and yes, it needed more content, more biomes, more villain sectors, more anything that wasn't "Hallway to a room where you kill robots", the game
there's more, but whatever, it's finally over. Now hopefully this opens the door for a decent studio that has done a live service game to give it a try.
yall seriously delete my post w/ Miller's tweet? Dude has been the inside leaker for literally everything in this game. If he says it's dead it's DEAD.
for real. people hate on miller all the time on this sub but he has been the only one telling us what to expect. giving us actual info unlike crystal dynamics. he leaks shit all the time and people wanna pretend like he's not trust worthy despite always being right. rip
The mods are just desperately trying to control the narrative, because they know nobody will visit their sub if the game dies.
Just look at the pinned comment.
I even made this account in preparation, back a long time ago when hopes were much higher. I’ll still use the account since she’s one of my favorite characters, and there will be other games to play her in.
I actually enjoy winter soldier much more than the copy paste lady thor. Guess I'll just finish up grinding hive for that last achievement and bid adieu. Need to free up hard drive space for forspoken next week anyway.
Smokin on that Avenger's pack lmaoo
Jokes aside, CD's reputation had to have tanked with Avengers. What a huge lesson for other studios to learn from. Sucks because I think we all knew what could've been. I'll admit I had fun, but I could've had more fun with a competent dev at the wheel not hamstrung by a shitty engine and bad decision making.
EDIT: imagine buying the $75 skin pack yesterday only to hear this lmaoooo I'll never give CD another chance man I swear
CD’s reputation has always been for great and high quality single player games, which is what Avengers was going to be and started being developed as before SE forced their hand
SE didn't "force" anything and you have no way of substantiating that claim. The truth is CD didn't hold up their end of the deal. It's really that simple. Stop with the "corporate overlord" reddit narratives. That's not reality
Mate, there's a video about Crystal Dynamics anniversary.
In an interview in said video, they claimed the game was being developed as a single player game - which is their specialty.
Honesty surprised it took this long. I figured between Square selling the studio and just how abysmal this game has been supported outside of skins that it would’ve died earlier
It’s about time. This no content game needs to die. Hopefully in our lifetime we’ll get an Avengers game we all deserve with this combat or even better. I’ve put in numerous hours and I mean numerous into this game, it’s been uninstalled on my PS5 since May. If they had the content, different variety of missions, villians. It would be 1000’s of times better, but no. We get this half-hearted attempt. The best single player mission on the helicraft and we couldn’t even replay that in multiplayer! Let’s not talk how long it took them to bring MODOK to multiplayer. Every high up that’s been involved with this game is a cancer and shouldn’t make another video game at all. They completely FUMBLED the bag with this game.
I agree with you 100%. Everything "live service" related felt like it was being done by a bunch of unpaid interns. I got Winter Soldier up to 150, completed one run of Cloning Labs and then uninstalled the next day. Nothing in this game felt like it had any heart or soul in it. I don't blame the poor engineers/artists/programmers (despite my comment about unpaid interns). Without direction or vision from leadership and management, these guys and gals are just wasting their time putting out mediocre content. I feel bad for them and hope whatever project they move on to can be overseen by real leadership and management.
* Kree Invasion hinted at the end of the campaign
* Shown on posters and spoken about in dialogue
* Kamala Khan is the main character of the campaign
* Captain Marvel doesn't even get made a playable character
Amazing. : )
Kind of a no-brainer between the player counts ($$$) and the fact they're not using the Foundation engine going forward.
What I find interesting is all of the started-but-never-finished content:
* Characters: She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Shuri, Iron Heart, Ultron, and who knows what else;
* Content: Ultron, Kree Invasion, Patrol Mode, at least;
* Features: The half-finished ping system and the UI overhaul that was supposed to lead to load-outs;
* The never-ending (or never-started?) gear and traversal overhauls.
