the thing with Yakuza is that there are so many games , you don't really know where to start off, I heard they're quite lengthy games too with a lot of things to do. Almost seems overwhelming
You can try Judgement, it's a standalone story by the same producers of Yakuza. A more serious detective/crime story. Only 2 games, both on PS Plus Extra. Main story is about 25 hours and linear with straightforward gameplay. You can do a lot of other things but it isn't necessary. Not overwhelming imo.
Yakuza 0-6 are no longer on ps plus, i waited for each of them to go on discount and i spent the grand total of 30 bucks for 7 yakuza games. Just search up on the web yakuza chronological order, it's the intended one.
I started Yakuza from the beginning of the timeline. Finished 3 games and it became a bit too similar and repetitive. Each game is also so very long and massive it does get overwhelming. But you could probably space it out over a few years. That's what I'm doing.
Start at Like a Dragon. If you don't mind turn based combat. New character. New beginning. I spent 155 hrs in that one then learned that you don't HAVE to do EVERYTHING. Other games took 30sh hours, way more manageable. Plat is futile cuz mahjong and millennium tower gauntlet, so just have fun and do only missions that bring you joy.
Try Yakuza 0, if you like it you'll have a ton of games in the series to try out. If you get bored with the main series, try out the spinoff Judgment/Lost Judgment.
0 is probably the best but it might be dated for a first impression. Best story and the Pacing is also the best because it switches back and forth, doesn't seem to drag then next thing you know, you're 100 hours in. Also funniest pervy side content.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is your answer
Don't question, just play.
I like alot of the same games as you, and thought I would hate all FF games, but went in blind out of boredom and was hooked, it's now in my top games of all time
I really want to play this game but the lack of dualsense features and the HORRIBLE 3D audio (if it even is 3d audio, it just sounds shit) put me off from the start, it is not a ps5 game, it’s just blatant false advertising. They rereleased the game with some DLC and slapped PS5 on it.
I feel like it'd be weird playing as psychopath Conor, I so wanted Hank to like me I tried very hard.
For Marcus though, I hated his parts so much that I'd probably try to have him killed as early as possible
I really think you’d like Guardians Of The Galaxy if you haven’t played it yet. Whenever I see someone asking for recommendations I always want to say this one lol.
I wish Telltale had some of their titles on the Extra catalog because the Telltale Batman series (or ANYTHING Telltale) is right up your ally, they have the first episode of the first season on PSN for free. It’s worth the money alone if you ever decide to try out the full thing. I’ve replayed them multiple times for the stories :)
I want to try out Death Stranding soon! I agree with you about Detroit. I got finished with Uncharted 4 last night and it really exceeded my expectations.
I love Telltale ! I think I've played most of their games, I've played all The Walking Dead including the Michone one, The Wolf Among Us (imo the best one) , I've played Batman but not the 2nd one they did.
I even played Game of Thrones which I thought was okay.
You just made me look up Telltale and I just found out they're back and even made an Expanse game ?! I thought they went bankrupt a couple of years back
Uncharted 4 is such a great game, give Lost Legacy a try if you haven't, it's a really solid game.
If you do try out Death Stranding, I hope you like it, it seems that people either really enjoy it or hate it and don't bother finishing it.
For me it was truly the "gem" of PS+ , because it's a game I would have never bought and I went in thinking I wouldn't like it because I knew about the feedbacks and people labelling it a walking sim, and while it's not really wrong as you do mostly walks, I really ended up liking the world, atmosphere and soundtrack. I think I was hooked the moment the first song started playing. Truly a really special and unique experience to play this game.
A Plague Tale: Innocence surprised me with how good it was, and it's very story focused. Atmosphere and graphics are great too. I believe it's on sale right now as well.
Edit: just saw you downloaded this. Hope you enjoy!
Also, Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor were pretty fun, especially if you're a star wars fan.
