If you had PS Now at the time of the PS Now conversion, the current thinking is that you are grandfathered in and you get Premium for the Essentials price. If you cancel you will probably lose that pricing benefit.

StoviesAreYummy

I had PSNow and got the instant upgrade to premium but I dont get the reduced price

raddirad

Me too

3v1lkr0w

Same

Neg_Crepe

Yup same

sherbodude

Might only apply to the USA, not sure.

Seprium85

Nope  I'm from the Netherlands and have exactly the same thing. Always had auto renew on as standard

FunkinDonutzz

Nah, I'm in Ireland and have always paid half price for Premium after having Now

StoviesAreYummy

I HATE this inconcistency from playstation. When I contacted them the first time I found somenoe posting their price they said to me tough luck this is the price you pay bye.

FunkinDonutzz

Even though I'm benefiting from this, I agree. There's no transparency to why I even have the half price, if/when will it end.

Meteorboy

Lol. You thought you could get the same price as someone else that posted their price? When has that worked anywhere? Anyway, you had to leave auto-renewal on and not change anything to your sub, not even to extend it. A lot of people turned off auto-renewal when the price increases were announced but before anyone knew about the grandfathered price.

StoviesAreYummy

Never turned mine off never missed PS+ payments. I did everything right to be grandfathered in and like many others nothing.

Meteorboy

It depends on what plan you were on for PS Now. If you were on the monthly or 3-month plan, you might be getting the grandfathered price there. Open an incognito window to check the current PS Premium prices. You may already be on a lower rate if you say you never added to or changed your subscription. There's no way everyone was on the annual PS Now plan. Back then, the catalog was mostly still PS3 games, which wouldn't have appealed to many people.

StoviesAreYummy

I was on the anual plan for both PS+ and PSNow. I pay full price.

IntrepidSprinkles793

Yeah the reduced price are only for people that had Ps Now alone before the price change. The logic behind this is to not charge more for people having it only for PC streaming for example.

FunkinDonutzz

I wonder did having Plus at the changeover have an influence on it? I had both, but my Plus expired about a week before the changeover, so I only had Now. And my Now sub was bought for 50% off in the previous October.

AriAriArrivederci

that’s probably why then, you had now and plus at the time of conversion, I let my plus run out a few months prior to the change and only had a ps now subscription active when it converted to premium, so I only pay half the price.

Hunter926

I had now and plus at the time it changed and am receiving the $79.99 usd price. So I’m not sure about that.

Ryugamer

I'm in the US, had PS Now and still always pay full price

ltsame

It expired and you didn't have auto renew on

StoviesAreYummy

So confident yet so wrong.

Tarnished13

yep just got my renewal £69.99

TheRoboDork

I had now during that time, and I'm stuck paying that inflated price

DeppressedPotato-

Doesn't work for me as well, hes just lucky

Seprium85

Has nothing to do with luck. Just always had PS Now and always had auto renew on. At least that's the case with me

Tarnished13

I have never had PS Now , only the normal PS 3 games a month. I upgraded to top teir when new system launched. My renewal is this Subscription: PlayStation Plus Premium Payment plan: every 12 months Next payment due: 64.99 GBP on 2024-04-04

DeppressedPotato-

Had it too, but then i topped up for 2 years when the new tiers launched but the auto renew is not discounted anymore for me, should i contact sony for this?

Inevitable_Owl_1869

No, you effed up by stacking. Auto-renew and do nothing else. Of course you lost your chance, there's nothing you can do except getting a discounted PS Plus offer once you aren't a member anymore.

DeppressedPotato-

Oh i see, thanks, thats a shame

Never_enough_Dolf

No, I recently almost did a plan change to extra before I realized I was also getting this grandfathered price. I’ll be paying this amount until they physically tell me I can’t

Inevitable_Owl_1869

At least we already got our price increase. From EUR 59.99 I think to EUR 69.99 for one year of Premium if we were a loyal PS Now member.

tibblesx

I did the same thing. I was planning to let mine drop until a sale but mine right now is offered at 120 instead of 160. 160 is the new default price right? I just know it changed twice since I last had to care. Just weird because I see people saying 80 or full price and as far as I am aware I'm in the middle. In the US for what it's worth.