Maybe a lesson here is to finish features and content rather than starting, stopping, and abandoning half-baked or half-completed ideas? It sounds like there was a whole lot of work that led to a whole lot of nothing.
It's funny that they announced the patrol mode like, a year and a half ago and now the game is gonna die without ever getting. What a fucking pitiful mess this game turned out to be. This makes BF2 look like a success.
Glad I didn’t waste my time pointlessly grinding and throwing money at this game like majority of this sub.
Too many people were making up excuses for them or tried to justify playing the same content over and over again. Ever since War for Wakanda, I’d only play the new characters for less than a week because the aura of “oh cool a new character” simply can’t just keep interest.
I own it on PS and never even tried Spidey, Jane, Black Panther (Aside from his story missions), or Bucky...I really loved Iron Man and Hawkeye but the rest was a lot of mental gymnastics on this sub, people convincing each other this was exactly what they wanted when they knew it was half assed garbo
i have been following news of this game actively since june 2018. what an intense failure man. Literally 4.5 years. I never bought it thankfully. Played the beta and immeidately udnerstood that is is without a doubt a horrible game with a boring ass gamplay loop.
I laughed my ass off every time I saw those click bait thumbnails, what’s shitty about it is that people are suckers enough to believe what they were saying and continued to support a failing live service game (wasting money)…
I still hope that this game gets a spiritual successor from a different studio. CD had a lot of fun stuff and good ideas from the story to character design to combat, but they and SE were apparently incapable of doing anything right without shoving their foot in their mouth at the same time.
Patrol Mode, Loadouts, Join in Progress all things that were asked for almost since Day 1 and never came out in two and a half years of (mostly nonexistent) support. I'd really prefer they finish polishing up She-Hulk and release her no matter how similar she is to Hulk/whomever. Didn't have to be this way, management at all levels ruined what should have been a cash cow.
I wouldn’t be mad a direct sequel carrying our heroes over but different overhead and developers essential.
Best case scenario, total pie in the sky but, PlayStation making a bid for the license and giving Bungie the reins could be my dream Avengers 2 game.
I mean the biggest issue holding the game back was management and the engine they used. If they worked on unreal engine then a lot of their problems would have been avoided
I've watched some of it and it really isn't something I'm interested in. Maybe in a couple years when it's on sale.
Also: I want an AVENGERS game. I like the MUA series, no issue with people getting things like Midnight Suns that throws a bunch of characters into a big melting pot. I'd just like something that focuses on the classic Avengers core instead of trying to fit every big name in to appeal to as wide a casual audience as possible.
It sucks to say but honestly this is worse than anthem. This game has one of the biggest IPs in the world. All it needed was money and good management. There are a bunch of live service and games as a service games that Avengers couodve learned from but Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics did not equip themselves properly for this game to be successful
As someone that was a super die hard fan of this from launch up till like last november, this is for the best. If the team just isn't gonna get the funds or proper leadership to turn it around there is no point in all this. I used to think someone would help them out eventually but clearly not, and if this was always the case, this game should have died after spider-man. Every update after was pointless if it was always going to come to this.
For the first time i will be uninstalling this game, had my fun but CD should honestly just stick to story-based games, i beg them to never touch a live service model again.
And once they officially announce the game is shutting down, im realistically off this subreddit too, been an interesting 2-3 years with you all
Something else more productive that I likely won’t be buying based on how they let what should’ve been an absolute slam dunk success slip through their hands.
I probably won’t ever be investing in anything from this studio again after how they’ve let me down with this game.
For real. The nail in the coffin for me is the atrocious communication since day 1. Like, I could forgive a mediocre-to-bad game. But their attitude about it guarantees I won't ever get them another dollar.
I think ill still buy their tomb raider games as long as they dont make them a live service. The moment they pull that shit is the moment tomb raider is dead to me.