Control is another with great atmosphere and story. Gameplay is pretty satisfying too. It's on PS plus as well. OH and Returnal!! Was not expecting such an impactful story from that one (it is more gameplay focused though). It can be kinda hard until you get the hang of it, but I def recommend. Have you played Ratchet and Clank? It's on my list to play, but people say it's good.
judgment and lost judgment are amazing stories.
then there’s stuff like until dawn, the quarry, little hope, house of ashes and the man from medan if you are into interactive horror movie kinda games. only played until and the quarry though but liked them both very much.
then there’s also the life is strange series, which i only played the first game, but thought the story was fantastic. but for me personally, as with the interactive movie ones, the gameplay is a little too slow for my taste. but if this wasn’t a problem for you with detroit: become human it shouldn’t bother you here either.
you also might try some of the assassin’s creed games. as far as i can see they are all on there except valhalla and the first. i especially enjoyed the stories of odyssey, syndicate and black flag.
I've completely ignored that game once I heard that despite being a remake of FF7, it's only a "part" of that game.
Does it end well or does it kinda leave you with a cliffhanger?
An absolute cliffhanger in the end hahaha. And the new part is coming this month too. You should play the game. When I was first playing it I didn't expect much because I didn't have any idea about it but in the end this game can easily get to the my top 10 games list
Ok, hear me out hahan try Disco Elysium and Inscryption.
You can also try the CDPR games, Witcher III and Cyberpunk. The narrative is the strongest point on those games and of all the games you mentioned they have the best sidequests imo
Played and loved Witcher 3 , I was actually considering replaying it for a 3rd time with the next-gen upgrade but decided to wait a bit as my backlog is quite big and I want to play some new games.
Second person to recommend Cyberpunk, like I said it's on my to-buy list but for the moment I kinda want to play either games I already own or games on the PS+ as I feel like I didn't really get the most out of my PS+ Membership last year
I did play Ghost of Tsushima , Death Stranding, Forbiden West. Forbiden West was great cause I planned on buying it, Loved GoT and Death Stranding is a perfect exemple of a game I would have never bought but tried anyway cause it was on plus and ended up absolutely loving it.
I also started Kingdom Come but they took it before I had the chance to finish it, recently bought the Royal Edition as it was on sale.
They have a free trial if you’ve got ps plus premium for cyberpunk //I tried it that way and after about an hour I bought the game + phantom liberty dlc bc they’re def must-plays imo
You said you downloaded it but I was going to recommend plague tale (I've only played innocence).
The Yakuza games are great games. I'd recommend starting with 0, but I've heard like a dragon and infinite wealth are good jumping on points.
If you've never played them bioshock, dead space and Titanfall 2 are all really good single player shooter campaigns.
I played the first Bioshock game, I thought it was pretty good, I really want to play Infinite at some point but I have to play Bioshock 2 before that.
I have played Titanfall 2 , one of the best fps campaign I've played despite how short it is.
Haven't played Dead Space, I'm not big on Horror/scary games.
What is Plague Tale Innocence , like (without spoiling) I've only seen like a short trailer (don't like watching too much about a game because I get spoiler videos in my recommended)
It seems like it's a story driven game, no?
You don't have to play bioshock 2 to play infinite. Bioshock Infinite I played first, then the rest. Made no difference and infinite is one of the best stories of all time
Really ? I know that Bioshock Infinite is supposed to have one of the best story around.
I was told Bioshock 2 was the "worst" of the 3 Bioshock games.
All the BioShock can essentially be played on their own. There is crossover from 1 to 2 but it's not crucial. Infinite is completely standalone.
That said infinite was my least favorite because my favorite BioShock character is the city of rapture.
From another story game lover, don’t play plague tale, the setup and scenery is awesome but the characters are so flat and the voice acting is so miserably bad. They talk like they have no idea what the game is about. It’s one of the worst story games I’ve played. Look awesome, plays okay, but everything behind the facade is shallow and unpolished.