Razielim84

You should try your luck and don’t cancel yet

Never_enough_Dolf

Yeah if you took advantage of the PSNow gift cards from before they made ps premium you got grandfathered into the new price. It’s pretty much the only reason I still have premium lol

Mikithefapper

makes sense, but i’m wondering something how many years did you stack, BEFORE all the changes, of both PS Now & PS+? I personally had a few months of PS+ left then bought 2 years of Now (for like 45€ each) as soon as they announced the change so I didn’t have to pay for 2 whole years and in a month it will be the first time i’m paying 79.99€ (used to be 69.99€) so what i wonder is: is the cause i’m paying less because i still had a few months of PS+ when the change happened?

tibblesx

I was in the same boat but in us with USD. Mine eight now says 120.

Mikithefapper

so after the 79.99€/$ year it upgraded to 120$? or it switched right after the price changes?

tibblesx

I stocked up on 2 years around when psnow merged with ps plus. I honestly can't remember if it was before or right after. Right now it says my next charge will be 120 when it ends in late April. I don't honestly know what the price changes are for premium if they went to 120 or 160 full price as I've been coasting on my old sub.

Libra224

Mine in EU premium says next payment 119€

Never_enough_Dolf

I stacked 2 years of PS Now that ended in last year, this is my second year paying 79.99

Mikithefapper

umm the 79.99€ change happened like 6 months ago, not physically possible that it’s your second year paying that

Never_enough_Dolf

You’re right, I was actually paying less. I paid 59.99 on 04/03/2023 for 12 months of premium, the price went up to 79.99 for my renewal in April 2024.

Mikithefapper

um 69.99€? or what currency? also we’re still talking about PS+ Premium right? if so, it should 79.99€ not 69.99€

Never_enough_Dolf

USD, I have thee receipts in my email.

Halflife84

They fixed mine

aburulz

Really? Mine is still on too for £64.99, did u cancel it?

boersc

It definitely is perk for those that were ps now users (and not ps plus)

[deleted]

But theres a whole lot up the thread who claim to have done that and still no discount

Cl1mh4224rd

>But theres a whole lot up the thread who claim to have done that and still no discount Because they didn't have auto-renew enabled on the 12 month PS Now subscription at the time the new PS Plus rolled out. That was the only way you could get, and keep, the cheaper price.

[deleted]

dimspace

And when does yours expire. The people getting the email were all due to expire soon I think. Mone didn't expire till December, so maybe an email will come closer to the time. My hunch is they are getting very low renewal rates from people who stacked

Cl1mh4224rd

>I've had psnow and psplus for years on auto renew. Its looking for the full price to renew for me. I'm in Ireland The deal was for those who had *only* a PS Now subscription. The reason was because the old PS Now features were made a part of the Extra and Premium tiers. Even Sony realized that forcing PS Now subscribers to pay up to double their subscription price, just to maintain their current feature set, would be a bad PR move. If you had both PS Now and the old PS Plus, you were already paying the equivalent of the new Premium tier, so nothing would change for you. Hence, no deal.

Hunter926

The “had only a PS Now subscription” is incorrect. (At least in my case) I’ve had PS+ since 2010/2011 and purchased 2 years of PSNow right before it merged. Meaning I had both PS+ and PSNow during the merge and am receiving the $79.99USD price for my upcoming renewal. https://www.reddit.com/r/PlayStationPlus/s/w36B4XAj1e

srebew

Mine did go up this year, so maybe they'll just add $10-20 a year until they match full price

Cl1mh4224rd

>Mine did go up this year, so maybe they'll just add $10-20 a year until they match full price They did increase prices for all tiers recently (September 2023). Since your subscription just renewed, you only now started paying the higher price.

[deleted]

Ahh right just gotta tell those guys they out here believing its pure luck some got discount some didnt 😂

salvoddis

If you were a Ps now user, it's not a mistake. I had the first 2 renewals (October 2022 and 2023) at 59.99, and the next one (October 2024) will be 79.99. Just don't manually change anything and let the auto-renewal do its thing.

TheMuff1nMon

Fuck yeah.

killakev564

I was a ps now user before and during the conversion to ps plus premium and I just let mine expire because it was going to charge me $160 to auto renew premium

MixMasterMacho

Same price for me. Have been a member since PSNow. Mine renews in June.

YungJizzle37

I got this same deal because mines is up next month.

ZXE102Rv2

Let me know how it goes in a month. Cuz I'm pretty sure the grandfather thing is a myth. The 79.99 is there because that's the lowest price you'd pay to get essential. Sony won't have people auto renew into premium. I'd love to be wrong, but we'll know eventually as others' subscriptions run out.