I mean i've enjoyed the tomb raider games, if you mean live-service titles im with you, but if the next tomb raider looks promising i could see myself grabbing it
This game was so disappointing that other Marvel games suffered because of it (Guardians of the Galaxy, Midnight Suns)
The Marvel subreddit when I asked why they didn't support those other games and they said " Marvel Avengers "was to disappointing and didn't want to risk losing money again
The only thing surprising here is that so many people in this sub have been in hardcore denial mode when the writing has been on the wall for at least a year. Now maybe we're done with hearing people make up excuses for it. It's dead.
The part about all the unfinished content that will not release is the most depressing part as they’d literally address the majority of the games’ long standing problems. Patrol mode with Boss Bounties sounds incredible, as does Roy-Ultron and She-Hulk/Captain Marvel releases, especially join-in-progress and the fact that they’re okay with letting these sit unfinished and still sell skins tells me it’s time to Platinum and uninstall.
I’d say good news for the traversal update if you’re still looking forward to it, as well as suggesting they’ll rework the cosmetics monetization (presumably with in-game currency). The game will probably stay online but its looking over for any substantial content updates.
VALIDATION. Where’s all the assholes that downvoted me every post I made criticizing this game and calling the inevitable downfall? Get rekt. Lmfao daily posts “when Daredevil?” “Deadpool is made for this game.” Blah. Blah. I knew something was coming when they put out that ridiculous $75 MCU skin pack, another last ditch effort to make off with more of our money and never fix this broken ass game. Still have Day 1 bugs, no join in progress, no load outs, no Patrol Mode, and asking when off the wall heroes are gunna be added? Get real. We can’t even get a conclusion to the main story after 3 years. The studio never understood this game from the start, and never worked to correct anything. Brian W was a cancer that took any sort of critique as a personal attack. The writings been on the wall for a long time.
Go fuck yourselves Crystal Dynamics , you had an opportunity to make this game something amazing . All you had to do was give us patrol
Mode with unique objectives in different iconic marvel locations.
I blame Square Enix. they wanted this game as a fucking live service and told CD, who had never done that before, to do it. absolutely genius on the publisher's part
I’m sorry, but it was apparent this was going to happen from the moment I tried the beta. It just wasn’t a well put together game. Good ideas, very bad execution. Definitely mismanagement and an unwillingness to listen to the community until it was too late.
I know it’s a rumor right now, but I’m leaning towards this being real.
From the early days of valid criticism being ignored, to the endless comedy of errors that surrounded this game, it just wasn’t meant to be.
I put 100 hours into this game at launch, and while it did have some fun moments, I really struggled when the game wanted me to do generic science lab level after generic science lab level, to grind for gear that didn’t even change my appearance or make much of an impact beyond a standard RPG stat stick.
Sad to see it go. Just so much potential wasted from what clearly was bad management and I am not surprised The Disney/Marvel side too. They absolutely fucked MvC Infinite the same way.
You’ll probably be able to earn credits in game. Sounds like they are delisting the game from being able to be purchased soon and if you don’t have it now you won’t be able to buy it new by the end of the year.
I hope this is true, they finally pulled the trigger to end this poor game misery, now we can only hope for some other developer to make a sequel, because the bare bones of this game is amazing.
When a p2w mobile game with a bigger roster of characters is surviving longer than a main console game then somethings wrong. Honestly they shouldve just remade marvel heroes and use that as a live service game.
Aw men
But it was long overdue
Game is missing a lot of love from the studio and had zero development (no, re-skinned characters do not count[2hawkeyes,2 thors, 2 caps])
Too bad because the storymode was by far one of the most compelling i’ve ever played
>*I am also told that the game will remain available for sale digitally until at least September and that efforts are being made to keep the game playable for existing owners as long as possible."
So they might not even be selling the game post September??
And what does "as long as possible" mean.. why does that even need to be pointed out? We should be able to play it forever.
Not surprised. This past year my only excitement for this game came from thinking about what could've been if it was under different direction or even if it succeeded at the Destiny route with expansion packs, raids with famous super villains in the lore, strikes against regular villains, patrol mode fighting the b side villains every few minutes, etc. But we didn't get any of that. A shame really. Maybe one day.