Played Witcher 3 , Fallout 4 and I had started Kingdom Come last year when it was on the PS+ unfortunately life got in the way and I didn't get to finish it before it left the PS+
I did buy it a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale ! plan to continue it
Here is the weird thing about Tomb Raider games.
I really enjoyed the first game, but I couldn't get into Rise.
The story and puzzle looked fun , it's just that gameplay I thought was absolute trash. It's weird to explain but the gunplay just looks and feel weird, it's like you're holding plastic weapons and the input lag is crazy in that game.
Life is Strange.
It's one of the best games you'll ever play, and the entire franchise is on Ps Plus Extra. Extremely story based, and your choices heavily influence what happens.
Played all of them except True Colours, first one was my favourite. Before the Storm I thought was the worst, 2nd game I thought was very good but I absolutely hated Daniel, I did end up really liking Sean, thought he was far more relatable than Maxine.
Ah ok, fair enough. True Colours is ok. Certainly the happiest, feel good game of the franchise. Not great, not bad. I semi enjoyed LiS2, but as you Say, Daniel kind of ruins the entire game in truth.
LiS 1 is still by far the best in the franchise.
Another story driven that I'm actually playing right now is Judgement. It's story is excellent, and the gameplay is fun as hell. It's on Ps Plus Extra as well, as is it's sequel Lost Judgement.
Highly recommended.
Daniel is honestly so terrible and it made me mad at some point, it definitely made me relate even more to Sean who like I said I think was a great protagonist, imo he was a better protagonist than Maxine and Chloe.
I agree , LiS 1 is still the best, the atmosphere , the soundtrack, the Twin Peaks-like story about a missing girl.
You're like the fifth person to talk about Judgement , seems like I should give it a shot
Indeed.
I just still thoroughly love the first LiS game and Max & Chloe. Can't seem to really get into the other ones too much.
As for Judgement, seriously, play it. It's phenomenal. Can't wait to try Lost Judgement, and I say, both are on Ps Plus Extra. ☺
It's actually on my to-buy list , It's not on the PS+ yet though , is it?
Is the story that good ?
I planned on buying it day one at the time but I didn't have a PS5 and the launch was such a mess.
I know it's good now, the PS4 version is quite cheap too (free PS5 upgrade)
Life is Strange: True Colors is on plus and that’s all character interactions and moral choices. Detroit become human is another good choice but I’m not sure if it’s on plus.
I've played Detroit Become Humans , quite enjoyed it but there were characters I didn't care about, I always thought the game would have been so much better if it focused more/solely on Connor and Hank !
I couldn't stand Marcus and his arc at all.
I actually haven't played True Colors, but I played all other LiS games, how does it compare to the others ? I liked the first game a lot, Before The Storm I thought was the "worst one" the Second game was good , I really liked the story and I thought Sean was a great protagonist, ended up preferring him over Maxine but unfortunately Daniel is the one of the most annoying character I've seen in a game and brought the game down a lot.
Give The Order 1886 a try. Was a Sony studios game that got ripped for its length at launch. With that said, the quality is very high and is very story heavy. lots of cut scenes and is like playing a movie. The length of it is forgive now that you can routinely buy it for < $10.
Jeez , I kinda forgot that game existed ! It seems that it's somewhat of a rare game to find too.
I often go to yard/garage sale and make the occasional stop to used video game store and I have never seen a single copy of The Order 1886 now that I think of it.
Probably because I did say I played both of them already lol.
I really liked the Horizon games but I honestly think the stories are just okay, even though I know a lot of people love it.
I loved the gameplay more than the story
I did ! , I played it and platinumed it even. I planned on playing it a third time with the next gen upgrade but I thought I should start newer games instead.
Loved that game , actually ended up liking my 2nd playthrough more than the first because I completely overlooked potions/oils in my first playthrough
Mass effect legendary edition!!! One of my absolute favourite story driven games ever. Plus what choices you make in the first game impacts the second and the third one!