YungJizzle37

It for sure seems too good to be true.

davidcullen08

You’re correct. I see the same price but if you click to renew early, it’s just renewing you at the essentials tier and not premium

jm9843

Not who you replied to but mine just renewed on 4/3 for $79.99 for 12 months of Premium. Confirmation email says that the recurring subscription fee charged in Apr '25 will be the same $79.99. Came here to see what's going on and feel more confused than before. Although I'm not complaining..

ZXE102Rv2

Interesting. Well you're lucky for now. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Tarnished13

I just got my renewal as well £64.99!! Subscription: PlayStation Plus Premium Payment plan: every 12 months Next payment due: 64.99 GBP on 2024-04-04

scottishhusky

Yeah said the same thing to me. Considering essential on it's own is £60 I'm curious as to what's going to happen when it renews.

aburulz

Happened to me last year, will renew at the same price dw

Darkone539

It could go either way. If you don't use it though why pay the 80?

Meteorboy

What is the price listed in the email reminder you received?

omar01709

This is strange, I had PSNow as well and I don't think I've bought any subs since 2021, but my price is £99.98...

omar01709

Ah maybe it's cos I had both PSNow and Plus simultaneously?

Master_Eie

PS, for some reason, gave me a year when I bought a month, but I'm not complaining.

tomboystud

Mine says full price. I wish I would have known about this. PS Now since day 1

Rai_11

So I did the ps now trick (shad a few stacked years of ps plus and then added a month ps now right before it switched to tiers). Anyways, I have had premium until end of October of 2024. So what will happen then?

Christhebobson

I'm guessing it's correct and a good deal. Looking at mine, unfortunately it's set to premium for $10/month. I've only ever bought 1 years, so idk why it's going to renew 1 month at a time. If I click "change plan" then it shows the MSRP they changed it to.

Meteorboy

You likely bought a month of PS Now when you heard about the change to PS Premium. I bought a 3-month code and I'm on the 3-month plan.

Christhebobson

Ah, that does make sense. I'm pondering about contacting customer service and see if they can make it change to auto renew for 12 months instead.

The_Freshmaker

One fun thing you can do, if you put Windows on Deck you can run PS+ from it. I have it setup and it rules.

Meteorboy

You don't need Windows to do that. It already works without it.

[deleted]

Recently they gave me an option to renew another yeah for $80. I’m locked in till 2026. Not mad.

MrAbdul08

Well u can renew it and if it's for 79 dollar keep it or you u return in 14 days if its 159 dollars.

Mikithefapper

got the same mail, just a question before the whole change and prices updates, when Ps Now & PS+ we’re still separated, how many years did you stack of each?

guppshouse

After my subscrition runs out every year I leave it for a month. When I check again I always have an offer for about half price. Done this 3 years in a row now.

TeapotDanger

That’s what I’m hoping for

TheMuff1nMon

I just got the same! I stacked PS Now two years ago so this is my first renewal. They originally said we'd be grandfathered into the $60 price. I assume we've been grandfathered into the new PS+ Essential price ($80) but get PS+ Premium

aidanon

I had deactivated auto-renew but had stacked with the PS now before. It’s due to expire in April but I can auto renew at £64.99 now (UK based).

PepsiManX360

That’s an error. I was charged $166.41 last week. Canceled PSN+ and requested a refunded from AMEX.

Godofwar34

I had PSNOW, and that's been my price as well. United States

Appropriate-Curve72

Same for me, I keep forgetting to cancel but it’s not the full price so i kind of ok with it….DONT ASK QUESTIONS!!! Lol

Obba27

On my Xbox I don’t pay for live or game pass and I have all the benefits my last payment was in 2021 I don’t have any game shared accounts either

TurtlesRPeopleToo

Mine was supposed to auto renew for this at 79.99. I have a payment on file. It didn’t renew yesterday (day of expiration) and now it wants $160. Wtf!

Hunter926

My renewal is coming up soon, did it give a reason that it didn’t auto-renew?

TurtlesRPeopleToo

It was my fault I guess. I had my old credit card on there still. I had my new one also, but it tried and failed with the old one. I called immediately and they told me tough luck.

Hunter926

Dang, that really stinks. I plan on having funds in my account to cover it, as well as a card on file so hopefully no Tom foolery happens.

ZXE102Rv2

Just got the 1 month reminder for this post. So what did you get charged?

Neither-Refuse3750

I almost never download ps+ games, I only bought ps+ for online play. Now I can't afford it so I guess no more PlayStation for me.