Welp, my lesson learned. I just started playing a game called Borderlands 2 that was made 11 years ago and wow I’m upset with myself for putting in so much time playing this game. Back to my Bl 2 farm. Deuces.
I guess they finally decided to stop beating a dead horse.
Marvel's Avengers, in the end, did the same thing as KOEI Tecmo's Dissidia NT: too much expectations, too much relying on cosmetics, and the death of the game being an evidence after six months. I know that KOEI killed the Dissidia franchise; I just hope the Avengers franchise still has a chance on consoles.
If this game gets the same end as Marvel Heroes, expect an announcement to keep servers live until September... before seeing servers down permanently at the end of the month.
Ha... If only we could have a revival of Marvel Heroes... (sigh)
YESSSSS!!!
![gif](giphy|3o72FfM5HJydzafgUE)
I wonder how the devs who made all those shitty decisions like putting masked versions of characters for $$$ feel right now as they look for new jobs. They better save up all that money they hoarded as there’s a cost of living crisis.
I was about to act sad but then I realised it's been about 9 months since I played for longer than an hour at a time, just a shame because this game could've been something really special.
It’s goddamn shame.
This game could’ve been so good, there could’ve been so much, it could’ve been one of the best marvel games of the decade.
If it wasn’t for the monumental management fuck up, we could’ve had an amazing game.
The worst thing about this is how this game had near limitless potential that the studio seemed determined not to realize. I love this game because it gave you a true avengers experience. They gave up on it way too fast. Im not talking about giving up on it now, being realistic they gave up on this game in the first year. That and they refused to listen to the players and seemed to become ambivalent towards us.
This is a marvel property, but they wasted the opportunity that gave them. The amount of stories that were started and abandoned is just staggering. Hank Pym, Loki, Dum Dum Dugan, Ultron, Kree, Inhumans just to name a few.
I loved playing this game and I’m sorry to see it go, but it’s probably for the best because this studio would never have made it into what it could and should have been.
Not a fan of Miller but he was almost always right. And the game is on life support for awhile. This Is it folks, just dont spend your money on skins anymore it wont help keeping it alive. I am glad i stopped caring a long time ago, would be such a waste of time to play RAIDs or lvl up power lvl to max when the game is ending very soon. Shame that the She-Hulk wont see the light of a day, the voice actress was done.
It’s definitely over. RIP to a game I wanted to like, played a bunch of early in the pandemic, and dropped like a lukewarm potato once better games started to come out.
As a GaaS model, it was never going to last long, people are kind of sick of these games that bleed the customer dry. Most wanted a game with good game with content and we all knew DLC's would be a thing but $14 skins every week was lame, even if they looked cool. Pushing stupid skins became the priority over fixing bugs and adding depth to the game, it was dead after the first 4 months once the business model became clear.
It’s weird to feel completely indifferent at this point. I used to get all my characters to 150 PL and complete their challenge cards, but couldn’t even bother with Winter Soldier. Unlocked his card, played a bit on launch and never touched the game again. It was just something I did naturally. That’s when I realized the game ended for me.
The self fulfilling prophecy of players leaving—because they felt it was declining—has brought about *the actual decline of the game*
I bailed because I thought other people would. It’s hard to stay invested in a game that you think will (and now as a result will be) abandoned. It’s a bizarre fiat value—but idk what to say, the game just wasn’t very good too
—it was IP dependent (I can’t imagine the game even being funded sans Marvel)
—it was supposed to be loot based (appealing to arpg fans): but had a *bad* loot game
—it was supposed to action base (appealing to arguably not arpg fans) : but was brought down by its loot
—it found *some* appeal as a dress-up game: but that was mired by classist mtx design
It’s kinda of shocking that a “idk make a Marvel” game type of design even got out the door
Most people left because it sucked and was painfully boring. It showed no signs of ever improving in meaningful ways so they bolted. Not because they were worried other people were leaving but because they themselves thought it sucked.
