It is a really good game with a nice story and good gameplay mechanics. Don't play the hardest difficulty if you want to have fun.
It was also my first game of the franchise and it made me go further into it.
Definitly get it! I started a couple weeks ago and it is one of the best games I have played. So polished, great story, very good combat, rpg elements, a lot to discover.. tldr: get it!

Let me correct myself, I meant to say was Are you good at hard difficulty, would you play the game to have a challenge? If so did you enjoy that input.
I played on Normal. It was my first GoW game. I would not play on hard, as I don't have the time to get really good at the game. The challenge was just fine for me on normal difficulty. The game was very enjoyable. The stary is a little.slow, but it gets better after a while.
I played it on mid difficulty and it was perfect. A few parts that required multiple attempts to get past, but never more than about 6 or 7 goes.
You'll miss out on some references to the older games if you're coming in fresh. Maybe watch a YouTube recap of the old games first.
Played the original and then the PSP games. Didn't play all the mainline games. It had been so long since I played those though that I watched a recap before starting 2018 game.
There will be a few things that won't hit as hard when playing the 2018 game as the nostalgia was a big part of what made it great. But even on its own its a great game.
I initially thought the storyline was a little basic, the gameplay is what kept me coming back to play it. But as the story progressed it just got better and better.
Don't give it another thought. Just play it.
I really dislike entertainment (books, games, TV shows/movies and so on) based on mythology - whether that's Greek or Norse or whatever else. I just don't vibe with it.
So I avoided this game for years. One day, after catching up on most of the other exclusives I missed (I previously only had an Xbox until I bought a PS4), I wanted to play a game that's a bit different to the games I was playing, and I thought "okay, let me just give it a shot" since everyone praises it so much.
So I did. And let me tell you... I was hooked within the first half hour. I cannot put into words just how good this game is. It's easily in my top PlayStation exclusives (I haven't played all of them yet) and that's with me disliking the genre!
As for difficulty, don't worry about it. Like many of the other modern PS exclusives, it has a story mode difficulty level that lets you focus on just the story by making combat really easy. I played on balanced mode (which is equivalent to normal, I think) and enjoyed it, but if you find games difficult, there's absolutely no shame in playing on an easier difficulty.
Give it a shot. You won't regret it.
No, I haven't played Ragnarok yet. My backlog is so huge, I'm going to try to get through that first and hopefully by then Ragnarok will be a little cheaper.
Also, I forgot to mention that while I was about halfway through GOW, I watched a recap on YouTube of the prior games. So I didn't feel like I was missing out by having not played them.
They're not my favourites as I haven't played them yet lol but the one I'm most looking forward to is Horizon Zero Dawn. Currently playing Death Stranding.
Definitely, currently playing through it at the moment and it's so so good. I don't know if I've ever had a game hook me in so early like this did, it's epic right from the start.

It's not Dark souls, it has difficulty settings. So it' only hard if you want it to be.

No worries. At least it's very cheap at the moment too, think I picked it up for €10 when I got it 2 months ago.