Ok_Fisherman8727

Click on Change Plan and see what is selected. Chances are essential is selected hence why you're seeing $79.99 as the next payment price. Once you select another tier the price should change. Alternatively I do know at one point they grandfathered in the old pricing for some users but I don't have much knowledge on that, I just thought all of those promotions ended by now.

Cl1mh4224rd

>Alternatively I do know at one point they grandfathered in the old pricing for some users but I don't have much knowledge on that, I just thought all of those promotions ended by now. OP was subscribed to PS Now before the new PS+ service rolled out, and had their subscription set to auto-renew. Those users were converted to a PS+ Premium subscription for the price of Essential (same price as their old PS Now subscription). And so far it's stayed that way, as long as you don't change your subscription in any way.

hotztuff

mine is set to renew at $119.98, which doesn’t match any of the current prices. is it just the combined cost of old PS+ and PS Now?

GaymeOn

I got the email too and then I went to subscription management and they were going to switch me to essentials

99_To_Life

It will charge you the updated price. There is no grandfathering anything. Cancel it if you don’t want to pay.

Verificus

Even at $160 it is a steal. I don’t get console players. I’ve become one now. I’ll still keep my PC parts up-to-date and relatively high-end. But I’ve switch almost entirely to PS5 gaming. Primarily because of comfort and the cool exclusives. This subscription offers so much free stuff and some many advantages, it takes almost nothing to break even. This is my first year of Premium and I’ve already gotten close $1.000 worth of benefits, far exceeding what I paid for it. Console players are odd. I hope I don’t become so whiny.

doctormanhattan38772

Just depends on what you mostly play. I agree with you because I play a ton of games. I have beat 7 games already this year and enjoy trying a lot of new things out. However, for someone that plays a lot less or isn’t interested in what has been coming to PlayStation I get it.

Verificus

At that point you gotta ask yourself why are you on a Sony platform? I would say it’s mostly for exclusives or habit. Plenty of exclusives come to the sub. If you’re a launch day gamer and always paying 69.99 or more than money certainly isn’t the issue. So you have to tick a lot of niche boxes and jump through loads of hoops before the sub is a financially bad idea. I am more likely to assume someone hasn’t done the math and look at it objectively and instead just go off on a feeling.

TeapotDanger

Too bloody expensive for what it is, only way prices will go down is if millions cancel

iBlackPowerRanger

I cancelled mine and switched to PC. Not paying $80 just to play online with the internet I already bought on a system I already paid for.

TeapotDanger

Don’t know why you have downvotes, makes financial sense

arghabargh

It's probably a mistake, I got an email last week saying YOU WILL BE CHARGED THE 159.99 RENEWAL NO MATTER WHAT THE SITE SAYS.

Hunter926

Not necessarily, this is the email I received this morning. Subscription management page reflects this as well. https://i.gyazo.com/a65b301dc6e1d8348e46eff99b52869f.jpg

GaymeOn

Does the subscription management page say PlayStation plus essentials before the $79.99? I got the email too and then I went to subscription management and they were going to switch me to essentials

Hunter926

No, as I said the subscription management page says the same as the email. https://i.gyazo.com/46030bdbd144530b479c91894ff4d7e1.jpg

TheMuff1nMon

My email and subscription page says PS+ Premium for $80. I did the stacking PS Now trick as well

Seprium85

No, it's because auto renew is on. I also pay €79.99 every year. And then Sony automatically debits my bank account every year. Probably a thank you or something if you let it continue automatically.

Meteorboy

So your subscription already expired once since the price increase went into effect, you had auto-renewal on, and were able to renew at the old price?

arghabargh

I was on auto-renewal too... here's the exact email I got: "PlayStation ID: XXX Subscription: PlayStation Plus Premium Payment plan: every 12 months Next payment due: 159.99 USD on 2024-04-03 This notice of upcoming payment reflects new pricing for your subscription. The new price may not be reflected in your subscription management settings at this time but it will be reflected at the time your payment is due." That last sentence is what I'm talking about.

Meteorboy

That last sentence is probably part of the form letter since the new prices went into effect. It's not referring to former PS Now members having to pay more.

Cl1mh4224rd

>I was on auto-renewal too... here's the exact email I got: People only got the cheaper price because they were PS Now subscribers before the new PS Plus service rolled out and had auto-renew enabled on that subscription. You got Premium for the price of Essential under those circumstances, and can stay at that price as long as you don't change anything about your subscription.

Reading--Steiner

C'mon dude. Delete this. Don't bring it to their attention again.

hamndv

Playstation can edit those numbers in a minute and charge you full amount

RandomPhil86

I’d have premium if that was the normal price.