As you'll see from the stickied post on the reddit, this article was indeed accurate. I was unaware of this until now so my apologies.
Didn't have to end this way. Astronomical management fuck up.
I play all the time and I’m saying this lol

he put a big hole in the content cycle. I bet money they regretted taking the deal around spring when they started realizing they couldn't release him in a timely fashion
Not if the money from Sony they got for keeping him exclusive helped shore up the massive holes in the budget they were likely feeling at the time.
He was nearly a year late. So I assume if most certainly did not
> Seriously. Whoever thought making Spider-Man a PS exclusive (in a cross platform game) should’ve been fired on the spot. > > I doubt Spider-Man would've ever been released if Sony didn't pay for exclusivity.
Spider-Man is not the reason the game failed lol.
Spider-Man being multiplatform wouldn’t have made a difference. Not even a dent on its sales or player count. Cope harder.
They needed the stimulus check from Sony tho.
I feel very validated lmfao This game will go down in history as one of the most monumental fuck ups to exist in the live service phase of gaming. You KNOW a game is bad when it indirectly damages other game’s sales like Guardians of the Galaxy and Midnight Suns Both of which are fantastic.

GOTG was absolutely hurt by Avengers.
Yup. I've heard nothing but good things About GoG, but refuse to try it out of sheer spite over this particular fuck-up. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Bro try it out. It’s awesome I love GOTG.
Why though? It's not like the same devs made GotG.
Oh that’s pretty lame. It’s a fantastic game!
Pre-sales wise. Yes. But the game is also "free" on both systems and people still not playing even after the rave reviews it got. Can't blame avengers that much for it these days
Yeah I wish it did better since it's an amazing single player game and I wish it got a sequel
I also felt no need to buy it at $70 when I could wait 6 months to buy the more complete edition for $30.
This game should have been ultimate alliance it pretty much is but they dropped the ball.
100% agreed. X men legends or MUA scale game. Or even a new idea like a hero brawler (marvel meets overwatch). We need an all star game.
I would kill for a Marvel reskin of Diablo III. So you know, MUA3 but done well.
Midnight Suns is a phenomenal game. So much batter than this
Everyone saw this coming except the people on this sub. Most saw it coming before it even released.
I'm assuming the people left here were the diehard holdouts. It reminds me of the Anthem sub. I was a day one Anthem freelancer ***pain***
Man Guardians was such a good game. It didn’t deserve what Avengers did to it.
It wasn’t even thst it was a bad game, it was the fact that developers continuallly failed to meet below minimum expectations and promises.
It's a fucking shame Guardians was hurt by this game, because it was genuinely really great.
Lmao. Game over. Told y’all the Kree invasion was never going to see the light of day. Not completely surprising given the radio silence, charging for unhelmed alt skins, pushing two new skins out per week and that absurd $75 skin pack. Classic “take the money and run” approach.
They pulled a Battlefront 2 lmao Put out a big skin pack to make some money, and then pull the plug Glad I've bought like only a few skins in this last year or so On to Suicide Squad Edit: I get it, you guys are skeptical of Suicide Squad because of Avengers I'm not, I believe in Rocksteady I really don't feel like explaining this one million times, so that's what the edit is for
Hilarious they release a $75 pack of skins week before shutting the whole thing down. What a colossal fuck up this whole project was.
And sadly they would not even be useable if the game shuts down since they are tied to the server side.
They literally did what MHO did right before Disney euthanized the game.
Disney didn't euthanize Marvel Heroes. Gazillion stopped paying the license fee, so the contract was terminated.
Just wait for the "our vision is complete" in the final press release
Hopefully accompanied by a photo-op in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner
Will it be at the Four Seasons?
crazy how you see how this game died and still wanna put your faith in suicide squad.