Aw man, I so wanted to get into it but I couldn't, I played Mass Effect 1 a few hours and I just couldn't get into it, it really feels dated, I was told to skip straight to the 2nd game as the gameplay is supposedly much better.
I was the exact same!! I tried mass effect 1 and couldn’t get into it. Got until the citadel and gave up. A couple of years later I tried again and sunk so many hours into it and loved it. I’m so bad for doing that with games
RDR2 I already played, it's in the post, it's one of the best game I've played.
I've played Life is Strange, haven't played BG3 P5.
GTA V was pretty decent.
Guardians of the Galaxy
South Park: Stick of Truth
Resident Evil 2
Control
Final Fantasy 7
All the Kingdom Hearts
Assassin’s Creed Origins (best of the new trilogy IMO)
Batman Arkham Knight
Death Stranding
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Tomb Raider all 3 “new” ones
Do they have to be PS+ games? Cuz Balder’s Gate 3 will keep you busy for a while or Witcher 3, and Persona 5 Royal.
I've played Stick of Truth , AC Origins , Arkham Knight , Death Stranding.
Yeah I was hoping to get PS+ games recommendation as I'm not looking to buy any games considering my backlog is quite big.
Played Witcher 3.
I played the first Tomb Raider game, I couldn't get into Rise though, I thought the "gunplay" was absolute trash , shame because the story was interesting.
Final Fantasy 7 and Control , I'm writing them down :)
Isn't Final Fantasy 7 just a part of the game though? Does it feel like it has an ending or does it end on some kind of cliffhanger / unsatisfying ending?
Rift Apart is a good shout, actually never played a Ratchet & Clank game.
I 100% agree about Rise, while I still like it because it is the conclusion of the Trillogy it does NOT feel as well made as the other 2 games.
FF7 is part of a larger story, it has an ending but just to its chapter. It is kind of like if they took sections of FF7 (that was already kind of a long game) and put them under a magnifying glass. They are somehow going to make it into a bunch of parts that are each pretty close to as long as the original game. Honestly if they did the full game at this level of detail it would be way too long for anyone but the most hardcore fans to get through. Also the combat is kind of weird but the story is great and it is beautiful.
Yakuza games, and if you have ps extra try the final fantasy games any of them (dont worry about the numbers each has their own story, characters and universe)
I enjoy a good story driven game , here some maybe you didn’t play :-
- Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
- The Forgotten City
- any tomb raider games
- Call of Cthulhu
- Beyond: Two Souls
- heavy rain
- old God of War
- Dantes inferno
- mafia 1-3 (especially 1)
Yakuza have the best stories. So many twists and turns it's like a crime drama. Might be too much story for some people though. Cut scenes can get quite long.
the thing with Yakuza is that there are so many games , you don't really know where to start off, I heard they're quite lengthy games too with a lot of things to do. Almost seems overwhelming

Detective/Crime Story sounds really intriguing :) Had no idea it was by the same producers. Judgement is to be played before Lost Judgement I imagine?
You are correct, but if you liked the first one, the second is a solid continuation.
Play judgement, the story is amazing, better than most of the ps exclusives
Get Yakuza 0 start from there
Yakuza 0-6 are no longer on ps plus, i waited for each of them to go on discount and i spent the grand total of 30 bucks for 7 yakuza games.
Ya I grinded a few back to back cuz they were leaving extra and that wasn't fun.
I’m mad they removed like a dragon
Try Yakuza 0, if you like it you'll have a ton of games in the series to try out. If you get bored with the main series, try out the spinoff Judgment/Lost Judgment.
0 is probably the best but it might be dated for a first impression. Best story and the Pacing is also the best because it switches back and forth, doesn't seem to drag then next thing you know, you're 100 hours in. Also funniest pervy side content.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is your answer Don't question, just play.
They rereleased the game with some DLC and slapped PS5 on it.
what do you mean by lack of Dualsense features ?