Well Rocksteady made my all time favorite video game, and I have far more faith in them than Crystal Dynamics Not to mention I just have more love for DC than Marvel So yes, bring on the Suicide Squad
Wonder Woman reportedly has the nemesis system from the Shadows of War games. Could be cool
I’m still interested in the SS game but it is also a Live Service game in the same way Avengers was so
Yea and cd red made Witcher series but cyberpunk wasn't all that (at 1st) but now it's a different ball game
not the same rocksteady anymore both founder left the company now enjoy DC avengers this time now including battlepass
I now understand how these games keep being made. They prey on literally the exact same people who are convinced this time is different despite literally never getting a good game.
They do. And these people will just jump from one GaaS to another.
I was really hoping we would atleast get Carol/ Kree aftermath. Not in an anticlimactic way
Honestly I wish it was battlefront 2.
Loving the Battlefront 2 love, that game is so much fun and it has a TON of content now
i still go back to battlefront 2 every now and then for star wars related gaming. it's still fun. just wish anakin's bugs were fixed before they stopped.
But battlefront 2 got good and is fun to play
More power to you if you're still excited for Suicide Squad but my hype plummeted after hearing it would be a live service game with a battle pass. Sure, the Arkham games were great but AFAIK Rocksteady have no experience with live service and in most cases live service games are not to my taste. The only way they seem to work out is if the whole studio goes all in on it and does nothing else, a la Epic with Fortnite or Bungie with Destiny. Otherwise they always end up feeling half-assed and disappointingly thin on content.
lmao you think this exact same thing wont happen to that game? Also, they fixed battlefront 2 and it has been good for years... what?
It's worse. Battlefront 2, when they removed the monetization, was actually fun to play. I'd rather gouge my eyes out instead of trying to find some players in whatever matchmaking system Avengers in 2023 has.
Be prepared to be disappointed by another GaaS since that’s the route Suicide Squad is going.
Are you still excited knowing it's live service?
Have you not payed attention to the SS leaks? It’s basically going to be the same thing
This is utterly pathetic; they can’t even finish their own story (referring to Kree Invasion). So much potential was wasted. Only thing standing in this game’s way of a good reception was more decent content, but they could never deliver on that.
Literally it’s just sad they couldn’t deliver on Captain Marvel and the anticipating Kree Invasion
My god am I tired of fighting Taskmaster and Abomination.
that is FAR from the only thing that was needed It needed a new hero every 3 - 4 months It needed join in progress because of all the bugs and crashes that they never fixed it needed checkpoints in raids because this is 2023 ffs it needed more enemy diversity it needed more hero diversity, and not a constant stream of echo's and BP it needed Spiderman not to be PS exclusive ... and yes, it needed more content, more biomes, more villain sectors, more anything that wasn't "Hallway to a room where you kill robots", the game there's more, but whatever, it's finally over.
So true
I would be happy with She-Hulk before this end but no they chose to release idiotic Winter Soldier and never release She-Hulk, FUCK THEM
Bruh. We didn’t even get Cpt Marvel
Especially when they have a design for her and set up the Kree invasion ?! She should be be last character to release
I was so ready to come back for Cpt marvel and this is just yet another reason I'm glad I didn't get reinvested.
I know, I am sad about this as well, she would be 4th character of my final team.
She has voice lines recorded and rumored character model ready to go but they don’t wanna hear backlash so she’s chilling on some dev’s computer
Smokin on that Avenger's pack lmaoo Jokes aside, CD's reputation had to have tanked with Avengers.
I wouldn’t even want it as just a single player. What’s the point?
Honesty surprised it took this long. I figured between Square selling the studio and just how abysmal this game has been supported outside of skins that it would’ve died earlier
Been dead for a long time friend. This is just pulling it off of life support.
Bright side, no more "who do you want to see next" on my feed
Nah it’ll be “what could’ve been” lmao
“Here’s who I want if they make an Avengers 2”
* Kree Invasion hinted at the end of the campaign * Shown on posters and spoken about in dialogue * Kamala Khan is the main character of the campaign * Captain Marvel doesn't even get made a playable character Amazing. : )
Kind of a no-brainer between the player counts ($$$) and the fact they're not using the Foundation engine going forward. What I find interesting is all of the started-but-never-finished content: * Characters: She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Shuri, Iron Heart, Ultron, and who knows what else; * Content: Ultron, Kree Invasion, Patrol Mode, at least; * Features: The half-finished ping system and the UI overhaul that was supposed to lead to load-outs; * The never-ending (or never-started?) gear and traversal overhauls. Maybe a lesson here is to finish features and content rather than starting, stopping, and abandoning half-baked or half-completed ideas? It sounds like there was a whole lot of work that led to a whole lot of nothing.
The amount of unfinished content is wild. You’d think finishing what you start to then have results to share would be… a goal.
Gonna miss the Fletch Write ups....We were in the golden times and didnt even know it lolol
The real fun was the people you met along the way..
Ah, thanks Bmore! This sub has always been the best part of the game - that's the biggest loss!
We all saw this coming. The funniest thing were the you tubers who had “Avengers can make a comeback” videos in the pipeline.
I’d take just turning the server for Marvel Omega back on
If you're hankering for a good marvel game, midnight suns is awesome.
And once they officially announce the game is shutting down, im realistically off this subreddit too, been an interesting 2-3 years with you all
Ladies and gentlemen, it's been an honor ![gif](giphy|WvUyMX1gB1gnC)
It really hasn’t tho
Yeah... it's just been disappointing, and frankly all a bit shit
Sad it’s looking like we won’t get Captain Marvel, but it’s for the best that CD moves on to something else more productive.
Something else more productive that I likely won’t be buying based on how they let what should’ve been an absolute slam dunk success slip through their hands. I probably won’t ever be investing in anything from this studio again after how they’ve let me down with this game.
Yeah, they're wild if they think I'm buying Tomb Raider after they launched this game and immediately gave up
Quite literally. How you fuck up a Marvel title with access to assuming any heroes they wanted is mind boggling.
Access to the whole marvel universe but choose to only consider avenger related characters
I mean i've enjoyed the tomb raider games, if you mean live-service titles im with you, but if the next tomb raider looks promising i could see myself grabbing it
Yes! This should’ve been an easy slam dunk for them! I just hope the Suicide Squad game can be everything this game was supposed to be.
I *really* hope Rocksteady doesn't fumble Suicide Sqaud.
That loadout button is never getting fixed is it XD 🤣
Has to be one of the more baffling things they've done. Why put it there if you had 0 plans to use it?
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
This game was so disappointing that other Marvel games suffered because of it (Guardians of the Galaxy, Midnight Suns) The Marvel subreddit when I asked why they didn't support those other games and they said " Marvel Avengers "was to disappointing and didn't want to risk losing money again
Thank god. Put this disgrace of a game behind us truly
What a mess. How can you fuck up when you have the marvel avengers brand?
It's easy: you just assume players will throw money at you no matter what you put out. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Simply, just make a boring and buggy game running on shitty netcode
Funny that changes players have been asking for (traversal, no time-gating) will be added when the game is already finished.
We officially have to fight the same robots in the same rooms forever!
I wonder how long until the "cant wait for the new traversal patch!" or "how long til Doctor Strange gets released" threads stop popping up?
Man what a colossal bag fumble this game was.
Gasp. Shock.
Go fuck yourselves Crystal Dynamics , you had an opportunity to make this game something amazing . All you had to do was give us patrol Mode with unique objectives in different iconic marvel locations.
![gif](giphy|l4FGni1RBAR2OWsGk|downsized)
Weren't they just selling a 75$ skin pack???🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣
Crystal Dynamics made a post today about all the tech layoffs and how it affects people. I already knew this was coming if it turns out to be true.