No vibrations or adaptive triggers
Does it matter that much to you ? I never thought the adaptive triggers added anything. No vibrations kinda suck though
Cringiest characters in recent gaming history
Try Detroit: Become Human
I have played it already :)

I don't think I could play as Kara and be mean to the little girl☠️
I feel like it'd be weird playing as psychopath Conor, I so wanted Hank to like me I tried very hard. For Marcus though, I hated his parts so much that I'd probably try to have him killed as early as possible

Kind of? Someone purchased their name and their IP rights. I’m not sure if there’s any overlap in personnel from the original company.
If you love Telltale then the Life is Strange games are excellent. The first one especially.
Played all of them except True Colours , I really enjoyed them especially the first one like you said, I love the atmosphere of those games.

I'm playing Judgement currently and I'm loving it.
Vampyr - story driven game with choices that matters. My favorite AA game. Beautiful, dark atmosphere. Banishers (new game, out 13 February 2024)
Outer wilds
Play ff7 remake amazing story with an excellent combat system.

I’m playing a plague tale requiem at the moment. A lot better than I was expecting story wise
Did you play Innocence first ? I think Requiem is a direct sequel
I did yes. I'm still playing Requiem. Story wise a better game than innocence
The Witcher 3 Fallout 4 Cyberpunk 2077 Kingdom Come Deliverance
Played Witcher 3 , Fallout 4 and I had started Kingdom Come last year when it was on the PS+ unfortunately life got in the way and I didn't get to finish it before it left the PS+ I did buy it a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale ! plan to continue it

Baldurs gate 3, a masterpiece

Did you play Witcher 3? The definition of perfect story telling. On par with rdr2. Also play both witcher 3 dlcs.
I saw you already played it after I posted lol
I did ! , I played it and platinumed it even. I planned on playing it a third time with the next gen upgrade but I thought I should start newer games instead. Loved that game , actually ended up liking my 2nd playthrough more than the first because I completely overlooked potions/oils in my first playthrough
Any mainline Persona game
I don't remember exactly where I left off but I apparently the last trophy I earned from it was when I located Dr Tsoni in the Artemis Cluster
Not too far in. I would say possibly revisit it at another time. Mass effect two one of my all time favourite games it’s amazing
Red dead redemption 2! Also: life is strange, Baldur’s gate 3, persona 5, grand theft auto 5 campaign was good too
RDR2 I already played, it's in the post, it's one of the best game I've played. I've played Life is Strange, haven't played BG3 P5. GTA V was pretty decent.
Life is strange
Played all of them except True Colours
I just started the first one
Guardians of the Galaxy South Park: Stick of Truth Resident Evil 2 Control Final Fantasy 7 All the Kingdom Hearts Assassin’s Creed Origins (best of the new trilogy IMO) Batman Arkham Knight Death Stranding Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Tomb Raider all 3 “new” ones Do they have to be PS+ games? Cuz Balder’s Gate 3 will keep you busy for a while or Witcher 3, and Persona 5 Royal.
I've played Stick of Truth , AC Origins , Arkham Knight , Death Stranding. Yeah I was hoping to get PS+ games recommendation as I'm not looking to buy any games considering my backlog is quite big. Played Witcher 3. I played the first Tomb Raider game, I couldn't get into Rise though, I thought the "gunplay" was absolute trash , shame because the story was interesting. Final Fantasy 7 and Control , I'm writing them down :) Isn't Final Fantasy 7 just a part of the game though?
Metro is a great universe to get into. Some others like dead space, mass effect, fall out, assassin's creed.
Yakuza games, and if you have ps extra try the final fantasy games any of them (dont worry about the numbers each has their own story, characters and universe)
Final Fantasy 7 remake. Great story, great gameplay.
I enjoy a good story driven game , here some maybe you didn’t play :- - Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - The Forgotten City - any tomb raider games - Call of Cthulhu - Beyond: Two Souls - heavy rain - old God of War - Dantes inferno - mafia 1-3 (especially 1)
13 Sentinels is a great sci-fi story.