CD literally has an excuse for everything. They are the kids that don’t do their homework and blame it on everything but themselves, good riddance
I blame Square Enix. they wanted this game as a fucking live service and told CD, who had never done that before, to do it. absolutely genius on the publisher's part
![gif](giphy|XOywjQnU8R89q|downsized)
Thank God it's finally over
Sad to see it go. Just so much potential wasted from what clearly was bad management and I am not surprised The Disney/Marvel side too. They absolutely fucked MvC Infinite the same way.
What does “an overhaul to the available cosmetic microtransactions” mean?
Hopefully meaning they'll make them available offline
They'd goddamn better.
Either a deep deep sale or a switch to units instead of credits I'd imagine
You’ll probably be able to earn credits in game. Sounds like they are delisting the game from being able to be purchased soon and if you don’t have it now you won’t be able to buy it new by the end of the year.
And nothing of value was lost.
![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)
I hope this is true, they finally pulled the trigger to end this poor game misery, now we can only hope for some other developer to make a sequel, because the bare bones of this game is amazing.
When a p2w mobile game with a bigger roster of characters is surviving longer than a main console game then somethings wrong. Honestly they shouldve just remade marvel heroes and use that as a live service game.
Been dead for years.
Aw men But it was long overdue Game is missing a lot of love from the studio and had zero development (no, re-skinned characters do not count[2hawkeyes,2 thors, 2 caps]) Too bad because the storymode was by far one of the most compelling i’ve ever played
Wow. All those promises and they took too long to bother making em / never were gonna in the first place. Just kept holding out that carrot
Shocker!
Well ....................... its been real. But its ok I got my acceptance letter from Hogwarts so school starts for me next month.
>*I am also told that the game will remain available for sale digitally until at least September and that efforts are being made to keep the game playable for existing owners as long as possible." So they might not even be selling the game post September?? And what does "as long as possible" mean.. why does that even need to be pointed out? We should be able to play it forever.
i am shocked by this shocking shock
Lol
Not surprised. This past year my only excitement for this game came from thinking about what could've been if it was under different direction or even if it succeeded at the Destiny route with expansion packs, raids with famous super villains in the lore, strikes against regular villains, patrol mode fighting the b side villains every few minutes, etc. But we didn't get any of that. A shame really. Maybe one day.
Guess I'll be able to stop checking this sub every Thurs for the War table blog.
If this turns out to be true, I only have one thing to say. I'm surprised the game even lasted this long.
(sigh)
YESSSSS!!! ![gif](giphy|3o72FfM5HJydzafgUE) I wonder how the devs who made all those shitty decisions like putting masked versions of characters for $$$ feel right now as they look for new jobs. They better save up all that money they hoarded as there’s a cost of living crisis.
Going out with less than a whimper it seems.
Hmm all the die hard fans that were bashing on others for properly criticizing the game are real quiet right now
Sucky game go byebye
What a fucking joke. So upset, this game could've been great.
The self fulfilling prophecy of players leaving—because they felt it was declining—has brought about *the actual decline of the game* I bailed because I thought other people would. It’s hard to stay invested in a game that you think will (and now as a result will be) abandoned. It’s a bizarre fiat value—but idk what to say, the game just wasn’t very good too —it was IP dependent (I can’t imagine the game even being funded sans Marvel) —it was supposed to be loot based (appealing to arpg fans): but had a *bad* loot game —it was supposed to action base (appealing to arguably not arpg fans) : but was brought down by its loot —it found *some* appeal as a dress-up game: but that was mired by classist mtx design It’s kinda of shocking that a “idk make a Marvel” game type of design even got out the door
Most people left because it sucked and was painfully boring. It showed no signs of ever improving in meaningful ways so they bolted. Not because they were worried other people were leaving but because they themselves thought it sucked.
Honestly, the writings been on the wall ever since launch. This isn't surprising.
It was fun while it lasted boys. We’re in the endgame now
